E5: From Leader to Thought Leader with Denise Brosseau
00:37:01
When I served as a nonprofit executive director, I read Denise Brousseau’s book, ‘Ready To Be a Thought Leader?’ It taught me everything I needed to know to step into thought leadership, and start creating a ripple effect in my community. In this episode, we come full circle! I am joined by Denise Brosseau, CEO, Keynote Speaker, Thought Leadership Strategist, Author, Executive Coach, and LinkedIn Learning Instructor.
We discussed: [02:34] Why Denise became a thought leader on thought leadership [05:40] How to create your own influential platforms to attract the right investors [08:49] Why thought leadership can be challenging (hint: it’s a marathon, not a sprint) [10:54] What’s thought leadership vs. personal branding [13:20] How to not burnout while pursuing your big vision [22:30] Getting over the itty bitty shitty committee [27:31] Can there be more than one thought leader in an organization? After an early career in the technology industry, Denise co-founded the Forum for Women Entrepreneurs, the first trade association for women-led high-growth startups. She was also on the founding team for the first Venture Capital Conference for Women Entrepreneurs. Those experiences took her from leader to thought leader and set her trajectory for the work she does today, helping others on a similar journey. She is the author of the bestseller “Ready To Be a Thought Leader?” and her thought leadership course on LinkedIn has been viewed by over 250,000 people all around the world.
E6: Reframing Thought Leadership as 'Lived Leadership'
00:22:23
The first step of thought leadership is getting so clear on your vision for a changed world that you actually embody it. You become a walking manifestation of the change you’re working towards.
That’s why I’m reframing thought leadership as “lived leadership” - because you have to BE about it.
In this (solo) episode, I’m sharing how to dream up your vision - your north star - to practice embodied visionary leadership, and how it fits into a larger constellation.
If you’re ready to build a platform and community to break down the way things have always been, it all starts with imagining a new future.
I share about:
[02:21] Reframing thought leadership as a way of being [06:56] Your vision statement as a filtration system [10:50] Going through discomfort to really embody your vision [13:41] Seven questions to get clear on your vision as a leader [15:55] How your north star fits into a larger constellation [20:37] My nine (personal) guiding principles to embody the type of vision I’m working towards

Jessica is passionate about building a pipeline of underrepresented students, and works as a career advisor and program manager at the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley. E13: Podcasts and Getting Paid with Claire Pelletreau
00:53:10
Claire Pelletreau is the host of the top-rated Get Paid Podcast where she asks successful business owners the questions we all want to ask, like, “How much money do you make? And how much do you have to pay to make that money?” When she’s not launching new podcast episodes, Claire simplifies the complex world of Facebook and Instagram advertising to help her clients create a significant impact in their business. “I had started to make more and more connections with other consultants, experts, and thought leaders, but I couldn't figure out how they were making the kind of money they were making. So I figured the best way to ask them was a private conversation that I then get to air. They get to promote themselves. And I get the answers. E14: Four Questions to Build your Thought Leadership Brand
00:21:37
After thirteen episodes of The Campfire Circle podcast, I noticed certain questions kept coming up in conversation with my guests. I realized I'm actually asking about the key points of how they express their thought leadership. “Thought leadership [...] is where we consistently tap into our passion, experience, and credibility to build trust and community as we imagine and shape the future together for the better.” I’m dedicating this solo episode to those key points because if you ask yourself these same questions, you’ll be well on your way to building your own thought leadership brand. “I want to know about what lived experiences you endured and dreamed through and worked your way out of, because you now have a roadmap to share with other people. And the funny thing that you’ll notice as you start sharing your personal brand story, is that it’s about you but it’s bigger than you. It contains the pieces that motivate other people to join you on behalf of your shared vision.”
In this episode: [02:10] What is thought leadership and why does it matter? [05:00] Sharing your origin story (or what you’ve grown through) [10:15] Uncovering your unique, transformative framework [12:31] A vision directs your thought leadership [16:10] Nurturing a community instead of an audience

00:36:31
Tatiana O’Hara is an agency and team operations coach who doesn’t just help create organizational charts or SOPs. She helps people recover from the grind: patterns of overwork, perfectionism, over-delivery, and ongoing worry that if we don’t do it all ourselves, things will fall apart. "Even with the concept of being booked and busy, you slowly start to link your value to your output and don't even realize it. You get to a point where you can't output anymore because you're burnt out. But then you start to think you're less valuable as a person and as a business owner." - Tatiana O’Hara Addiction to the grind is real, and it takes guidance to find recovery. E23: What Transferable Skills Will Power Your Brand and Business?
00:23:25
The skills you've gained up to this point are completely valid. But too often, women aren’t sure if they can “own” previous experiences from their full-time jobs in their thought leadership content, now that they’re consultants, service providers, or coaches. As in, if it wasn't explicitly in our job title, we don't have permission to say we've got expertise in it. In this solo episode, I’m sharing how our transferable skills can set us up for success. I also talk about some insights of how a career in social impact set me up for entrepreneurship. How can you factor in your own lived experiences into the ways you show up and shine in the world? 00:25:41
In this solo episode, I’m talking about the four most common barriers to thought leadership and visibility on LinkedIn that I hear and work with and offering up suggestions that have been helpful for me personally and for my clients: from both a strategy perspective and a ‘systematically limited beliefs’ perspective.
You already have the lived experience, the stories, the passion, and the credibility to spark a ripple effect toward that future. Sometimes we need a little strategy and support in remembering our magic and individual capacity for change-making. In this episode:

[10:53] Belief 2: I feel invisible and forgotten about on LinkedIn.
[16:29] Belief 3: I’m not sure my opinions are worth sharing.
[20:38] Belief 4: Showing up on LinkedIn feels overwhelming

Their book provides straightforward and real-life leadership examples to help AAPI and allies navigate pitfalls and challenges as we move forward in growing our visibility, careers, and businesses.
“I always give the comparison of the very American idiom of “the squeaky wheel gets the grease”. I was taught “the loudest duck gets shot.” I was taught “the loudest bamboo gets cut” and “the tallest nail gets hammered down … so, the Visibility Mindset is really understanding: ‘Yes, we get you. Emily Grubman approaches naming with the big-picture thinking of a brand strategist, the linguistic lust of a writer, and the sober practicality of a trademark lawyer (although she’s the first to tell you she’s definitely not a lawyer). She partners with early-stage startups and “solopreneurs” to name and launch their vision. But it’s not just about naming your business. As you get more visible as a thought leader and go-to voice, you may be naming new offers in your offer suite, fundraising campaigns, podcasts, books, and more. So, join us by the Campfire Circle today as Emily does a deep dive into naming strategy, providing practical advice on what to focus on and what to avoid.
“The thing you’re naming is new, but thinking as far ahead as possible helps you understand how you want it to grow and expand. You want to give it that longevity to flex as needed to encompass all the things you want to achieve with it.” - Emily Grubman We discussed:

E29: Courageously Attract Your Champagne Clients with Mariah Coz
00:55:56
Mariah Coz is a business architect, a multimillion-dollar mentor, and the founder of Fearless CEO. “There are high-level clients sitting and waiting in the wings. I called it "Lurking in luxury." They're not responding, they're not the loudest, and they're not commenting on your content … But all the people who are just silently watching you? They're literally waiting for you to put something out there that speaks to them and resonates with them.” - Mariah Coz We discussed: [06:33] How does social media fit into our ecosystems today? E31: How to Legally Protect Your Brand with Casey Handy-Smith, Esq.
00:38:36
Casey Handy-Smith is the founder and managing attorney of C. Handy Law, an intellectual property and entertainment law firm. She partners with Black creatives and entrepreneurs to build a solid legal foundation and negotiate their worth. In this episode, Casey shares actionable advice on getting your legal house in order as a personal brand or creative entrepreneur, dealing with the inevitable legal hurdles in business, and treating your IP as an asset you can leverage into your legacy. We also talk about Casey’s own thought leadership journey and the process of rooting into her passion, story, and lived experience to grow her brand and business on LinkedIn.
"By showing up as a thought leader and really leading with my passion and "why," I'm attracting the type of people I want to attract. It doesn't feel like visibility for the sake of visibility, but centered around a larger purpose." - Casey Handy-Smith
E32: Beat Imposter Thoughts and Content Blocks With a High Five File
00:18:44
Imposter thoughts are natural. Human psychology sets us up to think about past negative experiences more than the kudos, compliments, and high fives flowing our way. We internalize those negative experiences into stories that we continue to tell ourselves - making it tough to show up as an embodied leader and guide.
My favorite tool to beat imposter thoughts (AND content blocks) is the High Five file. Keeping track of client testimonials, positive speaker feedback, and DM’s about your impactful content helps you show up and share content from the perspective of the leader you’re trying to embody. It’s also a source of inspiration for thought leadership content ideas that can help you show up consistently.
“Negativity bias, imposter thoughts, and systematically limited beliefs like perfectionism keep us from showing up. So, we leave transformational opportunities at the table because we’re not AT the table to get these opportunities.” - Tania Bhattacharyya
E33: Breaking Down The Barriers Behind Batching LinkedIn Content
00:20:43
If trying to publish your perspective on LinkedIn between Zoom calls, Slack pings, and Outlook dings isn’t working for you, then batching content for LinkedIn may. I did a LinkedIn poll to find out what keeps social impact leaders from batching thought leadership content. In this episode, I provide real examples of how you can overcome those barriers to easefully stay visible and attract the opportunities meant for you. “Start thinking of your LinkedIn as a lighthouse. Content is the fuel that keeps the light on, so the ships (or rather the people) can actually find you and moor safely into the solution that you provide.” - Tania Bhattacharyya
In this episode: [03:53] Barrier #4 - “My creative process keeps me from batching.” [09:07] Barrier #3 - “My content may not stay relevant if I batch” [13:21] Barrier #2 - “Writer’s block and not knowing what to say” [17:10] Barrier #1 - “It’s hard to find dedicated time”

E34: Be a Change Agent (from the We Are For Good Podcast)
00:37:28
Being a change agent is never going out of style. Today, I'm sharing one of my own guest interviews. It’s with some of my favorite peeps: Jon, Becky, and Julie (aka the We Are For Good team) as part of their series ‘9 Nonprofit Trends That Matter in 2023.’ If you don't yet know about the We Are For Good podcast, they are THE podcast for changemakers with nearly 400,000 downloads and an infinite, unmeasurable amount of warm fuzzy feels, aha moments, and serious inspiration.
“The reality is, friends, everybody can be a changemaker, and you don't have to have the microphone and the Nobel prize to be able to do it.” - Becky Endicott
I mentioned putting Becky’s introduction in my High Five File, where I keep track of client testimonials, positive speaker feedback, and DM’s to boost my confidence and my content. If you want to have one of your own, download your free High Five File Notion template here.

I recently launched my LinkedIn Content Sprint, where I bring folks through a process to easefully batch six months of thought leadership content for LinkedIn. "You are painting a picture. You're creating the conditions to inspire the folks you want to serve into believing and knowing they can achieve the vision that you desire for them."

Listen in to steal my LinkedIn polls strategy and start engaging in conversations with the people who raise their hand!

E37: Overcoming Imposter Syndrome while Building Your Thought Leadership Brand
00:20:41
Imposter thoughts stop so many impactful entrepreneurs and executives from getting visible and building their thought leadership – especially on a platform like LinkedIn. But the most effective and long-lasting way to build trust and community as an expertise-based small business is to SHARE that expertise publicly, imperfectly, clearly, and proudly! In this solo episode, I outline Dr. Valerie Young's five flavors of imposter thoughts and how they specifically show up for mission-driven humans building their thought leadership brand. More importantly, I share actionable reframes you can practice to build new thoughts in the moment and serve your people in a deeper way. “Showing up with love and positive intention is enough, because the reader, the ideal client, the beloved human being I am trying to reach does not need me to be perfect, they need me to be ME. That’s all I can give to them, and that is enough.”

E38: How to Be Lazy on LinkedIn: Build Clarity, Content & Community
00:19:54
I’ve recently been invited to some awesome spaces to talk about being “Lazy on LinkedIn” – or spending one intentional hour a week on LinkedIn to move the needle in your business. I love talking about this and it seems to resonate so in today’s episode, I’m sharing my 3-part framework that makes being Lazy on LinkedIn possible. E39: Are You Cultivating Your Creativity? How to Work Your "Creativity Muscle" for Changemaking Work
00:20:23
Creativity is a skill that builds our influence, recognition, and changemaking capacity, and it’s not just for the reasons you might think. Without creativity, we can’t imagine our way out of the status quo. It’s our ability to dream up a new kind of future that will spark the just transition that we're working towards. If you work on a problem you are deeply passionate about, it’s your creativity along with the recognition you’re building as a thought leader that can spark the ripple effect you're after. In this episode, I talk about how to work out your ‘creativity muscle’ and keep it strong for your changemaking work as a coach, consultant, service provider, or nonprofit leader.

E40: Measure the Magic: Tracking Resonance Instead of Reach
00:20:19
Resonance > reach. And, quality is more important than quantity - which is easier said than embodied. This is where we have to unlearn the deep, entrenched inclination towards MORE. Towards always scaling, producing the biggest results, or having access to the most eyeballs and earholes. None of that is actually necessary (and it may not even be helpful to your goals.) This episode is about “measuring the magic” when it comes to thought leadership and visibility efforts. I’ll share what makes content resonate with your audience and some clues on how we can find the signals of resonance on LinkedIn and through email marketing. Her mission is teaching leaders who love their jobs and the companies they work for how to develop a strategic personal brand so they can take charge of their own success at work. Join us in The Campfire Circle as Cher walks us through the mindset of showing up online, leveraging social media for work, and achieving a socially active presence. “I need to let people know what I'm good at, so they can use me more in those situations where I can add the best value. But there’s a lot of unpacking, rewiring, and giving yourself the language to feel good about … actually owning that [expertise].” - Cher Jones

E65: Why, When, and Where of Storytelling for Social Impact Communications
00:19:24
Do you gravitate towards statistics over storytelling in your social impact communications?
You’re not alone – in a Stanford study, students were asked to prepare a 1 minute speech about crime. Students used an average of 3 statistics in their 1 minute speech, but only 1 in 10 students told a story.
Just 10 minutes later, only 5% of people remembered the data shared. However, 63% of attendees remembered the stories.
In this episode, we're going to explore the why, when, and where of using storytelling in your social impact communications to drive your mission forward.
We discuss: [01:17] Why storytelling is important [06:28] When to use storytelling as an advocacy tool [11:03] The 3 stories to have and share as a changemaker [14:16] Where to share your stories to drive your mission forward

Executive visibility… a lot of people tell me, “Tania, I'm just too introverted to put myself out there.” I really do get it. Being perceived and opening yourself up to potential judgment can be very scary. But when I think about what introversion really is: thriving from time spent alone or in 1:1 conversations where we feel seen and understood - executive visibility is a perfect fit for our tendencies. In this episode, I share ways to shift your mindset if introversion is a barrier to getting visible. I also share action steps to show up in a way that feels authentic to you.
We discussed: [02:25] Executive visibility matters – and your introversion can actually help [04:46] Reframing how we think about visibility [09:10] Get clear on why you’re getting visible [11:39] Build your brand in a way that feels good to you [17:53] Focus on resonance and celebrate every win

Reflection doesn’t always come up as a key marketing skill (like writing, strategy, or knowing an algorithm.) BUT to get visible as a go-to voice in your field, you need to first pause, reflect on your experiences, and clarify your perspectives, In this podcast episode, I talk about how building a habit of reflection will support your thought leadership practice and share dozens of reflection questions for you – to make this executive visibility habit stick. What better time to reflect than year end?

As social impact leaders, we wear a WHOLE LOT of hats (which makes it hard to explain what we truly do!) In this episode, Sarabeth covers how you can discover your unique value and communicate your true professional identity as a hybrid professional.
“A hybrid professional defies traditional job titles because they work at the intersections of disparate identities. Hybrids integrate their work identities together to create an entirely new identity. This becomes their truest professional identity.”

E3: Becoming More of Yourself with Spiritual Leader and Cultural Director Rev. Adelia Sandoval
00:39:41
In this episode of The Campfire Circle, Tania talks to Rev. Adelia Sandoval, Spiritual Leader and Cultural Director for the Juaneño Band of Mission Indians. She is a Ceremonial Leader, Song Keeper, Wisdom Holder, Tribal Teacher, and Healer.
As she learned the stories and ways from her teachers, she also learned she didn’t have to “save the tribe” … she just had to become more of herself.
Sharing our stories creates a ripple effect, and even if one person hears our story and does something different because of it, well, then we just changed the trajectory of the world. In a good way.
