15 Aug 2023 | Becoming the go-to Photographer in Your Area | 00:24:56
LEARN WITH PAULA How often do you see other photographers in your area zooming up in the ranks (even if you have been around for years) And wonder how did they become so big so quickly? I used to to sit back and ponder this. As a bit of an over thinker and eager student I would study what others were doing to try and see if I could map out what makes some photogs become well known and stand out more than others. Sure the quality of your photography is one thing, but there really are other elements that mean that one photographer can navigate to a successful business quicker than another with equal skills. So in this episode I distilled my thoughts on this down to 3 key areas I think you can focus on to become one of the go-to photographers in your area. In this episode, I share :

06 May 2024 | Offers that Makes Sense for Female Photogs & Clients | 00:27:32
This one is for the lady photogs today. Don’t mean to exclude the boys ever (but I am today) I just really wanted to speak to my girls out there today. Cause let’s face it, lady photog business owners are often juggling lots of plates. Now I am not discounting men and their contribution in any way. In fact my dad was a photographer who more than pulled his weight in the home. However I have observed that many of my best friends & clients (who are all business owners from all different walks of life) do have to balance just a few more tasks when kids and household duties are concerned. So I wanted to record an episode to speak to the lady photogs who do business with other ladies in business.. Cause I really think that what we are all looking for is ease and simplicity. So if you are feeling stressed out, overwhelmed, tired, like you are not necessarily doing everything (or anything) as well as you’d like to be doing. This episode is for you!

PRICING & PACKAGING WORKSHOP LEARN WITH PAULA Have you been mulling over a price increase (or decrease) for a while now? Implementing changes in your pricing can make you feel a bit ick. I get it. But there comes a time when you have to put your business pants on and implement some changes in the way you are pricing your photography, otherwise you might end up finding yourself in a pickle at the end of the quarter. And with inflation affecting everyone across the world, I thought this was a good time to maybe give you a little nudge to take a look at this area in your business. Whether your calendar is full or you are looking to fill it, this is an area that needs a little check in to make sure your business is healthy, and so I wanted to share what I think are the red flags that are telling you it is time to consider (and implement) a price adjustment in your business. In this episode, I share :

Or other things in life can keep bumping into you and you can get derailed from what you think your goals are. Happens to all of us hey? I recorded this episode I am about to share with you last week before I jumped on a plane to the USA. This was just a last minute record of thoughts, so please excuse me if I am a bit bumbly. As much as the education side of what I do has grown, it definitely has taken a way different path than I thought. But I am making it to present at WPPI in just a matter of days, a dream I have had for quite some time now. And so in sharing this story I hope that it might inspire you (if you need it) to stay the course with your business dreams too!

09 Oct 2023 | That Naked Girl on the Beach in the year 2000 | 00:07:50
LEARN WITH PAULA CHECKOUT UPCOMING WORKSHOPS Have you ever learnt in person with another photographer ? In the early days I was lucky enough to carry bags, reflectors and fluff dresses and (not robes) for so many awesome photogs. And I was pretty good cheap (and often free) labour, so I got asked to come back. I am a massive fan of learning on the job. And that is why I have always been a huge fan of going to paid workshops throughout my career. I was sharing with my good friend Alison a story about a workshop I was at, back in the year 2000, and great thing was I hit record on my phone. And so for todays episode I thought I would share this little snippet from our long conversation about one of the biggest lessons I learnt in my career.

21 Mar 2023 | Student Spotlight - Mike Styer on Headshots, Corporate & SEO | 00:51:47
FOR MENTORING + LEARNING WITH PAULA CLICK HERE So one of my favorite things to do is to connect with photographers who I have trained and see how they have grown in their business. And this guy is a legend in my eyes. Mike Styer is a Philadelphia/Exton-based headshot and branding photographer who works with small businesses, corporations, entrepreneurs, to create “a photographic experience that doesn’t suck!” I was so keen to invite Mike onto the Podcast, cause I just love that Mike adopted and adapted when we worked together, but he didn’t try to flip his entire business model. And best of all, he has been able to increase his average sales significantly as a result. Mike is also a bit of a marketing geek like me so I was so keen to learn and get him to share what he has learnt about SEO, something I have a basic knowledge and practise of, but this discussion just blew my mind about possibilities of going deeper into SEO. And as Mike and I both started out young in our businesses, I was keen to open up a discussion about self learning through running a business. FOR MENTORING + LEARNING WITH PAULA CLICK HERE Understanding how personal brand photographs are used by your clients and the story that's being told plays an integral part of a successful photoshoot. So in this episode I’ve invited a beautiful client of mine, Delyse Wright to share her insights and expertise in creating great images that serve clients all throughout their branding. Delyse is a brand stylist and brand coach who’s been through her own brand evolutions and acknowledges these transitions as stepping stones to finding her true passion. 02 Jan 2023 | Understanding The Value You Deliver | 00:15:56
I’d like to start the year by discussing one persistent problem most people struggle with: understanding the value you deliver. Although I wouldn’t want to exclude you gentlemen in this conversation let me say a little disclaimer that I see this issue more in women than you. The reality is that so many women in our industry don’t value themselves, which is evident in how they handle business. Not recognising the value you offer impacts business growth - you don’t know how to set proper pricing, come up with better offers, and don’t see the return of all your efforts and hard work. I hope that in this episode you learn how to appreciate your value, unravel the possibilities you truly deserve, and start taking control of where your business needs to go. And this is something I could talk for days about. However it really got me thinking about the journey. 30 Apr 2024 | My Perfect Day | 00:21:03
Join Free Mini Brand Session Masterclass by Clicking Here Once upon a time, I felt so overwhelmed in my business that I hired a business coach, cause I couldn’t see which way was up. They walked me through an exercise to work out what my perfect day would look like. I know this may seem like a silly exercise to many, but I was working so hard for other people's outcomes I lost sight of what I wanted for me on a day to day basis. This was 7 years ago. And as I was recording todays episode of the podcast, I realised that “this day” - a Monday I experienced recently - was it! Now this “Monday” was not by any means one of the most remarkable days in terms of business, revenue or marketing. But it is the kind of day I have been building my business towards for years. And this is also what I like to help others to do, to build their business to serve them THEIR perfect day (in fact I have virtually a whole module inside of my course devoted to this outcome) So if you are feeling in need of inspiration about how the simplicity of one single day can bring another so much joy Then this episode is for you my friend.

I love software that helps me to save time, serve my clients better and make more money. Simple. And I really love software that just makes the whole process of setting up, operating and understanding all the tech stuff easier. Which is why I am a massive fan of Studio Ninja, and why I wanted so badly to chat with Chris Garbacz and introduce him and SN to you if you have not discovered them yet, Chris is an award winning wedding photographer, co-founder at Studio Ninja and author of Shoot Like a Ninja, an Amazon Top 10 bestseller... just to name a few things! But rather than doing a "sales pitch"" for the software, I really wanted you to hear the guy behind the software, as I think that it is the people behind this photography business tool that is what makes it a standout for me. You can hear in his voice that he is passionate about helping us photogs, cause he is one, and he gets the struggle. I love sharing stories with Chris about the transition into seeing the light with automations and hearing the success stories of the studio ninja clients. And I especially am a big fan of how candidly he shares the origin story and how they overcame so many early obstacles on their journey of growth. Lots of lessons in this one for sticking the path, and even if you don't geek out on automations and this tech stuff like I do there is still so much gold in this one. Took a little break from the podcast to recharge after an intense month filled with travel and overseas visitors. But its been long enough and my hiatus gave me time to ponder and reflect deeply on your needs (as well as my own!) After spending a couple of cool weeks teaching, shooting and mentoring in the USA, I I gleaned invaluable insights. Cause I think if you operate independently (cause lets face it the majority of domestic photographers do) And you FEEL like you are on your own with what you are feeling (cause maybe the people around don't really understand what you are going through) Then it can be a lonely kind of business (even if you are meeting and capturing LOTs of different people and places) So in this episode, I wanted to share what my key takeaways were from meeting 100’s of photographers - all at different stages - from across the world. Are you at a point where you are evaluating your photography business and want to start 2024 with gusto? If you've tried every folio building / portrait offer / pricing combination, but just don't seem to be able to get the sales you know you need to justify the amount of time you spend on each job. Or maybe you are running ragged chasing after small tots on portraits shoots, dealing with screaming babies and uptight parents, all with no guarantee of a pay cheque at the end... always crossing your fingers that they would actually get a decent sale to make it all worthwhile. Or perhaps you are just feeling a little burnt out from another exhausting wedding season (and are in editing overwhelm right now) and want to make sure you don't land here (again) next year. If you are nodding to any of the above, my friend this episode is for you. I share how you can make some changes in your business so that you feel more in flow in 2024.

Rather than giving them a list of what to wear and what not to wear, I like to support them to make choices that feel right for them. I am a massive "experience" person. I am not huge into amassing material possessions. I'd happily trade in nice jewelry for an epic holiday to fill my memory banks. That's me. And that is why I love creating experiences for my clients. Cause I really understand that a good photo shoot can go way beyond the necessity to create a bunch of great images. Sure that is the final outcome, but it can be an amazing journey and experience along the way to get that outcome. As a result, the feedback I get from my clients goes way beyond how the images make them feel, but rather how the shoot experience as a whole makes them feel. So I wanted to dig deep into a recent shoot experience to share with you some insights that might help you to expand your experiences. And help shift you into thinking a bit more broadly about how you offer Personal Branding to your clients as a product.
06 Dec 2023 | 3 Lessons Learnt from Teaching In Person Workshops | 00:23:33
I really love learning & teaching in person. You pick up little things that you just can not see on filtered videos where we take out or repeat the things people don't want you to see. In a world full of editing I think there is still no better way to learn than sitting in a room, watching someone work and getting to ask questions in the moment. This is why I LOVED teaching a series of in-person workshops recently. After coaching and teaching photographers from around the world on Zooms for the last few years, it was great to literally learn from other photographers as they asked questions, shared things with me and of course me getting to watch others in action. So in this episode I thought I would share a few things I learnt about the way I shoot, from teaching others in person. In this episode I share : * The biggest thing that can literally transform the way you capture - and its not equipment * Where to place awareness when capturing people * How to make sure you achieve your shoot goals LEARN WITH ME

LEARN WITH PAULA One question I get asked all the time is “Do you allow families into your personal brand photoshoots?” So I thought I would record a podcast episode to answer this question. 13 Feb 2024 | Overcoming the Solopreneurs Loneliness Slump | 00:16:18
LEARN WITH PAULA As this podcast audience has grown, I am getting to hear from more and more of you listeners that you have found yourself feeling lonely in business at times. But even more so in the past couple of years. And despite me working LOTS with clients and students, so did I! This episode was sparked by a conversation with my daughter where she shared with me a little bit of TikTok Wisdom. And as I looked back over my own recent behaviors I was able to connect the dots to some of the loneliness traps I had accidentally stayed inside of post-pandemic. This episode is for you if you need a little motivation to step out of your own little (anti-social) comfort zone and start connecting a little more and in a meaningful way. This is not about handing out your business cards, or talking shop, but more about finding connections that feed your soul in ways that perhaps your regular friendships or family don’t right now.

Learn With Paula One of the things I have struggled with a lot through my career is, overwhelm. That is really the only word for it. Let’s face it - when you are a solopreneur as the grams would call it, you have to do everything and feel like you have to be everywhere for everyone. And as much as it is lovely to be able to facilitate the needs of others as much as you can, this can just leave you with an empty cup. In this episode I wanted to share openly and honestly the one main thing I have learnt to do to make sure I don’t burn out. In this episode, I share:

Some call it mini sessions, I prefer NOT to use this title, but as it is industry understood, I am running with that title. Now I know that doing mini sessions is not for everyone. But if you like the idea of pouring your energy into one shoot experience and one shoot day, and you can mange 2-3+ people in one day, this can be a great addition to your product suite, Best of all as the cost of pulling together the day is split across multiple people, the offer can be a great deal for your clients. 13 Feb 2023 | Epicly Wisdomous | 00:15:31
FOR MENTORING + LEARNING WITH PAULA CLICK HERE Last week as I was driving with my beautiful teenager after I picked her up from school, and she was enthusiastically recalling something that had happened in one of her classes that day. Her teacher asked something that stuck up some debate (particularly in my daughter) but it really made me look at how we photographers work. In this episode, I’m going to share proud momma moments and some awesome teenage wisdom I think we can all listen to once in a while. Because let’s face it, the photography industry, social media, the media.. all instill so much pressure on what other people think of you. If you are struggling with comparisonitus, perfectionism or are just overthinking everything, take a little listen to see what some wisdom from someone who is not layered with all the gabage we put on ourselves can share! 05 Dec 2022 | My Number One Favourite Marketing Tool And Why I Love It | 00:17:28
Often it’s the simplest tools that can make the biggest impact. My number one go-to marketing tool is email. It may sound old-fashioned, but it still stands as a powerful way to reach customers and get your message out there. One of the main reasons I love email marketing is its accessibility. You don’t need any special equipment or skills to get started - all you need is an email address and a computer. Even if you don’t have tech expertise, you can easily create beautiful newsletters, automated messages, and promotional offers without breaking a sweat. Believe it or not, I'm not a techy person, yet I was able to quickly learn the basics of email marketing and start making an impact with my campaigns. If you want the most bang for your buck, you can’t go wrong with email. Listen to this episode now to learn more about how you can supercharge your email marketing. This will also help you to be able to create better quality images with purpose so that you deliver a high-quality collection with range. Remember to SUBSCRIBE and FOLLOW!

30 Nov 2022 | On Location Shoot Tips | 00:18:54
FOR MENTORING + LEARNING WITH PAULA CLICK HERE If you are a studio photographer and you are used to controlling your light and circumstances, I know that shooting on location can completely freak you out. Trust me, even as a veteran photographer - wedding & portraits - preferring natural light, going on location can still freak me out at times. The thing we know is that you can’t control everything. That’s just a simple fact. But it can be so much fun when you drive down and find a magic stream light coming through the trees on a long windy road, or a glisten that reflects in her eyes when the sunlight hits that magic golden hour. PLUS I love the variety I can create for my clients by consistently changing up my backdrops and it keeps the gypsy in me stimulated creatively. Let’s face it, if you want to succeed in personal branding, you need to get comfortable with shooting on location. So in this episode I wanted to share my top tips for shooting on location.
