23 Nov 2022Paula Rizzo: Overcoming Procrastination00:37:15

Do you have goals that are important to you but you keep putting them off? If you would like to learn easy to implement tips on how to overcome procrastination, then this conversation is for you. You’ll learn the main reasons why we procrastinate and ways to work around those barriers to get closer to achieving your goals and living the life you desire. We use getting in shape and writing a book as specific examples to make it really tactical.

Our guest is Paula Rizzo, an Emmy Award-winning television producer, a media trainer, speaker, and best-selling author of Listful Thinking and Listful Living. The show notes for today can be found at https://thegoodlifecoach.com/219

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • Fear is one of the major reasons someone will procrastinate.
  • Break down goals into manageable tasks. Don’t put on your calendar “write book” – narrow it down to micro-goals. For example, write 200 words from 1pm-2pm on Tuesdays.
  • Set yourself up for success by managing your day based on when you are more productive.
  • Find an accountability partner. Ex, If you want to get into shape, find a friend or someone with the same goal and set up a regular day/time you’ll meet at the gym.
  • Discipline is a key.  Establish habits and repetition.
  • Focus on one priority for the day.  Don’t over schedule yourself.
  • Remove as many obstacles as you can. For example, sleep in your workout clothes so you are dressed and ready to go in the morning.

Have you ever thought about how trading and decision-making are correlated? “Trading is the act of buying and selling. Whenever you buy groceries, you are trading. Purchasing a car, ordering dinner, selling an item on eBay—all trades.” Today we are talking about the Universal Laws of Trading as written by my guest, Agustin Lebron, in his book “The Laws of Trading.” Agustin takes us into the life of a trader; discusses why women haven’t historically been a part of this industry and, why he thinks that should change, and he shares a few of the laws that we can implement in our lives to make better decisions beginning today! The show notes are at https://thegoodlifecoach.com/033

Key Takeaways

The show notes are at thegoodlifecoach.com/030

Key Takeaways:

IT ALL STARTS WITH THE MESSAGE.  Why are you doing what you do?  The answer can’t be because you like it.

The fact is that there are thousands of people that do what you do.  The key is to identify not just what makes you different but to create copy that resonates with your audience.  People try to make nice sounding copy that makes them sound smart - BUT the audience only cares how it helps them.

People use the words everyone else uses.  You need to use the words that are unique to your customers. Your website shouldn’t be a mirror in which you see yourself it should be a mirror of people seeing themselves.

When you ask: What do I do?, What do I offer?, What are my services? - these aren’t your brand.  This is your job.

Questions to ask yourself:

  1. Write a scene from your life and your work because it felt so good to help the person.  Make it as descriptive as possible.  Take yourself out of the "marketing mind."  Forget “what you do for a minute”  Read it out loud to someone who loves you.  Just mirror back what they heard about it.
  2. What you think what you offer is something different than what you offer - this is the promise of what you do.
  3. Write down ways you can serve: “What if I could?”  or “What if we could?”  What if I could help someone look in the mirror and love what they see.  These are the ways you want to serve.
  4. The idea funnel.  Write down what the assumptions are that your clients/customers have about your business/service/product.
  5. Then look at the risks of them not using you.  Go deep
  6. Conflict.  Where is the rub?  This is what I’m struggling with.
  7. Discovery - what do I do about what you just brought up?
  8. Application - how do I say it in plain english?

Your Bio should be 3rd person and also simple straight forward about what you do.

Then, first person description of your story.  Go on LinkedIn - shouldn’t be a cold bio.  Do Linkedin in first person.  - Say for the last twenty years i did this and this is wha I enjoyed about it.

TedX - in Kansas City - a NYTimes journalist dropped out and a person on FB reached out and said they had an opening and the person put her in touch with the organizer.   Ted is pure content.  She talked about how follow your passion is not a good fit for anyone.

How to craft a talk: — Ask yourself:

What do you believe about the world that you can challenge their thinking for their own good and how can you shift my thinking on this topic so I feel better about myself.  It’s not just a good story - it is story-telling+crafting a good idea.

Books:

Chris Anderson - Ted Talk The Official Ted Guide to Public Speaking

Seth Godin - “This is Marketing”

Austin Kleon “Steal Like an Artist” and

“The Creative Habit” by Twila Tharp

Elizabeth Gilbert - Big Magic

Terri's 4 Best Tips for Standing Out:

  1. Go deep into what you are doing.  Write to discover and to please.
  2. Write to discover and to pleChoose your platforms carefully - start doing videos - people hire you because of the evidence of what you are like.  Linkedin for video and content.
  3. Don’t hoard your genius - don’t be afraid of to share your thoughts because you are afraid people will steal your stuff.
  4. Call out who don’t want to work with.

  3. Learn something new every single day.  Always be learning.

24 Jul 2019Jason Van Orden: How to Use Your "Unique Genius" to Serve + Make a Profit00:57:40

Since 2005, Jason has worked with over 6000 students and clients, teaching them how to monetize their unique brilliance with content marketing, scalable courses, and automated sales systems. Many of his and students have built multi-million dollar businesses and have become top authors, bloggers, podcasters and speakers in their field. Today we talk about specific strategies to position yourself in a noisy market to best lead and serve in your unique way, while making a profit. The show notes are at https://thegoodlifecoach.com/038

Key Takeaways:

Launched the first internet marketing podcast and launched a coaching business for budding entrepreneurs. He is passionate about helping his clients get recognized for their expertise and while getting paid to do what you love.

The 3 M’s:

1.Market - target audience — if you aren’t gotten traction maybe you are being too general

2.Messaging - you need to speak to where the client is now.  Speak to their pain.  Don’t get into the solution.  Speak to top of mind stuff based on where they are at.Medium - show up where they are already at.

How do you identify and focus on your “Unique Genius”.  Jason’s definition is know your strengths and weaknesses.  Knowing the circumstances that leads you to being your best.

3 Sources: to help you define it:

  1. 10-15 statements to where you are at your best.  Ex, I create my greatest value when…..  I am my most creative when….
  2. Ask trusted advisors, friends and ask what are your strengths are.
  3. Take a the Strengths Finder by Sally Hogshead or her Strengths test for leadership

Remember are resources are time, money, connections.  Evaluate what you have the most of when you are starting.

Look at where you are now and track all of the stuff you do over a couple of weeks.  What percentage of my time do I spend on my unique genius per week.  Now put it through the lens of my unique genius.

Be consistent for 60-90 days.  Pick 1-2 and really double down on there.

A lead magnet should talk about pain points.  Don’t discuss solutions that people aren’t aware of for the lead magnet.  Create the kind of thing someone else might charge money for and post on social and your website to have people sign up.

Jason's 3 Best Tips:

  1. Know who you want to serve first and foremost.
  2. Get to selling as quickly as possible.   You need to be able to see what your offer is.  Get one client and prove to yourself someone will pay for what you are offering.
  3. Really lean into being yourself.  Play around with your voice.  There is so much noise on the internet — the only way to find your voice is to turn it up to 11.  There is something about your voice and your vulnerability. Experiment to find your voice.

MORE ABOUT OUR GUEST:

Dr. Mary Claire Haver is a wife, mom, physician, and entrepreneur who has devoted her adult life to women’s health. As a Board Certified OBGYN in the Houston area, Dr. Haver has delivered thousands of babies, completed thousands of well-woman exams, counseled patients, taught residents, and did everything an academic professor and OBGYN could do.

As her patient population aged, Dr. Haver was overwhelmed with the number of complaints and concerns her patients had with weight gain while going through menopause. For years, she told her patients to eat less and exercise more. It wasn’t until she, too, experienced the changes of menopause and mid-life weight gain that she realized this advice doesn’t work and ultimately led to her creating and developing a new program, The Galveston Diet.

The Galveston Diet is a nutrition program created by a Female OBGYN, designed for women in menopause. The Galveston Diet helps women reach their health and wellness goals through an anti-inflammatory approach to nutrition. Dr. Haver believes in the power of nutrition to combat inflammation and highly recommends the unlimited benefits of intermittent fasting. As part of her ongoing research, she became certified in Culinary Medicine in 2019, which specializes in medical nutrition.

10 Apr 2019Rebecca Ching: Anxiety in a Culture of "Never Enough"00:47:01

In this Episode:

Today we are covering an important subject - anxiety.  Did you know that according the to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America in the US, 40 million people aged 18 and older - that’s about 18 percent of the population - has an anxiety disorder.  So joining me to lovingly and respectfully discuss this tapic  is Rebecca Ching.  Rebecca is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Lots of great resources mentioned at the end of this episode - everything will be listed at thegoodlifecoach.com/023.

Rebecca is Certified in  Internal Family Systems Therapist, a Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator+Consultant (CDWF-C) (based on the research of Brené Brown), Certified EMDR Therapist+Consultant-in-Training , and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS) + iaedp™.

She will discuss when anxiety can be beneficial and what it looks like when it accumulates and hits a tipping point so you know when to seek out help.  We also discuss it through the lens of what my Rebecca calls a culture of “never enough” which makes us question: “Am I doing enough?  Have I achieved enough?  Am I pretty enough?  Am I good enough?  The root being feeling of “Am I enough?”   Perfectionism is a way for anxiety to play itself out and creates shame.  Not being worthy and not feeling enough.

27 Feb 2019Michele Lamoureux - 7 Simple Steps to Achieve Any Goal00:16:01

In this Episode:

Michele walks us through 7 simple steps to achieve any goal.  Don't worry if you abandoned your new year's resolutions because Michele has the steps to get you back on track!  Whether you want to launch a business, lose weight, switch careers, publish your first book, launch a podcast, or more - the steps will teach you how to make any goal a reality.

Key Takeaways:

Seven Simple Steps to Achieve Your Goals:

Step One - Set your intention by writing it down.  Get connected to the passion, the purpose, and what excites you about the goal you want to achieve.  If you feel like giving up, come back to step one to get re-connected to your "why".  My why for my website, podcast, and book are all of the same.  Create content to help women awaken to their full potential.

Step Two  - Begin the "SMART" Goals.  S=Specific.  Write down your goal and make it specific.  For example, instead of deciding you want to lose weight this year, you'd make it specific by determining the amount of weight you want to lose - like twenty pounds.  Take a moment now to write down a specific goal.

Step Three - M=Measurable.  Making your goal measurable helps you to know if you are on track.  For example, if you want to write a book, you can decide to write for 15 minutes a day and at the end of each day you will know if you have achieved the daily objective which leads to the larger goal.

Step Four - A=Achievable.  In order to achieve your goal you need to determine what information, support, and resources you need to have in place to make it a reality.  This is a key step and one area I believe is the reason many people don't realize their goal.  They don't set themselves up for success and create systems and get the information necessary to make the goal a true possibility.  Take a moment to write down what you would need to know, do, or learn in order achieve your goal.

Step Five - R=Realistic.  A realistic goal is just what it sounds like.  It is making sure it can actually be realized.  For example, ask yourself,  "Is this the best time to work on this goal?"; "Is this there something that can hold me back?"  In addition, you wouldn't for example decide to lose 20 pounds in two weeks.  Could it be done?  Possibly, but it wouldn't be advisable or healthy.  It would be considered an unrealistic goal.  The same goes for writing, editing, and self-publishing a book on amazon.  You wouldn't decide to make that all happen in 3 weeks.  Could you do it - yes, but it wouldn't be quality work and would be really stressful to complete which makes it unrealistic.  Write down what could stand in your way and make a plan to address it before it become a problem,

Step Six - T=Time bound.  This step is key in creating success.  Many of us have goals that are on a list that have been there for a long time!  Most goals fall apart at this step because the person setting the goal hasn't assigned deadlines.  This is so key.  Take a moment to mark the deadlines in your calendar.  If you want to lose weight in six months, mark your calendar for six months from now so you know what you are working towards.  If you want to launch a podcast, put a launch date on your calendar and work towards making that a reality.

Step Seven - Celebrate the Little Wins.  Write in your calendar that every Friday you are going to check in with yourself on what you have accomplished for that week.  What we consider as not that big of a deal is actually an important step to get you closer to the bigger picture goal.  If you want ideas of what to do to celebrate, go to the List of 52 Self-Care Tips for ideas.  It is on my website to sign up for it and it is FREE.

We discuss: how to create a capsule wardrobe; what basics we should all have in our closet; her favorite places to shop for these items; and what to invest in and where you can spend less.  We also talk about how to accessorize and what shoes you should have in your closet, and so much more.  The show notes are at https://thegoodlifecoach.com/034

Now you may not enjoy shopping, feel like you have the time to spend on pulling together outfits, or not know how to use accessories to make an outfit your own so you can stand out and feel more like you.  You may prefer a service like stitchfix where the outfits are done for you.  Or maybe you are like me and you love shopping and fashion but love learning more tips around looking your best.  Either way, that’s why Jeanne is here.  So much great content

Key Takeaways

  • Whether you are 18 or 80, most women don't feel confident in how they look and feel in what they wear. That is why it is Jeanne's mission to empower women to love what they put on each and every day!

Jeanne's 3 Best Styling Tips:

  1. Wear clothing that fits you instead of going up a 1-2 sizes.

MORE ABOUT STACY MADISON:

Stacy Madison founded Stacy’s Pita Chip Company, a top-selling natural snack food brand. It started with a career change from social work, to a strong desire to create delicious healthy food. Then, an entrepreneurial spirit and a small food cart in Boston used to sell pita sandwiches. As an incentive to keep people happily waiting in line, she baked pita chips each day using extra pita bread and gave them away to customers. She then decided to package and start selling the chips to local stores. The company experienced rapid growth and became a top-selling international snack food brand. After several years of traveling, she decided to open Stacy’s Juice bar. Stacy’s Juicebar began to sell hundreds of raw energy bars each month. The growing demand inspired Stacy to manufacture and market the bars nationwide. Stacy’s newest venture is BeBOLD Bars. BeBOLD Bars are healthy energy bars made with nutritious nut butters, oats, chocolate chips, chia, brazil nuts, walnuts, dark maple syrup, and wildflower honey. Wrapping simple ingredients and delicious flavors into one great bar.

17 Jul 2019Paula Rizzo: How to use lists for a Happier Less Stressed You00:36:33

"What do Madonna, Martha Stewart, John Lennon, Ellen DeGeneres, Ben Franklin, Ronald Reagan, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Edison, and Johnny Cash have in common? Each is (or was) a list maker. These successful people, along with CEOs and successful entrepreneurs, all use lists to keep track of their ideas, thoughts, and tasks." Paula Rizzo, the author of Listful Living is going to share her best tips on how to use lists to live a happier, less stressed life. The show notes are at https://thegoodlifecoach.com/037

As a former senior health producer for Fox News Channel for more than a decade Paula produced segments with a range of top experts, including JJ Virgin, Jillian Michaels, and Deepak Chopra. A media veteran for nearly 20 years, she also worked in local news in New York City as a producer for WCBS, WPIX and WLNY.

Key Takeaways:

Create your roadmap the night before to set your intention for the next day.  Write down how you want your day to go to keep you focused on priorities.

Have one notebook and use it as a your system - but know not every system will work for everyone, so you'll need to figure out what works best for you.

Make your lists very specific. For example, don't say do emails, write down who you need to email and when you are going to do it.

Listful Living helps you figure out your productivity style. If you are struggling to get things done, time yourself to see how long a task takes you.

Do a before lunch and after lunch list.  Morning can be your writing time and in the afternoon set up meetings with others.

Separate lists.  Work tasks.  Home tasks on different lists.

Time yourself for 10 minutes and see how far you can get in that minutes.

Priorities vs Tasks.

Lists help us be less stressed.

Stress impacts your mind and soul and 70-90% of all medical visits are related to stress.

Schedule lunch every day on your list.  Fridays are left open for creativity.

Listful thinking

What do Madonna, Martha Stewart, John Lennon, Ellen DeGeneres, Ben Franklin, Ronald Reagan, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Edison, and Johnny Cash have in common? Each is (or was) a list maker. These successful people, along with CEOs and successful entrepreneurs, all use lists to keep track of their ideas, thoughts, and tasks. Finding enough hours in the day to get everything accomplished and allow for some downtime can be a struggle. It's no wonder so many of us are stressed, overextended, and exhausted. More than half of all American employees feel overwhelmed, according to a study by the nonprofit Family and Work Institute. For the 54 percent of us who feel like we’re chasing our own tails, Listful Thinking is here to prove that it doesn't have to be that way. You can still find time to relax, read a good book, and do the things you love. Listful Thinking is the book that will give readers their lives back with indispensible tips on saving time, getting organized, improving productivity, saving money, and reducing stress.

Listful Living

What’s how many minutes there are in a day. How are you spending those precious minutes? Do you feel drained at the end of the day or look back and can’t figure out where the time went? If you’re not feeling fired up and fueled by your lists Paula Rizzo, best-selling author and Emmy-award winning television producer, delivers the solution in Listful Living: A List-Making Journey to a Less Stressed You.

Prioritize what really matters: Listful Living is the journal you need to get your life in order once and for all. Make sure you’re putting the right things on your list not just lists of tasks but those things you truly want to do that will nourish your soul.

Make lists work for you: Anyone can make a list. But can that list make you a calmer, more mindful, super productive and less stressed version of yourself? It’s easy to become overwhelmed by to-do’s, bucket lists and goals. The secret to success is not just about what you put on your list but what you intentionally leave off. Less is more. Leading with intention and how you’d like your life to feel is key.

Listful Living is the perfect book for list makers and life planners. Learn to:

  • Tap into your own productivity style to get more done
  • Curate your list making to best serve the lifestyle you want to lead
  • Prioritize what's truly important and be mindful of where you spend your precious energy
  • Create a roadmap to be less stressed
  • Reduce stress

Key Takeaways

If you are going to pitch someone you need to know what kind of show they work on so you know who and what to pitch.

Lists help you become focused

Many successful people like Madonna, Johnny Cash, Ellen DeGenerous all use lists.  You shouldn’t have to keep this in your mind.

Listful Thinking is all about how you can to do it better.  How to make better lists.

Listful Living is a journal - self-discovery (where are you right now).  Part 2 - Dream Big - what would your life look like.  Part 3 - put self-care onto your calendar - put things into action.

Mindfulness, Meditation, and other ways to reduce stress.

A virtual trip - you need time to decompress.

3 best tips

  1. Be clear about what you put on your list- you’ll be 33% more likely to achieve it.  Be specific.
  2. Don’t overwhelm yourself with big picture stuff
  3. Don’t be afraid to outsource to get things off of your list.  Let go of the things you think you “should be doing”
  4. Give yourself time on your calendar for you.  Create an “isolation bubble”.

listproducer.com

IG - listproducer

Be of service.  Look to see who that producer's audience is - watch the show, read the magazine, watch the ads so you know who the audience is.

When you pitch don’t say I won awards - talk about how I can serve your audience.

Look up the stuff the producer has done before and make a connection to the producer when you pitch.  Treat them like a person.

Create the relationship before the book is out.  Get the practice.

Being able to think visually for TV is key:

  1. Be able to be found by consistently sharing content.  Do video first - then you can take the audio and transcribe it.
  2. Share opinions and your views around your expertise.
  3. Get yourself in the mindset of the media.

To pitch television - you need to send a clip of you on video.  They need to see what you look and sound like on camera. A producer will always do a pre-interview with you to avoid someone flat-line on camera.

What colors should people wear? Always wear bold colors.  Jewel tones are great.  Solids.  See what the set looks like and don’t wear the same color as the set - you want to pop. Always bring a back-up wardrobe with you. Avoid patters because they are not good on camera.  Also, avoid white and black as it doesn’t look good on camera. Wear stuff you’ve worn before - don’t test an outfit on TV. Same goes for jewelry. If you wear a dress - they will need to strap onto your bra or you can wear pants.

Practice what you are going to say before you go on camera. Think in headlines and say those when on air.  Don’t talk too much.

Watch the show and the anchor before going on.  Know that they may not be friendly or talk to you - so don’t take it personally and don’t let the anchor’s energy throw you off.

Keep your energy up and “perform”.  You have to tell the story like a broadway actor and do it again and again like a pro.

Ground yourself.  Calm yourself down and take deep breaths.

The lights are very bright and hot but the studios are really cold.

Create videos for your business development.  Have people know you before they hire you.  It is more intimate.  Video is one step up from a podcast because you can see and hear the person.

Always think “how can I be of service?”  It is always about the audience.  How can you help someone and what is the tip you can leave them with today?

Social media is important - be consistent and keep it authentic.  It depends on the outlet how much they’ll care how big your following is.

Someone might not like your pitch but they may like you and will collaborate with you.You have to follow up if you don’t hear back.  Reply back to the same email and re-pitch.  “Hey I know you are really busy and wanted to put this back on the top of your list and wanted to talk about this as I think it was helpful to your audience.”  You can call the producer’s number and leave a message and then follow-up with an email.

Paula's 3 Best Tips for List-Making:

  1. Be clear about what you put on your list- you’ll be 33% more likely to achieve it.  Be specific.
  2. Don’t overwhelm yourself with big picture stuff. Don’t be afraid to outsource to get things off of your list.  Let go of the things you think you “should be doing”
  3. Give yourself time on your calendar for you.  Create an “isolation bubble”.

13 Mar 2019Jessica Rhodes - Founder of Interview Connections on How To Scale Your Business00:43:26

In this Episode:

Jessica Rhodes is the Founder of Interview Connections. She left a thriving career in the non-profit world to become a stay at home mom so she could work on her own terms.  In just 6 years, Jessica is close to hitting 7 figures as the founder of Interview Connections, the first podcast guest booking agency.  What makes her story interesting is she started out trying to create a business and life she loved, and ended up doing that while pioneering a new industry!  She tells the story in her own words and we get into the mindset of what it takes to scale a business.  Jessica takes us on her journey including some setbacks she hit along the way.

Key Takeaways:

Jessica is the founder and equal co-owner of Interview Connections. She and her in house team of Booking Agents are the podcast powerhouses behind many of the record breaking book launches you’ve seen today, with clients such as JJ Virgin, Perry Marshall, other authors you may know, and numerous PR agencies who hire them for their podcasting savvy and booking skills.

Jessica to be a stay at home mom and that is actually what lead her to launching her business.

Her father is a business coach and encouraged her to start out as a VA.

One of the jobs her father had her do was book him on podcasts which is what prompted her to start her company.

She took a pay-cut and downgraded her career because she wanted to be at home and believes that sometimes you need to start at the beginning again.

Jessica believes you have to have the mindset of being the student and was open to trusting her mentors and coach.  Her revenue grew quickly.

You need to have a shift at looking at money and investments and know that sometimes you go into debt while launching a company.

She had a client work with her for a year and then he left to start an almost identical business.  Another person copied her identical sales copy.  Yes, she continues to be the leader.

She unfollows her competitors.  She is purposeful to not get into the “they copied me mentality.”  Her business partner can check on things.  She always has to be ahead of the curve.

She has been aggressive to grow her business and Jess hired employees and stability to her business.

Jessica sponsored conferences to help grow her market share.  It helped position her as a successful business.  She pulled together topics for speaking at conferences.

2017 - was a hard year for Jessica as she was going from contractors to employees.  She didn’t want to do the business on her own and she decided to bring on a 50% partner in her business because was exhausted and depressed.

Jessica doesn’t work from home and only works from 10-4:30pm.  She doesn’t work long hours thanks to having a business partner.

Her tip for getting started- "just start".  Make a list of what needs to happen now.  What are the next few things that need to be done.

Jessica's 3 Best Tips for Business Success:

  1. Work with a great business coach.
  2. Really know your numbers.  What are you taking home and what is your net profit.
  3. Focus a lot on systems in your business and make sure things are running smoothly on the back-end.  Put into place a good CRM program to cut time off of tasks without having to find new clients.

02 Aug 2023Manisha Thakor: Author of MoneyZen Discusses How Financial Health + Emotional Wealth = Happiness00:56:58

“Do you recall that famous study which stated that once a person hits an annual income of $75,000, any earnings above that have no bearing on life satisfaction? Well it turns out that number is wrong — but likely not for the reason you think. A brand new study has found that, yes, making more money can lead to greater life satisfaction. But here’s the kicker: It only works if you already possess emotional well-being. Put another way, increased “financial wealth” doesn’t lead to increased happiness if you don’t already have a solid foundation of “emotional wealth.”

So how do we solve this money-happiness paradox and learn to build that essential base layer of “emotional wealth”? Enter: Harvard MBA and financial wellbeing guru, Manisha Thakor.

In her forthcoming book, MoneyZen: The Secret to Finding Your “Enough”, Manisha shares her candid journey out of the Cult of Never Enough—a painful mindset that tells you the money you earn, accomplishments you achieve, and praise you receive is never enough. Being trapped on the hamster wheel of Hustle Culture for virtually her entire adult life nearly destroyed Manisha’s relationships, health, and sense of self-worth. So she set out to understand why so many of us develop toxic relationships around work, money, and success at the expense of our emotional well-being and, crucially, how to flip this mental script.

Manisha wrote MoneyZen to share the powerful blueprint she developed on that journey—one that can be used by anyone irrespective of age, income, or profession—to stop surviving as a human doing and start thriving as a human being. Woven throughout the book are inspiring stories of individuals from all walks of life, sharing their own unique experiences escaping the Cult of Never Enough. Interviews with a wide range of experts, from wealth psychologists and workaholism researchers, to career coaches, economists, and even evolutionary biologists, provide readers with insights on the role that personal, cultural, societal, and physiological factors play in a Never Enough mindset.”

While on the show notes page, I’d love for you to join our newsletter. You’ll receive more inspiration and tips to love yourself and live your best midlife. You’ll also get a FREE copy of Michele’s Book, Design a Life You Love (available for a limited time).

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:

  1. Why your net worth doesn’t = your self worth.
  2. How Manisha got caught up in the culture of never enough and how she managed to finally get out.
  3. How her little “T” traumas from childhood set the stage for not feeling good enough and created a desire to be financially free.
  4. Why she ended in the hospital twice and how almost dying was still not the wake-up call she needed to change.
  5. The moment that she realized she had achieved what she wanted and decided she wanted to living on her terms with more joy and simplicity.
  6. The advice she has for us on how to get off of the hamster wheel and take back control.
  7. How she’s managed her depression and why it’s important not to judge someone’s insides by how put together their life may look on the outside.
  8. Her definition of a good life and much more.

30 Jan 2019Moe McClanahan - How to Finally Get Fit00:38:15

In this Episode:

Hi, this is your host Michele and I appreciate you tuning in today and for every episode that you’ve joined me for.  As an empowerment coach for the last 17 years.  I know that it is motivating to hear another woman’s journey; whether that is through a book, a podcast, or some other way…. you begin to realize that if something is possible for one person, it is also possible for you.  The truth is that many of the women I bring on the show, you may never hear about other than on this show but that’s by design — I want to show you examples of real, everyday, motivated women showing up to design a life they love.  They are looking to create something special and meaningful in their life and I know that is also possible for you. The stories I choose to share are unique - they serve as an example that the power to create comes from your ability to imagine a future you that gets you excited and then the key is to take some action every day towards those goals.  I’ll be doing some solo shows in the near future to help guide on your path and give you specific tools that will help you.

With that said, I’m excited to bring you today’s guest.  Moe McClanahan is a police investigator who works to protect children from online predators.  She's been a police officer for 19 years and working internet crimes against children for the last 6 years.  Her work is intense and often emotionally draining which is tough enough but Moe had also battled postpartum depression when her son was born.  So four years ago Moe made a mindset shift that changed her life.  She began working out regularly and changed how she ate and her depression lifted.  Her life changed and she now feels energized, happy, and motivated.  This is what inspired her to help other women with their fitness goals.  If you hear Moe talking about moms that is because it is her niche but her story is relevant for all women, especially if you are working full time you’ll see an example of how someone is managing a day job and focusing on the "dream" career.

I will mention that since Moe is a police investigator in addition to her 3 best tips for empowering women to get fit, I also asked her for tips to protect our kids online and she shares those as well as her favorite apps.  This is an episode you won’t want to miss and is one you’ll want to share.  The online safety tips come from someone with years of first hand experience tracking these criminals down.  http://thegoodlifecoach.com/013

Also, since we are talking about self-care today, I created a special freebie that you can download on the show notes page.  It has 52 self-care tips for you busy women out there one idea for every week of the year.  Let’s make 2019 the year you take care of you!

Key Takeaways:

Moe experienced post-partum depression and it lifted when she found a community and began working out regularly with the help of a fitness coach.

Moe gets up every morning at 4:00am and does personal development and gets in her “mom” time.  She works out with her "Fit Club" in the mornings before heading into the office.

Accountability, creating a routine, and mindset shifts helped keep her going.  She didn’t want to go back to that depressed place.  She encourages women to focus on their nutrition - to have more energy.

Do one new thing each week.  Kick one unhealthy habit like giving up soda and pick one new positive habit to start.  That feeling of accomplishing something smaller compounds and that begins motivating her clients.  She says finding what that key is is what helps makes them want to keep going.

Healthy heroes is an idea she has launched.  She saw that the kids that were victimized - the common denominator was low self-esteem and insecurity.  She is empowering the moms to empower the kids but eventually she wants to help kids with mindset, nutrition, and leadership within themselves to love themselves at an earlier age.

Moe's top tips to protect your kids online:

First, she says kids under the age of 13 shouldn’t have smart phones and social media actually says you should be 13 years or older.  However, since that isn't the reality for most families, here is what she recommends:

  1. Discuss the dangers and what your kids would do if they were approached or if something didn’t seem right.  Make sure they know that it is safe for them to report anything to you.
  2. Know how the device works before giving it to your kid.  Turn off the camera and set up a time for the phone to go off.  Set screen time to two hours a day
  3. She is 100% against snapchat and kik because they have disappearing photos and no way to persecute against an offender without proof.  Keep kids off of these apps.
  4. Facebook now has secret messages - be aware of this.
  5. Don’t be afraid to make rules with your kids.  When laptops first came out they used to be in a common area but with the tablets and the cell phones became prevalent, that education went out the door.  Make rules to always have the phone in common areas and at night the parents should have the phones as that is when a lot of the issues arise.

Apps she recommends to protect your kids online:

My mobile watch dog

NetNanny

Phone companies have parental monitoring that you pay for that you can use to do things like turn off data.

3 best tips to become healthy and strong:

  1. Put yourself first.  Fill your own cup and let your love overflow into your family.
  2. Have a community - we aren't meant to do the hard things alone.
  3. Find a nutrition plan that works for you while giving yourself grace to be you.

Are you moody?  Do you have low sex drive? Unexplained weight gain? Skin Issues? Today, we discuss hormones -- the different kinds of hormones and what it looks like when they go out of balance.  We also get into perimonopause and menopause and what to expect.  Hormones impact our sleep, digestion, blood pressure, libido, skin, and it goes on and on.  My intention is to have this information serve as a "hormones 101" so that you can have a foundational understanding of how they work in your body and impact health as many women don't have the basic information they need. *This is not intended to serve as medical advice and you should always consult with your own health care practitioner before making any changes to your health.

I’ve invited on award winning naturopathic doctor, Dr. Michelle Wolford to educate us.  For nearly a decade, she has run a private multi disciplinary practice in San Diego treating children and adults for a variety of acute and chronic conditions all over the world.  She's been a guest speaker at Medical Schools, on several radio, blog spot and TV programs in addition to a guest writer for the Journal of Alternative Medicine.

All of the show notes will be at thegoodlifecoach.com/021.  This is an information packed episode that will hopefully provide some new awareness but as always - the intention is to solely provide information.

Key Takeaways:

Our hormones regulate everything in our bodies.  It is important to manage our stress and take care of our bodies through nutrition and other means.

Meditate for 10 minutes a day, breathe in fresh air, and do 40minutes of exercise 3-4 times a week.

Dr. Wolford's 3 Best Tips:

  1. Use castor oil packs to detoxify your liver.
  2. Create a routine around when you go to sleep, wake up, and eat your meals.  The goal is consistency.
  3. Spend 30 minutes every day just for you - where you are unplugged from technology and just breathe.

02 Jan 2019Kathy Vines - Clever Girl Organizing00:58:01

In this Episode:

If you are dealing with clutter, I have on an expert who is going to help you get your home organized!  Kathy Vines is a Certified Professional Organizer and she shares her best tips for decluttering our homes.  We tackle clothes, papers, memorabilia and the systems + habits that will help you create the peaceful home environment you desire.

Key Takeaways:

  • If someone says they are disorganized - they are disorganized in one of three areas: 1. stuff 2.systems or 3. habits
  • The 5 main categories where people struggle: 1. clothes 2. books 3. collections 4. memorabilia 5. paperwork
  • Start your kids at a young age to put things away.
  • Managing the emotional piece with an item.  Just because something is memorable doesn't mean it is important.  You need to assess the value around the importance.
  • Declutter to give a gift to your future self.  Clean the dishes in the sink every night so your future self wakes up to a clean kitchen.
  • Uncover what isn't working so you can create systems to solve for the problems.
  • Paper - you need a system.  Past, Present. Future.  Kathy says to prioritize the current paper over the past paper.  Go through all of the paper and she asks her clients to ask "What is the action I need to take with this piece of paper?"  For example, pay a bill or add something to your calendar like an invite.
  • If you are overwhelmed start with one small space - like a drawer.  Group, like with like.  Start with something unemotional.
  • Questions you can ask: "What does this room need to do for you?"  "How can you make it fully functioning?"  "What do you need to solve for these problems?"
  • Her three best tips:  1. Everything has to have a home. 2. Ask "what does finished look like?" and work backwards to what you need to do to make that happen 3. Notice and beware of how often you say I'll do that "later" - always pick the best choice for "future you" and start now.

17 Mar 2021Will You Meet Me in the Middle?00:08:49

Our search for meaning dates back to the beginning of our existence.

We’ve looked to the planets through astrology,

and numbers through numerology.

Searched the world for wisdom through psychics and sages,

Turned to shamans, and spirits, and angels too,

Anything to get back to the meaning of you.

Some believe science has the answers we seek,

Some believe that those without faith are weak,

From gurus to yogis to the stars and the moon,

We’ve looked to Gods and goddesses and anything that’s new.

Human design, the enneagram, Akashic records, and tarot cards,

New age thinkers, guides, and masters,

Priests, and Rabbis, and Religious Pastors

Surely there is someone who has all the answers?

The more you seek, the more you find, and yet,

Has any of it given you peace of mind?

The prophets gave people hope and to this day still do,

Yet, the answers you seek have always been within you.

The love that you are, you will always be,

This is the truth of life, don’t you see?

Something that unites us in magical ways,

Something that can bring us closer to happier days,

Something powerful that lets us work together,

A world of beauty that defines forever.

So, it doesn’t really matter what you believe.

Your truth is what lets you be.

Yet sadly, your own beliefs are not enough,

Your faith makes you think you need to be tough,

On others who don’t see what you see.

You must change their minds too for you to be.

Why judge others for their path?

Perhaps they aren’t into science or math?

Maybe they believe something foreign to you?

Does that make them worthy of rejecting too?

You think “their faith and reality must be flawed,”

My mission then must be to guide them along.

I’ll debate and judge my sisters and brothers,

Not realizing that we are actually each other.

The illusion of separation is a myth that presides,

Division and hate, unfortunately, resides.

A world that is divided can never be whole,

Perhaps the path is to see the humanity in all?

To let love prevail and respectfully disagree,

Perhaps this is the way to harmony?

Maybe you see purple where I see blue,

Does this make me so different from you?

On the surface, it seems that this is the case,

But what if you allowed your heart to make space?

I’m tired of the division and all of the hate,

I believe we have more control of our fate,

In love, we find the link that binds us all,

In love, we find that our hearts want us to head the call.

I know you think we are so different from one another,

From race to religion to having a different mother,

Yet the truth of the meaning of life,

Binds us beyond all of the superficial labels and strife.

Are you willing to see me as a soul and as whole?

With my personal search for meaning and truth,

Even if it is different from you?

We don’t have to see eye to eye to be aligned.

You see, what makes us different is also what binds,

Like the myriad of living things that co-exists,

in a cycle of nature that doesn’t question or doubt its existence.

Would you be willing to meet me in the middle?

With love, Michele

21 Aug 2024Why Heart Disease is The Leading Cause of Death in Women with Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum - Part 100:34:55

“Heart Care is the New Self-Care” – Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum

This interview could save your life or the life of a woman you know. Please share it with every woman in your life. Heart disease is the number one killer of women but so many women are unaware of this information. Today’s show is going to spotlight the importance of taking care of your heart health, what the key risk factors are, and how to focus on prevention.

While on the show notes page, I’d love for you to join our community. You’ll receive more inspiration and tips to love yourself and your life. You’ll get a FREE copy of Michele’s Book, Design a Life You Love.

*This interview is for entertainment purposes only. For medical advice, seek out your trusted healthcare provider.

WHAT WE DISCUSS:

  1. The statistics about heart disease and how it is the #1 killer of women. 70% of women don’t realize they are at risk.
  2. The role research, the doctors, and even women have played and not changing this statistic in the last twenty years.
  3. How we can take ownership of our health since 80% of heart disease is preventable. The importance of preventative care.
  4. The blood tests we need as well as the other factors that play into our heart health.
  5. The symptoms that women may have and how they differ from men. Knowledge is power here to advocate for yourself. Women still die in the hospital of heart attacks.
  6. The importance of exercise, sleep, and meditation.
  7. Why Dr. Steinbaum is launching Adesso (means now in Italian) and how it is going to change the landscape of heart health, and more.

“Since the dawn of recorded time in almost every culture, our heart has been the symbol of our ultimate essence as human beings. Cupid, St. Valentine, the source of songs, poetry and art, our heart elevates that which makes us fully alive: our capacity for love, passion, romance, purpose. Life at its fullest.

And yet heart disease is the #1 killer of women. 1 in 3 women will die of heart disease and for the past 20 years, over the course of my entire career as a preventive cardiologist, that figure hasn’t changed. This disconnect, this Grand Canyon from the abstract idea of our hearts and the real working function of the organ at the center of our being, is what needs to change.

We know now that preventing heart disease is not defined just by medical data like blood pressure, cholesterol, BMI, sugars and medication. True heart health stems from every aspect of our lives, like stress, relationships, sleep, how we nourish ourselves, how we move and yes, even how we love.

As we fully put ourselves and our heart at the center of our lives, we will fully change the course of this disease that 80 percent of the time is preventable. We can and will change this. When we live from the heart, we live! Life at its fullest.”

MORE ABOUT OUR GUEST

Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum is a leader in preventive cardiology, now in private practice in New York. She launched heart prevention programs at Mt. Sinai Heart, Northwell Lenox Hill and Beth Israel. She is the CEO/Founder of Adesso, a technology-based prevention model. 07 Sep 2022Kimmye Bohannon - CEO of The Weekly Juicery. Can Juicing Turn Back the Aging Clock? (rerun)00:55:28

Have you wanted to learn more about the benefits of juicing? Do you make fresh juice at home?  Have you purchased fresh juice at the market?   Do you know the difference between a green smoothie and green juice?

On today’s podcast, we cover all of these questions and more, with Kimmye Bohannon the CEO of The Weekly Juicery and the Founder of The Juice Ritual program.  Kimmye says she felt like she was aging in “dog years” and juicing turned back the clock!

We discuss the benefits of juicing and how to get started. Kimmye shares her recommended juicer and best book to begin… but first we get into her inspiring entrepreneurial journey. Kimmye had worked at JP Morgan for nearly 15 years when she launched The Weekly Juicery in her home in 2012 with no experience in this business.  Her goal was to create a juice delivery service that would make drinking cold-pressed juices convenient for busy people.  She would wake up at 2am – yes 2am – to deliver fresh juice to her early subscribers.  That’s how passionate she is about the benefits.

We have a lot of laughs during this conversation and I hope you’ll be laughing along with us too!    For show notes visit:  https://thegoodlifecoach.com/015

*This interview is for informational and entertainment purposes only and is not intended to replace your relationship with your doctor or trusted healthcare providers.*

Key Takeaways:

A mother to 3 children in just four years, Kimmye felt like she was aging much too quickly.  She bought a juicer and picked up a book from Natalia Rose.  Kimmye started to feel great and before she knew it her passion for juicing became her calling.  She had no idea about this industry or how to do all the things to make it a reality, but step by step, she found her way.

It takes 3 1/2 – 4 1/2 pounds of produce for 16 ounces of juice!

My favorite takeaway:  “As entrepreneurs we need to always be asking: ‘Is there a better way?'”

She had no prior experience and her company continues to deliver delicious, fresh juice throughout the United States.  In addition,  there are five Weekly Juicery retail locations and the online Juice Ritual Program which is a guided, one-day juice fast experience each month.

The Weekly Juicery juices are 100% USDA Certified Organic, vegetable-centric with little to no fruit.

  3. Be very unattached to outcomes in your business.  If you are too attached you might miss other opportunities.

21 Oct 2020New York Times Best-Selling Author, Lisa Genova on How to Live a Life of Meaning01:15:17

What does it mean to find your purpose? Purpose, meaning, and change are even more a part of our lives now than they were when I first launched The Good Life Coach.

In today’s episode, New York Times bestselling author Lisa Genova joins me for a deep conversation about life, including how she followed her purpose during uncertain times.  Lisa was my very first guest, and I’m so excited that she returned for this special second anniversary episode of the show.

04 Jan 2023Jennifer Barrett: Why Women Need to Generate Wealth Not Just Earn A Paycheck: The Path to Becoming A Breadwinner (rerun)01:02:01

Are you currently saving money and amassing wealth or are you living paycheck to paycheck? Whether you are a stay at home mom, have a career, don’t know much about how to manage money, or are great at it but always love learning more — there is something in this interview for you. Jennifer Barrett is on to discuss her new book, “Think Like a Breadwinner,” a wealth-building manifesto for women. Who doesn’t want to build wealth… but the real question is ‘are you’? Jennifer tells us why women haven’t been accustomed to thinking like a breadwinner, even when they are one. How and why it’s so important to shift our mindsets to one of a breadwinner. She also provides tactical tips and relatable stories in this conversation to empower you to secure your financial future and rely on yourself even if you have a spouse. The days of waiting to be rescued are over as you are the heroine of your story. We cover so much in this empowering conversation! Tune in now and you can access the show notes at https://thegoodlifecoach.com/225.

Please be sure to share it with your friends who would benefit from this information. Also be sure to follow the show on Apple Podcasts or your favorite app so you don’t miss an episode.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:
1. How women are taught to budget, save for a rainy day, and find a partner instead of being taught how to think about our long term vision and retirement. We need to be building wealth all along the way.
2. We need to plan as if we are going to be solely responsible for ourselves and our families for the rest of our lives.
3. Why men are given expansive thoughts for their financial capabilities more often then women.
4. How things are changing where more women are breadwinners than ever before.
5. Why the conventional breadwinner model was pervasive through the 20th century and how that’s created no real models for women. Most women just assume they will be the main caregivers.
6. We are vulnerable if we are depending on someone else. Even if you think you’ll be married for life it is important you make choices for your future.
7. Women are ambitious with their careers but we need to be ambitious and expansive with our thinking when it comes to our finances.
8. The role that the media plays in how women perceive their potential in regard to finances and creating wealth.
9. The role that parents play in teaching their sons and not their daughters about investing and other matters related to finances.
10. Why it’s important to be informed if you decide to “off ramp” from your work to stay at home with your kids and why it may not be that easy to “on ramp” when you are ready
11. How to find community and support other women and much more.

Tactical steps:
1. Earn as much as you can for the role you are in if you are working.
2. Check your salary in your area of expertise. Check salary.com, fairygodboss.com glassdoor.com — quantify the value you bring so you are prepared to negotiate the best salary and close the wage gap. Your income is the springboard for wealth building.
3. Use every paycheck to become less dependent on your next paycheck. Invest it – put some in savings and some in the market.
4. Visualize – write down where you want to be in 3 years from now and write out the entire day in visceral details. Where do you want to be and what do you want to be doing? Make it real for yourself to get into the energetic space of what you want. Cut out pictures and visualize the future you desire. Do it twice a year and write the list as if it is in the present tense. Make your choices based on your values.

15 May 2019Suzanne Kingsbury: How to Unlock Your Creativity and Find Your Power00:50:04

If you have dreams you want to realize, but your limiting beliefs or a critical voice is holding you back, then you'll want to tune in. My guest today is Suzanne Kingsbury the Founder of The Gateless Methodology --which is a combination of brain science, radical nurturing, and embracing your weaknesses. Suzanne takes us through the three steps to implement her methodology. Her work is moving away from a culture of criticism to reconnect to your creativity, power, and your truth.

Suzanne is a best-selling author. The agent who sold Memoirs of a Geisha and Cold Mountain sold her book to Scribner for one of the biggest deals of the year for a first novelist, foreign rights were coming, and film options were on the way.  Her writing dreams had suddenly come alive. And in the years ahead, she realized her bigger calling was to help new writers experience the sweetness of publishing success.

You don’t need to be a writer to learn how to tap into your power and creativity. This work is for anyone as it teaches you how to improve your relationships with yourself, your partner and even become a more present parent.  All of the show notes can be found at thegoodlifecoach.com/028.

Who is the Gateless methodology for?  Everyone. The work translates to all areas of people’s lives.

The Gateless Process:

  1. Radical nurturing.  The ability to allow yourself to be nurtured.  Hot baths, massage, and writing a list of what is beautiful about you every night.  When you do this your inner voice will appear.  Pay attention and don’t let it take over.  This is what makes you strong.
  2. Look at what you see as broken about you is actually your power.  Don’t fight what we see as broken and see it as our superpower.  This is very counter-culture which is why it is so profound.
  3. Understand that you have so many resources innately inside of you that we often forget to count.  For example, people think money is the most important thing but she says resources are the most important thing.  What do you need?  This is what gives you agency to begin.

Look for your resources: Time, People, Networking Events

She looks at the part of the mind that triggers fight or flight.  When you look at what is happening that makes you feel joyful - do more than that.  What are the activities that are activating the fight or flight.

Gateless is around finding what works and surrounding yourself with more good. What does my husband do well - tell him. What does my child do well?  How can I first tell my kid what I love about her.  When the critical voice gets strong it means you are on the right path.

If there is a block - write into the block.  Let the voice of anxiety speak on the paper.  Write in the 2nd person.  It wants to be heard.  Then ask it - do you think this is actually true?  Listen - do you think there are really these issues?  Should we look? Let’s see if that is true and then the anxiety can be seen and heard.

Buy a journal - write your story.  Look for the divine in there.  There is something that is greater than the human condition.  Ask the questions and the highest self will answer the questions.

If you want to be a writer.  Brenda Ueland - If you want to ?”

Run with the Wolves - author of that book.

Channeled writing - and then let whatever wants to come out on the page.  talk about your life and direction.  Self-assessment.  Am I embodying everything I want to put out in the world in a real way?

Suzanne's 3 Best Tips:

  1. Be the best friend of the self - Parent the self.  Really find the abundance of the strength of who you are.
  2. Don’t beat yourself up over time.  As long as you have the intention.  Relax around the time - it will happen at the right time.
  3. Really see if there is an availability for writing in your life.  A tiny notepad that you can write about what you love about you, your husband, and let your critic speak.

Everything is possible with the approach of non-judgment.  You are exactly where you are supposed to be right now.  Find your strength.

07 Apr 2021Lamoureux Twins: The Olympic Gold Medalists on Daring to Dream and Fighting for Equity00:44:43

“If we defined success by gold medals and winning hockey games what a shortsighted view of what this journey can all be about.” – Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson

“We gained our confidence from our preparation and doing something every single day to make sure we were at our best and knowing we put the work in.” – Monique Lamoureux-Morando

The Olympic Gold Medalists on Daring to Dream and Fighting for Equity. Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson and Monique Lamoureux-Morando share their incredible journey from starting hockey at the age of 2 1/2 to winning six world championships and three Olympic medals (including a gold medal in 2018 in the Winter Olympics in South Korea).

They continued to face barriers and unequal treatment and so the twins, their team, lawyers, supporters, and many others took on USA Hockey to fight for gender equity and to pave the road for future female hockey players in the US and around the world. This is an inspiring story of what’s possible and you don’t need to be a hockey player to appreciate the magnitude of what was accomplished.

This was a battle for gender equity. So much to learn from these amazing women about what it takes to dream big, set goals, and make change.

27 Dec 2023How to be More Productive (12 Week Year) + Live in Alignment with Your Life’s Vision: Brian Moran (rerun)00:46:34

“If the average person just more consistently did what they already know they’d be healthier, happier, and be making more money.” – Brian Moran

Brian Moran, the New York Times bestselling author of “The 12 Week Year: Get More Done in 12 Weeks than Others Do in 12 Months,” is going to share how to get more done in less time. He will take us into the execution system he developed while also sharing easy-to-implement time management strategies. He also connects the dots back to why it is important to create our life vision so we can structure our time and goals around that vision. You will learn tactical steps that you can implement today to move closer to the life you desire. This is a fan-favorite episode that I re-run before the New Year.

4. Click “write a review” to rate + review.

Thank you for listening to the show!

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:

  1. Why the 12 week year is an execution system and how that helps you get more done in less time.
  2. It’s not enough to know.  You have to execute.  Knowledge is only powerful if you act on it.
  3. Get out of the annual environment.  With this program, you are going to stop after 12 weeks and that is your year.  Measure your success or failure and measure the progress and then go again.  It’s a fluid process.  You can use  this professionally or personally.  You can do  anything for 12 weeks and then decide is that somethingI want to do again.
  4. Your vision is you’re why.   Your goals NEED to align with the vision.
  5. At the goal level, know the difference between goals and tactics and outcomes and actions.  The actions we have control over.  Goals are outcomes.
  6. Make sure at the goal level that is measurable – it’s an outcome.
  7. Determine what are the most important actions.  Most plans are conceptual not tactical.  You need to spell out the specific actions and focus on “less is more”.
  8. Stay connected to your vision by putting the longer term vision in front of you – laminate a card you can look at every day. Create visual reminders.
  9. The difference between a habit and routine is key.   Ex, going to the gym is a routine not a habit and routines are what drive success.  How you begin and end your day needs a routine.  The key is to start off positive.   End your day with gratitude.
  10. How to manage time.  Time blocking – 3 core blocks:
    A. Strategic Block -3 hours blocked during the week.  No interruptions – working on the business not in the business. THIS CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE.
    B. Buffer Blocks – these are designed to deal with the emails/low level stuff.  Ex, I return calls between 4-5pm.  Don’t check your emails when they come in. Block time in to address it.
    C. Break out blocks – schedule time away from work to do something just for you to recharge.

The Four Disciplines of the 12 Week Year

  1. Vision – You have to know what you want.
  2. Planning – You have to ask – “What matters most?”
  3. Execution – Then ask, “Am I doing it?”
  4. Measurement – “Is it producing?”

19 Sep 2022Monday Musings with Michele: Waking Up00:05:47

This is a solo-cast inviting you to think about waking to what is calling for your awareness – what parts of your life you desire change and how to make that change happen. Here’s the thing — every decision we make, every dream we have, every goal we set, every compromise we make, every excuse, every moment we let go by in distraction instead of staying present to the moment and the futures we want to wake up in — this creates our reality.

So, then, how do you own your voice?  How do you show up for yourself?  How do you create the dreams you desire?  How do you even begin to dream again when maybe you’ve lost yourself completely?

It all starts with curiosity which leads to clarity about what you really want. Once you have that then you take one baby step, followed by one action and then by another and so on.

It requires faith and self-love.  It requires support.

I hope you find it helpful and please share it with anyone who would benefit from it.

20 Feb 2019Julia Grimaldi - Nutrition Chef on How to Prepare Nutritious, Delicious Meals with Ease00:44:03

In this Episode:

Do you go to the market and come home with nothing for dinner?  Do you love to cook but just don't have time to spend in the kitchen?  Do you want to feed your family well but don't know where to begin?

On today's podcast we cover all of these questions and more with nutrition chef Julia Grimaldi, Founder of Julia's Wellness Kitchen. An entrepreneur, personal chef, and wellness coach, Julia calls herself a curious culinarian who has had a love affair with food, cooking, and clean eating for over 20 years.  Julia's passion is to help people approach nutritious eating and cooking with comfort and ease, develop better eating and health habits, and have fun doing it!  We really get into the importance of eating together as a family as often as is possible.  The idea is that a home cooked meal is always more nutritious.

For show notes visit:  https://thegoodlifecoach.com/016

Key Takeaways:

The most important thing is to have families sharing meals and eating in communion, which is why Julia works with families to prepare meals with the goal that she will bring them back to the family table.

We prefer the word nutritious over "healthy"- foods that are minimally processed and whole foods.

When thinking about planning a meal - start with the  components of a meal.  A protein source (animal to plant proteins); vegetables; carbohydrates - from a grain perspective (wheat, rice, corn) and non-gluten grains (oats and quinoa).

If food allergies or sensitivities are an issue, start meal planning around what you can have.  If your proteins are limited to plant proteins you just need more of them.  It becomes frustrating when we think of what we can’t have.

Have a well stocked pantry: Always have on hand good quality beef, chicken, vegetable broth, canned beans, frozen shrimp, frozen vegetables, bulgar, quinoa, couscous.

Plan a shopping menu but protein/dairy; produce; and grocery (general).  Try to go to the same supermarket so you save yourself time.  The whole foods are on the perimeter.  The interior is where the less healthy foods are.  Batch cook your meals on a Sunday.  Set aside 2-3 hours to make it all for the week.

Julia's 3 best tips to create nourishing meals at home:

  1. Work on mindset - set something realistic and small.
  2. Keep it simple - it doesn’t need to be an elaborate meal - keep planning and ingredients simple.
  3. approach it with ease and joy and fun - if it isn’t outsource or use short-cuts like meal planning kits.
  4. Get help if you need it

In this Episode:
I'm thrilled to share that Lisa Genova, the New York Times Bestselling Author of Still Alice, is today’s guest.  When I learned of Lisa’s work and life mission I knew I had to have her on the show.  She epitomizes what is possible when you listen to your internal voice and have the courage to pursue what’s in your heart.  Lisa will tell you that she is doing her “soul’s work” and living a life of purpose by bringing empathy and understanding to neurological disorders people don't like to think about.  Her book “Still Alice” became a New York Times best-seller and was turned into a major motion picture.  However, before finding her purpose, Lisa was on a very different path.  A Harvard trained Ph.D. in neuroscience, Lisa found herself at a crossroads when her first marriage ended in divorce.  It was in this moment of uncertainty that she found the courage to leave the familiar for a life as a writer.  If you are a writer or want to be one, would like to find your purpose, and/or enjoy stories of how dreams become reality, then you will love today’s episode.

Key Takeaways:

  • Why Lisa left her life as a Harvard trained PhD in Neuroscience to become a fiction writer, with no prior writing experience
  • Why her grandmother having alzheimer's triggered her desire to write
  • How & why she became an "empathy warrior" for people with neurological disorders
  • How acting classes helped her become a better writer
  • We dig into her creative process – how she crafts her books
  • Why all of her books cover a neurological disorder and how they connect to life themes
  • How she kept up her motivation when her future was uncertain.  Her book was originally rejected by 100 agents yet she was determined to get her book out in the world and it paid off.
  • How her self-published book eventually secured her an agent and ended up on the New York Times Best-sellers list for 59 weeks!
  • How she trusted that fiction was the way to tell her stories to create empathy with the reader.
  • Why she loves the concept of duality and how our decisions create the reality we are living today vs the path not taken.
  • How her book "Still Alice" became a major motion picture starring Julianne Moore and Alec Baldwin.   We go into how it felt to be at the Oscar's and seeing her work on the big screen.
  • Why her latest book, "Every Note Played" deals with ALS.
  • Lisa shares the questions we need to ask ourselves to discover our own life purpose
  • Why you should never make decisions out of fear
  • The books she used to learn the craft of writing
  • 3 key tips for all women out there who want to pursue their dreams....and so much more...
