19 Sep 2023 | Touched Out with Amanda Montei | 00:48:13
I am super thrilled to be sharing this conversation that I had with Amanda Montei. Amanda is the author of TOUCHED OUT: MOTHERHOOD, MISOGYNY, CONSENT, AND CONTROL, out this month, September, 2023 from Beacon Press. She's also the author of a memoir called Two Memoirs and a collection of prose titled The Failure Age. Amanda's work has been featured in the New York Times, The Cut, Romper, Mother Tongue, Slate, Vox, and more. I came across Amanda's work in 2020 during the pandemic. I had been really drawn to journalists who were writing about motherhood at the time and came across Amanda's work. I subscribed to her newsletter on Substack called Mad Woman and really have enjoyed and learned a lot from her feminist commentary on politics, pop culture, and most of all motherhood. On this episode we talk about touched out, both the book that is coming out, but also the concept. Amanda really unpacks the concept and discusses the sense that once you become a mother, your body doesn't feel like it really belongs to you anymore. It's like it belongs to our kids, or it belongs to our partners. I hope you enjoy this smart, informative, and thought-provoking discussion. 12 Sep 2023 | Radicalized by Motherhood with Imani Payne | 00:47:10
I'm really excited today to share this conversation that I had with Imani Payne. Imani is a parent, consultant, space holder, advocate, and commentator on modern American motherhood. She aims to create a community through connection while sharing her personal matrescence journey online. I found Imani through a reel on Instagram where she talks about how nothing will radicalize you quicker than becoming an American mother. And I really resonated with her message. I think you will too. We get into all of that as well as her experience becoming a mother. Some themes that come up are talking about her ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage, secondary infertility, navigating the medical system, and how she ultimately became radicalized by motherhood and how she has worked to unlearn a lot of the societal messages that we all receive. So I think you're really going to enjoy this smart and insightful conversation. 14 Nov 2023 | Fair Play with Eve Rodsky | 00:57:34
Today I am speaking with Eve Rodsky about division of domestic labor, the mental health impact of maternal stress, and the Fair Play Method. Eve Rodsky transformed a “blueberries breakdown” into a catalyst for social change when she applied her Harvard trained background in organizational management to ask the simple yet profound question: What would happen if we treated our homes as our most important organizations? Her New York Times bestselling book and Reese’s Book Club Pick, Fair Play, a gamified life-management system that helps partners rebalance their domestic workload and reimagine their relationship, has elevated the cultural conversation about the value of unpaid labor and care. In her highly anticipated follow-up, Find Your Unicorn Space: Reclaim Your Creative Life in a Too-Busy World, Rodsky explores the cross-section between the science of creativity, productivity, and resilience. Described as the ‘antidote to physical, mental and emotional burnout,’ Rodsky aims to inspire a new narrative around the equality of time and the individual right to personal time choice that influences sustainable and lasting change on a policy level. 03 Sep 2023 | The Feminist Mom Podcast Trailer | 00:02:17
Did motherhood not only change you as a person, but change the way you view our society? Do you love your children but not always love motherhood because of how little our society actually values and supports moms? Maybe you’ve identified as a feminist forever or perhaps you’ve only recently come to notice the ways that women and mothers are oppressed by the patriarchy. Well I have a podcast for you! Introducing the Feminist Mom Podcast, where we look at motherhood through a feminist lens. My name is Erin Spahr. I’m a licensed therapist, feminist, and mother of two. Join me and my guests as we unpack the societal narratives surrounding modern motherhood and discuss how we can overcome them- both individually in our own lives and as a community. We’ll talk about how we are pushing back against oppressive gender roles and fighting for more equitable division of labor in the home and in the workplace. I’ve invited inspiring feminist moms from all walks of life to help us deepen our awareness of how intersecting forms of oppression impact our experiences as mothers and to help us realize the collective power that mothers have in shaping the next generation. My hope is that you’ll find these conversations relatable, validating and thought provoking. That you will share these episodes with people in your life to help facilitate discussions and increase mutual understanding. That you will feel more confident in your decisions as a mother and feel the support of a community of other feminist moms like you. Whether you're a mom, a supportive partner or simply interested in the intersection of feminism and motherhood, this podcast is for you. Yara is a Perth psychologist who works exclusively with women throughout conception, pregnancy, and motherhood. Yara started Life After Birth Psychology following the birth of her first son which started her on yet another journey of self-rediscovery. Her experiences throughout early motherhood drew her to support other women as they navigate their own family of origin dynamics, the social programming of the “good mother”, relationship changes with those around them, identity shifts, and role changes to find their place of balance and authenticity as mothers. She is also the host of Life After Birth with Yara, a podcast dedicated to sharing the stories of women as they navigate life as mothers.
