After interviewing over 500 health experts, and hitting 2 million downloads on his podcast, Chase has learned more in the last couple of years than many people learn in a lifetime, on the subject of health and fitness.

A Virginia native and Army veteran, Chase is a Virginia Commonwealth University alum, graduating from their Health, Physical Education and Exercise Science undergraduate program in 2013. Having completed his MS in Health Promotion from American University in Washington, DC he also holds the following credentials: ACE Certified Health Coach and TRX Certified Suspension Trainer.

Living a life of wellness has always been a part of him - since growing up eating fresh food from his grandparents' garden, playing baseball throughout school and enjoying time in the mountains surrounding his family's southwest VA home. After six years of active duty, Chase was medically discharged from the military due a string of injuries that ultimately required him to have bilateral reconstructive hip surgeries. After learning how to walk again, twice, exercise as medicine and healthy lifestyle modifications became his passion.

27 Mar 2019093 The Dirty Dozen Fruits and Veggies 201900:23:00

The "Dirty Dozen" are those fruits and vegetables that contain so much pesticides that organic is highly recommended. And the list in 2019 includes some surprises!

I also discuss the Clean 15, those most likely to be pesticide free in non-organic form.

Lots of interesting health factoids in this podcast, including:
-70% of non-organic samples tested contained at least one pesticide, and many contained multiple pesticides.
-one Kale sample had 18 different types of pesticides in it!
-many of these results are disturbing and many of these chemicals are banned for use on food in other countries.
-The United States Department of Agriculture tests found 225 different pesticides and pesticide breakdown products on thousands of produce samples analyzed.

Environmental Working group analyzed USDA pesticide residue data and found that almost 70 percent of non-organic produce sampled tested positive for pesticide contamination.

More than 90 percent of samples of strawberries, apples, cherries, spinach, nectarines and kale tested positive for residues of two or more pesticides

-60% of kale samples tested contained Dacthal, a potentially carcinogenic pesticide that's banned in Europe. It's use is legal in the US on Kale, Broccoli, Sweet Potatoes, Eggplant and Turnips.
-The problem can't be washed away. Systemic pesticides are inside the produce and can't be washed away.

11 May 2022The Fascinating World of Gut Health and the Incredible Value of a GI Map test.00:48:35

I finally got my first comprehensive gut health panel, and review the results of the test with Cheri Stoka, RDN, CD, CLT

Gut health is more than a buzz word in health anymore. And gut health is more than just simple digestive issues. We are learning that the gut truly is the second brain of the body, and that autoimmune conditions can trace their source there, and even depression and anxiety have been correlated to it.

The gut is this mysterious, confusing, and in some ways scary place with bacteria, viruses, pathogens, and even worms.

So I was really excited to get the results back of my own first ever GI map, that showed me just what was going on. And I'm happy to report that of the thousands of tests Cheri has done, mine was one of the best, if not the best. I hope you find similar things. And its worth checking into!

So, turns out the immune system is pretty important for keeping us alive and thriving, and Sara Banta has had to learn that the hard way.

Through her journey, she has had to solve many health issues within her family including her son suffering from leukemia at the age of nine, her daughter having allergies, anemia and asthma, her husband having heart issues, her other daughter having comprehension and learning issues, in addition to headaches.  This of course is on top of her own issues with fertility, hormones, adult acne, IBS, digestive issues, heavy metals and much more.  She has had to Connect the dots and realize what was causing all of these issues and what the solutions were, which also of course involved the mind body connection. We often see statements like, "My doctors says I don't need supplements," or "Just eat a healthy diet and you'll get all the vitamins and minerals you need!"

And while these sentiments are well meaning, they aren't backed up by science. Every time I see these statements, I ask the people if they are willing to share the results of the test showing that they don't have any vitamin or mineral deficiencies. And every time the answer is predictable... they have no evidence they have no deficiencies.

Yet every testing lab in the country will tell you that all the tests show deficiencies, sometimes bad ones. So why would doctors be so careful about diagnosing everything else, yet send people with deficiencies home with the mistaken idea they had none, without running tests?

In this episode, I explore the current research on the topic, along with the legitimate concerns many doctors have with the dietary supplements industry.
