18 Jan 2024 | Growing the top 2% - Legacies and Major Donors | 00:20:42
Speaker: Caroline Donald We all know how important high value legacies are. For most of us, good years are driven by this high value legacy group, and when they come, suddenly everyone is interested. But what if they don't come? What should we be doing now to make sure they come in the future? When I am older, wiser and being invited to legacy stewardship events myself, I want the pride of knowing that the biggest legacy I left for UNICEF was the work that I am doing now to help grow the top 2 per cent. Good thing I've got at least 20 years before I retire, because there is a lot to do and surprisingly very little understanding in the UK about wealthy individuals and what they are planning for their legacy giving. In 2022 I commissioned Legacy Voice to undertake some research into high value supporters and legacy giving for UNICEF and am happy to share some of what I have learned. Come and find out, from a fundraisers perspective, what you need to know about this audience, some of their motivations, a surprising competitor right under your nose, and what you might need to think about at your charity This podcast episode covers:

What do Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper, the Discover IT card, and successful fundraising all have in common? They’re all based on understanding how peoples’ brains work and how they make decisions. Product developers and for-profit marketers have all kinds of insight into what inspires people to buy a product. 30 Jun 2023 | A History of Fundraising’ with SOFII | 00:56:53
"Those who don't learn from the past are doomed to repeat it” Fundraising has a history full of innovation and stagnation, inspiration and scandal. But as fundraisers we know relatively little about our own history. If you ask a fundraiser about what has come before, you might hear answers like “we tried that once in 1983, and it didn’t work” or “we have been doing it since 1983, and it works, so don’t change it.” But if you look more closely, you can find examples of “innovations” that appear to have been introduced in the 80s or 90s that were actually pioneered in the 1880s or 1790s. What other gems lurking in the cupboards of our past have we yet to discover? In this episode, we’ll take a look at fundraising’s history to explore questions that can help guide our future.

13 Feb 2023 | The world has gone fully digital. Should the nonprofit sector? | 00:08:25
In some ways, we're in a golden age of fundraising. There have never been more ways to capture attention, rally supporters, generate revenue, and measure fundraising performance than there are today. The accessibility of this technology has also never been greater, even to the smallest charities. But with all the software, tools, apps and intelligence available to us, why has fundraising performance stagnated? Has technology actually gotten in the way of building a personal connection with our supporters? In the book, Robots Make Bad Fundraisers: How Nonprofits Can Maintain the Heart in the Digital Age, Steven Shattuck explores ways to apply time-tested principles of philanthropy to the modern technology available to fundraisers - with the goal of keeping the donors we already have, inspiring new donors to give, and maintaining the sanity of our team members. Listen now to a chapter reading by Fundraising Everywhere's Simon Scriver.
