16 Apr 2021Ep. 20: Turning the page on the deadline & talking about the draft with Chris Peters!00:46:55
With the trade deadline in the rear-view mirror, we decided to turn our attention to the draft this week on The DFO Rundown! In a normal season, this is right around the time when the league's draft lottery would be happening and with a lot of teams already out of the playoff race, now seemed like a perfect time to take a peek at the next wave of NHL stars. To do that, who better to bring into the podcast than Chris Peters of HockeySense!

Chris is now in his second decade of scouting NHL prospects but of course, with the pandemic, this season has been unlike any other. Chris talked to us about how much difficult it is to scout a player solely off video and also, lessons he's learned through his 10 plus years of watching prospects. From there, we got into some of the big names in this year's draft class like Owen Power, the two elite goalies in this year's class, and a name that already has scouts split. We also touched on Cole Caufield, who was recalled by the Montreal Canadiens today.

From there, they went around the NHL and dug into each of the first-round series.

The Panthers may have saved their season on Thursday night but they also might have a bit of a goaltending controversy on their hands. Speaking of goaltending controversies, there might be one brewing in Vegas and it won't just impact their playoff run. It will also make their choice at the expansion draft an interesting one. They wrapped up the playoff talk by looking at which deadline acquisition has had the biggest impact on their new club.   They moved on to talk about some of the teams out of the playoffs and which organizations could make big changes, and which ones could give their current groups another chance. Vancouver and Calgary were the focus here.   They wrapped up the episode with a little 'Buy/Sell, which focused on the playoffs, a few individual players, Nazem Kadri, and a trio of Canadian teams!

They also talked about his post-playing career life, the surprising LA Kings, and their next wave of young talent.   They wrapped up this week's episode by talking a little bit more about the Calgary Flames and also, Frank dropped a few teams that are currently in the market for goaltending help.

Jason and Frank are here to bring you into the weekend with another hour of hockey talk on The DFO Rundown! They kicked off today's episode by looking back at a wild Thursday night in the NHL.

From there, they got into three teams that are facing issues between the pipes. The Leafs' problems aren't getting any better any time soon, the Golden Knights have sent Robin Lehner back to Vegas with a lower-body injury (Dr. Seravalli gave his diagnosis), and the Oilers might be running with Stuart Skinner and Mikko Koskinen.

They both also gave their thoughts on what Jack Eichel had to say about his return to Buffalo. Did he go too far? Does the NHL benefit from this?

There was plenty to discuss with some big trades going down in Philadelphia and Chicago; and what went down in the draft. On top of that, NHL free agency is coming up this Wednesday, with several big names still available. Where will Dougie Hamilton land? Will the Oilers figure out their defensive issues? And where will each goaltender fall? Jason and Frank discussed everything you need to know on episode 49 of The DFO Rundown!

They wrapped it up with some talk about the Winnipeg Jets, who will need to really turn it up in the second half. Could they sell off some assets at the deadline? They also dug into the COVID/taxi squad situation and Frank talked about having to teach his kids how to ski.

The playoffs are underway and they are not disappointing! Frank Seravalli and Jason Gregor got right into things by talking about the crazy number of overtime games to start things off and the red-hot rivalry between the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning.

Off the ice, there is plenty of drama as well. Frank got into what's going on with Kuznetsov, Samsonov, and the Capitals. Is there a real chance that Kuznetsov will be traded? Frank had the answer. The big-name that will be in the rumour mill of course is Jack Eichel, but, the surgery he wants to have a hot-button issue. Could that make him untradeable? The guys debated it. They wrapped up the opening segment by talking about the Vancouver Canucks offseason and what needs to happen.   To further get into the Stanley Cup Playoffs spirit, the guys welcomed Dave Bolland into the Wood Jerseys studio! The two-time Stanley Cup Champion talked about winning it all with the Hawks, the crazy parties that come with it, and gave us his take on this year's postseason. Of course, we couldn't let him leave without running him through a quick round of 'Rapid Fire'.

To kick off today's episode, the guys talked about the insane amount of games that Noodles has watched this season (hint: it's a lot). On that topic, they went around the league and looked at how some of the big trade deadline acquisitions are performing with their new teams. Of course, you can't have Noodles on and not talk a little bit about goaltending. Gregor got him to touch on the likes on Philip Grubauer, Mike Smith, and Freddy Andersen. We also got Noodles to take part in this week's edition of Buy/Sell that saw us touch on Ryan Miller, Spencer Knight, Kirill Kaprizov (again), the Flyers, and Connor McDavid's pursuit of 100.

A new episode of The DFO Rundown is here! To start this week's episode, Jason brings in a travelling Frank Seravalli, who is on the road covering the Stanley Cup Final. Frank is starting to buy into the Canadiens hype heading into their series against Tampa Bay while Jason still believes it will be the Lightning who comes out on top. They also touched on the Jack Eichel situation and Frank dropped one team that has been increased their interest in the Sabres star forward.

They then welcomed in Katie Strang from The Athletic, who has been covering the allegations of sexual abuse against the Chicago Blackhawks. The NHL has been quiet on the topic, something that may change soon, but Katie shone some light on what really should be the biggest story in hockey and one of the biggest stories in sports.

20 May 2022Craig MacTavish on the Battle of Alberta, his career, and golfing with Tiger Woods01:05:55

A new episode of The DFO Rundown is here to take you into the weekend! Frank and Jason are both out in Calgary to cover the Battle of Alberta and they kicked off the podcast by talking about the wildly entertaining series opener that we saw on Wednesday. They outlined what both teams need to do in order to clean up their games. The Oilers are very banged up right now with key players like Leon Draisaitl and Darnell Nurse clearly labouring. That could derail things for the Oilers. The Flames scored nine goals in game one but as the guys discussed, that performance won't sit well with Darryl Sutter. They also hit on the Panthers being down 2-0 to the Tampa Bay Lightning after two games in Florida. They also welcomed in Tyler Yaremchuk for a new edition of 'Fill in the Blank'!

Their guest today was Craig MacTavish. As a former Oilers player, Head Coach, and GM, he has plenty of great stories when it comes to the Battle of Alberta. He also gave us some insight into what allowed the Flames to look so good and what the Oilers will need to do in order to bounce back in game two. He also shared a tremendous story about the time he played a round with the greatest golfer ever!

23 May 2022Connor McDavid is on another level & the defending champs can't be stopped!00:41:56

We have wrapped up another wild weekend of playoff hockey! Jason and Frank broke it all down today on a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown! They started the podcast by talking about the fact that the Florida Panthers are staring down the barrel of a potential sweep at the hands of the Tampa Bay Lightning. The two-time defending Stanley Cup Champions are absolutely rolling right now and the Panthers just aren't even close to their level.

They hit on the other three playoff series as well. The Rangers and Hurricanes series has been a little bit of a snooze-fest, according to Jason's son, and it's hard to argue with that. The Avs have found a way to go up 2-1 in their series vs St. Louis despite the fact that both Cale Makar and Nathan MacKinnon have been quieter than we expected. Of course, the big story from game three was the Nazem Kadri incident. Frank and Jason each gave their take on the play and the unfortunate aftermath of it.

And finally, they talked about the Battle of Alberta! The Oilers are coming off an incredible game three victory and now lead the series 2-1. McDavid is on another level right now as well and it just looks like the Flames don't have an answer for the Oiler's high-octane top line.

To wrap up the episode, Tyler Yaremchuk hopped in for a new episode of Buy or Sell that was focused on potential offseason moves!

27 May 2022Ray Ferraro on the Oilers series win & the Hurricanes wild streaks00:58:40

Well, the Battle of Alberta certainly lived up to the hype. Edmonton and Calgary battled it out for five games with each one being wildly entertaining with plenty of scoring, lots of lead changes, and some very memorable moments. In the end, it was Connor McDavid who was the hero in the clinching game for the Oilers. Frank and Jason started the podcast by recapping the BOA and talking about what impressed them with the Oilers series win. They also hit on the New York vs Carolina series. Can the Hurricanes finally win a game on the road and wrap up the series?

Their guest today was ESPN analyst Ray Ferraro. Ray talked about the maturity that the Oilers showed by consistently over-coming deficits in their series. He also hit on the Hurricanes vs Rangers series, which he's been between the benches for. The Canes can't be beaten at home but can't find a way to win on the road. Ray gave us some insight into that trend.

To wrap up the episode, Frank and Jason talked about the Flame's season being over and what could be coming next for players like Johnny Gaudreau and Matt Tkachuk. They also brought in Tyler Yaremchuk for a fresh round of Fill in the Blank delivered by DoorDash!

The Edmonton Oilers and Colorado Avalanche are set to square off in the Western Conference Finals starting on Tuesday night. It's expected to be a fast-paced, high-flying series featuring some of the biggest stars in the game. Frank and Jason gave their thoughts on how this series could play out and the key matchups for either side. Can Mike Smith outperform Darcy Kuemper? Can Cale Makar keep up with Connor McDavid? Which #29 will be more dominant? They answered all of those questions and talked about some other under-the-radar players who could make big impacts on this series.

Before that, they also looked at tonight's game seven matchup between the Carolina Hurricanes and New York Rangers. The home team has won every game in this series, will that trend continue tonight at PNC Arena?

To wrap up the episode, they welcomed in Tyler Yaremchuk for a fresh edition of Buy or Sell delivered by DoorDash. Tyler asked them about the GM of the Year Award, which got Frank very fired up. From there they hit on Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe odds. Frank also outed Tyler for what he likes to do while the podcast is being recorded in the morning.

Frank was in Colorado to cover the first two games of the series and gave some insight into what's allowed the Avalanche to dominate the Oilers for long stretches of these games. Jason also gave some insight into what the Oilers need to do differently as the series shifts back to Edmonton.

They were also joined by the play-by-play voice of the Tampa Bay Lightning Dave Randorf to talk about the start of the Eastern Conference Final. The Rangers won game one in convincing fashion but if any team can come back from a tough defeat, it's the Lightning. Dave, or should we say 'Jeff Thomas', talked about their playoff run and also how he got into broadcasting. He shared some great stories about his career in sports and his brief time as a wedding DJ.

They wrapped up today's episode with a fresh edition on 'Buy or Sell' delivered by Door Dash where Tyler sparked up a big conversation about breakfast foods.

We are just over a month away from the NHL Draft and while the Stanley Cup Playoffs are rightfully taking up a lot of the headlines right now, we decided to take this episode to preview the Draft with our very own prospect analyst Chris Peters. The combine just wrapped up and most of the prospects have finished their seasons so lists are starting to be finalized. 10 Jun 2022Trade Targets and Top Free Agents01:00:37

Yes, the playoffs are still going on but Frank and Jason decided to take today's episode to get ready for what could be a wild offseason around the NHL. There are some big names on Franks's trade targets board and that's where they started on the show. Alex Debrincat sits at the top of the list and represents a chance for the Chicago Blackhawks to really kickstart their rebuild. Will they cash in on his value this summer? Or will they wait until the deadline to do it? Frank says it's a matter of when not if the Hawks move on from him,

They also hit on the big decision the Oilers have to make with Evander Kane. Will anyone offer Kane a long-term deal? Both of the guys seemed to think that's unlikely. They also hit on the availability of both John Gibson and Connor Hellebucyck at different points throughout the show.

There are plenty of other teams who will be very interesting to watch. The Minnesota Wild will likely be moving Kevin Fiala, the Vancouver Canucks will need to decide what to do with JT Miller, the Flame's plans hinge on Johnny Gaudreau's decision, and

They also hit on some coaching candidates before getting to Tyler Yaremchuk for Buy or Sell delivered by DoorDash.

After winning four straight games against the New York Rangers, the Tampa Bay Lightning are off to their third straight Stanley Cup Final. If they want to win a third straight ring they'll have to beat arguably the toughest Finals opponent they've faced in the Colorado Avalanche. It's lining up to be an incredible series and Frank and Jason started today's podcast by previewing the matchup. They debated how many future Hall of Famers are playing in this Stanley Cup Final and they also drooled over the quality of hockey we will likely see over the next few weeks. It should be a great series and they debated the key matchups that will decide who gets to lift the Cup.

They were joined by former Colorado Avalanche forward Matt Calvert. He talked about his career, the time he spent with the Avs and what makes that group special, and also the new sports management company that he launched. He gave some tremendous insight into what makes players like Makar and MacKinnon tick. He also shared why he loved having Jared Bednar as a Head Coach.

17 Jun 2022Guy Carbonneau joins the show & we break down game one of the Stanley Cup Final00:43:41

The Stanley Cup Final got off to a flying start as the Avalanche walked away from game one with an overtime victory. Speaking of flying... Jason had a great story about his trip to Montreal that involves a cab driver getting pulled over and being given an insane speeding ticket. Since Jason is in Montreal, there was a natural tie-in to the trade that went down yesterday between the Canadiens and the Vegas Golden Knights. On the surface, that trade might be a little confusing but Frank and Jason broke down why that deal actually makes a lot of sense for both sides.

They also spent some time talking about the goaltending market and which teams are going to be looking to get involved this summer. From free agents to trade targets, there are plenty of intriguing names that could be available this summer. Tyler Yaremchuk also stopped by for another edition of Buy or Sell delivered by DoorDash.

To wrap up the episode today, they were joined by former HHOFer Guy Carbonneau. He's teaming up with 3Ice, the new 100 percent 3-on-3 hockey league launching this summer. He talked about getting back behind the bench with the new start-up, how the league works, who's on his team, and how fans can take in the action this summer. It's overtime, all the time and Guy talked about how he'll attack that as a coach.

20 Jun 2022Is this going to be a short Stanley Cup Final? Plus: we talk NFT's with Thomas Sychertz00:48:15

A new episode of The DFO Rundown is here! Jason is out living his best life in Montreal watching F1, but Frank and Tyler were here to break down what we saw in game two of the Stanley Cup Final. The Avalanche are still looking like a juggernaut and Frank has some serious questions about whether or not the Lightning are going to be able to find a way to get back in this series. The talk about Colorado's big win led them into a conversation about just how much Valeri Nichuskin could make in free agency. Tyler also hit Frank with some trade questions in Fill in the Blank delivered by Door Dash.

We also had a conversation with Thomas Sychertz, a former NCAA goaltender who is now leading a brand called 'Lipsweater' which is looking to merge the NFT world and the hockey world. The word NFT can automatically lead people to dismiss the idea, but Thomas explained why 'Lipsweater' is simply here to make being a hockey fan better.

Day one of free agency in the NHL started with a bang as we got a flurry of moves right when the official window opened up at noon eastern time. From there, they hit on pretty much every major move that we saw today from the way the goaltending market played out to even some of the big trades that went down in between all the big signings. Some teams came out looking really good while others, like the Vegas Golden Knights, really couldn't find a way to improve their rosters.

They also talked about the big-name UFAs that didn't find new homes today like Nazem Kadri, Ondrej Palat, and John Klingberg. Frank gave us the latest on what the market looks like for those players. 09 Aug 2022Panthers GM Bill Zito breaks down his blockbuster summer01:12:30

We continued our August interview series by catching up with Panthers GM Bill Zito. Some would say that he's been the busiest man in hockey this summer as he hired Paul Maurice, filled out the edges of his roster in free agency, oh, and he also happened to orchestrate one of the biggest trades of the salary cap era. He broke down how the mega-deal between the Panthers and Flames went down and why he's excited to welcome Matt Tkachuk to his organization. He also spoke a little bit about why it made sense to trade away Jonathan Huberdeau, who holds many Panthers franchise records, and Mackenzie Weegar, who many view as a top pairing defenseman.

He also talked about his journey to being a General Manager, his risk tolerance, and how he goes about building what he hopes to be a Stanley Cup champion.

Before the interview with Bill, Frank and Jason talked about Huberdeau's new contract with the Calgary Flames and also the status of some of the remaining UFA's like Nazem Kadri, Phil Kessel, and PK Subban.

Our summer interview series continued today as Frank Seravalli had a chance to catch up with Per Mars of Marsblade. The former NHL Draft Pick started up the company and changed the game when it comes to offseason training and roller blades. He's now getting into the skate blade business and talked about that new venture and also how his business has grown so rapidly.

Before we got to that interview, Jason Gregor talked about the latest surrounding Nazem Kadri and whether or not he'll eventually sign with the New York Islanders. He also hit on the number of Achilles injuries that we're seeing this summer around the NHL this summer as players get ready for the start of the season. Tyler Yaremchuk also stopped by for a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked Jason about the Golden Knights goaltending and the two also talked about their potential wildcard teams in each conference.

24 Aug 2022The summer of Brad continues, Frank returns from Italy, and the future of Patrick Kane00:48:59

Jason and Frank were reunited today on the pod as Frank returned from his summer holiday in Italy. He started the show by talking about his time there, and the food he ate. He also gave some travel tips for those thinking of going. It was a relaxed episode of the pod as they really didn't get into much hockey talk for the first five minutes but hey, it's August.

When they did get to the hockey talk, they started with what's going on in Calgary as GM Brad Treliving made another huge splash last week landing start free agent Nazem Kadri. Are the Flames now back to being the team to beat in the Pacific? Or is it the Oilers' division to lose? Frank and Jason debated that. From there, they hit on the Canes getting a bargain deal done with Paul Stastny, the situation in Vegas, and the Islanders not doing anything this summer after missing the playoffs in 2021-22.

They also brought in Tyler Yaremchuk for Fill in The Blank delivered by DoorDash. He asked them about some remaining free agents, which rookies they're excited to watch next season and their all-time favourite arena names.

He spoke about that role, some of his more memorable moments on the ice during his career, and also the book he wrote about his life. 26 Sep 2022Avs GM Chris MacFarland joins the show & we preview the Central Division01:16:05

With just a few weeks to go until the regular season gets started, we began our yearly division preview series and it only made sense to start with the division that features the reigning Stanley Cup Champions. We did a deep dive on the Avs and were joined by their new General Manager Chris MacFarland. He talked about inking Nathan MacKinnon to a record-setting contract extension, his journey to becoming a GM, and how the rest of the Avs roster is looking after a short summer.

Jason and Frank also gave their thoughts on every other team in the Central Division. There are two clear 'have-nots' with the Blackhawks and Coyotes both clearly planning to 'suck hard for Bedard' as Frank would say. There are some intriguing teams in the middle of this division though and perhaps no one has more on the line than the Winnipeg Jets, who had quite a bit of off-ice drama over the last few months. Fans of the Dallas Stars are also holding their breath as Jason Robertson still doesn't have a contract. Frank gave us the latest on that as well.

We are just under a week away from real, regular-season NHL hockey! With the season just around the corner, Frank and Jason continued their season previews today by taking a deep look at the Metro. They started things off by welcoming in Carolina Hurricanes Head Coach Rod Brind'Amour. Rod talked about the busy summer the team's front office had and how he feels about the new mix of guys they added over the last few months. His mentality is simple: Stanley Cup or bust and he explained why the group they have is good enough to go all the way. We also talked to him about his gym routine and he told us about the absolutely stacked youth team that he coaches.

After the chat with Rod, the guys got into every other team in the division. Last year there was a 16-point gap between fourth and fifth in the division but there's no denying that things will be tighter this season. Could a team that missed the post season last year squeak in this time around? Frank and Jason gave their takes on that and more in our full Metropolitan Division preview. Of course, Tyler Yaremchuk also popped in for a new edition of 'Fill in the Blank' delivered by DoorDash.

From there, they talked about the news that the salary cap could go up as much as $4.5 million this summer. Frank explained how that could happen and Jason shared a few teams that would really benefit from this happening.

To wrap things up, Tyler Yaremchuk joined the guys for Buy or Sell delivered by DoorDash. He asked them about some potential 40-goal scorers and he shared who the most profitable team in the league has been from a betting perspective so far this season.

24 Oct 2022Stars GM Jim Nill on his busy summer & the team's hot start01:10:07

Last week, it was all about early season overreactions. Now some of those early season concerns in some markets are becoming more and more legitimate. In no city is that more true than Vancouver, where the Canucks went another week without getting a victory and things are fully off the rails. Frank and Jason discussed the comments from Bo Horvat, Jim Rutherford, and Bruce Boudreau. Can things get better in Vancouver or do they need to make some serious changes?

They also talked about Sidney Crosby’s dominant start to the season and they debated where he could finish in the all-time scoring race. Is Crosby the kind of player who could be productive into his 40’s?

Their big guest today was Dallas Star’s General Manager Jim Nill. His team is off to a flying start as one of the few teams remaining who hasn’t lost a game in regulation time. It was a busy summer though as Nill not only had to find a new coaching staff, he also made some big splashes in free agency and he had to lock up a few pieces of the teams core. Jim talked about building this version of the Dallas Stars, the transition from the Benn/Seguin core to the Heiskanen/Robertson core, and his career as an executive in the NHL.

28 Oct 2022The Bruins hot start, ASU overreaction, & McDavid's Rocket Richard chances00:53:25

The guys are back with a fresh Friday edition of The DFO Rundown as they went around the NHL and dug into the biggest storylines from around the NHL. To kick things off, they looked at the team that’s surprisingly being talked about more than anyone: The Arizona Coyotes. It’s not because of anything they’ve done on the ice but instead how things are looking off the ice as they get set to play their first game on the ASU campus.

From there, they hit on a bunch of other teams. The Bruins are looking like a juggernaut early in the season, the Flyers are leading the Metro Division, the Canucks finally slid into the win column, and the New Jersey Devils are starting to find their groove after a slow start.

To wrap up today’s episode, they brought in Tyler Yaremchuk for a new edition of Buy or Sell delivered by DoorDash. Tyler asked them about the futures of the Kraken and Canucks, Sorokin’s Vezina chances, and the percentage chance that McDavid wins the Rocket Richard.

3:15 - ASU/Coyotes overreaction

31 Oct 2022Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald on Hughes, Bratt, Culture Change, & Goaltending00:58:57

It’s Halloween night and we dropped a spooky edition of The DFO Rundown to celebrate the occasion. The Toronto Maple Leafs have certainly spooked their fan base with their play early in the season and now, Sheldon Keefe might be losing some sleep as the team wraps up their western road trip. For Bruins fans, this start to the season has definitely been a huge treat. The team is rolling and David Pastrnak is shooting the lights out, which led Jason and Frank to talk about what his next contract could look like.

Tyler Yaremchuk then stopped by for a special Halloween edition of Buy or Sell delivered by our friends at DoorDash. He asked the guys about the Jets, Golden Knights, and also Erik Karlsson’s resurgence and if that could lead to the Sharks defenseman having trade value around the league.

They then got to their big guest of the week: New Jersey Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald. The team's had a quick turnaround after a few tough games to start the season and Fitzgerald talked about the culture change that the team has gone through over the last few years. He also hit on the current goaltending tandem and the emergence of the team's young core. Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt are leading the way and are giving the fan base reason to believe that the Devils can compete for years to come.

An all news episode of The DFO Rundown is here to get your through your Monday afternoon. Frank and Jason kicked off the show with an in-depth conversation about the Boston Bruins signing and subsequent release of Mitchell Miller. What were the Boston Bruins thinking? Why did the NHL approve the contract? Was Don Sweeney pushed into this move? The two tried their best to answer all of those questions.

After that, they went around the league and checked in on a bunch of different teams. The Devils are still red hot and rolled through western Canada. The Kraken keep surprising us as well. Are they a legit playoff contender or is this just a team on a hot streak? 11 Nov 2022Surprising division winners, surprising playoff teams, and McDavid's wild run00:45:07

The regular season is almost a month old and both the Arizona Coyotes and Chicago Blackhawks are tied for a playoff spot. It’s safe to say that the start of the season has not exactly gone the way most of us expected. The teams on hot streaks, like the Devils, Bruins, Jets, and Golden Knights, have kept them rolling for a long time. On the other hand, the teams on cold streaks, the Blues, Penguins, and Flames, have really struggled to snap out of them.

Frank and Jason took a trip around the league and answered a bunch of big questions. Who’s the most surprising division leader right now? Which division is most likely to produce the Stanley Cup Champion? Can the Kraken miss the playoffs? Will there be any big playoff races? Or could this season be just as boring as last year? How many goals will McDavid finish with? They got to all of that and they had Tyler Yaremchuk pop in for a new edition of Buy or Sell delivered by Doordash.

14 Nov 2022Devan Dubnyk on his career and retirement. PLUS: Our thoughts on Hall of Fame weekend.01:06:38

It’s Hall of Fame weekend in the world of hockey and that is where Jason and Frank started today on The DFO Rundown. The love shown to Bjore Salming over the weekend was incredible and the Leaf's tribute to their legend was the biggest story of the weekend. From there, they discussed this year's HHOF class which includes three Swedish players. It’s an interesting class as none of the NHLers inducted have won a Stanley Cup and that led to a debate about players who still aren’t in the Hall yet.

They then shifted their focus to the action on the ice over the weekend. The Devils can’t stop winning and the Canucks struggles continued. Will changes come in Vancouver? Frank seems to think so.

Former NHL goaltender Devan Dubnyk then joined the show. He talked about his long career as both a starter and a backup. His 12-year run in the NHL had a lot of ups and downs and he spoke about his mentality through it all. He also shared his plans for retirement and they had some fun in Rapid Fire.

18 Nov 2022It's been a streaky season!00:56:52

Today to start the podcast, the guys got a little personal. Frank is struggling with what to get his wife for Christmas, especially considering what she’s asked for. He also has a problem with the youth hockey team he runs.

After that, they dug into the New Jersey Devils' winning streak. It’s now up to 11 games. For a team that most expected to be a fringe playoff contender, it’s been wild to watch them emerge as one of the best teams in the NHL. It’s been a season full of streaks. The Bruins have been dominant on home ice, teams like the Blues and Sabres have seen each side of things, and the Penguins have struggled to get going. Are they the team that should be the most concerned? Frank thinks so.

They also brought in Tyler Yaremchuk for a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked them about Jakob Chychrun, the St. Louis Blues, and the Ottawa Senators. They also discussed Stanley Cup odds courtesy of Pointsbet Canada

Jason Gregor and Frank Seravalli are back with another episode of The DFO Rundown. To kick things off, they talked about children's sports/activities and which ones drive parents the craziest. From there, they moved onto something that’s driving Leaf’s fans crazy: Auston Matthews' goal total. The Leaf's superstar is on pace for undergo 40 goals right now and only has two even-strength markers through 19 games. Is this concerning? Or will AM34 heat up?

Their big guest today was Chris Therien, the Philadelphia Flyers' all-time leader is games played. He talked about his battle with alcoholism and the book he wrote about both his struggles and triumphs. He also spoke about his career during Rapid Fire.

28 Nov 2022Sara Orlesky on what's propelled the Jets to first in the Central00:58:10

After taking the back half of last week off for American Thanksgiving, Jason and Frank returned today with a new episode of the podcast. Off the jump, they talked about their weekends which featured Frank’s run in with an interesting uncle and Gregor had some takes on the World Cup.

They eventually did get into the hockey side of things and started by talking about the surprising number of comebacks we’ve seen over the last couple of days in the NHL. From there, they talked about Matt Murray’s strong play between the pipes for the Maple Leafs, the Kraken and their strong play through the month of November, and the Rangers struggles. Tyler Yaremchuk also had a couple of awards questions in a new  edition of Buy or Sell delivered by DoorDash and Pointsbet Canada.

It’s December and that means the holidays are just around the corner. Jason started the show with a rant about how some parents handled a certain Christmas-time tradition for their kids.

They did eventually get into some big stories from around the league starting in the Pacific Division where seemingly ever team with the exception of Vegas is having a bit of a goaltending problem. Cal Petersen has already been sent to the AHL, should the Oilers follow go down that path to try and fix Jack Campbell? Jacob Markstrom has been wildly inconsistent for the Flames as well and the Canucks could be without Thatcher Demko for a while. There are a lot of teams out West with goaltending problems. Frank and Jason gave some insight into that.

From there they got into the Alex Formenton discussion. Why did he stay unsigned? Frank provided some context on that and talked about where he could go now since he’s ineligible for the remainder of the 2022-23 NHL season.

Tyler Yaremchuk also popped in for a new edition of Buy or Sell delivered by DoorDash and Pointsbet Canada.

What a wild weekend it was in the NHL. The theme of the season has been streaks. From teams being on wild heaters, to long losing skids, to remarkable point streaks from a couple of the games stars. There have been some amazing runs this season.

Frank and Jason started the podcast by talking about one team that has really struggled this season: the Washington Capitals. What could it look like if they become sellers? From there they talked about Tage Thompson’s hot streak, teams tanking and Tyler Yaremchuk stopped by for Buy or Sell delivered by DoorDash. He asked the guys about Brock Boeser, Robertson/Marner point streaks, and the Boston Bruins.

They then welcomed in Aaron Portzline, who covers the Columbus Blue Jackets for The Athletic. Aaron has seen it all in Columbus as someone who has covered the team since they started in the NHL. This was a big week for Jason Gregor. As the President (unofficially) of The Tage Thompson Fan Club, Gregor has been really enjoying the wild run that he’s been on and his second six-point performance of the season was an absolute masterpiece. Could this season be the best non-entry-level contract bargain in the salary cap era? He and Jason discussed that.

From there, they went around the Western Conference. They started with the Blues, who may be forced to make a tough decision regarding Ryan O’Reilly. They then went to the Colorado Avalanche, who could be in the market for a big-name forward. They then hit on the Vancouver Canucks, who are stuck in ‘NHL purgatory’ as Gregor put it.

To wrap things up, they brought in Tyler Yaremchuk for what some are describing as the most entertaining edition of Fill in the Blank we’ve ever had.

Few NHLers know Alex Ovechkin better than Brooks Laich. In fact, only two players have spent more time on the same team as Alex Ovechkin during his career (Niklas Backstrom and John Carlson). So who better to join the pod to discuss ‘The Great 8’s’ milestone week than a guy who was there for a good portion of his 800 goals. What’s Ovechkin like in the room? What were Laich’s first impressions of a young Ovi? He answered all those questions and took us through what he’s been up to since his playing career ended. His business has taken him to almost every continent in the world and he had some fascinating stories.

Tyler Yaremchuk also hopped in for his weekly segment and asked the guys about Logan Thompson’s Calder Trophy case, the Metro division, and John Tortorella’s decision to bench the Flyer's leading scorer, Kevin Hayes, even though the team is averaging under 2.5 goals per game.
