11 Jun 2021 | Let's Be Practical With Self-Care | 00:22:17 | |
Self Care. A term that is being used high and low these days. Everyone and their mother are saying “Self-care! Make sure you get yourself care! You need to make yourself a priority.” I see all these cute little cliché posts on Instagram about self-care with perfectly placed graphics that show a lady with a face mask, or maybe nails getting painted. But unfortunately, that self-care that people are so genuinely yelling from the roof tops has now become another stressor under a new mom’s skin. When I had kids (not that long ago), I remember everyone giving me advice “Make sure you sleep when baby sleeps.” “Leave the laundry and cleaning, you can get to it later.” And while these are all beautiful nuggets of wisdom, they aren’t always practical. So, what are some practical ways to get that self-care and self-love that you so desperately need? Listen in for some fantastic ideas! Ever wondered how healthy your lady parts are? Or if your lady parts are normal? Well, we're talking about it on today's episode of The Genuine Mom Club Podcast. On this episode we are joined by the amazing, Dr. Nicole Williams. Dr. Nicole E. Williams is a native of East St. Louis and board certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist. With the philosophy of marrying both alternative and traditional medicine, Dr. Williams opened The Gynecology Institute of Chicago in July 2013. Since that time, she has expanded the GIC to 3 locations and has cared for thousands of patients (and their vaginas). Dr. Williams has a degree in English Literature and Biochemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an MD from Loyola University Chicago. In 2008, she made it to the final round of ABC's "The Mole" reality show, taking second place. Dr. Williams has appeared in Redbook, Prevention Magazine, Cosmopolitan, Chicago Sun-Times, WomensForum.com, Buzzfeed, and Bustle. She is a tireless advocate for women's health issues, especially maternal issues, and has successfully lobbied Congress on behalf of her patients, having her formal remarks on maternal health entered into the public record. She has worked in Haiti, Rwanda, Ghana, the Philippines, and Cambodia, to name a few. Dr. Williams has also made many appearances on ABC, NPR, WGN, CBS and FOX Chicago as a noted speaker on women's health. In This is How You Vagina, Dr. Williams seeks to dispel all the myths she still hears from patients every day about their vaginas, and to empower them with vagina knowledge.
