25 Jan 2024S4 EP02: Yeah, That's the Ticket01:27:32

So I was walking down Rodeo Drive the other day when who should stop me but one... Steven Spielberg. Yeah. And he says to me, "Hey, that Bricked Pit is the best podcast that I've ever heard. Me and my buddy George... you know, George Lucas, never miss an episode." Yeah, that's it. And he loved how our latest episode is about unreliable narrators. Listen as Josh Hartnett, Adam Driver, and Jason Sudeikis discuss such films as The Usual Suspects, Fight Club, Memento, Atonement, and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.

04 Aug 2022Josh hates TikTok 00:08:01
TikTok is the terminus of postmodernity. And I don’t like it
18 Apr 2024S4 EP08:The Bear Movies and the One About Water01:25:38

Well, it was back in '24 when Adam up and sold all his possessions and moved out west to the Rockies to live off the land as a trapper and all around mountain man since he already felt that he had the beard for it. Josh began training to accomplish his lifelong pursuit to fight a bear in a sumo match. As for Jason, well he decided to sail around the world solo in an inflatable kiddie pool. Why'd they do such things? Some say that they were crazy. Others say they was bored. Still, some believe that they were just plumb stupid. Turns out that they were all those things. Plus, they wanted to prepare to talk about movies concerning man vs. nature like Project Grizzly, The Revenant, All Is Lost, Jerimiah Johnson, and Never Cry Wolf.

01 Dec 2022S02 EP25: Everyday Investigation01:31:24

You were just going on vacation when you come across a dead body in your hotel room. The cops think that you're the murderer. While they're breathing down your neck, the real killer is getting away. Guess it's a good thing that you're a medical doctor who writes murder mysteries when you're not moonlighting as a private investigator. Josh, Adam, and Jason discuss the mystery genre where normal people have to step in for the police to solve the big mystery. The suspect list contains such films/TV shows as The Zero Effect, Nero Wolfe, Knives Out, Blowout, Lady in White, Confess Fletch, The Thin Man, just a fraction of the Sherlock Holmes adaptations, and much more.

04 Nov 2021S01 E19 The Overhyped Movies We Don’t Dig 01:16:16

Unfortunately, it's happened to all of us. Especially when you were young. It wasn't really your fault. You just didn't know any better. You got caught up in the wrong crowd. Peer pressure is a thing. Before you know it, you're using that money that you stole from your mother's purse to buy a ticket to Attack of the Clones. I mean... you saw The Phantom Menace. You know that this isn't going to get any better; but there are your friends waving you into the theater. The latest trailers and Lego sets are racing across their minds. They've succumbed to... THE OVERHYPE!!!!

Join Adam, Jason, and Josh as they discuss those films that rose to the top because someway, somehow the masses were drawn to it; but the films themselves could cast the check that all the hype wrote. Movies in this sphere include but are not limited to The Blair Witch Project; American Beauty, Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, Donnie Darko, Full Metal Jacket, Avatar, and Joker.

21 Oct 2021S01 EP18 The Monster Mash00:58:13

The chiming of the old grandfather clock notifies us that it is the witching hour. Well, the witching hour for those who go to bed by 7:30. That gives everyone plenty enough time to listen to the recent episode of The Bricked Pit where Josh, Jason, and Adam finish up their horror themed episodes in honor of Halloween by talking about the super genre of the HORROR COMEDY!!!! Get to the work shed as the guys discuss such films as Evil Dead 2; What We Do in the Shadows; Tucker & Dale vs. Evil; Saturday the 14th; Gremlins; and Killer Klowns from Outer Space. Whoever brought the wolfman, could you please get him back on his leash. He's in the flowerbed again digging up Jason's prize begonias.

23 Mar 2023S3 EP06: The Kids Are Alright01:12:19

The bulldozers are showing up in the morning to demolish the neighborhood. Kurt unleashed a demonic spider monkey with a laser gun. Chupacabra aliens are landing on the outskirts of town, and all the parents were kidnapped by an evil mad scientist played by that guy who used to do the kitchen appliance commercials. The day can only be saved by the true heroes... kids. That's right, Jason, Adam, and Josh discuss movies where the kids step up and take on those things that the parents can't. Join us in the Bricked Pit as they discuss films like Monster Squad; Honey, I Shrunk the Kids; Invaders from Mars; Incredibles 2; The Facutly; and The Gate. Look for us everywhere you get your podcasts and our Spotify page at: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/brickedpit

07 Sep 2023S03 EP18: We're Back01:26:26

Grab the popcorn and drinks. Put away the cellphones. Why? Because we're back in movie theaters, and you don't want to be a jerk. Hear Josh, Adam, and Jason talk about why people are still going out to the movies and what brought them out of their dark homes into the darkened theaters. They'll talk about such viewing experiences as Blue Beetle, Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning, TMNT: Mutant Mayhem, Evil Dead Rising, and, of course, the phenomena of Barbienheimer.

25 Aug 2022S02 E17: The Giant Guns of Liberty Range01:31:08

Welcome to the Western, pardner. What we gots here is the old cattle barons, gunslingers, and all sorts of rough and tumble folks who helped tame the wild land west of the Mississippi coming up against all the greenhorns from back east coming in with their fences, locomotive trains, and laws with them. Jason, Adam, and Josh talk about when civilization proper begins to encroach on the Wild West of open ranges and gun duels. Listen to the cowpokes sing the ballads of such films as The Wild Bunch, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Open Range, Shane, No Country for Old Men, Unforgiven, Giant, and the Young Guns films.

28 Jul 2022S02 EP15: Stop Making the Band: Live in Pompeii01:36:16

Put on your too tight jeans, do up that hair, and get ready to rock! In your living room! The guys go back to the documentary genre for a little slice of the concert film. What separates these movies from other documentaries? Are they their own art form? Did you just take the brown acid? Oh my god! Keep calm! Take deep breaths, and listen to the guys bring you down by talking about Monterey Pop, The Last Waltz, Depeche Mode 101, Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii, Stop Making Sense, Amazing Grace, and Neil Young in Berlin. Josh may have been deceptive in the editing by including audio of songs not recorded during the Berlin performance for this episode.

13 Jan 2022S02 EP01: Redemption01:41:43

Man, we heard that you were so bad that Santa just backed up a truck full of coal on your front porch. Don't worry, folks, because it's a new year. It's time to start over and redeem yourself just like your favorite movie characters. But can you? Are you worthy of the redemption you seek? I'd suggest consulting a member of the clergy or a philosophy professor on that one. While you're waiting for them to call you back, listen to Josh, Adam, and Jason discuss the concept of redemption in our entertainment. What does it mean to be redeemed? Is everyone who gets redemption worthy? The guys get into the weeds talking about 3:10 to Yuma, Trainspotting, Logan, Groundhog Day, Falling Down, and Gran Torino amongst others.

21 Apr 2022S02 EP07 Based on a True Story01:12:23

I was on the case. There I was sitting in a dive bar because some big lug with a face that could sour milk was paying me 25 bucks a day plus expenses. I was searching. Not for a dame. No, that would have been too easy. Instead he wanted me to find him a podcast that talked about Film Noir. None of this would have been necessary had he just listened to The Bricked Pit. Jason, Josh, Adam, and their special guest Patrick from Vintage Video already punched that ticket when they talked about such films as Murder, My Sweet, D.O.A., The Asphalt Jungle, and Double Indemnity.

As you notice the slime hanging off the bulkhead, your ears catch the hiss from behind you. It's at that moment that you realize that you're in a space horror film. 14 Dec 2023S03 EP25: A Hallmark Movie for Christmas01:12:24

It's Christmas, and that means a lot of things here in The Bricked Pit. Decorating the Pit in lights, bows, and pictures of Bruce Willis in an air duct. The annual bribing of the Mayor of Hollywood to keep from being shut down during the strikes. And the viewing of horrible Hallmark movies. Listen as Josh, Jason, and Adam discuss the absolute mediocrity that is the romantic Christmas TV movie. They're so forgettable that we even can't remember what we've talked about to list it here in the show notes.

08 Sep 2022S02 EP19: No Money, No Problem01:41:43

We don't have time to mess around. We've only got 45 more minutes before we lose the light. You only get one take, so don't screw up your lines. Don't worry about the camera. It's just going to be on sticks. We can't afford to move it. That's how it is when you're working on a small budget. Don't worry, this movie will be big despite not having a blockbuster budget. You know why? Because this movie's got something that connects to the public, it's got heart. You don't believe me? Ask the guys from the Bricked Pit. They know about movies like My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Moon, Mad Max, Rocky, Monty Python & the Holy Grail, Pulp Fiction, and Napoleon Dynamite.

Submarines and missile silos are ready to launch. You've got to get to the embassy to prevent WWIII. Welcome to the Cold War film. April Seventh, Nineteen Hundred and Sixty-Two. The First Battle of the Bricked Pit was brutal. Private Josh was injured by cannon fire. Doc Adam amputated his right arm in a very painful procedure that was made even more painful by the fact that it was Josh's legs that were injured in the blast. Lt. Jason took massive casualties to his regiment after being given the order to charge. He took no enemy fire. Instead, he led his men into the river. Few knew how to swim. The guys in the Pit talk about some of their favorite movie score composers and soundtracks. Somehow Adam, Jason, and Josh are able to whittle down their favorites to people like John Williams, Elmer Bernstein, John Carpenter, Vangelis, Danny Elfman, Howard Shore, and Prince to start and soundtracks like The Crow, Snatch, the Guardians of the Galaxy films, and American Graffiti.

We're going back to when parenting was filling your bowl with Mr. T cereal and plopping you in front of the TV for a few hours while they sat at the kitchen table staring off into the void smoking Marlboros. You're watching the cartoon based off a franchise about the sexual exploits of police officers, playing with your toys of a murderous cyborg, and wearing your pajamas of a mentally unstable war veteran. In the 1980's and into the 90's, companies weren't going to leave merchandizing money on the table and were willing to sell almost anything and everything to kids. Even the IPs that weren't originally made for them. Jason, Adam, and Josh talk about those properties that crossed the line from grown-up entertainment to toy aisle and animated territories. The Bricked Pit's discussion includes Ghostbusters, Terminators, Predators (the alien kind), Toxic Avengers, Robocops, and Rambos. Let us know of any more that come to your mind because we know that we didn't get them all.

We're laying out our plans for 2022 and asking for you to give us a hand in making the Bricked Pit a better podcast. They also give some recommendations from their recent viewing habit.

27 Jan 2022S02 EP02 You Killed My Father. Prepare to Die01:05:54

To the last I grapple with thee; from hell's heart I stab at thee; for hate's sake I listen to the latest episode of The Bricked Pit. After starting the year off with talk about redemption, the guys decide to take a dive into the dark waters of revenge. Jason, Adam, and Josh discuss what it is about getting back at someone or something that pulls us in. On line for the discussion are films such as The Crow, Trading Places, Dirty Work, The Sting, Soldier, High Plains Drifter, A Nightmare on Elm Street, True Grit, and The Wraith while kicking Kill Bill while it's down.

23 Sep 2021S01 E15 Muh Muh MY MacGuffin01:05:30

Unlike what Adam believes, the MacGuffin is not on the breakfast menu of a fast food restaurant. Nor is it a hastily made contraption made from rubber bands and chewing gum wrappers to get the hero out of sticky situation. The MacGuffin is that thing that provides the characters with the motivation needed to move the plot forward. The guys define and discuss some of the most famous and favorite MacGuffins from such films as Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade, The Maltese Falcon, D.O.A., and others.

12 May 2022By the Power of Hate Box!00:12:36

The Great Miffed Lord Josh is out, so Jason steps in for this week's Hate Box to talk about his most hated movie. A live action adaptation tarnishes his favorite toy line, but is it really that important?

04 Apr 2024S4 EP07: The Night & the Podcast Part II01:17:13

They had such a good time with the topic of Film Noir that they wouldn't shut up. Listen to the conclusion of the discussion with special guest Patrick from Vintage Video as he, Jason, Adam, & Josh talk about such films as Sunset Blvd., Laura, The Killers, and The Big Sleep.

19 May 2022S02 EP10: It's a Disaster!01:11:27

The earthquake's damaged the nuclear reactor. Its heat is attracting the Killer Horny Toads towards the town. The guys in the Pit decided that since their podcast was a disaster that maybe they should do an episode on disaster films. What are the hallmarks of a disaster film? Why do audiences love them? How much money was Michael Caine's tax bill to cause him to be in so many? The guys talk films like The Poseidon Adventure, Twister, Dr. Strangelove, Armageddon, The Martian, Greenland, The Swarm, and others.

16 Jun 2022S02 EP12: The King of Mock!01:04:23

As you sit back in your LazerBoy recliner wearing your Levy jeans and drinking your Dr. Thunder soda, you see by the time on your Rollex watch that it's time to watch a movie. Well, there're only one kind of movie for someone of your caliber. That's the mockbuster. A movie that knows that it doesn't have the budget, cast, marketing, or originality of your big studio A-list titles; but knows that it can be made cheaper and in just the nick of time to ride a blockbuster's coattails to profitability. Jason, Adam, and Josh discuss such films as Troll 2, Death Race 2000, Mac & Me, Missing in Action, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes.

23 Feb 2023S3 EP04: Working for a Living01:14:37

If you’re not 5 minutes early, then you’re late for work. Don’t even think about punching out early. You get three 15 minute breaks, so be sure to time your bathroom trips appropriately. We’ve got to get this podcast about films in the workplace out on time. That means everyone from packing to shipping needs to pull their weight so that people can listen to Jason, Adam, and Josh discuss such films as Office Space, Secretary, Glengarry Glen Ross, The Social Network, and 9 to 5.

03 Jun 2021S01 E07 Everything old is new again part Deux : The Bad00:42:06

The conclusion of the Remakes conversation. Now the guys get into the bad discussing the remakes that don't live up to the standards of the original. A line in the sand is drawn over what films should never be remade.

Films: Psycho, True Grit, Day of the Jackal, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Blade Runner, Red Dawn, The Black Hole, and It's a Wonderful Life.

14 Oct 2021Star Wars visions00:07:41

19 Oct 2023S03 EP21: We Better Check This Out01:29:02

When things go bump in the night, who checks it out. Not us. But we'll talk about the people who do. Join Old Man Josh, Ghost Clown Adam, and Sludge Monster Jason on their discussion of supernatural sleuths to finish out the month of October and the Halloween season. Listen as they discuss such media as Kolchak the Night Stalker, The X-Files, True Detective, Constantine, The Legend of Hell House, and the legendary Scooby-Doo.

30 Jun 2022S02 EP13: Excellent! 80's Teen Movies01:28:11

Are you trying to hack the Pentagon on an Apple IIe? Are you wearing suspenders with a t-shirt and blazer? Is a Culture Club cassette stuck in your mom's Chevy Caprice Wagon's tape deck? Are your Air Jordans kicked up on the mall food court table? You may be stuck in an 80's teen movie. I mean existentially. You really need to get help. Your hairline is not what it used to be and all those bills are way past due. While you wait for your family to show up and take you home, listen to Adam, Josh, and Jason talk about 80's teen movies. What made them great? How well have they aged after 30 years? They talk about 3 O'Clock High, The Breakfast Club, Better Off Dead, Ferris Bueller, Adventures in Babysitting, Iron Eagle, Dream a Little Dream, Say Anything, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and more.

05 Jan 2023Josh meets the Beatles 00:20:39
Josh watched Peter Jackson’s doc, Get Back. Should you? Josh has 20 minutes of things to say about it
30 Mar 2023We'll Always Have the Bricked Pit00:07:12

Jason likes old movies and dislikes those who don't. Just because it is old or in black & white doesn't meant that it isn't good.

22 Sep 2022S02 EP 20: Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting!01:16:36

If you wish to learn the secret of Bricked Pit style, you must first unite your body and mind to optimize the flow of your qi. Then, you must muster all of your hatred, passion, and ego to channel it into the unearned self confidence to discuss film theory and history for podcast episodes on things such as the Hong Kong/Taiwanese Kung Fu film genre. Adam uses his Flying Giggle Kick to talk about Drunken Master 2; Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; Hero; and Kung Fu Hustle. Josh's Burning Hate Punch lays to waste Cripple Masters and Rumble in the Bronx. Jason unleashes his Lunging Double Disdain attack on The 36th Chamber of Shaolin and Dragon. These and other movies will feel the might of the dreaded Bricked Pit style, which consists mostly of sucker punches and insulting one's preferred pop culture entertainment.

09 Sep 2021S01 EP14 Leave The Gun, Take the Cannoli00:54:17

Hey! What's all the commotion?! I'll tell you what it is. Adam has finally returned to The Bricked Pit and wants to make you an offer that you can't refuse. He leads Jason and Josh on a discussion about films and TV dealing with organized crime. They talk about your Godfather series, your Breaking Bads, your Sopranos, The Wire... Hey! You're not wearing a wire, are you? C'mere. You and me takin' a ride.

19 Jan 2023Disney SAVES Andor with a single word00:19:53

Josh can’t shut up about Andor. The best Disney Star Wars show to date. But it almost bricked the pit at the 11th hour.

14 Jul 2022S02 EP14: It Ain't Disney01:23:40

It's late. The kids have gone to bed. You have the living room to yourselves. The lights are low. You still have a box of wine left. You know what's it time for. That's right. Time to watch some cartoons! We're not talking about that Disney BS with dancing mice. No, the mice here only do the dance of death as they gnaw off people's faces. The guys discuss animated films that are made for more mature audiences... well... at least age wise. Jason, Adam, and Josh talk about cartoons dealing with more adult themes that sometimes have curse words, graphic violence, drug and/or alcohol use, and maybe even some nudity. Join them as they discuss filmmakers such as Ralph Bakshi and Hayao Miyazaki. They talk about such films as Heavy Metal, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Fantastic Planet, and A Scanner Darkly while also discussing the importance of TV animation like The Simpsons, The Adult Swim lineup, and Archer among others.

02 Feb 2023Not the Hate Box: Westerns for Beginners00:08:22

Instead of our usual dose of hate between regular episodes, Jason gives suggestions for anyone not familiar with the Western genre who may want to give it a try.

02 Jun 2022S02 EP11: This House is Clean01:32:25

You sit in the living room of that old house that you just bought. The door swings open as that old rocking chair squeaks back and forth. Is it all due to that cold draft that you felt chill your bones just a moment ago? Or is it something much worse? An entity of pure dread? At that moment you hear the disembodied laughter echo around you and your heart sinks in the realization that it's Adam and an omen of a new episode of The Bricked Pit. This episode, Josh, Jason, and Adam welcome John from the Open Pike Night podcast to talk about haunted house movies. Join in as they discuss The Changeling, Ghost Ship, The Shining, Poltergeist, Event Horizon, and The Haunting among others.

15 Dec 2022S02 EP26: Ho-Ho-Hokey Christmas01:23:35

As you open that Christmas card from your Aunt Edna with the folded five dollar bill inside, you think to your self, "Why don't the people who make these cards also make movies?" Well, they do. Not only do they make movies, their formula has practically become a genre in itself and has been copied dozens of times over. This week Josh, Jason, and Adam each watched a 'Hallmark' Christmas movie or one of the knock-offs. Listen as they discuss My Southern Family Christmas, Falling for Christmas, and The Noel Diary.

The guys in the Pit are back in full swing after being banned by a Tennessee school board. This time Josh, Jason, and Adam discuss the Hays Code that lasted for three decades in the US. 07 Jul 2022Hate loosely based on..00:10:44
Aloha, Josh spent 2 days in Hawaii and can’t shake the colloquialisms. Kidding. He hates that. He also hates shows that botch the final episode, retroactively ruining the whole season. Mahalo for listening

Adam takes over the off-week episode and shares one of his favorite holiday traditions with you.

20 Oct 2022S02 EP22: The King and I01:21:06

Are you a child with a troubled life and psychic powers? Does your car drive itself and murder your bullies? Do violent religious zealots curse and abuse you? Are you a writer with an alcohol/drug problem? Well, you just may be a Stephen King character? Don't worry. You might be in one of the ones with a good ending. Probably not, though. While you wait for your certain doom to materialize, listen to the latest episode of The Bricked Pit with special guest from The Super Network Bede Jermyn and the other guys Josh, Adam, and Jason as they discuss the highs and lows of Stephen King movies such as Stand By Me, The Dead Zone, The Shinning, Carrie, Firestarter, Dreamcatchers, The Lawnmower Man, and others.

09 Mar 2023S3 EP04: Badaptations01:03:05

The book was better. I prefer the original anime over the US live action remake. Playing Battleship was a lot more fun than watching it. Josh, Adam, and Jason discuss those films that just didn't capture the source material 100%. The films themselves may be good, but they just aren't the same as the material that they are drawn from. Hear them discuss movies such as World War Z, the 1998 Godzilla, The Running Man, Clueless, and The Hobbit.

26 Aug 2021S01 E13 It Hurts So Good01:35:27

Whether it's googly eyed monsters, inexplicable martial arts rivalries, or community theater level acting, there's something we all love about watching a bad movie. Join Josh, Jason, and special guest Super Marcey from The Super Network discuss why we enjoy bad films as well as share some of their favorites like Miami Connection; Cannon Tales: Puss and Boots; Back from Hell; No Retreat, No Surrender; Roadhouse; and The Sword & the Sorcerer. As a bonus find out why Mac & Me is the Wish version of E.T. *Note: This episode is explicit mostly due to scrotum talk.

17 Nov 2022S02 EP24: When You're Here, You're Family01:19:40

Turkey day is almost here. That means food and family. *No, I don't know how long it's been in the oven.* It all comes with a lot of preparation and aggravation. You've got Aunt Stella and her new boyfriend coming by later. The in-laws have threatened to drop by early to 'help out'. And Cousin Oliver has some new and as of yet undisclosed food allergies. *I have no idea. Have you looked in the bottom cabinet? I'm busy right now.* Before everything gets out of hand, join Adam, Josh, and Jason in a discussion about dysfunctional families. *FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! I'M TRYING TO DO A PODCAST WRITE UP ABOUT DISCUSSIONS INVOLVING MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE, MARRIED WITH CHILDREN, THE REF, RAISING HOPE, STEP BROTHERS, LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE, CAPTAIN FANTASTIC, AND FOR SOME REASON GILMORE GIRLS YET AGAIN!*

30 Nov 2023S03 EP24: Must be Italian01:05:41
