23 Jun 2020 | What Does It Mean to “Abide”? | 00:43:52
Abide. We use it as our “word of the year”. We see it on coffee mugs, necklaces and baseball caps. But what does abiding really mean? How do we abide? What does it look like to abide in the Lord in this day and age? We are joined by Kristin Schmucker, and she helps us see how abiding is simply being a disciple. It’s not about trying harder out of our own strength, but trusting in the person and work of Christ. It’s an overflow of our position in Christ as His beloved. It’s a means to true rest.

26 Feb 2019 | The Story of Scripture | 01:02:57
The Bible is actually one story - from Genesis to Revelation, there is a unified narrative that all points to Jesus. This is easily seen through four plot movements: creation, fall, redemption, restoration/consummation. You may have heard this referred to as the “metanarrative” of Scripture. Understanding this will change the way you approach the Word of God and enrich your study. You’ll even be engaging in biblical theology, which is a type of theology that focuses on how the revelation of Christ unfolds in time. And we’ll also talk about how knowing this grand narrative impacts our own stories. This unified narrative can help us in our trials - if we’re going through hardship, we can reflect back on the Fall and how God promised a Redeemer, and He came! And He promises to come back again and make all things new. What a gift it is that we are a part of His story. May our hearts be in awe of our great God and His story of redemption.

03 Mar 2020 | The Beauty of Daily Dependence | 00:50:15
Our culture values independence and strength. We also find ourselves living out of our own strength so often. We know we should “depend on God”, but what does that look like practically? We have to remember that God is self-sufficient. He is dependent on nothing and no one. And truly, this is good news for us! In fact, He created us to be dependent on Him. There is beauty in daily dependence on God and His church!

21 Apr 2020 | The Beauty of Racial and Cultural Diversity in the Church with Aubrey Coleman | 00:36:59
Diversity is a beautiful idea from God. His image bearers are marked with racial and cultural differences. But the gospel is for people of every tribe, nation, and tongue, and we can get a taste of heaven when there is true unity amongst diversity within the body of Christ. But there are natural challenges we face! We are joined by Aubrey Coleman, and she offers great encouragement and practical suggestions on how we can pursue unity specifically regarding racial and cultural differences.

08 Dec 2020 | “Joy to the World” and the Hope of Christ with Sandra McCracken | 00:32:55
Jesus is the Savior of the world. Does that truth cause you to sing for joy? It is a simple but profound gospel truth that has widespread implications. We are joined by singer-songwriter, Sandra McCracken, and she explores the popular holiday song, “Joy to the World” with us. This is a song that has crossed the secular divide, but it is a song that points to the hope of Christ. The lyrics hold Advent themes as they call us to look back and remember what Christ has done and also look forward to what’s sure to come.

06 Apr 2021 | The Pathway from Heartbreak to Hope with Mark Vroegop | 00:40:25
Heartbreak, deep pain, suffering. We’ve all grieved the brokenness of this world. Yet, some of us wish we knew how to grieve effectively and with hope. As believers, we know we are not exempt from suffering and grief, but if we’re honest, sometimes we have a hard time reconciling our pain and the goodness and sovereignty of God. Can we grieve and trust God? Can we struggle and believe? Can we mourn and rejoice? Yes, we can, and it’s through the practice of lament!

08 Jun 2021 | Life-Giving Practices for Spiritual Growth | 00:45:52
Spiritual disciplines: life-giving or life-sucking? Many of us have feelings of dread when we think about spiritual disciplines. We think about all the things we “have to” or “should do” as believers and then think about all the ways we fail to do those things. We know they’re good for us, but they feel too hard! Our understanding and approach to spiritual disciplines matters a lot. They should be life-giving practices that lead to spiritual growth, true joy, and deepened intimacy with Christ.

11 Feb 2020 | Hope in Suffering with Katherine and Jay Wolf | 00:54:28
A massive stroke at 26-years old. Their world turned upside down. One minute they thought they were headed toward a certain future: Jay would graduate law school in 3-weeks, and Katherine would continue her pursuit of acting/modeling while caring for their 6-month old son. The next minute, Katherine is in a risky surgery that required the removal of half of her cerebellum. Though their story is one of overwhelming loss, it’s also one of overwhelming love. It’s a story where the living hope of Christ anchors and heals. It’s a story of redemption.

14 Apr 2020 | Pursuing Biblical Friendships that Thrive | 00:53:05
Deep, meaningful friendships. We all want them! God actually designed us to live and grow in relationship to Him and each other. The Bible offers a vision of friendship that goes beyond doing things 50/50. It goes beyond affirming, venting, and commiserating. Christian friendship is an eternal bond offered by the blood of Christ. We serve each other sacrificially, help each other grow in holiness, etc. But how do we cultivate these friendships? Where do we start? Tune in!

05 Oct 2021 | Should We Forgive and Forget? | 00:59:38
We’ve all heard the phrase “forgive and forget”. It’s a nice principle, right? When we wrong someone and seek forgiveness, we would also really like it if that person completely forgot about the offense. But when we turn the situation around, we’re not so sure. Especially if it’s a deep wound and we feel all the things, extending forgiveness is hard. Forgetting the offense entirely seems to be near impossible. So in this episode, we explore this idea of forgiving and forgetting. In the Bible, we read verses that say God will be merciful and “remember their sins no more”. What do we make of this, especially since we also know that God knows all things?
We talked about why we should forgive in a previous episode, but today, we want to explore this idea of forgiving and forgetting. We talk about if it’s even possible to truly forgive and forget. And is it wise to forgive and forget? Is this something Scripture calls us to? Does God actually forget when He forgives? That’s the bottomline: we want to forgive as Jesus forgives. He is our model!

09 Aug 2022 | Overcoming People Pleasing | 00:27:55
Sometimes caring for others can become a crisis in our lives. We can become so consumed with pleasing the people around us that our main function in life becomes to meet the needs and expectations of others. And while this initially seems like a selfless way to live, it is actually often a self-centered way to live. We crave the approval and acceptance of others so much that we will sacrifice anything and everything to get it. People pleasing can easily become an idol. So, how do we recognize when serving others has become our god? And how can we recenter our lives on God instead of the opinions of others? Come chat with us as we discuss how Scripture and ultimately the gospel helps us overcome fear of man and people pleasing.

Chances are that unless disability is a part of your daily life, you haven’t thought much about how to grow in understanding towards people with disabilities. And it is for that reason that we welcome Laura Wifler onto the Daily Grace Podcast today to talk about this topic. Laura is the mother of five year old Eden who was diagnosed with developmental disabilities at a very young age. Laura candidly shares the fears and joys her family has experienced since Eden’s diagnosis. She encourages us to see people with disabilities as people who are “like me” because they are made in the image of God. She gives practical tips for loving people in our spheres who have disabilities and tips for walking alongside parents of children with disabilities. Above all, Laura reminds us that the value of a person is not dependent on their abilities. All people are worthy of dignity and love.

08 Oct 2019 | Celebrating Others in a Culture of Competition | 00:52:57
Comparison is a norm in our culture so competition is inevitable. Be better; have more; outshine. This mindset can be seen in all areas of life: from the work force to motherhood to ministry. But God’s people should be people who celebrate others well. We are recipients of God’s never ending grace, mercy, and love, and we can live out of this abundance. But it’s hard! 18 Jun 2019 | The Local Church | 01:11:44
“Get plugged into a local church!” Why do we encourage this? What exactly is a local church and what’s its purpose? The church is not a building; it isn’t even an organization instituted by man. The local church is an assembly of believers, and it exists for God and His glory -- that is its overall purpose. In light of this purpose, we discuss corporate worship and prayer, church membership, submission to authority, discipleship and evangelism, and more. The local church can reflect the unity in diversity seen in the Trinity and put the gospel on display!

07 Sep 2021 | Infertility and the Hope of the Gospel with Glenna Marshall | 00:49:41
Infertility is so hard. It’s a tender topic marked by deep pain and sorrow. It can be confusing because what is being withheld is good; children are a gift from God! Statistics tell us that so many people suffer from infertility, and we may ask ourselves, “Why?” How can we understand why some people suffer from infertility from a theological perspective? How can the Lord comfort us in this deep pain? And how can we grieve with hope over unfulfilled desires?
Today, we are joined by Glenna Marshall. Glenna understands this topic because it’s part of her story. We are so grateful for her willingness to share her story and how she found hope in the gospel in her suffering. Glenna actually wrote a lot about this in her book, The Promise is His Presence. She also authored the book, Everyday Faithfulness. Be sure to follow her on Instagram @glennadmarshall!

05 Mar 2019 | Opening Your Heart & Home | 01:11:51
Hospitality should characterize God’s people. On this episode of Daily Grace, we discuss how the Bible defines hospitality and what role it should play in the believer's life. Biblical hospitality is vastly different than what our culture promotes as hospitality, and we’ll compare and contrast the two. We’ll also talk in depth about how hospitality should be an integral part of our lives as believers. But if you’re anything like us, this may be an area that could use growth. Sometimes, it’s hard to know where to even start! No matter what season of life you’re in though, having a hospitable heart and extending hospitality to others are absolutely vital. And this is why it matters - hospitality is a tangible way to show the gospel to our neighbors. We have been welcomed, cared for, and loved by Christ, so we strive to welcome, care for, and love others. It is an expression of our reverence for God.
If you’re struggling in this area and would like a fresh perspective on hospitality that’s rooted in the Word of God, this conversation is for you. We even offer a few practical tips on how to get started and share some go-to recipes to feed the masses!
Resources mentioned in this episode: The Gospel Comes with a House Key by Rosaria Butterfield Ep. 75 | On the Art of Asking Intentional Questions - the Journeywomen Podcast
Go-to Menu Ideas to Feed the Masses: Spaghetti and Salad (try this Instant Pot recipe) *Dice an onion and add it to your ground beef. You may have to adjust the water amount - if it seems runny at first, let it sit for 10 minutes then re-evaluate. It usually turns out great! Grilled Chicken (with Soyaki marinade) with Spinach Orzo Salad and Grilled Corn on the Cob *A small portion of the marinade goes a long way! One bottle will last you multiple meals! Let it marinade for a couple of hours for optimal taste. I also like to use chicken thighs with this particular marinade. Homemade Cookie Dough (freeze it in batches for easy access on multiple occasions!) *Freeze them in batches for easy access on multiple occasions - just make sure you form them into balls and freeze them on a cookie sheet before tossing them into ziploc bags! *My friend Alyssa also suggests trying these substitutes: use Kerrygold Pure Irish butter at room temperature and swap out milk chocolate for dark chocolate! Lentil Soup with warm bread *You can easily adapt this recipe to the Instant Pot - use the sauté function to sauté the veggies as directed then add the remaining ingredients and cook on high pressure for 12 minutes, then quick release. *If you don’t want to make homemade bread, buy a loaf from the store, wrap it up in aluminum foil, and warm it up in the oven! Meat Lasagna or Vegetarian Lasagna *For the vegetarian lasagna - leave out mushrooms if you’re not a fan and add in whatever vegetable you’d like (zucchini, etc.) Taco Bar (Shredded Taco Chicken) *This recipe is for a slow cooker, but you can easily adapt it for the Instant Pot. You can cook it at high pressure for 8 minutes, let it naturally release for 5 minutes, and then flip the release valve. You can also easily shred the chicken using a Kitchenaid or hand mixer! *The options for taco bars are endless - keep your topping selection simple if you don’t have the margin to get creative!

28 May 2024 | You Are Not Forgotten w/Christine Hoover | 00:40:06
Do you ever experience the pain and anger of feeling overlooked? Oftentimes, when we are in this place, we turn toward God with soul-wrenching questions: “Where are you, God? Have you forgotten me? Are you paying attention to what is happening to me? Can I trust that you will act on my behalf?”
In this episode, Shelby and Krystal chat with Christine Hoover, author of “You Are Not Forgotten: Discovering the God Who Sees the Overlooked and Disregarded.” Christine shares how the Lord met her as she asked those questions and reminded her that He sees and hears her—even when it doesn’t feel like it. Though we are tempted to find other ways to be seen, we hope this conversation encourages you to find your refuge in The God Who Sees.

19 Jan 2021 | Your Social Media Habits and Your Heart | 00:51:51
Your social media habits say a lot about you. The truth is, our habits reveal our hearts: our desires, fears, hopes, idols, and more. It’s the appetites of our hearts that drive what we consume and produce online. Our hearts influence the time we spend, how we engage, who we follow, and more. The answer isn’t to abandon social media altogether. We can have healthy habits and steward our platforms for God’s glory! But it will take heart work and some practical application!

01 Oct 2019 | When You Don’t Measure Up | 00:49:57
You are not enough. How do you deal with those thoughts and feelings of inadequacy? Are you always striving for perfection? Regardless of personality type, this is something we all deal with in some capacity. The only standard of measurement that matters is God’s standard, and on our own, we’ll never measure up. But Jesus. He is the only answer to our feelings of falling short. In Him and through Him, we are enough. The gospel offers us a better way, and it changes everything.

17 Dec 2019 | Setting Bible Study Goals | 00:58:28
Personal goals related to Bible intake: is it necessary to have a structured plan? Is that being legalistic? What if life is too busy for inductive studies? What if you’ve tried a reading plan in the past and always get off track? Should you try again? It is possible to have specific Bible study goals that you can implement, whatever your life season. The Word is nourishment to our souls, and the ultimate aim of Bible study is to know God and be transformed into His likeness.

01 Feb 2022 | Is Forgiveness Really Necessary? | 00:35:31
Forgiveness. It can be a really difficult topic for a lot of us. Maybe you have been severely hurt by someone in your life and you just can’t seem to move past it. Maybe you know you should forgive, but you just don’t know how. Or maybe you desire reconciliation and know that it isn’t an option, so you just avoid forgiveness all together. Whatever the case may be, you are not alone. Forgiveness is spoken about over and over again in scripture, and for good reason. Forgiveness makes us more like Jesus. Forgiveness is a picture of Jesus to others. But, that certainly doesn’t mean that it is easy. If you are struggling with forgiveness or holding a grudge, and you want to know what God has to say about whether or not forgiveness is really necessary, this conversation is for you.

In this episode, Krystal and Shelby chat with author Amy DiMarcangelo about holy discontentment and how the craving we all feel for more is a God-given desire. Amy specifically encourages those who are in seasons of life that feel easy to continue to seek the Lord rather than become complacent and comfortable. 29 Sep 2020 | Learning the Voice of God | 00:49:57
Can we hear God’s voice today? Yes, we can! It may not be an audible voice from a burning bush, but believers can absolutely know the voice of God. This is because God primarily speaks through Scripture. As we study the Bible, we familiarize ourselves with the tone of His voice. In a world full of voices, we need to do something to ensure that God’s voice is loudest and clearest. We talk about how we can do that practically, and how we can allow God’s voice to be a guiding voice in our everyday lives.

14 Nov 2023 | When You Feel Misunderstood | 00:23:01
Have you ever felt misunderstood? There can be something so frustrating when you do not feel heard or understood. In today’s conversation, Shelby and Krystal discuss when we as women are most tempted to feel misunderstood as well as the responses that often come out of feeling that way. We can sometimes dismiss the “respectable” sins such as pride but Scripture is clear to point us toward away from pride and toward a humble posture. By walking in humility, we seek to honor the Lord and others in the way we process and respond to situations where we feel misunderstood. 28 May 2019 | Help Me Understand the Trinity! | 00:46:47
What is the trinity? How can one God exists as three persons? The doctrine of the Trinity is a fundamental doctrine and foundational for the Christian faith, but we in our finite minds cannot fully comprehend it. However, this does not mean that we should not seek to know Him at all. In this conversation, we discuss some parameters that will help us understand the trinity. We talk about how our God is one essence and three persons. We talk about how each person of the trinity is fully God and exists simultaneously. We also dive into how the trinity actually models how we should live today as believers in a local church. Perfect unity and diversity exist in the Godhead, and all of this compels our hearts to delight in Him. We believe it’s important for all believers to have a proper understanding of the trinity, and we pray this conversation helps!

31 Aug 2021 | What Does it Mean to Fear the Lord? | 00:50:37
All throughout the Old Testament and New Testament, we read that God’s people should “fear the Lord”. We also are told in many verses to “fear not” or “do not fear”. Fear is a hard emotion for us to understand as it is; the differences in these verses can make it extra confusing! But because the fear of the Lord is a topic woven throughout all of Scripture, we know it’s important. So we have to ask: what is the fear of the Lord? How does it impact our real, everyday lives? And if it’s a good thing, how do we grow in our fear of the Lord?
Many conversations on this topic simplify the fear of the Lord to awe and reverence, and that’s not wrong. But this is such a tremendous calling for believers that it’s worth digging deeper. Come join our conversation!

27 Jun 2023 | Mistakes We’ve Made in Bible Study: Reading with our Heart and Not Our Head | 00:14:45
This is the second episode in our Mistakes We've Made in Bible Study series and we're talking about the mistake of reading with our heart and not our head. What do we mean by reading with our heart and not our head? We mean that we decide what Scripture means by feeling only and not by fact. While our hearts should absolutely be engaged in Bible reading, when we read with only our hearts and not our heads, we run the risk of an incomplete or incorrect interpretation. And that can lead us to misunderstand who God is and how He relates to His people. So… learn from our mistake! Come listen to this episode and let us teach you how we’ve learned to read with both our heart and our head. 30 Apr 2019 | Self-Care & The Gospel | 01:01:23
Self-care is a trendy topic. If self-care is just taking intentional steps to cultivate your physical, mental, and emotional health, what’s wrong with it? This topic isn’t so black and white. God created us as finite beings, and the limits that He has ordained are for our good. Rest is a gift! However, true rest according to God’s Word is not the same as what our culture promotes under the label of “self-care”. We’ll talk about what it means to have a healthy, biblical view of self-care, and we’ll even offer practical tips to engage in true rest that will refresh your soul in the Lord. DISCLAIMER: In this episode, we mention the term “mental health.” This term has a broad range of usage, and we are not using it to refer to mental health in any clinical sense. This podcast episode is not intended to treat or diagnose any mental health conditions. If you have a clinical mental health condition, or think you might, we encourage you to see a licensed mental health professional and connect with your local pastor. 10 Nov 2020 | Fighting Our Fears with Kristen Wetherell | 00:48:50
Many of our fears are heightened right now. Some of us fight our fears by trying to will them away. We remember verses like “do not be afraid” and “do not be anxious” and think our fears reveal a weak faith, which makes us feel like not-good-enough Christians. Today, we’re joined by Kristen Wetherell, and she reminds us that we don’t have to fight our fears that way. Instead, we are invited to trust God and believe that He is for us. Kristen walks us through how we can fight our fears in a healthy, practical way.

18 May 2021 | Beauty, Body Image, and Fighting Insecurity with Bethany Beal | 00:46:34
Physical beauty is something that we think about. For some of us, it takes up more mental real estate than we’d like to admit. In fact, it’s a point of insecurity for us. We’re bombarded with different definitions of beauty; so much so that it can be exhausting! What is truly beautiful? Can the Bible actually help us have a healthy outlook on physical beauty? Can this not be a point of insecurity for us as Chrisitan women? Bethany Beal from Girl Defined Ministries helps us work through this.

07 Jul 2020 | Walking with Others Through Suffering and Grief | 00:50:31
Someone you know is grieving or suffering. This is true for all of us. And the thing is, we want to be people who love and encourage others well in all seasons of life, even the hard ones. But we wonder: “What if we say the wrong thing? What if we make them even sadder? What if it’s really awkward? Could we really offer any sort of comfort?” In this episode, we get really practical about things we can say and things we can do when we’re walking with others through their grief and suffering.

When life gets hard, what is your hope? What helps you weather the storms of life? As believers, we will experience suffering and hardships on this side of eternity. We have to ask: what helps us persevere and not lose hope? The key is to set our eyes, hearts, and minds on eternity. This is really important, but even as believers, we may not know the why and how. In this episode, we talk about what setting our eyes on eternity means, and how we can practically do it in our everyday lives.

22 Sep 2020 | God’s Design for Sex | 00:42:52
Sex is everywhere. Movies, TV shows, music, books, advertisements, and even children’s resources! Our culture says sex is one’s right to enjoy whenever, however, and with whomever one pleases. Many think the Christian view of sex is oppressive or repressive. Some Christians think sex is dirty and a necessary evil for procreation. But what does the Bible say? What is God’s design for sex? What sexual ethic does Scripture promote? We need to go to God’s Word to have a healthy vision for sex!

Life can feel out of control sometimes, and in response, we can find ourselves trying to control whatever we can. We feel a need to be in control! But is that even possible? We can plan out our days down to the hour, but there are a million things that can happen to completely uproot us. In essence, the world is out of our control! But one thing is sure: it is not out of God’s control. He is sovereign, and resting in this attribute of God frees us from our search for control.

22 Oct 2019 | Setting Goals that Matter with Lara Casey | 00:48:12
Should Christians set goals? Aren’t goals self-centered? Doesn’t the Bible talk about not knowing what tomorrow brings? Should we be so future-oriented? Lara has redefined goals. Goals can be God-centered and informed by the gospel. Goals can help us keep the big picture of eternity in mind. Goals can help us number our days and live intentionally today. But how do we stay motivated and persevere? How do we make what really matters actually happen?

04 Aug 2020 | When Our Sins are Exposed | 00:46:51
Exposure of our personal sins is humbling, hard, and sometimes painful. Often, we find that we try to cover up our sins or ignore them! Or maybe we’re just not aware of some sins lingering in our hearts! We can tend to deny or undermine our sins because we don’t want to feel shame or judgment. But in Christ, we believe that it’s a mercy for our sins to be exposed! It’s an invitation to turn our eyes to the cross, practice repentance, and be purified. This is a vital part of growing in godliness!

09 Feb 2021 | How to View and Respond to Failure | 00:50:48
Missing the mark. Not measuring up. Failing. The question is: what standard are we using? What set of expectations do we feel like we’re failing to meet? And what do we do with our feelings of failure? There are three different categories of standards we should all consider: God’s, ours, and the world’s. Having a proper understanding of these standards can help us better define failure. And as believers, we have the truths of the gospel to help us navigate all of our perceived failures!

17 Nov 2020 | Thinking Deeply, Forming Convictions, and Loving Our Neighbors | 01:01:44
“Christians are closed-minded. They lack logic and reason.” Ever heard this? The truth is, believers can and should be deep thinkers. If we’re in Christ, we are redeemed: body, MIND, and soul! Faith and intellectual integrity go hand-in-hand! We should engage our minds and think deeply about Scripture, our beliefs, and our convictions. We should think deeply about the grey areas of life! We believe this helps us love God and love our neighbors better! But it takes humility, effort, and the help of the Spirit.

14 Dec 2021 | Suffering in the Hand of God with Vaneetha Risner | 00:42:23
Polio and its lingering effects. Loss of a child due to a doctor’s mistake. Infidelity and a broken marriage. Post-Polio Syndrome. These are all hard things for any one person to bear. It’s no wonder Vaneetha Risner titled her memoir “Walking Through Fire” and identifies as a sufferer. Yet, it’s in and through her suffering where she testifies to the goodness and nearness of God. In this conversation, she reminds us that, as believers, we’re not guaranteed an easy life. We’re not promised a life void of suffering. But in Christ, we also know that we’re not alone in our suffering. God remains unchanging; He is good and near and compassionate. We can find comfort and rest in the character of God as we experience our own suffering. By His grace, joy and suffering can coexist in the Christian life. Take heart! Here are some questions that Vaneetha answers in this interview:

Marriage and sexuality are hot button topics in today’s society. How do we navigate a faithful, biblical ethic when it comes to these areas? And for those of us who are parents, how do we teach these truths to our children?
Sam Allberry joined us for this important conversation to help us better understand God’s design for marriage. Sam is a pastor and the author of Is God Anti-Gay?; What God Has to Say About Our Bodies; and the children’s book God’s Signpost: How Marriage Points Us to God’s Love. 14 Jul 2020 | Overcoming Negative Body Image | 00:48:27
Many of us silently wrestle with negative body image issues. We feel pride or shame in how we look or don’t look. While it’s true that God looks at our hearts and cares for the eternal well-being of our souls, He also made us as whole persons with physical bodies. What God said is “good” became distorted with sin. But the gospel offers us true freedom even here. Jesus can overcome the heart issues related to body image. We can find our worth, not in our outward appearances, but in our union with Christ!

06 Jul 2021 | You’re in a Battle: Engaging in Spiritual Warfare | 00:48:38
What comes to mind when you hear “spiritual warfare”? Are you apathetic? Are you consumed by it? Are you confused? As believers, we need to have a biblical approach to this very real spiritual war that we’re all facing. We need to go to God’s Word to see what it tells us about Satan and his demons and how they work in our world. Scripture calls us to be prepared to engage in battle, and we need to know how we can practically do this in our day to day lives.

12 May 2020 | How to Prevent Burnout as a Believer | 00:51:10
On today’s episode, we talk about burnout. This is something that many of us have faced, are facing, or dread we will face in the future. Burnout is a state of chronic stress. It can be described as feeling exhausted, stressed, overwhelmed, spent, and just plain done. It can come up in many different ways and in many different contexts, and it’s something any personality type can experience. But here’s the thing: our theology has direct implications to how we navigate this issue of burnout. In this episode, we explore what Scripture says about who God is and who we are in light of Him, and we discuss how those truths impact how we live. Believers don’t have to live in a state of burnout! We can go to God’s Word and see how He has designed His people to live on this side of glory. The Bible helps us live this Christian life by helping us establish a good pace; offering true nourishment; building endurance; and leading to true rest. We can prevent burnout and finish our race well. Come join our conversation!

12 Oct 2021 | The Women in Jesus’ Family and the Heart of God | 00:59:55
Raise your hand if you skip genealogies in your Bible reading! We get it. These hard-to-pronounce names are just hard. We are tempted to skim past them. We know they’re important because God, in His infinite wisdom, included them, but we’re not sure why. To put it simply, genealogies trace God’s faithfulness and promises throughout history. Each name tells us something about God! And if we look closely, we’ll see that a few women are included, too.
In today’s episode, we dive into the story of each of these women. These stories teach us a lot about God, but we pull 5 truths about God beautifully shown in and through these women’s stories. These can seem like simple truths that we know, but when we see them played out in these women’s lives, they sink in. They stir our affections for our great God!
This year, the Advent study from The Daily Grace Co. is called Waiting for a Savior. As we follow the Advent calendar, we trace the lineage of Jesus throughout Scripture. We see that God’s plan of redemption came through a long line of imperfect, sinful people, to bring forth a perfect, sinless Savior. Jesus’ family tree points us to the hope of our salvation that every kind of person with every kind of story is invited to belong.

What are the two topics you aren’t supposed to discuss at family gatherings? Most of us would immediately guess religion and politics, and some of us may intentionally stay away from these topics in public. But what if we could step into the political sphere in a way that honors God? In this episode, Dr. Patrick Schreiner makes a compelling case for why we should consider engaging in politics as believers. 01 Mar 2022 | I’ve Been Hurt By My Church. Now What? Part 2 | 00:44:59
God’s design for the church is good. The church is meant to be a place of refuge and worship. It is meant to be a place where believers can meet together and worship God and live in community with one another. But, because of sin, the church doesn’t always live according to its good design. Church hurt is real, and it is painful. But thankfully, the grace of God is able to heal that hurt and allow us to move forward. In this two part series, we talk about what church hurt is, how to handle it, what God says about it, and how to move forward onto the path of healing.
Maybe you have been hurt by your church as a whole, or maybe an individual in your church. Maybe you have been hurt by church leadership. Or maybe you are someone who has hurt someone else within your church. Regardless of the circumstance, this conversation is for you.

19 May 2020 | Walking Through Seasons of Spiritual Dryness | 00:51:40
On today’s episode, we talk about the times in our spiritual lives where we feel like we’re in a drought. Maybe God’s presence feels withdrawn. Maybe we don’t find delight in reading and studying His Word. Maybe we don’t feel passionate about God and the things of God like we once did. We may wonder: why do we experience these times of spiritual dryness? Is it an indicator of a lack of faith or is it something all believers go through at some point on their faith journeys? Today, we talk all about spiritual dryness. We discuss the various reasons we can experience these seasons, and how we can faithfully walk through them.

15 Feb 2022 | How Can We Practically Love Our Enemies | 00:44:44
The world is full of division. Politics, faith, current events, and even everyday disagreements with our family and friends divide us from one another. This division often leads to viewing those who oppose us as our enemies. We might even be tempted to think and act in a harsh and hateful way towards them. It could even be that their actions are so hurtful that our hatred feels justified. But, Jesus has commanded us to love our enemies. We are to love them generously, graciously, and abundantly. Because when we do this we are reflecting the wildly generous and gracious love God has given to us through Jesus. But what does loving our enemies really look like? How can we love our enemies on social media? What about the ones in our family? And the ones who have hurt us deeply? We are going to talk about all of this and more today. Come join our conversation on how to practically love our enemies.

28 Jan 2020 | The Truth about Gossip | 00:51:38
Gossip. We’ve all experienced it; we can all agree that it’s unkind. But do we really understand the ramifications of gossip? Gossiping is saying what you don’t need to say, whether or not it’s true. It is always harmful and never helpful. It is unloving. And the most important truth about gossip is this: gossip is sin. Yet, we justify gossip for many reasons. Maybe we call it “seeking counsel” or “asking for prayer”. Is it even possible to not gossip?

16 Feb 2021 | Fasting and Feasting | 00:49:54
Lent begins tomorrow. You don’t have to observe Lent, but it can be helpful to prepare your heart for Easter. One thing people often associate with Lent is fasting. Fasting is not unique to Christianity. However, there are spiritual purposes behind fasting that make it a worthwhile discipline for every believer. In Scripture, we see that fasting is often associated with feasting. It’s not just about abstaining from something! It’s saying “no” to something in order to say “yes” to more of God!

14 Sep 2021 | True Kindness: Beyond Being Nice | 00:47:04
Kindness is one of the fruits of the Spirit, but it’s not talked about as much as some of the others. Is it because it’s just so simple? Are Christians just supposed to be nice to others, and that’s the extent of this fruit? Or is there more to biblical kindness? Today, we explore what it means for believers to show kindness to others. We talk about what biblical kindness can look like, and how we can actually do it. Remember, it’s a fruit of the SPIRIT. This means that we cannot truly bear this fruit apart from the work of the Spirit in our lives! This means that being kind is so much more than being nice. It’s not less than that, but it’s so much more!

17 Oct 2023 | Making Time for Bible Study When You Have No Time | 00:22:09
There’s no doubt about it—we are busy people. We live in a world that values and prioritizes hustle and busyness. Sadly, this impacts our spiritual lives as we push aside the most important thing (being with God in His Word) and trade it for the seemingly urgent things in front of us. The truth is if we have time for Netflix and Instagram, we have time to spend with Jesus. The question is—how are we prioritizing our time and our lives to ensure that we make time for what matters most? We hope this conversation reminds you that you are not alone in whatever season you are experiencing and that the God of the universe sees you in the midst of it all. It is during the busiest times that we need to cling to Him all the more. 10 Oct 2023 | Sticking with the Church in Hard and Hurtful Seasons w/Natalie Runion | 00:32:30
When it comes to the church, we often talk about the hard and holy, but do we talk about the hope and holy? Natalie Runion from Raised to Stay is on today’s podcast to talk about all of this and so much more! Natalie is a pastor’s kid who went on to serve on church staff for many years. She experienced what many of us have experienced: hurt, betrayal, pain, confusion, exhaustion. But instead of turning her back on the Church, she leaned in to see what the Lord had for her in the midst of the suffering. Natalie’s story is one of surrender and we know you will be encouraged by it.
