30 Mar 2023The Eight Mindsets Ethics Madness 202300:52:49

About The Eight Mindsets podcast

The Eight Mindsets is brought to you by Nicole Rose and Jason Meyer of The Eight Mindset initiative.  Based on their conversations with the global leaders in the Eight Mindsets Cohort, each week they incorporate Compliance, Ethics, Training , HR, Risk, Management, Leadership, Corporate Culture, Corporate Responsibility, Conduct, Code of Conduct, Education into their discussions. Plus the recommended action items and Compliance Anthem of the Week, that have made the Eight Mindsets Podcast so popular.

In this episode…

Ethics Madness is back, baby!

Welcome to the 2023 edition of Jason Meyer’s nearly-annual exploration of the intersection of ethics and sports, in celebration of the NCAA basketball championships.

This year, Jason is joined again by Tom Fox, the Texas-based FCPA guru and “The Voice of Compliance,” for this special joint presentation of The Eight Mindsets Podcast and Tom’s Compliance Podcast Network.

Jason and Tom talk trash about ethical challenges in the world of sports, and about sports as an object lesson for ethics and compliance programs and professionals. Among the topics they attempt this year:

  • Alabama Basketball: Can you love the play but hate the player (can you love the art but not the artist)? And was this any way to build a culture?

  • Coach Rick Pitino and the Houston Astros: What does it take to be redeemed for past misconduct?

  • Kansas Coach Bill Self: Some personal lessons in compliance.

  • DEI in higher education: Schools are walking the tightrope.

  • The ESG Rule: So I can bet on sports, but I can’t bet on compliant companies? Huh?

Correction:  In his discussion of the shooting incident involving Alabama players, Jason Meyer referred to the victim as a man. Jamea Harris was female. We regret the error.

Part 1 Is Big C Compliance Weakening Culture?

A Multicultural Approach to Ethics

About The Eight Mindsets podcast:

What mindsets are critical to leading the hearts, minds and behaviours of any team? What are the keys to success to actually moving the needle, as a leader of a business – or of a legal, compliance, risk or HR function?

The answer is a distinctive multidisciplinary approach based in business and brain science — that’s what The Eight Mindsets is all about.

The podcast is hosted by the founders of The Eight Mindset initiative — both practicing lawyers, both creative compliance consultants, and both successful business leaders:  Nicole Rose of Untold Compliance in Australia, and Jason Meyer of LeadGood Education in the United States.

Based on their conversations with global business leaders, they incorporate Law, Leadership, Compliance, Ethics, Training, HR, Risk, Management, Corporate Culture, Corporate Responsibility, Conduct, Code of Conduct, Education, Entrepreneurship and brain science into their discussions.

About this series:

In this 4-part series we are joined by Ruth Steinholtz. Ruth brings more than 30 years of experience as a corporate lawyer with a unique multicultural and multidisciplinary approach.

Together we delve into the following thought-provoking questions:

  1.  Has Compliance assumed far too greater a role in our organisations?
  2. Does the intense focus on compliance hinder rather than help organizations?
  3. Are the abundance of policies, procedures, and related activities causing employee disengagement?
  4. What alternative approaches should we consider?
  5. How can we pivot towards strategies more conducive to success?

29 Mar 2024The Eight Mindsets Ethics Madness 202401:00:56

Based on their conversations with global business leaders, each week they incorporate Law, Leadership, Compliance, Ethics, Training, HR, Risk, Management, Corporate Culture, Corporate Responsibility, Conduct, Code of Conduct, Education, Entrepreneurship and brain science into their discussions.

Plus each episode features recommended action items and the Compliance Anthem of the Week, that have made the Eight Mindsets Podcast so popular.

    In this episode…

March is the time for madness – and Ethics Madness is back for its 2024 edition.

Ethics Madness is Jason Meyer’s nearly-annual exploration of the intersection of ethics and sports, in celebration of the NCAA basketball championships.

This year, Jason is joined again by Tom Fox, “The Voice of Compliance” and founder of the Compliance Podcast Network.

Jason and Tom talk trash about ethical challenges in the world of sports, and about sports as a source of lessons for compliance programs and business leaders. This year, each topic is on the clock, so things move briskly! Among the buzzer beaters they attempt this year:

    • The NCAA and NILs — plus picking brackets as an exercise in procedural justice

    • The PGA and LIV — and when “tone at the top” doesn’t work

    • MLB rule changes — and the Mindset of the Audience

    • The NFL and CTE — every fan’s ethical conundrum

    • Travis Kelce, Caitlin Clark, and the Mindset of the Entrepreneur

    • Our picks for “One Slimy Moment”

    • And the Compliance Anthem of the Week! (WINNING!)

Sports fan or not, listen in to the fun of our annual special edition!

    5.  The worst thing you could do as a whistleblower and the reason that Robert had to repeat the same message to a client more than 100 times to stop them from taking this action.

    6.  Why accountability and justice trumps money for the whistleblower.

    7.  The process that Robert actually uses when working with a whistleblower.

    8.  What you can and cannot do from a company’s perspective to prevent a whistleblower from speaking up outside of the organization.

    9.  If you think you already have a glowing compliance program, Robert provides some realistic, no-nonsense feedback on what the regulators are really looking for.
