We are joined by Denny Wang who moved from Hong Kong and Basmah Al-Otaibi who moved from Kuwait both to join post-graduate training at the Eastman. Denny has completed his training in Prosthodontics and Basmah is in the midst of her training in Paediatric Dentistry. Emma started her career as a dental nurse with Ellis Paul who was the godfather of good dental posture and four handed dentistry. From there she undertook roles in both periodontal specialist practices and dental hospital, becoming the only Macmillan oral health practitioner in the country. She is the chairperson for the Society of British Dental Nurses involved in the production of numerous guidance documents. This week, we bring you the inspiring career journey of Sarah Maher. Sarah fell into dentistry at 15, completing her work experience at a practice where her next-door neighbour worked. She nursed for the dentist for the whole week which led to a job offer 2 years later when she completed college. After trying her hand at all aspects of dental treatments, Sarah went from chair side to running an urgent care centre. She then landed the role of Service Lead, managing the entire service for 6 months prior to the start of the pandemic. Now as Director of Operations for a small group of orthodontic practices, Sarah works to develop software, aligners, and educational opportunities such as Orthodontic Therapy apprenticeships.

Andrew Noon initially trained as a Dental Technician, working at Guy's Dental Hospital producing orthodontic appliances for 15 years. Following the birth of his son, he decided it was finally time to become patient facing and pivoted back into education to retrain as an Orthodontic Therapist. On The Eastman Dental Podcast this week, Jocelyn (Joss) Harding joins Julia and Josh for the first episode of Series 3.Joss started her dental career in the Royal Navy at the age of 19, where she completed training and qualified as a dental hygienist. In her 9-year career, Joss served in the UK and abroad, supporting general dentists and specialists. Joss is now a clinical ambassador for the Mouth Cancer Foundation and part of the working party updating the 2021 GOV.UK DBOH guidelines in the prevention and early detection of mouth cancer. She is also a part of the United Kingdom Oral Management in Cancer care group (UKOMIC) and the World Dental Federation (FDI) consensus group. To kick off Series 4 of The Eastman Dental Podcast, we are joined by the Editor-in-Chief of the British Dental Journal, Stephen Hancocks. Leaving the bustling city of Birmingham to the quiet aisle of Lewes to study Dental Therapy at the University of the Highlands and Islands was just the start of a 7-year journey for this week’s guest. Jyoti Sumel qualified in 2016 and has since achieved a vast amount in her short career so far. After working in primary care, she moved into community care to utilise full scope of practice and provide support and care to more vulnerable patients. As part of our Patient Experience Mini Series, this week we are joined by David Goodge.
