RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT) - The Justice Department has opened a civil pattern or practice investigation into Rankin County, Mississippi, and the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department. According to the Department of Justice, the investigation “will seek to determine whether RCSD engages in patterns or practices that violate the Constitution and federal law.” The DOJ’s investigation came about after obtaining more details and information about the conduct at the department. The investigation will evaluate all types of force used by deputies in Rankin County, including deadly force. It will also assess whether the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department engages in unlawful stops, searches, and arrests in violation of the Fourth Amendment and whether the department conducts discriminatory policing in violation of the 14th Amendment, Title VI, and the Safe Streets Act. While this is separate and independent from the prosecutions of the deputies convicted in the assault of Michael Jenkins and Eddie Parker, they want to determine if that type of behavior is instilled within the department. “Put simply, the concerns about the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department did not end with the demise of the Goon Squad. There is no question that individual officers must be held accountable when they violate the law,” U.S. Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke said. Rankin County officials have pledged their cooperation in this investigation. US. Attorney Todd Gee hopes this will turn a page for Rankin County and the entire state. “We do not have to accept the old hatreds and abuse of the past, and we do not have to accept the false claim that safety comes at the price of a illegal force and abuse of power,” Attorney Gee said. Malik Shabazz, the attorney for Jenkins and Parker, released a statement on the investigation. It states, “This is a first, critical step in cleaning up the Sheriff’s Department and holding Rankin County legally accountable for the years of constitutional violations against its citizenry. The torture and abuse of so many took place because, despite innumerable warnings, Rankin County and Sheriff Bailey belligerently refused to properly monitor and supervise this rogue and violent department. Rankin County’s liability to its citizenry is much bigger than the ‘Goon Squad’ as individuals. The next step for Rankin County is to make its victims whole, and to hopefully start a new chapter in justice.”

5. Will Dept. Of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell run for state AG in a couple of years? We have the answer!!

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - A recent study by SmileHub named Mississippi the least supportive state for people living in poverty.

It’s the poorest state but charges the most tax on food.

Mississippi taxes food at 7 percent, the highest rate in the nation. A $200 grocery bill will cost $14 extra.

It’s an issue that’s come up at the State Capitol for years. Several bills have been filed but haven’t made it across the finish line. But there seems to be some new traction on the possibility of reducing the tax.

Rep. Scott Bounds is co-chairing the House Select Committee on tax reform.

“That’s tax relief for the citizens, but we’ve got to be sure that we’re not cutting off our nose to spite our face,” said Bounds.

He says it will require a look at the tax structure because it’s a financial balancing act.

“Obviously, it would impact state revenues depending on what mechanism or what structure we use if we did a grocery tax reduction,’ added Bounds.

Speaker Jason White spoke in detail about his desire to see tax reform in 2025 shortly after the end of this year’s session.

“We’re gonna look at the way we divert to cities because the grocery tax is the number one sales tax generator for most medium and small towns,” said White. “And so you start eliminating the grocery tax, that is a large portion of the sales tax that happens inside the city limits and lots of our smaller towns and cities.”

That’s among the issues being weighed by the select committee.

“You know, we can’t just yank a revenue stream out from under them that they are beginning or have already budgeted for the next fiscal year, in their fiscal year or in the process of getting ready to budget for,” said Bounds. “So, the big thing is we’ve got to keep them whole.”

Tax reform discussions in the House are also set to include elimination of the income tax. But that’s a step the Senate counterparts have seemed less inclined to back in previous sessions.

The tax reform select committee has had an initial meeting but asked that members go back and think about ways to reform the tax structure. More meetings will be held in the next five months ahead of the session beginning in January.

Steven O'Neill and myself get to the meat and potatoes of why he's on the show today and that's to defend himself against the attacks brought forward by Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba and his media henchman Othor Cain calling him a racist and insinuating that he's in the KKK for having the audacity to question Lumumba and suggest that he is accountable for the chaos that happened at the st. paddy parade.

1- Joe Biden calls all Trump supporters garbage in what could be biggest election blunder since Hillary Clintons "basket of deporables" comment. Shaun and I discuss this from every imaginable angle.

2- We get into a pretty deep conversation about Shaun's normalcy bias and his natural disposition not to believe "conspiracy theories" which takes us down a rabbit hole about what an actual "conspiracy theory" even is and how we're all conspiracy theorist in one way or another.

3- Some GPS data has come out about who was in attendance at last nights KKKamala Harris rally in Washington D.C. at the same location of a 1924 that shows nearly 6,200 of the nearly 32,000 attendees had also attended 3 or more ANTIFA / BLM / PRO-PALESTINE protest / riots in the last 12 months. Also, nearly 18,000 of the attendees were from Atlanta and California, makes me believe these are paid attendees.

4- We get into a deep conversation about which candidate has the ability to draw people onto their side from left of and right of center based on policy. This is difficult to explain in a description but made for a great conversation.

I give my honest opinion on how I thought the city did hosting the parade, the things I saw that I liked and didn't like. I also tell the story about a guy on instagram being mad that I didn't report there were no murders in Jackson on Saturday and how ridiculous that is!!

1- In the first hour, we delved into the ongoing debate about pay disparity between WNBA and NBA players. The mainstream media, along with figures like Joe Biden, argue for equal pay for WNBA players compared to their male counterparts. This discussion highlights the lack of understanding in economics within our government and explains their approach to printing and spending money.

 

2- School students in Utah staged a walkout to protest the lack of discipline for "furries" – individuals who dress up and act as animals – who have been accused of punching and biting other students. The protesters claim that when they retaliate, they are the ones punished. This situation raises some important questions about the handling of such incidents in schools.   3- Cy Parks, the owner of The Lost Sock in Madison, MS, joined us in the studio for an engaging discussion. The Lost Sock is a full-service laundry business that goes above and beyond in customer service. Despite the seemingly mundane topic, the interview with Cy Parks was surprisingly thought-provoking, as we explored the challenges and successes of running a small, local business.

Fred has been at the center of a hot button topic concerning the potential removal and replacement of Mississippi's two confederate statues in the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C.. We get Fred on the record to discuss the potential of that happening and what would have to happen for their removal to become a reality.

Remember when you could crack a racially insensitive joke without getting canceled? When the LGBTQ community could laugh at themselves and others without being accused of internalizing homophobia or transphobia? Oh, how we miss those days!

  Nowadays, it seems like we've entered an era where only certain groups are allowed to be the butt of the joke. But let's be real, folks – if we can't laugh at ourselves, who can we laugh at? It's time to bring back the freedom to make fun of everyone, regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation.

Shad's response Last week, Mississippi State’s spokesman Sid Salter went on statewide news and implied I was lying about Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs on campuses. These crazy DEI programs push ideas like “whiteness” is evil, and they waste money on big salaries and grants for nonsense like equity-based preschool yoga. Salter said that “is not what we’re doing at Mississippi State University” and “I don’t think it’s what we’re doing at the other universities in Mississippi.” This isn’t some slip of the tongue for him; it’s the second time this month he’s said something like this to statewide media. So let’s talk about why Sid is lying, with evidence taken straight from Mississippi State’s website. The truth is Mississippi State, like many universities, is shot through with crazy racial ideology. Examples: - The university issued a press release praising itself for “whiteness” research and its deep exploration of “white privilege.” Sid knows this because he was Chief Communications Officer for the university at the time. - The university also promoted a “Whiteness Seminar” during this period. Sid Salter, what is “whiteness”? We all know it would be obviously racist to praise someone if they did research claiming “blackness” was bad. So why is “whiteness” research any different? Mississippi taxpayers, who are footing the bill for this stuff, want to know. - Entire departments at State have released written statements professing loyalty to “antiracist” ideology, and if you haven’t heard of “antiracism,” the main idea behind it is the notion that “the only remedy to past discrimination is present discrimination.” It’s nuts. Sid Salter, why do whole university departments promote this brand of discrimination? How does this move Mississippi’s economy forward? Taxpayers want our universities to relentlessly focus on training the next generation of engineers, architects, and scientists—to be the engine that will power Mississippi’s economy. Wasting money on this garbage I describe above distracts from that. - These examples are just the tip of the iceberg at Mississippi State. There are hundreds of pages of research into topics like “systemic racism,” “colorblind racism” (whatever that means), “white privilege,” etc. This “whiteness” trash is weird and divides us as a state rather than brings us together. Universities need to only spend our taxpayer money on the things that make common sense.

Kicking off election day with a bang

We spent the whole first hour + discussing the rise of the furry phenomenon here locally in central Mississippi

Here's this mornings news you can use, I'm tweaking how I do these daily morning videos because frankly there's not always a single story that's worthy of a full dedicated video but if we lump 3-4 stories together you guys get more bang for your buck and I get some good content so it's a win / win for both of us.

1- Capitol Police Chief Bo Luckey says that they will increase downtown presence after Friday nights mass shooting at the Daquiri Bar on Capitol st. as the legendary Mayflower Restaurant gets ready to re-open after the new owners give it the first makeover it's had since opening nearly 80 years ago.

2- Broadway Jackson issues statement about the condition of Thalia Mara Hall after it was closed due to potentially deadly mold being discovered.

3- A new high-end apartment development has been approved by the city council in northeast Jackson, I think this is a great opportunity to bring more young professionals to Jackson so it's good to see them not screw this up like they have so many other things.

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker blast Joe Biden, DEI & the Catholic church at during his commencement address to Benedictine College. This is a great reminder that we all have to stand up and speak out against the lgbtq, pro-choice, left-wing, marxist ideology.

 

4. The dumbest person in the Joe Biden administration (KJP) gets called out by Peter Ducey for Biden using the term "bloodbath" in the same context as Trump,. what comes after this is classic Democrat word salad.

A great call came in from an unknown listener and he brought up the fact that we're all wasting out time talking about who's gonna win or lose the debate tonight because the NWO & Democrats are just going to steal the election again this time like they did in 2020. I bring up the point that even if that's true we have to get out and vote so hard that we overwhelm the system!!

A new study reveals the most trans-kids grow out of it by the age of 25, I break this down and give some relevant examples of why kids shouldn't cut their penis or boobs off.

The feds have loaded up 6 sealed federal indictments to the chaser system in Hinds County, we speculate that these could be the indictments we've been waiting to drop on Hinds County D.A. Jody Owens, Jackson, Ms. Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba and multiple city council members. We then try to decide who amongst the rumored group to be indicted would be most likely to flip on their co-defendants? 

One of my favorite independent journalist in the state of Mississippi who also happens to be a free thinking black women, Mrs. Angela Buckner W/ the online media platform known as "MIC Magazine" joins me this morning and man did we hit some hot social / racial topics from all angles.

1- We covered the response from Ridgeland Police Chief Brian Myers over the viral traffic stop video that was first covered on the Clay Edwards Show Monday when the man who got pulled over called in and we gave 24 minutes to explain his side of the story. We used this as a opportunity to have an in-depth conversation about black youth and traffic stops as well as them taking accountability for what happens to them on these traffic stops.

2- Atlanta Pastor Philip Anthony Mitchel is under fire for telling his congregation that it's black youths fault for getting themselves killed on traffic stops, we play the clips from the sermon as well as the ridiculous response from Indisputable host Dr. Rashad Richey.

3- We talked about the attack on masculinity and why so many so-called "men" bent the knee to the establishment and attacked men who kept it real

1. THE STORY OF IVANNA WILLIAMS, THE MHP TROOPER FIRED FOR BEHAIVOR UNBECOMING OF A TROOPER (MULTIPLE SEXUALLY CHARGED INCIDENTS)

Jackson, Ms. had a very deadly day this week that included a 68 year old women being shot and killed in her home and a potential hate crime taking place where 2 young, black males shot a white man at the south Jackson grocery store.

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba used his most recent episode of “Ask Antar” to thank supporters and reassure residents the city of Jackson is moving forward even as he faces multiple corruption charges.

In October, a federal grand jury indicted Lumumba, Ward Six Councilman Aaron Banks, and Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens in connection with a bribery scheme to bring a convention center hotel to downtown Jackson.

The comments mark only the second time the mayor has discussed the indictment since it was unsealed on November 7.

“People have been keeping me lifted up... sending me daily text messages, prayers, Scriptures, lifting up my family, not only in Jackson but around the country,” he said. “These are the moments that you’re taught who really are your friends and who support you, and I’ve been grateful for that support.”

Lumumba, dressed in a gray sweater and a black button-up shirt, reiterated statements he made outside of the Thad Cochran Federal Courthouse last month, that he was going to continue to fight the charges and work for residents.

“I don’t want anyone to be fearful for that,” he said. “I’m going to move around. I’m not going to walk around as if I’m guilty of something I am not.”

He pointed to the fact that after his arraignment, he went to Tampa, Florida, for the National League of Cities Centennial Summit “to seek solutions for the city” and to “appear for multiple speaking engagements.”

“[I want] our residents to know that, as I’ve said, ‘I’m not only innocent, but I’m going to fight those charges and I’ll let my attorneys handle that,’” he said. “I owe them a responsibility, and so I’m going to make certain I maintain and adhere to that responsibility.”

“We’re still working, we’re still meeting, we’re still seeking solutions to the problems that face Jackson residents every day... I’m grateful to have a team around me that can focus in.”

Lumumba is charged with conspiracy, federal program bribery, the use of an interstate facility in aid of racketeering, honest services wire fraud, and money laundering after he allegedly accepted $50,000 in bribes to benefit developers wanting to bring a convention center hotel to Jackson.

The developers, who claimed to be with Facility Solutions Team out of Hendersonville, Tennessee, turned out to be confidential human sources with the FBI.

The mayor told Director of Communications Melissa Faith Payne during the roughly 30-minute episode that this was not the first time he’s been investigated by the agency, and that he’s dealt with the FBI “my entire life.”

“We were often surveilled. To this day, I actually have FOIA documents to demonstrate that... I’ve seen my high school pictures in FBI documents, [pictures from] my mother’s funeral in FBI documents, details on my parents’ relationship in FBI documents,” he said.

“Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon to me... It’s not something I want for my children. I really have to question what family, or anybody, would justify that level of scrutiny, that level of investment, to follow a family that long,” he continued. “It is not something that is foreign territory to me.”

Lumumba is in his second term as Jackson’s mayor. He was first elected in 2017 and re-elected by a landslide in 2021.

He is the son of the late Nubia and Chokwe Lumumba, a civil rights attorney and activist who died in 2014, about eight months into his first and only term in office.

It outlines the categories of text messages specifically regulated due to moral and legal issues and is monitored and enforced by the Cellular Telephone Industries Association (CTIA) and the mobile carriers.   Who gets to determine what is and isn’t “hateful”?   Will political text messages be censored now as well going into 2024?

SCOTT COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT) - Six people have been arrested in connection with a drug bust in Scott County.

On Tuesday, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Task Force and SWAT team, assisted by agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, executed a search warrant for a home in the 6000 block of Highway 35 North in Hillsboro.

During the search, a “significant amount” of methamphetamine was discovered in the home and in a camper behind the home.

Author Johnson, Reginald Williams, George Allen, Sherry Coonce, Kimberly Harris, and Sammy Anderson were all arrested.

High school attendance post covid is way down according to new numbers in a report by local news channel WLBT I mean who could ever have seen that coming?

Clay goes on unhinged rant about Jackson THUGS stealing a mans vehicle, and this isn't just any man either. They stole Locke Wards vehicle, Locke is the man that took it upon himself to motivate and organize a team of people to start cleaning up Jackson's interstates, exits, sidewalks, etc. They've been cleaning trash, pressure washing and more for the last year or so plus. I guess no good deed goes unpunished in Jackson. I offer a "positive solution" to fix this problem.

In recent years, Central Mississippi, particularly the Jackson area, has seen several ambitious projects announced with much fanfare, only to be met with disappointment as they never came to fruition. Among the most notable of these unrealized ventures is the "Jubilee Jam," a music festival once celebrated for its vibrant atmosphere and diverse lineup.

 

The Jubilee Jam, a beloved event that brought joy to many Mississippians, was unfortunately unable to continue due to the growing concerns over safety and security in the area. As the city of Jackson grapples with its reputation for crime and violence, potential attendees have become increasingly wary of attending large-scale events that require them to let their guard down and enjoy themselves without constant vigilance.

 

This unfortunate reality has led to a significant decline in the number of major music festivals and other large-scale events in the region, as organizers struggle to find a balance between providing a fun and memorable experience for attendees and ensuring their safety. The loss of such events not only affects the local economy but also deprives the community of opportunities to come together and celebrate their shared love of music and culture.

 

While it is disheartening to see projects like the Jubilee Jam fall by the wayside, it is essential for the community to address the underlying issues of safety and security to foster an environment where such events can once again thrive. Only then can Central Mississippi reclaim its status as a vibrant hub for arts and culture, attracting visitors from near and far to enjoy the rich tapestry of music and entertainment that the region has to offer.
