19 Aug 2022Ep. 1 Breaking Patterns and Habits00:03:33

One of the biggest hacks I can give you to eliminate LIMITING BELIEFS and take your power back is to journal regularly and take notes when you hear something that resonates with you. Journaling works out in the real world, and I encourage you to use your notes app when inspiration strikes, when you are triggered by an event, or feel anxious. Using your notes app creates awareness around the thoughts, feelings, and emotions that keep you stuck but also the ones that lead you to a place of creation or reaching a "flow state." A flow state is simply when you feel at peace or in deep connection with your inner being and it allows you to be creative in your own way. THIS is the path to feeling joy! The first step in healing is creating awareness around your patterns of behavior, daily thoughts, or situations that leave you feeling drained or anxious. A good example is waking up in the morning and immediately reaching for your phone. Please know, you are not alone! We have all done it, but the real question is. 1. How does that make you feel? 2. How long do you stay in bed scrolling on your phone? Answer: Take a moment to answer these questions in your notebook. This one habit can produce many negative outcomes in your day. You may feel invalidated, frustrated, sad, angry, resentful, or depressed depending on what type of content you interacted with. This is where your first TRANSFORMATION begins. Make a PROMISE to yourself that you are going to start your day by leaving your phone alone for the first hour after you wake up in the morning. This is an extremely hard habit to break but I BELIEVE you can do it! At first you may feel even more anxious because you want to grab your phone. This is a great opportunity to grab your journal or a notebook and start writing about what you are feeling in that moment and why. The primary reason you want to scroll through your phone is that you desire CONNECTION. Connection is something we all desire, but do you feel more connected to yourself or less connected when you scroll through your phone? Self-Love is really about taking your power back by realizing how strong you really are. You will hear me say this throughout the program, "This is your opportunity to take your power back from the things that no longer serve you." You can apply this technique to other areas in your life and begin to think about is what I'm doing right now getting me closer to or further away from my goals?

20 Aug 2022Ep. 2 Morning Routine for Self-Love Step 100:03:52

Today....right NOW....is a great OPPORTUNITY to take massive action towards your goals and make another CHANGE! The reason many people aren't successful when they begin to make changes in their life is because they go from 0 to 60 mph with their goals. The DESIRE is there, The PASSION is there, but that MOMENTUM quickly burns out because that pace isn't sustainable. The key to making sustainable change is to take it slow. You go slow to go fast. Meaning when you slowly stack your NEW habits on top of each other you are building a solid foundation of skills and abilities that you didn't have before. The difference is those new skills are now built into your DNA, they are HABITS, they are subconscious. A good quote to remember is, "We are what we repeatedly do" Aristotle. What does it look like to stack a HABIT? Hydration is always a great place to start because most of us don't drink enough water in a day. Now, let's build the habit! Each night before you go to bed fill a 1-liter water bottle up and put it on your nightstand. Then make a COMMITMENT to yourself that you will drink that entire water bottle before you leave your bedroom for the next 30 days. You can track each day in your journal and be accountable to yourself. When you make a promise to yourself and keep it you will feel more confident building on top of that habit. Remember, your journey is unique to you and there will be days where you negotiate with your mind to NOT drink the water. You'll tell yourself...I don't want to, I'm so tired, I'm not even thirsty, and that is the self-sabotage kicking in, but you have been there before. NOT THIS TIME! This is the last time you give up on yourself! On the hard days I want you to tell your mind, "Stop, I'm drinking my water" "We aren't talking about that today". Don't worry, we all talk to ourselves whether you realize it or not. It's time to narrate your story differently! CHALLENGE! When you get up each day make a COMMITMENT to making your bed every day without fail. There is a substantial mental health benefit to making your bed each day. You'll feel more Accomplished Reduced Anxiety Better Sleep Improved Focus Higher Productivity Empowered

06 Sep 2022Ep. 3 Beginner Breathwork 00:03:42

I began practicing breathwork in 2020 at a low point in my life with high stress. I found myself not sleeping well, I was tired all the time, and had an overwhelming feeling of anxiousness. Remember, it's not I am anxious" it's "I feel anxious". I've been anxious my whole life but didn't know that was the feeling I was experiencing. I thought the feeling of anxiousness and overthinking was normal. Then I discovered the work of Joe Dispenza, started MEDITATING, and realized I could overcome the anxiousness and the overthinking. I went down the spirituality rabbit hole and that led me to neuroplasticity, breathwork, binaural beats, and learning about the reticular activating system and nervous system regulation. I even found a breathwork certification online and became certified in XPT Performance Breathing. Through all my research, reading, podcasts, and audibles I was introduced to Wim Hof who is known on social media as the ICE MAN. Wim's story is compelling and his pain became his purpose. To train you to become more RESILIENT to the daily stress you experience through BREATH. If you are ready to jump in let's figure out your BOLT score. Determining Your BOLT Score Body Oxygen Level Test (Bolt) which determines how quickly do you get breathless during physical activity. Even think about how quickly you become breathless when taking a flight of stairs and you consider yourself in great shape, but you can still gas out quickly. Directions: Make sure you are in a seated position and in a safe space. Normal breath in through the nose. Normal breath out through the nose. Then pinch the nose. Set your stopwatch on your phone, watch, or other device When you feel the first indication to breath release your nose and go back to breathing normally. A low BOLT score of 10 seconds means you will gas out sooner during physical activity A high BOLT score of 30 seconds or greater means you have good breathing technique As you apply breathwork in your daily routine and begin to regulate your breathing dysfunction you will increase your CO2 tolerance and increase your BOLT score. Which means less breathlessness or gassing out early in a workout!

06 Sep 2022Ep. 4 Change Your Story 00:03:49

Tony Robbins famous quote, "Change your thoughts, change your life". An important aspect of that quote is understanding that you are not your thoughts. Another quote, "No one will choose you unless you choose you!" Take a look at the people in your life. How are they showing up in your life? Are they givers? Takers? How do they make your nervous system feel? Anxious, Stressed, or Angry? Sad, Frustrated, or Depressed? We need to pay attention to HOW people make you FEEL. What is one thing you can do today to change your relationships? Do you need to set a healthy boundary with an intrusive parent? Do you feel unseen, unheard, and unappreciated by your spouse? If you're single, are you dating the same type of person over and over again? This applies to our friendships and co-workers as well. Your relationships have the power to impact your STORY in a POSITIVE or negative way. Those relationships can also keep you from moving the needle FORWARD in your own life! If you are ready to set HEALTHY boundaries and start saying NO to what no longer serves you then let's start rewriting your story! How do we rewrite our story? 1. Pattern Recognition- What are the bad HABITS or patterns of behavior that you would like to change and why? What is this habit causing you to experience? If you were to change that habit how would that make you feel? Once you recognize what you would like to change the next question is what will replace that bad habit? When I stopped smoking, I first used gum to help kick the bad habit and eventually worked my way through the bad habit and was able to stop chewing gum as well. 2. Journal - Journaling is an important piece of rewriting your story. When you write things down it sends different signals to the brain and solidifies the content of the information. While journaling you can talk about how you feel and how you would like to feel as well as the difficulties you are experiencing. As you write out the negative feelings it will feel like you are releasing them from your heart. 3. Prepare for the Worst! - As you write your new story, wire in new habits, and set healthy boundaries the people in your life will begin to test and reject your new narrative. Your friends that smoke will offer you that cigarette. Your family members will tell you to go ahead and have that slice of cake even though you already told them you are on a diet and need their support. Understand, they aren't doing this intentionally, but they can't break their own habits and it seems harsh but if you have never made changes before, they may not believe you can do it. Please know it has nothing to do with you and everything to do with their own limited mindset and beliefs. They simply don't believe they can do it so you can't either.

07 Sep 2022Ep. 5 Raising Your Vibration00:08:17

Welcome to Day 5! Raising Your Vibration can be confusing at first with all the chaos going on in your life right now and sound out of balance or alignment but let's break it down a little further. “Everything is ENERGY and that is all there is to it. Match the FREQUENCY of the reality you want, and you cannot help but get that REALITY. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics” ~Albert Einstein. I believe that we are all ENERGY and that everything in our life has a DOMINANT VIBRATION. Your dominant vibration is the way you think, act, and feel most often. Ask yourself, what do you think of the most? Worry Fear Anxiousness Uncertainty / Doubt Anger When you CHANGE your PERSPECTIVE and begin to see yourself as an INFINITE being having a limited human experience it sets you FREE from your current state of feeling STUCK. You have been given an OPPORTUNITY to be here on this Earth for a FINITE amount of time. YOU get to CHOOSE how you spend that time daily! Sadly, many of us ALLOW our thoughts, feelings, and emotions to be tied to things that are outside of us and it's those ENERGETIC ties that keep us feeling stuck and powerless. A great example of being in a HIGH VIBRATIONAL state is going to the beach. Imagine walking up to the beach entrance from the hot concrete sidewalk and hitting the sand for the first time. You can feel the soft hot sand in between your toes and as your feet begin to sink further into the sand you can feel how cool it is just beneath the surface. Now, walk down to the shoreline where you can hear the waves crashing just a short distance away from you. The seagulls are flying above you letting out their high-pitched call and you close your eyes and allow the waves to slowly creep up and over your feet. The water is cool and refreshing and as the water is pulled back into the ocean you can feel your worries, fears, and anxiety being pulled away with it. You have just moved from your sympathetic nervous system of fight, flight, or freeze into your parasympathetic nervous system of rest, digest, and heal. Any time you need a reminder of a CALMING experience you can always move into your imagination or VISUALIZATION and allow yourself to feel that experience in the NOW! This is also an opportunity to begin to write a new story. While visualizing, allow the emotions to come up for you and wash them away each time the ocean creeps slowly over your feet and pulls the negativity away. This is you LETTING GO of what no longer serves you! Top 10 Ways to Raise Your Vibration 1. Gratitude - Showing gratitude for all things in your life. Knowing that everything is temporary, and that people will be a lesson or a blessing in your life, be thankful for both! 2. Service to Self / Service to Others - This is great when you struggle to find PURPOSE, but you have to determine what you need. When you serve yourself, you are looking to improve areas of your life and focus inward which allows you to also serve others in return. When you are your best self the people in your life get to benefit and receive all you have to offer to them. You become the LIGHT. 3. Food & Alcohol - This is always a difficult subject but lean into eating foods that make you feel good and don't be afraid to ask for help from a professional who can help you achieve your goals. Limiting or eliminating alcohol will greatly improve so many different areas in your life to include the way you think, act, feel, and even your sleeping patterns. 4. Fitness / Go for a Walk - A daily fitness routine or simply going for walk will make massive improvements in your life. A 10-minute walk daily is good for you, cardio vascularly, and will help you RESET your mindset. If you are feeling stressed or having a mental block a 10-minute walk has the POWER to give you the reset that you need! 5. Forgiveness / Setting Boundaries - Forgiveness of self and others! When you forgive the past, you allow yourself to start living in the PRESENT. Add setting healthy boundaries for yourself and others and you will feel like you are in alignment with your highest self. It takes time to get here, and no one is perfect with it, but forgiveness will set you free! 6. Say NO to Negativity! - It feels near impossible to escape the negativity in the world but know that you have control over what you choose to CONSUME daily in books, television, podcasts, and music. When you start listening to "feel-good" music you will automatically feel a change in your nervous system. When you limit television and listen to podcasts that are supportive of personal development you begin to RAISE YOUR VIBRATION. If you haven't taken a news or social media break, I highly suggest giving this a try. Sometimes you have to disconnect to reconnect with yourself. I can tell you from personal experience that taking a break from the news had a massive impact on the way I viewed myself! 7. Live, Love, Laugh - Live the life you love. When you are living in your goals, standards, and values you will feel CONNECTED to yourself and others. Add a little laughter daily and you won't feel as stressed as you usually do. As they say, laughter is the best medicine and science is showing that it is true! 8. Meditation & Breathwork - Joe Dispenza has some of my favorite 15-minute meditations that you can use daily. In just a few minutes a day, you can bring yourself back to your emotional CENTER. A daily breathwork practice has the power to increase your energy, eliminate brain fog, and give you power over your nervous system when practiced regularly. 9. High Vibe People - You are the sum of the TOP 5 PEOPLE you spend your time with, and it is easy to get defensive when this statement gets made because we want to stick up for the people in our lives, but you have to ask yourself if those same people are getting you closer to or further away from your goals. Start asking yourself how the people in your life make you feel. They may even be great people but are more of a distraction from your goals and they don't support you in the way you need it. Stop settling for good when you can have great. It doesn't mean you have to leave them behind, but you can limit the time you spend with people who aren't GROWTH ORIENTED. 10. Empathy & Kind Candor - In Gary Vee's book 12 1/2 he speaks of EMPATHY in the workplace and other areas of your life. It's the ability to understand and feel what another person is feeling. When you realize everyone is fighting an unknown battle internally you begin to exercise a little more compassion. Kind Candor is being able to have tough conversations with people while exercising kindness. How can you tell someone something that needs to be fixed about their work, attitude, or productivity but do it in a way that allows you to stay within your values and boundaries.

08 Sep 2022Ep. 6 Beginner Meditation00:03:17

If you are new to MEDITATION, I want you to know that you don't need any fancy new tools, equipment, or candles but I can tell you as you become more COMFORTABLE you will see the benefit of having a cushion, candle, and some high vibration music or your favorite YouTube meditation. I cannot link a meditation in here because the link keeps changing due to copyright but if you look up 15 Minute Morning Meditation by Joe Dispenza you should be ablet to find it on YouTube. As the link changes I will post it in the Facebook group! What is MEDITATION good for? Here are my top reasons for meditating! Reduce Feelings of Stress - This is probably the primary reason you are willing to try meditation in the first place. You feel stressed! Reduce Feelings of Anxiousness - This is the second reason most people give meditation a try BUT you have to remain CONSISTENT with this practice to receive the maximum benefit. Improve Emotional Health - Whenever you begin a physical, mental, or emotional practice a potential natural byproduct is better emotional health. Increase Self-Awareness- Meditation gives you an opportunity to close the door on your external environment and go inward. A place where don't often feel comfortable going for long because old thoughts, feelings, and emotions pop up! Increase Mindfulness- When the mind drifts allow it to happen. Journal what is coming up for you. Over time those thoughts, feelings, and emotions will lose their impact as you allow yourself to feel the FEELINGS. Move you into your Parasympathetic Nervous System- They call this your rest, digest, and calm. This is a place we want to be able to go to whenever we have big emotions, stress, or feelings of anxiety pop up. This is a good opportunity to move into our breathwork practices. 30 Nov 2022Ep. 7 Getting Started Again with a Fitness Routine 00:08:21

In today's world there are tons of FITNESS programs out there to choose from, but it can be intimidating if you don't currently work out or have a fitness ROUTINE like running, spin class, or CrossFit but this is your opportunity to reignite your motivation, discipline, and to take your personal POWER back! The NUMBER 1 place you are going to make the biggest difference in your health and wellness is in the KITCHEN. I can tell you as a former chef who oversaw multiple kitchens in hotels, resorts, corporations and sports arenas that what you CONSUME physically, mentally, and emotionally has a direct impact on your overall health. There was period of in my life when I would eat a tube of chocolate chip cookies in one sitting, and I wouldn't think twice about it until I started having different types of health issues that led me to start QUESTIONING what was going on. Am I getting old? Is this my new way of living? How did I get here? Is there anything I can do to CHANGE this? Why do I feel sad, angry, frustrated, and depressed all the time? These thoughts, feelings, and emotions were the CATALYST in my own life that PROPELLED me into a new way of living....for a while. When you try to do too many new things at one time it is easy to become OVERWHELMED. When you become overwhelmed you go right back to the HABITS and EMOTIONS that keep you feeling STUCK because they are the most FAMILIAR. You may find yourself doing really well on a diet plan but two weeks in you have a semi-significant life event that totally derails your progress, and this is when the negative self-talk starts. It happened again, I never finish anything, I can't do this, this is too hard, or the most difficult to overcome, "I give up!" This is why it's important to start slow and build on your new HABITS. As you CREATE and CELEBRATE your small WINS each day you become more confident, capable, and believe that you can ACCOMPLISH whatever your next goal is. You are now developing RESILIENCE and EMOTIONAL FORTITUDE in the face of doing hard things! CONGRATULATIONS! Right now, is a great OPPORTUNITY to take an inventory of your cabinets. With your current KNOWLEDGE and experience what type of foods do you think are problematic for you? If you are unsure, take a week or two and write down everything that you eat in a day to include your portion size. This will help create AWARENESS around what type of food you eat but I also want you to write down what you are FEELING in that moment. I know exactly what I was FEELING and what I was going through when I turned to the tube of cookies but more on FOOD RELATIONSHIPS later in the program. A great way to START back into a fitness routine is by walking! I know it sounds stupid simple because it is. You don't have to buy any equipment except a solid pair of shoes, and you are on your way. Eventually you will start doing research on zero platform shoe and the benefits of spending more time BAREFOOT. That is definitely worth a Google search! For now, let's focus on the basics and WALK it out!

26 Feb 2023Ep. 9 Finding Purpose00:03:06

5 Steps to Finding Purpose Understand yourself: Take time to reflect on your beliefs, emotions, and past experiences. Journaling and meditation can be helpful tools to gain a deeper understanding of yourself. A great question to start with is, "Who am I?" Hint: You are more than your job or family title. Identify your highest self: Think about the person you want to become and what qualities and characteristics define that person. Make a conscious effort to work towards becoming that person. Identify your values: Determine what is truly important to you and align your actions and relationships with those values. Seek out supportive relationships: Surround yourself with people who support and align with your goals and values. Continuously seek knowledge and inspiration: Reading books, listening to podcasts, and taking courses on personal development can provide valuable insights and tools to help guide your journey towards finding your purpose. 27 Feb 2023Ep. 10 Letting GO!00:03:54

Letting go is a process that can be difficult, but it's necessary for growth and healing. It's important to understand that letting go does not mean forgetting or dismissing the past, but rather accepting and moving forward.

Understand your pain is a message that is often never confronted. We tend to ignore or suppress the emotions and situations that we believe is causing the pain. However, pain also keeps us safe, think about touching a hot stove with your right hand and you'll have a physical response just from me talking about it. Try seeing your pain a guide in your life that is there to help you navigate difficult situations. It's a warning sign that something isn't right and needs to be confronted, challenged, changed, or overcome.

It's time to start letting go of what no longer serves you. It's time to acknowledge the pain exists and where it comes from. It's time to accept that you cannot change the past but you no longer have to live there.

It's time to embrace the present and co-create your future.

27 Feb 2023Ep. 11 Love and Attachment00:06:41

All we need is love, right? In modern dating things have gotten really interesting. I recently scanned the dating apps and saw A LOT of really familiar faces. I very quickly deleted the apps because that style of connection doesn't resonate with me and never really has. As I've done the inner work and took the deep dive into personal development and relationship dynamics, I quickly had a realization that changed the way I viewed starting relationships or rather it brought me back to my goals, values, and standards for a relationship with me and what that actually looks like. I was a teenager in the late 1900's and we did things like talk on the phone and had to wait a week to see each other with no conversation in between. Can you imagine!!! Not having any connection from the time, you set a date to the time you had the date??? That's unheard of today. Instead, we text 24 / 7 and have whole conversations all the while creating the meaning behind those messages in our heads. You don't even know this person yet. It gives a false sense of intimacy and closeness, but it's built off of your own emotions and meaning. We have lost the art of connection. So many people now will avoid a phone call because it makes them feel a certain way but THAT is connection! They prefer to text, private message, chat, or snap but the emotion that brings up isn't real. That's emotion you are assigning to that experience and that person based on your past experiences. They make you laugh via a meme that they didn't create or put any effort into, yet we will create the story about that person in our heads that they are funny. The meme is funny, they may end up only being slightly funny, or even not funny at all! They just know what makes them laugh and thought it would make you laugh as well. So in a way, you are connecting, and they acknowledge what is funny to you but still there is low to no effort being exerted. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Do you know your goals, values, and standards for a relationship? Have you taken the time to write down what you are looking for? Have you take the time to do the inner work so you can become ALL of those things yourself? A few key takeaways to remember Your attachment style isn't fixed. You can heal your attachment style Professional help, coaching, and other modalities are available to help you heal Take what resonates with you and leave what doesn't The key to healing is Self-Love, learning to trust yourself, and learning to let go of what no longer serves you! 19 Mar 2023Ep. 12 Law of Attraction - Introduction00:03:09

The concept of the Law of Attraction, as presented in the movie "The Secret" and the book "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill, suggests that our thoughts and intentions can influence the experiences and outcomes in our lives. It's the idea that we are like a magnet and attract into our lives what we are currently being. It's the way we think, act, and feel or our emotional setpoint. It the difference of seeing things as happening to you (Victim mindset) or happening for you (Take the lesson.) It's the words that we use with ourselves daily and how we tell the story of our lives to ourselves and to others. Although this idea may be seen as unconventional, it can still have a positive impact on one's mental and emotional well-being. Just like a magnet, our thoughts, actions, and emotions can attract or repel certain experiences. When we have positive thoughts and good intentions, we are more open to receiving what the world has to offer. This can lead to a happier, lighter vibration and a greater chance of attracting the things we want in life. However, many of us tend to focus on what we don't want, leading to negative emotions such as doubt, worry, and anxiety. To overcome this hurdle, it's important to focus on the lessons of past experiences and to ask yourself "Why not me?" instead of dwelling on negative outcomes. Keep in mind that the Law of Attraction is not a linear path and there will be ups and downs. It doesn't make you immune to negative experiences but by doing the work you certainly become more resilient. By responding positively to difficult situations and asking how you can do better next time, you can open yourself up to new opportunities and better outcomes. Remember that the universe may have something even better in store for you, even if it's not exactly what you had planned. Allow yourself to be focused more on the moment than a particular outcome that you desire. If you focus too much on the outcome and it doesn't work out the way you wanted it, you may miss the gift that particular moment gave you. 19 Mar 2023Ep. 13 Limiting Beliefs Be Gone! 00:04:25

5 Tips to Overcome the Fear of Rejection Practice mindfulness and breathwork to take control of your nervous system and reduce the fear of rejection. Challenge and change your limiting beliefs about yourself and rejection. Start small by initiating conversations with people you're comfortable with, and gradually building up to more challenging interactions. Take ownership of your emotions and understand that rejection is not a reflection of your self-worth. Learn to detach from the outcome of a situation and focus on the process of what led up to it. We all have a fear of rejection in some area of our life, but we can overcome it by taking control of our nervous system through breathwork and by not being so attached to the outcome of a situation. It's important to remember that rejection is not a reflection of our self-worth, but rather a result of our attachment style and limiting beliefs. To practice overcoming the fear of rejection, try starting small by striking up a conversation with a cashier or someone you find interesting such as a mentor and take those interactions as a win even though it made you feel uncomfortable! As you do this more often, you'll feel empowered and gain confidence. Additionally, it's important to understand that rejection can be an opportunity for healing and growth, and it's not your job to convince someone of who you are. It's also important to remember that when someone leaves a relationship, it's not always a reflection on you, but rather an opportunity for them to heal their own unhealed trauma. How to overcome your limiting beliefs Start by becoming aware of the thoughts, feelings, and beliefs that are holding you back. What are they? Write them down. Once you've identified your limiting beliefs, take a step back and ask yourself if this is even true? What supporting evidence do you have for that? Once you've had the opportunity to digest your self-evaluation you can reframe the limiting belief of "I'm not enough" and reframe it to "I'm capable of amazing things." Be kind...to yourself! Give yourself grace and practice self-compassion. It's time to wire in new beliefs by counteracting the old ones with positive self-talk. Inventory your friend group. Who is in support of your goals, dreams, and desires? Do you feel supported in your friend group or with your family? Do you need to limit time with the people who bring you down? 17 Apr 2023Ep. 14 Redefining Masculinity00:09:51

Welcome to today's episode of the Blueprint podcast I'm your host, Jason Smith, if you haven't already make sure you click the subscribe button and share the podcast with your friends on social media and tag me in it @jbirdfit.

Today we're going to delve into an important topic: Redefining Masculinity but we are going to talk about it minus all the additional labels like toxic or positive.

I think that we have overcomplicated the topic of masculinity and that we already inherently know most of the answers that social media is asking but we are afraid to say it out loud for fear of being judged, rejected, or ostracized on social media.

There is a “victim mentality” culture out there that is growing on social media BUT it’s only on social media. When you go out into the real world these same discussions aren’t happening. The past several times I’ve gone out to dinner I’m seeing more and more men in community and supporting one other.

On my dating content you all keep asking, where have all the good men gone. Welp, they are apparently having dinner with each other, building, growing, expanding and learning from each other. When I go to jujitsu, we are focused on connecting the dots, completing reps, cultivating friendship through sportsmanship, and doing something difficult, something that many of us have never done before.

You have people from all different backgrounds, skills, and abilities who are there to complete a mission. We have an hour together where we work, we sweat, we challenge ourselves and each other, and we learn. No one puts anyone else down because at some point, we all started out as white belts and I’m one of them.

So, do we need to redefine masculinity so everyone feels included or do we need to display what masculinity looks like in the real world so others can be inspired by the work it takes to have self-mastery.

After watching a YouTube short from @vice on YouTube They had a group of men discussing some key points about the “masculinity crisis” and what that actually means to them. Fully believing that masculinity has to be redefined and that none of them really had any idea or direction how to do so.

Side note: If you aren’t reading books on personal development, psychology, finances, and spirituality. You will find yourself in the same spot as these guys. You give yourself the things that you know that you lack. This is self-mastery. No one can do that for you nor will they.

One man stated we are just our here trying to be whoever we are. And there it is. You don't know who YOU are!

This group of men brought up the concept or experience of generational trauma (the be a man / big boys don't cry) and this trauma is being exposed and healed which is a key element to healing the greater collective and is work that we should all be exploring on different levels, and I say different levels because we are all going through and experiencing things differently but in real time with our own levels of awareness and understanding. When you understand that, you can begin to step back and realize that what someone else is experiencing doesn't have to be a fundamental threat to you or an attack on your world view but that's a conversation for another time because it's deeply nuanced.

Another man stated that we don't know how to define where we are supposed to be. This comes from parents being taken out of the homes, constantly working to provide and consume, but not able to meet the emotional needs and support that each child requires. I know, in good faith, all the parents are out there doing the best they can, but we often compensate with material things when in reality your child needs a deeper connection with you. Not as a friend, but as a parent who has their back and is prepared to guide and mentor them towards emotional regulation, co-regulation, and cultivating trusted connections by sharing your base knowledge with them. How to navigate the difficult terrain that is modern society. How to think and make sense of the world and their environment. Not just give them an ipad or a gaming console to occupy their time because you, yourself, feel overwhelmed.

Understand, you can only impart knowledge that you have learned, gained by doing, and practiced in real time consistently.

Does masculinity need to be redefined?

Here are 9 ways you can display masculine traits using a multifaceted approach. There is no one magic pill answer that applies to everyone but here is the basics.

Dr. Jordan Peterson Quote: “A Harmless man isn’t a good man. A good man is a dangerous man who has everything under voluntary control.”

What we really have is an epidemic of men who never learned how to manage or regulate their emotions, how to build healthy relationships with their partners because of what was modeled to them as children, understanding attachment styles as a means of cultivating better relationships, and respecting yourself enough to do the work. There is no easy button. We are here to improve upon ourselves daily and help lift each other up and protect those who are unable to do so for themselves.

1 Authenticity: Embrace who you are as an individual and avoid conforming to societal or cultural expectations of masculinity. Be true to yourself and strive to express your thoughts, feelings, and beliefs genuinely.

2 Emotional intelligence: Develop the ability to recognize, understand, and manage your emotions, while recognizing that someone else’s big emotions aren’t yours to take personally. Practice healthy communication skills and learn to read people and situations for what they really are.

3 Self-care: Take care of your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. This includes regular exercise, healthy eating, proper sleep, and managing stress effectively. Prioritize self-care as an essential part of your daily routine.

4 Respect for others: Treat others with kindness, empathy, and respect. Remember, you give your power away when you let someone else bother you, they control you now. Only you have an impact on how you think, act, and feel.

5 Healthy relationships: Build and maintain healthy relationships by building a great relationship with yourself. Develop self-confidence by giving yourself evidence of success. When you take care of you, you are more capable of taking care of those you love. Understanding attachment styles is a big part of developing healthy relationships.

6 Responsibility and accountability: Take responsibility for your actions and choices. Own up to your mistakes, learn from them. You didn’t fail, you gained the necessary knowledge to succeed.

7 Pursuit of goals and passions: Set and pursue meaningful goals and interests that align with your values and passions. Cultivate a sense of purpose and strive for personal growth and self-improvement daily. Read books.

8 Supportive: Be supportive of other in their pursuits. They aren’t your competition. Be the kind of person who wants to see other people win. Let go of that scarcity mindset.

9 Resilience and adaptability: Develop resilience and adaptability to cope with challenges, setbacks, and changes. Start a daily practice of breathwork as a means of regulating your emotional state and generating resilience.

What does that look like? A Physiological sigh. Two inhales in and a long exhale out. You’re welcome.

29 Jun 2023Ep.28 Journaling and Knowing You Can Do More00:04:31

In today’s episode we discuss The Daily Stoic Journal and pieces of My Story of Resilience

If you’re not familiar with the daily stoic journal this a great opportunity to get acquainted with journaling, managing your mind, and cultivating emotional resilience.

So what is it? Written by Ryan Holiday and Stephen Hanselman the Daily Stoic Journal is 366 days of writing and reflection on the art of living.

The journal provides you with 52 stoic disciplines or practices, one for each week of the year and the authors provide a little guidance on the significance and application of those practices and follow it up with quotes from the Stoics.

What stoics you may ask? Seneca, Epictetus, Diogenes, and Marcus Aurelius

I first started using this journal and it’s prompts on September 29th, 2021. I was physically and mentally going through a difficult time with two injuries that resulted in shoulder surgery and on-going neck pain that I’m still dealing with today.

This isn’t a a poor me story, if you’ve seen my home gym then you know I’m in it every day and will keep working to regain mobility in my neck, but this is a part of my story of resilience.

The daily stoic journal helped guide from a place of why this is happening to me to everything is happening for me.

You see, without that injury, I never would have created a platform on social media where I help others build a better relationship with themselves so they can have the types of relationships with others that they desire.

Here’s the funny part, I had no idea how to journal. It’s true, you hear me talk about how wonderful it is but like you I procrastinated using this tool because I didn’t understand it’s value or how to use it effectively. So I looked online and searched for videos on how to journal, benefits of journaling, best ways to journal, and the answer was always the same in the few videos I found. There is no right way, you just start.

The year prior I had a gratitude journal that I struggled with because I was unable to tap into any other parts of me, so it quickly became, I have gratitude for my dog Chloe, my house, my home gym, the opportunities I’ve been given, air.

The daily stoic offered something different. It tapped into my thoughts, feelings, and emotions. The first journal prompt was on September 29th and it goes like this “Where are my eyes bigger than my stomach?”

I didn’t know what to write so I put that I had physical therapy and went to Panera for coffee and a bagel but that quickly shifted into my role as a police officer was fun and fed a part of my chaotic soul until I began unlearning decades of negative emotional programming.

A shift happened in my writing, and I tuned into or attuned to my inner being, that inner knowing, that piece of me that was dormant for so long that I felt emotionally closed off to the world around me. What came out on the page was it’s time to start growing again, to stop living small, and what I was doing for a career isn’t small, but I had an inner knowing that I could and should be doing more to help others.

Inside the daily stoic underneath the daily prompt, you have space for a morning and evening reflection. My evening reflection that night was an experience I had earlier in the day where group think was of guilt, fear, shame, rumor and gossip. I easily could have been pulled into it but I stepped back and reminded myself that is outside of me, (None of my business) I cannot control how others react, but I can control how I respond and what emotions I absorb from others.

The mantra for that evening I created for myself was Breathe, Be Free, and Let Go!

02 Aug 2023Ep. 34 Break Free From The Anxious & Avoidant Trap00:08:49

Make sure you sign up for the 21 Day Self-Love Challenge 5 Part Introductory Series in my Stan store linked below!

https://stan.store/Jbirdfit

In this week's episode we are going to discuss how to break free from the anxious and avoidant trap and find people who are more emotionally available.

Question: Since I came across your videos, I often find myself thinking about how to break free from the anxious cycle that plagues my relationships. I make an effort to be clear about my expectations and communicate them openly with my partner, but despite these efforts, things often don't work out due to differing expectations. If this pattern persists, I wonder how I can overcome it and find people to date who are not avoidant.

So let’s talk about how to break free from the anxious cycle in relationships and find people who are emotionally available.

I’m going to get this out of the way, and I feel like it goes without saying. Seek Professional Help Consider seeking therapy or counseling to work through your attachment issues with the guidance of a trained professional. Therapy can provide valuable insights and tools to help you navigate relationships more effectively. Now that everyone feels better because I said that understand that when you are in the comment section telling people you don’t know to go to therapy it’s a bad look for you. Take the time to consider that not everyone has access to therapy, can afford therapy, or resonates with therapy. So for everyone else, there is self-education and personal development which is also very valid and ultimately very empowering.

You can also get a jump start on cultivating self-love by signing up for my 21 Day Self-Love Challenge Introductory Short Course in my Stan store. It’s 5 short videos on the pillars of self-love and a great way to get introduced to some ideas and concepts that you may not have considered yet. At the end of that is a special offer.

What are the steps in finding a more emotionally available partner?

A big first step is cultivating self-awareness and taking time to reflect on your attachment style and past relationship patterns. What did your past relationships not only look like in terms of patterning but what did they feel like to you? Were you under high stress and anxiety that made you feel like you had lost yourself within the confines of this relationship? Understanding the origins of your anxious attachment and recognizing how it affects your interactions and how you relate with others is a massive step in your journey.

Develop Self-Confidence Build your esteem by learning to make yourself a priority again or for the first time. You may have spent your entire life trying to do things for others as a means of being liked by them. All the while never asking yourself if you even liked them, they way they treat you, or the way they talk to you. So ask yourself, do I even really like this person and why? What do you admire about them? How does your body feel around them? How do you feel when you’re apart? Engage in activities that make you feel good about yourself and challenge self-doubt. Get outside and move your body and remember that you can always take a walk with me! Life weights, do some yoga, chi gong, pilates, or whatever resonates with you but get moving! A simple 20 minute walk with focuses breathing has the power to change your entire day and you can compound that over time. Lean into your hobbies and interests. Those things that you were once able to get lost in for hours that were abandoned for others.

Understand it’s not only ok but necessary to learn to ask for what you want. So, Set Clear Expectations and Identify your needs in a relationship. Communicate them openly and honestly with potential partners to ensure alignment and avoid misunderstandings. It’s also important to mention here to not date someone’s future potential but see them for who they are in this moment. They may never become the person you are picturing in your head of who they will be to you in the future so ask yourself. If they never change, can I love this person as they are today 50 years from now?

A common question that get’s asked….Can you Recognize Avoidant Behavior?  My answer, kinda. You can Educate yourself on avoidant attachment traits and behaviors but here is the caveat to that. Who are you being right now? Are you the most secure version of yourself you’ve ever been or do you already feel butterflies, excitement, and find yourself over thinking everything they say or do while planning for future events and ignoring poor behavior in the present moment that makes you even more anxious and waiting for your phone to light up or ding with the next text message so you can feel seen, heard, loved, and understood but then needing more text messages and attention because you constantly worry if they are going to reject or abandon you not realizing this is the behavior that can lead even secure people to become slightly avoidant and is the self-fulfilling prophecy. So, it goes back to self-awareness. How do you show up in relationships? Can you take ownership of that and recognize that your behavior contributes to potentially negative outcomes in your relationships?

Healthy Boundaries Learn to set and enforce healthy boundaries in your relationships. Boundaries create a sense of safety and respect, fostering more secure connections. This is going to have to be another video on it’s own but do you know your goals, values, standards, and boundaries for a relationship with you can do you honor all of that or allow people to occasionally cross a boundary? There will be time for compromise but that is something that is communicated clearly. When we allow others to bypass our boundaries they will lose respect for you and do it over and over again leaving you feeling less than.

Take Things Slow Allow relationships to develop naturally and resist rushing into commitments. Give yourself time to assess compatibility and emotional availability. This is really the key. What pace do you set for relationships? IF you date people who are in alignment with your goals, values, and standards then setting a pace should be relatively simple. It’s the people who don’t respect that who aren’t for you and sometimes we slip into trying to prove ourselves to keep someone who hits a lot of our preferences but you didn’t realized that if you held your boundary you would get what you want or they would leave and what is for you would come in for you. I also imagine a no is saying yes to something else I just don’t know what that is yet.

Learn from Past Experiences Take lessons from past relationships and use them to grow. Analyze what worked and what didn't, and make adjustments accordingly. Instead of seeing things as happening to you, or this always happens, or I always date avoidants, just learn to extract the lesson. Don’t take it personally. Know what’s for you is waiting for you to learn the lesson so you can level up or rise up to meet them. Imagine if that’s all you really had to do. Take the lesson, assess it, learn from it, grow from it, and not take it personally while knowing what’s for you hasn’t found you yet because you have a little work to do before you can actually see it. Sometimes, it’s going to be what was always right in front of you and other times it’s just right around the next lesson, the next corner. You’re closer than you think.

Remember, breaking free from an anxious attachment pattern is a journey, and finding a secure partner requires effort and self-awareness. You have to Stay committed to personal growth, and with time, you can develop healthier, more fulfilling relationships.

03 Aug 2023Ep. 35 Will the Avoidant Realize they are Half the Problem? 00:07:24

https://stan.store/Jbirdfit

Welcome to the blueprint podcast where we throw old the old blueprint so you can become who you were always meant to be. I’m your host, Jason Smith, and if you haven’t already make sure you click the subscribe button and share this episode with your friends on social media and tag me in it @jbirdfit.

In this week's episode we are going to answer a really common question the anxious attacher often asks, Does the avoidant ever recognize they were half of the problem?

My quick answer is, why does it matter to you?

Unless you are still with this person there is nothing more for you to try to understand about this relationship. You’ve already exhausted everything there is to talk about through text message arguments and elevated emotions. This person gave you no additional information because they are currently working from their subconscious and don’t have the emotional capacity in this moment to see what you see or to see things from your perspective. You want a reason why, you want closure, you want clarity, but what you really want to know is what you did wrong to cause this because it must be your fault, everything is your fault, but what if I told you, you didn’t do anything wrong, you weren’t bad, you’re not being punished, there nothing to fight for, and nothing is being taken away from you. Although it may feel exactly like that. What if, it’s something that’s going on inside of the other person and the way you present yourself and relate to them in relationships triggers their attachment system. When that happens their emotional capacity is greatly diminished, and they default to old patterns and coping mechanisms which is to pull away to be and feel safe? What if this wasn’t about you? Can you accept that? Can you make peace with that? What is it about this relationship that makes you desire to stay in it when your needs aren’t being met and you feel crazy trying to understand what’s happening, what you did wrong, and how can you fix it?

I commend you for being able to recognize that something isn’t going well in the relationship and that you have a desire to work to solve whatever the problem is. That’s very healthy and shows you already have honed some skills that are necessary to create interdependence within a relationship. So, celebrate that win!

Recognizing one's role in relationship issues can be challenging for anyone, including avoidant individuals. However, it is possible for avoidant individuals to become more aware of their contribution to relationship difficulties with time, self-reflection, and personal growth. Did you catch that? It means they have to be willing to do the work. It takes two in a relationship to bring resolution to issues, problems, and conflicts but they have to be a willing participant and you both have to be willing to take ownership and create neutrality around a subject to bring resolution and no the relationship isn’t over just because you had a disagreement.

The Avoidant attachment style is characterized by a tendency to distance oneself emotionally from others to avoid intimacy and vulnerability. Intimacy is one of the avoidants greatest fears that often stems from someone close to them (caregiver) breaking trust with the avoidant thus solidifying at a young age that the avoidant can and has to take care of themselves because no one else is going to do it. Care was inconsistent or non-existent. This distancing behavior can lead to difficulties in forming close and secure connections with partners. In some cases, avoidant individuals may struggle to acknowledge their role in relationship problems because they tend to prioritize self-reliance and independence because again, trust was broken. This is often a subconscious reaction, and they often can’t articulate what they are experiencing other than, overwhelm caused by another person. Step away from the person, overwhelm goes away, when overwhelm goes away they will reach back out again.

However, as people gain self-awareness through introspection or through the help of therapy or counseling, they can become more attuned to their attachment style and its impact on their relationships. With increased understanding, avoidant individuals may start to recognize how their emotional distancing and fear of intimacy affect their partners and the overall dynamics of the relationship. This is key for all of us who have an insecure attachment style. There is some inner work to do that it starts with the awareness of you, the individual, not the awareness of the other person so you blame them, tell them they need therapy, text them relationships memes all day, and give them books to read because they are broken and deficient. You might mean well, but the message and overarching theme you’re telling them is, you’re not good enough, you’re not good enough for me, and I’m disgusted and repulsed by you and your behavior. Again, for many this is subconscious and not intentional, but it may feel that way for you. This is why self-awareness and neutrality are so important. And why you, working on you, is really the path for cultivating relationships in the way you desire instead of trying to change someone so you can like them.

It's important to note that personal growth is a gradual process, and some individuals may require more time and support to come to terms with their attachment patterns. It’s really difficult to take a good look in the mirror and be ok with what you see. Good, bad, or indifferent. Additionally, the willingness to recognize and take responsibility for one's actions in relationships can vary from person to person. Some avoidant individuals may be more open to self-reflection, while others may find it more difficult to confront their emotional challenges. You have to accept that the avoidant may never be ready to face their emotional challenges and that is when you ask yourself. Can I love this person as they are now knowing their emotional capacity for love and intimacy if they never change. Can I work through that for the rest of my life?

Ultimately, building healthier and more secure relationships often involves a combination of self-awareness, personal growth, and open communication with partners. If an avoidant individual is willing to work on themselves and their attachment style, there is a possibility for positive change and improved relationship dynamics. However, this transformation usually requires dedication and a genuine desire to create more fulfilling connections with others.

John Kim, LMFT, is also known as The Angry Therapist — a published writer, speaker, host of his popular podcast, The Angry Therapist Podcast, and co-founder of Lumia–Life Coach Training and Community. John's books include; I Used to Be a Miserable F*ck, Single on Purpose, and It's Not Me It's You!

Follow him on Instagram at @theangrytherapist.

Meet him here and everything he does: linktr.ee/theangrytherapist.

John Kim is the author of best-sellers I Used To Be A Miserable F*ck and Single. On Purpose.

As he was going through an expired relationship, John created a blog on Tumblr and titled his first post “My Fucking Feelings.” He named his blog "The Angry Therapist" and started documenting his journey post-divorce. Even though he was a licensed therapist, John chose not to present himself that way. He preferred the language of “me too” as opposed to “you should.” He blogged about his shortcomings, revelations, and views on relationships, the self-help business, and the world. He found CrossFit, bought a motorcycle, and started coaching people in unconventional ways.

Through this process, he came up with his own concepts. But most importantly, he took a very different approach, once frowned upon by the rigid and antiquated therapy world. He practiced transparency. People keep asking him why he calls himself "The Angry Therapist." His reply: It’s my way of saying I’m human.

John’s path has led him to become a pioneer in the self-help field, rebranding from stigmatized to sexy. He is an entrepreneur, published author, public speaker, teacher, and a raw, unique voice that resonates in deep places with all whose paths he crosses.

The Angry Therapist has become greater than just John Kim. Today, it is a place to find support no matter where you are or what you’re going through. It’s a place where definitions of our common human struggles are based largely on experiencing life and allowing it to break and heal us. This is very different from labels applied by learning about suffering in textbooks. It is a growing team of therapists and life coaches all over the world- practicing transparency, living as the truest versions of themselves, continually growing, and, in this process, becoming Catalysts. It is also a school teaching this new way of helping others and supporting them in that journey. It is a thriving community unlike any other. The Angry Therapist is a lifestyle.

16 Mar 2024Ep. 63 The Antares Society: Coaching for Men00:04:06

As a former police officer turned self-love coach, I've witnessed firsthand the struggles that many men face when it comes to forming secure attachments and embracing their true selves. From fear of vulnerability to a longing for deeper connections, the need for a supportive community became increasingly apparent to me.

That's why I decided to create a men's group centered around fostering secure attachment styles and authenticity called The Antares Society. On new years even 2023 I was hit with this overwhelming desire and need to put this community together. So I hopped the Internet started searching for group names that would encapsulate the mission and the vision of The Antares Society.

I looked for synonyms for a collective because I wanted the group to have a spiritual connection but didn’t want it to sound too woo woo that  men were turned off by the concept. An alternative word for collective was constellation and I have always been a dreamer when it comes to the stars and all the possibilities that are out there for us so I started looking for constellation names that again were not too woo wooed and it didn’t take long and I found Antares.

Antares is the brightest star in the constellation of Scorpius often referred to as the heart of the scorpion which may have later implications for branding but not just yet. Antares in Greek also means rival to Ares. Ares being the greek god of war and courage.

The mission for the Antares society is clear: Our mission is to cultivate a brotherhood that empowers men to navigate, illuminate, and elevate their lives and relationships.

Grounded in self-awareness, accountability, and purpose, we provide a supportive space for personal growth, fostering resilience, meaningful connections, and a shared commitment to becoming the best versions of ourselves.

Through exploration, collaboration, self-awareness, curiosity and a dedication to continuous improvement, we aim to inspire each member to embrace their unique journey and contribute positively to the collective constellation of The Antares Society.

The Antares Society envisions a world where every man is equipped with the tools, skills, and insights to navigate life's challenges, illuminate his true potential, and elevate the lives of those around him.

We aspire to be a beacon of brotherhood, where self-awareness is a guiding light, accountability is the anchor, and purpose is the fuel for personal and collective success.

Through our shared experiences, unwavering support, and a commitment to lifelong learning, we envision a community of empowered men who positively impact the world, creating ripples of positive change and inspiration for generations to come.

The vision is in support of the mission:

In this group, we prioritize building trust, developing emotional regulation, and cultivating effective communication skills. We also encourage members to lean into their true selves, embrace vulnerability, and show up authentically in all areas of their lives.

I believe that by providing a safe and nurturing environment where men can explore their inner world, heal past wounds, and cultivate authentic connections, we can empower each other to live more fulfilling and meaningful lives. It's a journey of self-discovery, healing, and transformation that I'm honored to facilitate.

If you're a man who resonates with our mission, I invite you to reach out and learn more about joining our community. Together, we can embark on a journey of growth, connection, and empowerment.

12 Apr 2024Ep. 69 Operator Syndrome: Dr. Chris Frueh on Veterans, Mental Health, and Challenging the System00:41:33

Content Warning: Please be advised that the following material contains themes that may be distressing to some audiences, including discussions of mental health and violence. Viewer discretion is advised.

https://988lifeline.org/

In this insightful episode of The Blueprint Podcast, host Jason Smith welcomes Dr. Chris Frueh, a clinical psychologist and author of "Operator Syndrome." With a rich background that intersects deeply with military and veteran affairs, Frueh discusses his motivation behind writing the book and his extensive career working with veterans.

Frueh opens up about his personal connections to the military, notably through his father, a Vietnam War-era physician in the Air Force. This familial link and the prevailing presence of the Vietnam War during his formative years propelled him toward a career dedicated to helping veterans. He pursued a PhD in clinical psychology, which he completed in 1992, setting the stage for his impactful work.

Chris details his tenure at the VA medical center in Charleston, South Carolina, and his academic role at the Medical University of South Carolina. He started as a devoted clinician, primarily focused on therapy, but gradually shifted towards research after obtaining federal grants. His research raised critical questions about VA policies, particularly around disability adjudications and their implications on veteran health, particularly criticizing the blanket application of PTSD diagnoses.

Frueh shares his transition from the VA to academia, highlighting his move to the University of Hawaii in Hilo and his continued involvement with the veteran community through part-time work in Houston. Over the years, his connections expanded to include a network of "operators" — elite military personnel — from various international special operations forces.

Throughout the episode, Frueh emphasizes the unique challenges faced by these operators and discusses the concept of "Operator Syndrome," a term he coined to describe the specific and complex mental health challenges experienced by this group. He shares anecdotes from his consultations and reflects on the broader implications of his findings for mental health practices within military communities.

Jason Smith guides the conversation with thought-provoking questions that reveal the depth of Frueh's experience and the passion he has for improving the lives of those who have served their countries. This episode not only sheds light on an often-overlooked aspect of military service but also offers a deep dive into the life and work of a man dedicated to making a difference.

25 Jun 2024Ep. 81 Talia Tuesday with Talia Bombola, LMFT Avoidant vs. Narcissist 00:16:21

Episode Overview: The Blueprint Podcast with Host Jason Smith and Guest Talia Bombola, LMFT

Episode Title: Understanding the Difference Between Avoidant Attachment and Narcissism with Talia Bombola

Guest: Talia Bombola, LMFT - Every Tuesday, Talia joins us to answer questions from social media.

Overview: In this episode of The Blueprint Podcast, host Jason Smith is joined by Talia Bombola, LMFT, to delve into the nuances between avoidant attachment and narcissistic personality disorder. Talia clarifies that avoidant attachment is not a diagnosis but a response pattern rooted in childhood experiences with primary caregivers. She contrasts this with narcissistic personality disorder, a clinical diagnosis characterized by ego-syntonic traits where the individual often lacks self-awareness about the distress they cause others.

Talia explains that avoidant attachment develops when a child's needs are inconsistently met, leading to a self-reliant mindset and emotional distance from others. This attachment style is malleable and can change over time with effort and proper support.

On the other hand, narcissistic personality disorder is marked by a lack of empathy and accountability, with individuals typically unaware of their harmful behaviors. Talia highlights the difficulties in treating malignant narcissism and the potential for some individuals with narcissistic traits to seek change, albeit rare.

Jason and Talia also touch on the misconceptions proliferated on social media about narcissism and the importance of accurate diagnosis by trained professionals. They discuss the empowerment that comes from understanding one's attachment style and making conscious choices in relationships.

Key Points:

  1. Avoidant Attachment: A response pattern from inconsistent childhood caregiving, leading to self-reliance and emotional distance. It is not a clinical diagnosis and can change over time.
  2. Narcissistic Personality Disorder: A clinical diagnosis with ego-syntonic traits, lacking empathy and accountability. It is challenging to treat, especially malignant narcissism.
  3. Social Media Misconceptions: Highlighting the importance of accurate diagnosis and the misinformation prevalent on social media.
  4. Empowerment Through Understanding: Encouraging self-awareness and conscious decision-making in relationships.

Join us for an enlightening discussion that will help you navigate your relationships with greater clarity and compassion. Tune in every Tuesday for more insights from Talia Bombola on The Blueprint Podcast.

11 Sep 2024Ep. 89 The People Dis-Pleaser, Nick Pollard00:44:54

Nick Pollard, Born in April of 1980, is a world-renowned coach and speaker specializing in People Pleasing, Codependency, and Addiction. With over 50 million views on his social media channels, Nick has become a thought leader in personal growth and change. He ranks in the top 10% of coaches worldwide.

Nick had a (in his own words) less-than-ideal childhood. His father was an alcoholic, workaholic, se* abuser. The latter would later push Nick to his psychological end, which landed him in a hospital in 2009. After that, Nick struggled mightily to hold his life together but could not (or so he felt) battle the mounting demons and turned to drugs and alcohol to solve the problem. It did not solve the problem, and roughly 9 years later, a change had to be made. Nick willingly checked himself into rehab, and the PeopleDisPleaser was born. Since then, Nick has traveled the world, learning and helping others and communicating his journey. His love for seeing people grow and the "light bulb go on and then explode" is what he credits, his drive.

Nick has been very successful in business, forming and selling many companies. His first entrepreneurial venture, at age ten, was door sales for his car wash company that would later net him enough money to buy fireworks for the Fourth of July. "My parents said we did not have any money. I knew that was a lie, but I went anyway. I have made my own money since." If you ask Nick what he feels the key to success is, he would say, "Do the work. It is not fashionable or even slightly pretty. Just do the work." He enjoys walking on the beach, working out, and traveling. When he is not on the road, he spends time with his two cats, Azula and Zuko, reading, and working.

Tune in to learn how to become a vessel for infinite possibility and how to access your true creative genius.

Timestamps: 0:00 - Introduction to Cathy Heller and the themes of the episode 3:45 - Jason’s reflections on Cathy’s new book, Abundant Ever After 7:30 - What inspired Cathy to write Abundant Ever After and what she hopes readers take away from it 12:50 - Why feeling "unworthy" is a false story we’ve been conditioned to believe 18:40 - How to recognize when your ego is in control and shift to a state of flow 25:10 - The "Law of Reception" explained and how to expand your capacity to receive 30:45 - Why abundance is our natural design (and how nature reveals this truth) 37:20 - How triggers from others are actually opportunities for growth and self-reflection 43:55 - Cathy's personal journey through music, pivots in her career, and lessons on following intuition 52:15 - Why alignment impacts every part of your life, from career to relationships 58:10 - How to overcome the fear of "not being enough" and give yourself permission to thrive 1:05:45 - Why manifestation is about energy and alignment, not just "positive thinking" 1:10:20 - The power of checking in with yourself daily and setting "intention alarms" 1:16:45 - The Christmas lights story and the lesson about capacity and holding abundance 1:22:30 - The takeaway: How to begin expanding your capacity to receive abundance today 1:26:15 - How to connect with Cathy Heller and join her 21-day challenge

Key Takeaways:

  1. The Law of Reception: Abundance isn’t something you "attract" — it’s something you "receive" by expanding your capacity. Just like a light bulb’s wattage, you’re only able to hold as much energy (wealth, love, joy) as your internal circuitry allows.

  2. The Power of Flow State: When you’re aligned and in flow, everything you desire is drawn to you naturally. Flow state can be achieved by rewiring old mental programs and stepping into a mindset of limitless possibility.

  3. Triggers Are Teachers: If someone’s success triggers you, it’s an opportunity to notice what’s unresolved within yourself. Use that moment to reflect, realign, and grow.

  4. Energy Dictates Results: Your energy sets the frequency you’re tuned into, and life’s blessings (people, opportunities, and success) are drawn to that frequency. Raise your energy and watch your life shift.

  5. You Are the Wizard: Like in The Wizard of Oz, you are the one with the power to shift your reality. No one is coming to "save" you — you have everything you need to create the life you want.

Quotes to Highlight:

  • “Every tree, every eagle, every living being is designed to thrive. So are you.” - Cathy Heller

  • “If you’re feeling unworthy, it’s not because something’s wrong with you — it’s because something’s right with you. You’re meant for more.” - Cathy Heller

  • “The more you receive, the more you give. That’s how abundance works.” - Cathy Heller

  • “There’s no wizard of Oz — you’re the wizard.” - Cathy Heller

  • “Every single time you’re in overflow, your joy spills over to the people around you. The world needs more people walking around with full cups.” - Cathy Heller

12 Feb 2025Ep.97 Ciara Devereux: Breaking Free: Healing, Radical Self-Ownership, and the Power of Story 01:13:38

In this episode of The Blueprint Podcast, Jason welcomes Ciara Devereux, a licensed psychotherapist, trauma, grief, and loss specialist, and public speaker based in San Francisco. With a background spanning addiction recovery, post-incarceration rehabilitation, and relationship counseling, Ciara brings a wealth of experience to the conversation. She shares how her own personal journey led her into the mental health space, emphasizing the importance of radical self-ownership and the power of rewriting the stories we tell ourselves.

Together, Jason and Ciara dive deep into why people-pleasing keeps so many stuck in cycles of external validation and self-sacrifice. They explore the hidden cost of avoiding conflict, the role of shame in shaping identity, and how unprocessed emotions often manifest as anger, anxiety, and avoidance. The discussion shifts to relationships and attachment, breaking down the anxious-avoidant cycle and why so many people mistake familiarity for love. She also provides insight into why boundary-setting is difficult and how men, in particular, struggle to advocate for their own needs due to societal conditioning.

As the conversation unfolds, Jason and Ciara examine grief, trauma, and the misconceptions surrounding healing. They discuss why grief is often misunderstood, how to recognize its presence in everyday life, and why people unknowingly carry unresolved loss into relationships and decision-making. Ciara shares strategies for self-regulation, including how shifting internal narratives can create a foundation for lasting change.

The episode concludes with an exploration of the future of mental health and the shift toward self-healing. Ciara emphasizes the need for emotional literacy, particularly for men, and highlights the importance of building real-life community and mentorship. 25 Feb 2025Ep. 99 No Ticket to High Ticket: Tanner Chidester’s Rise to Millions00:50:57

Tanner Chidester went from struggling entrepreneur to scaling multiple seven and eight-figure businesses—but after hitting $1M/month, he realized something was missing. In this episode, we dive deep into his journey, from early hustle to high-ticket coaching success, and the hard lessons about money, fulfillment, and business scalability.

Tanner reveals why most entrepreneurs stall at six figures, how to pivot when strategies stop working, and what separates business owners who plateau from those who scale past $1M/month.

What You’ll Learn in This Episode:

✔️ The mindset shift Tanner made after hitting $1M/month
✔️ Why coaching & consulting businesses have an income ceiling
✔️ The biggest hiring mistakes that prevent business growth
✔️ How to scale past $100K/month (most entrepreneurs get this wrong)
✔️ The future of AI in business, content, and marketing
✔️ Why high-ticket is actually easier to sell than low-ticket

If you’re scaling your business, struggling with sales, or looking for your next big pivot, this episode is packed with insights from someone who’s done it at the highest level.

  • DM @tanner.chidester on Instagram with "Blueprint Podcast" to connect.
  • Listen on Apple, Spotify, and YouTube
Subscribe, leave a review, and share this episode!

Key Takeaways & Lessons from the Episode

1. The “Million a Month” Realization: Money Won’t Fix Everything

  • Tanner hit $1M/month, threw a huge party, and quickly realized… no one cared.
  • After sacrificing friendships, relationships, and free time, he started questioning what actually mattered.
  • His new goal: Building businesses that don’t just make money, but also fuel personal growth and freedom.

2. Why Coaching & Consulting Won’t Make You a Billionaire

  • High-ticket coaching is great for cash flow, but bad for scale because it requires manual fulfillment.
  • After interviewing ultra-high-net-worth individuals, Tanner found that billion-dollar businesses have:
    • Private Equity: Buying & scaling businesses.
    • Hedge Funds: Managing investor capital at scale.
    • Tech & SaaS: Low-overhead, high-leverage products.
  • If freedom & scalability matter, you need a business that delivers consistent value without constant effort.

3. The 80/20 Rule for Pivoting When Business Strategies Stop Working

  • Many entrepreneurs panic and completely overhaul their strategies too quickly.
  • Instead, test new strategies gradually → Keep 80% of your budget/resources in what’s still working and 20% in testing new approaches.
  • Example: If spending $10K/month on ads, keep $8K in proven methods, $2K for testing.

4. Scaling from $100K to $1M: Why Most Entrepreneurs Stall

  • 0-100K/month: Can be brute-forced with hard work and personal effort.
  • 100K-1M/month: Requires hiring, delegation, and team leadership.
  • Biggest mistake: Entrepreneurs think “working harder” will grow their business.
    • Instead, success depends on acquiring & keeping high-level talent.
    • If your team can’t execute at a high level, your business will hit a ceiling.

5. Organic vs. Paid Traffic: What’s Actually Working in 2025?

  • If you don’t have money for ads:
    • Create engaging content that starts inbound conversations.
    • Cold outreach – Manually message potential leads.
  • Content Strategy Tanner Recommends:
    • Case Studies → Show testimonials & proof.
    • Value Posts → Teach something people can use immediately.
    • Lifestyle (optional) → Build relatability & trust.
  • Why high-ticket is easier to sell:
    • Fewer sales needed to hit revenue goals.
    • Perceived value increases when pricing is positioned correctly.

6. The Truth About Instagram Shoutouts & Boosted Posts

  • Do shoutouts still work? Not as well as before.
  • Best for B2C (fitness, lifestyle brands), not B2B (coaching, consulting).
  • Better alternative? → Boosted posts with DM automations (ex: “Comment ‘Blueprint’ for a free training”).
  • Rule of thumb: If it doesn’t bring a direct return, it’s not worth it.

7. AI in Business & Content Creation: What’s Useful Right Now?

  • AI is great for copywriting, DM automation, and content ideation.
  • Not replacing human storytelling anytime soon.
  • Best use case: Automating repetitive tasks to free up time.

Final Thoughts & What to Do Next

Tanner Chidester has built, scaled, and pivoted multiple businesses to seven and eight figures. His biggest lesson? Money alone won’t fix your problems—but the right strategy will give you both freedom and financial success.
