In this episode, we spoke to Aussie Marathoner Lee Troop and discussed his experiences of competing in the Sydney, Athens and Beijing Olympic Games. 

Lee or 'Troopy' as he's affectionately known as in Australia, broke the Australian 5000m record in 1999 and ran a blistering 2:09:49 Marathon PB in 2003. It wasn't all plain sailing though, and Lee contended with plenty of ups and downs throughout his career making him one of the more enigmatic characters on the Marathon circuit. Troopy discusses his jet-setting journey into competitive running and has some memorable anecdotes about his time in Texas and working with iconic figures like Steve Moneghetti. 

We also discussed the mental health issues that are prevalent amongst those competing at elite levels. Lee's frank and personal stories offer an important insight into the pressures that Athletes face and he has a wealth of experience in the industry, making for a unique perspective. 

Lee's continued to pursue his love for running since moving to Boulder in 2009, he began coaching in 2011 and his stable includes exciting talents like Laura Thweatt and Olympic Marathon qualifier Jake Riley. We discuss this and even touch upon the 'Super Shoe' debate - dive on in.

Alfie Barbeary is one of the brightest young talents in English Rugby. Aged just 21, he’s been involved in a number of England training camps and has played a starring role in Wasps’ last 4 seasons.

With serious pace for a big man, Alfie’s been setting the Rugby World alight and is no stranger to the whitewash, scoring an impressive 19 tries in 32 games for his club. We caught up with him just before a huge clash with French titans Biarritz.

He now travels the world spreading the word of how sports can elevate the deprived and help bring them out of poverty.

Team New Balance Manchester are the only professional running team in the UK, with a proper running setup. Adam Craig talks about what it is like to be a professional athlete that is a part of a team rather than a solo runner. Adam talks about why the UK scene needs more professional teams and how it would help the sport progress. 

This year Adam also competed at the Highgate Night of 10k PB's where he ran 29:50 after an altitude training camp. We talk about how training at altitude can help improve a runners performance and why Adam chose to move to the road after Highgate. 

As a professional athlete Adam has so much more to offer in the marathon and I can't wait to see what his professional marathon career has in store for him.

On this episode of The Volt Cast, a podcast where I sit down with professional athletes and talk about their journey to success in the sporting world. I'm joined by Daniel Dixon a professional triathlete from Northumberland England. 

After a successful junior career, this year Dan has graduated to the senior ranks where he competed alongside Alex Yee and Hayden Wilde in the Super League Triathlon. In the summer he was also lucky enough to represent Team England at the Commonwealth games where he secured an astonishing 12th place at his first world major performance at the age of only 20. 

Dan knows that competing at the top level as a professional athlete can be hard so we spoke about how he sees himself developing in the professional scene in 2023. He mentioned that he knows he's one of the young one's and can't wait to see how he progresses in the sport. Both Alex Yee and Hayden Wilde are 4 years older than Dan, so these coming years are about focusing on the process of being a professional athlete in order to be in with a shot at world titles.

Matt Stonier at the age of only 21 has already accomplished so much on the track and is guaranteed to have another impressive season as he returns from altitude and targets some key indoor races. On top of this Matt is juggling studying at university! He speaks about his time so far at Loughborough University  and how the elite athlete setup there means he can always perform his best.

On this episode I'm joined by Nate Riech - Paralympic Champion and Record Holder in the 1500m. Nate Riech was paralysed on his left side of his body, after being hit in the back of his head with a golf ball at the age of 10. Coming from a family of Olympians and sportspeople, Nate Reich knew that he was born to be athletic.

 After learning to walk again, Nate begun to run and hasn't looked back. Nate Riech now holds titles such as World Champion, Paralympic Champion and World Record Holder. Even though these titles sound great, there is a harsh reality around gaining sponsors in the paralympic field. Nate has trained with some of the greatest runners alive such as Jake Wightman, and also trains as hard as the Ingebritsen brothers but he remains un-sponsored. I hope this podcast sheds light on a part of a sport that isn't usually talked about.
