31 May 2022Second Rate Review: Dead Heat (1988)01:00:57

Will and Kevin mentioned they would be substituting the "All the Best Bits" audio commentaries for something new and this is that something new. And for this Patreon-backed pilot episode, they travelled back to the summer of “Die Hard”, “Rain Man”, and “Beetlejuice”, and took a chance on "Dead Heat".

A cop (Joe Piscopo) and his undead partner (Treat Williams) must chase down the diabolical villain who killed him.

08 Dec 2021LA Confidential Commentary (with Rioghnach Ní Ghrioghair)02:20:55

Will and Kevin are joined for this episode of "All The Best Bits" by writer-director Rioghnach Ní Ghrioghair. Alongside being an excellent and empathetic script editor, Rioghnach has made several short films, including "Break Us", and her brand new short "Don’t Go Where I Can’t Find You" which just premiered at Vienna's Slash Film Fest and The Cork Film Festival. She’s also a former development exec whose credits include "Rose Plays Julie" and "Float Like a Butterfly".

Curtis Hanson's 1997 neo-noir crime film L.A. Confidential is one of Rioghnach's favourite films, one that she's seen multiple times since the age of 12. It's a great commentary that veers into a lovely discussion about navigating the business as an independent filmmaker and writer from both sides of the development process.

You can follow Rioghnach on Twitter @rioghnachNiG and on Instagram @rioghnachnighrioghair

01 Mar 2023Stone Cold Commentary (with Pierce Ryan)01:37:31

Will and Kevin have opened the Patreon vault to share this "All the Best Bits" reaction commentary recorded and released last year for subscribers. Joined by special guest Pierce Ryan (Standby, Black '47), this is their reaction commentary to a film none of them had seen before.

This is Stone Cold from 1991, an action film from legendary stunt coordinator Craig R Baxley starring Brian Bosworth and executive produced by Michael Douglas. Although you might not know this fact as he took his name off it and fired his producing partner when he saw the resulting film. We think, however, that this is a movie that should be better known because it is, by any measure, a stone-cold action classic.

06 Nov 2023Outtake: Best Undercover Scene00:09:38

Next week, Will and Kevin will release their 53rd main show (Best Undercover Scene), and right now, it's a long episode. Whenever they have recordings like this, they try to whittle them down to get them to a listenable length. When they do make edits, those moments are consigned to the bin, but as Will is putting the final touches to the next ep, he has put together an outtake from the coming episode. In this outtake, Will and Kevin talk about William Friedkin's Cruising from 1980—a controversial film at the time, but one that they found plays a lot more conventional now.

16 Aug 2022Second Rate Review: Traxx (1988)01:00:52

“Hello and Welcome to The Best Bits: Second Rate Show where we flashback to a random week of release and give a second chance to a film we didn't see the first time.”

Will and Kevin return to the summer of “Die Hard”, “Young Guns” and “Cocktail”, and take a chance on Shadoe Steven's obscure and hard-to-find cult action-comedy classic "Traxx".

Just relax, here comes Traxx.

When gun-toting mercenary Traxx (Shadoe Stevens) retires from a life of combat to begin a cookie baking business, he quickly runs out of money and needs cash fast. Seeing an opportunity in the crime-ridden streets of Hadleyville, Texas, he offers his illicit services to the Chief of Police as a "Town Tamer" - a lunatic vigilante who cleans up the streets by any means necessary. For the scum of the city who get in his way, they have three choices: "Be good, be gone, or be dead."

10 Nov 2021Best Whodunit Scene (with C. Robert Cargill)01:38:37

When it comes to Whodunits, many names come to mind, Raymond Chandler, Agatha Christie, Otto Preminger, but when it comes to who brought it? Will and Kevin's extra special guest co-host did. A writer of five books, four movies, and the host of one long-running podcast.

C. Robert Cargill is the author of the critically acclaimed novels "Sea Of Rust" and "Day Zero"; he's also one-half of the popular podcasting duo (with Brian Salsbury) of Junkfood Cinema and he's the co-screenwriter of box office blockbuster films "Sinister", "Sinister 2", "Doctor Strange", and the upcoming Scott Derrickson horror film based on the Joe Hill short story "The Black Phone".

In a killer episode that spans all genres and eras of whodunits, Will, Kevin and Cargill thoroughly investigate this week's scene theme in an effort to solve the ultimate crime - that of attempting to pick a Best Whodunit Scene!

You can follow Cargill on Twitter @massawyrm
