10 Jun 2022Independent Streak00:37:33

In a new series here on Jesse Ventura’s Die First, Then Quit we will be giving a platform and showcasing candidates, activists, and influencers who are fighting to bring something new, fresh, and game changing to the worlds of politics and pop culture.

In this inaugural episode, Tyrel Ventura sits down with Minnesota State Senate candidate Huldah Hiltsley to discuss the trials, tribulations, and successes she has faced, not only, on the 2022 campaign trail but throughout her very unique life. Including her family’s incredibly heartwarming story involving legendary Minnesota Senator Paul Wellstone. A moment in her life that directly ties into her historic run for Senate.

Though she is aiming to win the nomination and run on the Democratic Party ticket this November, Huldah’s grassroots, community organizer passion to represent with honesty and accountability the over eight-five thousand residents of her district makes her stand out from rest of the two-party pack. Add in the fact that she refuses to take lobbyist money and that her dedication to change the system from the inside out is shaking up the old money, old politics, status quo of the Minnesota Democratic Party and you, my friends, have got the makings for a truly independent, one-of-a-kind candidate.

The kind of candidate that we like to feature here on Jesse Ventura’s Die First, Then Quit.

16 Jun 2022Independent Streak Ep. 200:38:53

In this ongoing series here on Jesse Ventura’s Die First, Then Quit we will be giving a platform and showcasing candidates, activists, and influencers who are fighting to bring something new, fresh, and game changing to the worlds of politics and pop culture.

In this episode, Tyrel Ventura drove out to the rural farm lands of western Minnesota to sit down with the 3rd party candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives, Travis “Bull” Johnson.

A long time Libertarian but currently running under the Legal Marijuana Now Party, Johnson is aiming to win Minnesota’s 7th Congressional District with his unique brand of no-nonsense honesty and blue collar work ethic. Although his district has a long history of voting GOP red, “Bull” has been gaining serious momentum on all sides of the political spectrum. While his support of the 2nd Amendment and passion for downsizing the federal government wins him much needed conservative votes, his stance on ending the Drug War, rolling back the Military Industrial Complex, and ending corporate America’s stranglehold over the U.S. Government has drawn him praise and support from his left leaning constituents as well.

With his staunch desire to tear down the two party dictatorship by winning his race for the U.S. House, the 20 year Army veteran Travis “Bull” Johnson is the epitome of a true independent statesman and that makes him the perfect candidate for the Independent Streak podcast here on Jesse Ventura’s Die First, Then Quit.

Welcome to the Independent Streak Podcast, only on Jesse Ventura’s Die First, Then Quit. Here we showcase candidates, activists, and influencers who are fighting to bring something new, fresh, and game changing to the worlds of politics and pop culture.

On this episode, Gov. Jesse Ventura sits down with the award winning journalist and screenwriter, David Sirota

David Sirota, the journalist, author, and Academy Award nominated screenwriter, has made an illustrious career shining a light on the corruption, graft, and downright lunacy found in both U.S. politics and Wall Street.

Dubbed a “new generation populist” by famed columnist Molly Ivins, Sirota’s fearless investigative journalism and unique voice as a writer has not only uncovered shady deals between corporate power and public institutions it also landed him on the 2020 campaign trail where he worked as a speech writer for Sen. Bernie Sanders during his run for President.

Staying ever vigilant to his profession, 2020 also witnessed Sirota launch The Lever, a reader supported, online news outlet dedicated to bringing true independent investigative journalism to its subscribers. Most recently, he was nominated for Best Original Screenplay by the Film and Motion Picture Academy for his work, along side director Adam Mckay, on the Netflix smash hit, Don’t Look Up.

David Sirota embodies exactly what the Fourth Estate was originally meant to be, the people’s watchdog against government corruption and oppression. This makes him the perfect guest for this edition of the Independent Streak Podcast, only on Jesse Ventura’s Die First, Then Quit.

15 Jul 2022Election Shenanigans In North Carolina00:22:56

Welcome to the Independent Streak Podcast, only on Jesse Ventura’s Die First, Then Quit. Here we showcase candidates, activists, and influencers who are fighting to bring something new, fresh, and game changing to the worlds of politics and pop culture.

On this episode, Gov. Jesse Ventura sits down with the Green Party U.S. Senate candidate out of North Carolina, Matthew Hoh.

Soldier, Peace Advocate, and now U.S. Senate Candidate, Matthew Hoh has never been afraid to stand tall in the face of corruption and unchecked power.

Serving ten years in the Marine Corp, as well as holding important positions within the U.S. State Department, Hoh has seen the true face of U.S. foreign policy and the Military Industrial Complex’s influence over it. After witnessing first hand the United States invasions and subsequent failures in nation building in both Iraq and Afghanistan, Hoh famously resigned his position with the State Dept. in 2009. With The Washington Post acknowledged at the time, that Hoh…

…became the first U.S. official known to resign in protest over the Afghan war, which he had come to believe simply fueled the insurgency.

In the ensuing years, Hoh, has been an outspoken critic of U.S. foreign policy as well as Corporate America’s undue influence over our elected officials. He has been appeared on hundreds of news programs and television networks including the BBC, CBS, CNN, CSPAN, Fox, NBC, MSNBC, NPR, and Pacifica.

Now, after years of speaking truth to power, Hoh is running for the United States Senate on the Green Party ticket in North Carolina. Controversy, however, has erupted on the campaign trail as the N.C. State Board of Elections recently voted to deny recognition of Matthew Hoh and the Green Party, effectively keeping them off this Novembers ballet.

On this edition of the Independent Streak podcast, Gov. Jesse Ventura sat down with Matthew Hoh to discuss his run for office and the Democratic Party’s rather undemocratic attempts to keep him off the ballot.

Welcome to the Independent Streak Podcast, only on Jesse Ventura’s Die First, Then Quit. Here we showcase candidates, activists, and influencers who are fighting to bring something new, fresh, and game changing to the worlds of politics and pop culture.

On this episode Tyrel Ventura has a lively discussion with Zac Polston & Gavin Miller-Broomfield the hosts of the The Vanguard.

Owing their inspiration to the Gonzo Journalism of the late Hunter S. Thompson, Zac Polston and Gavin Miller-Broomfield’s The Vanguard has quickly become one of the most biting, hilarious, and thought provoking political commentary channels on YouTube.

Created back in May of 2020, the fledgling channel has already amassed an impressive array of guests and commentators, from the iconic Noam Chomsky to the controversial Glenn Greenwald. Zac and Gavin’s poignant political commentary and hilarious banter has even garnered them praise from famous progressive voices like Susan Sarandon and journalist Matt Taibbi. Not bad for two young voices crying out from the wilderness of middle America.

With an unyielding passion to call out the political and corporate power structures that have laid waste to the upward mobility of their generation, this dynamic duo are welcome editions to this episode of the Independent Streak podcast.

02 Aug 2022Nope Means Yes00:40:05

As the summer movie season rages on, one unique and original film is this years diamond in the rough. In what is now a rarity in cinema, director Jordan Peele’s new film Nope isn’t based on a pre-existing property, it’s not a sequel, and its not the beginning of a brand new franchise. It is instead a wholly original summer blockbuster that dares to make audiences think for their entertainment. A truly daring concept in the age of spoon-fed plots and mass appeal corporate cinema.

So how did this daring film make it onto summer movie screens? Tyrel Ventura sits down with author and Georgetown Professor, Chris Chambers to discuss Nope and its maverick director, Jordan Peele.

Christopher Chambers is a professor at Georgetown University in Washington DC and Chair of the International Conflict Resolution Center. He is also an avid film buff, and the author of best selling crime novels, a graphic novel, and numerous award-winning short stories, including “I, Shuri,” in Marvel’s Tales of Wakanda. His latest book, Scavenger, features a homeless addict turned a private investigator; that character returns in Standalone, coming in October.

03 Aug 2022Pres. Biden Goes To The Kingdom00:20:32

With gas prices bullying us into submission and inflation deflating our bank accounts, U.S. President Joe Biden travelled to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in July to make his case before the Saudi King. Hopes were held high that not only would Biden get the Kingdom to produce more oil in order to lower prices but that he would also hold Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman accountable for the brutal murder of Washington Post journalist, Jamal Khashoggi. Those hopes were very quickly dashed.

Former CIA Officer, whistleblower, and now journalist John Kiriakou was there on the ground covering the event for the Scheer Report and he witnessed firsthand how Biden turned a fist bump into a face plant. Recently, Kiriakou sat down with Gov. Jesse Ventura to discuss Biden’s trip, U.S. Foreign Policy in the region and the latest news on the persecution of Julian Assange. Enjoy.

21 Sep 2022The Denied Parole of Sirhan Sirhan00:32:06

In January of 2022, California Gov. Gavin Newsom rejected and denied the parole of Sirhan Sirhan, the man accused and convicted of assassinating Robert F. Kennedy at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles back in 1968. Gov. Newsom’s decision directly contradicts a California parole panel’s official recommendation that Sirhan, now 77 years old, be granted freedom after spending more than 50 years behind bars.

In his official denial of parole, the California Governor explained his decision writing…

“Mr. Sirhan’s assassination of Senator Kennedy is among the most notorious crimes in American history … I have concluded that he is unsuitable for parole because he poses a current threat to public safety. After decades in prison, Mr. Sirhan has failed to address the deficiencies that led him to assassinate Senator Kennedy. Mr. Sirhan lacks the insight that would prevent him from making the same types of dangerous decisions he made in the past.”

In response to Gov. Newsom’s decision, Angela Berry, a lawyer for Mr. Sirhan, said in a statement…

“Not an iota of evidence exists to suggest Mr. Sirhan is still a danger to society,”

One of the many people fighting on behalf of Sirhan Sirhan is Jen Abreu, the Executive Director of Redemption Row California. She recently joined Gov. Jesse Ventura to delve into the bizarre and often tragic case of Sirhan Sirhan. A man who many researches and historians now believe was not the “lone nut” gunman the U.S. Government and Mainstream Media declared he was.

In this podcast, Gov. Ventura and Ms. Abreu discuss Gov. Gavin Newsom’s denying of Sirhan’s parole, the conspiracies surrounding the assassination and whether Sirhan represents a current threat to society.

Professor of media studies at Georgetown University, lawyer, and International Fellow at International Conflict Resolution Center, Chris Chambers is a man of many talents but it is in his work as a crime novelist where you can see his true creativity and hard hitting social commentary shine.

Through his main character Dickie Cornish, a Washington, DC street denizen turned unlicensed private investigator, Chambers is able to shine a light on some of the real life institutional corruptions and tragedies that beset those members of our society that we are quick to forget, disregard, or toss aside in our society.

It’s in his melding of classic detective fiction with modern day street level scandal that Chambers crafts and truly unique and compelling sequel to his best selling book “Scavenger” and in the process creates a truly unique brand of storytelling that makes him the perfect addition for this edition of the Independent Streak Podcast.
