27 Sep 2020Kath Ebbs on the real meaning of healthy & labels 00:39:33

Do you feel like you can't specifically identify with any single 'version' of yourself? Hello to you multilayered human - meet Kath Ebbs - a young woman who has experienced the pressures and difficulty of commercialising and branding your personality for social media. Today Kath shares her journey and struggles in subsiding to a single e-version of 'her' and how she has evolved to maintain a more authentic self online (no hate to those of you who really thrive off and know exactly who your e-persona is!) Similarly, sexuality to Kath, always felt like a box to be ticked. We dive into how she is a multilayered human who in fact doesn't like labels or ticking boxes at all!

We also speak about her relationship with health and being healthy - you'll be happy to know we both agree healthy can mean having the ice cream! It also means absolutely going for a run sometimes - it's all about reading your body signs! I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did recording it. You can find out more about Kath by visiting her IG @kathebbss.

04 Oct 2020MM5 All of your bad relationships have one thing in common - you 00:21:43

So, if you're the common denominator amongst all of your bad relationships, you either need to change your mindset or get real and finally spring clean the relationship room (eek yes I know you probably don't want to hear it)! Sometimes this isn’t always as easy as it sounds, especially when it’s family or colleagues, so tune in for my thoughts on these tricky areas.

I’ll also muse a little on the concept of control and whether this is causing the “negativity” you perceive. Let’s channel your thoughts and emotions around “bad” relationships … after all, they’re JUST as toxic as “bad” thoughts, feelings, foods & drink. Listen and find out where you stand!

Disclaimer: I am not. Psychologist or a professional in coaching relationships and this is purely my own personal advice & thoughts (which I’m hoping you will resonate with to some degree!)

If you enjoy this weeks episode, it would mean the world to me if you to share it with someone you think will love it, or leave us a rating/review on your preferred channel ♡

Stay Balanced

------------

Exercise from this week:

  1. Take a few DEEP breaths
  2. Think of people who light you up
  3. Two points of gratitude linked to why they light you up (GO DEEP!)
  4. Now that you're calm & positive, re-think of a negative relationship and consider if there are any aspects of point 3 that you think can potentially relate to this one. If the answer is no, then you know what you need to do.

11 Oct 2020Sarah Liz King explains PCOS /HA + intuitive eating 00:54:22

You know when it's that time of the month and you couldn't think of anything worse than exercising? Listen in as Health Coach and Exercise Physiologist Sarah Liz King discusses how we can and should optimise our training regime alongside the phases of our menstrual cycle. We also chat about PCOS & Hypothalamic Amenorrhea - how can you know which one you have and what are the differences in terms of your training and diet? Oh and what about the pill, can that really help or hinder menstrual issues? Sarah shares all her insight and opinion on today's pod.

Lastly we do a deep dive into intuitive eating - what does this buzz word actually mean and how can we become intuitive eaters? I loved this chat so much and learned a whole bunch about my body and biology.

I would strongly recommend checking out Sarah's own podcast "Holistic Health Radio" for a deeper dive into these topic areas. Further, you can check out more through IG @sarahlizking or by visiting her website https://sarahlizking.com. 18 Oct 2020Scott Halford on Brain Balance + our constant desire for control / pt 100:45:37

Do we really only use 10% of our brains? Why do we always feel like we need to be in control of everything (I'm talking to you back seat drivers!) Is our intelligence confined to the size of our brain? These and SO much more answered in today's pod.

Tune in as writer and long-time professional speaker and educator of businesspeople worldwide, Scott Halford enlightens us all the way from Colorado on all things regarding our key Balance Organ - the brain. His experience is based on brain-based behavioural science, emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and influence. Today we talk about how to leverage off our desire for control, how universal wisdom comes to be, why coffee is your friend and the impacts of stress today, and long term.

Speaking of stress, Scott shares his 5 stress erasers which are easy to adopt and could change your life experience! I'd love to hear if you give these a go. If you love this episode, then you need to get your hands on Scott's book 'Activate Your Brain' which is actually how I came across Scott's work in the first place. 25 Oct 2020Scott Halford on why we are retiring too early / pt 200:36:19

Today we follow on from last week's discussion on all things about Brain Balance! We continue discussing Scott's 5 stress erasers, how to optimise breaks at work, if rituals and habits are essential, and why we are retiring too early! This is just as juicy & info packed as the first episode! My favourite part was the understanding that we can continuously grow our brain - even as we get old! We have no choice about the shrinking part, but there are certainly things we can do to sustain it long term.

If you loved this chat, you will really enjoy Scott's book 'Activate Your Brain' available on Amazon. I would strongly recommend picking yourself up a copy! Learn more at http://scotthalford.com. 01 Nov 2020MM6 Free yourself from machine time & bringing back human time 00:07:58

This mini segment today goes into Kronos v Kairos time and why it's important. We're all run by the clock, there's no doubt about it. But what if we could (on the daily) engage in human time, away from clocks and calendars? You know those moments where time feels like it goes on forever? How good would it feel to have moments like that in each and every single day.

Tune in to hear my thoughts on how we might be able to do this! I've kept it short and sweet this week. Enjoy!

This time gave him the opportunity to do the inner work and develop habits that still help him in tough moments today.

25 Apr 2021Efia Sulter on toxic positivity & manifesting an extraordinary life 00:47:13

From being orphaned at 14, to grappling with mental illness and chronic pain, to then moving overseas and building her soul-aligned life + business empowering other woman, Efia has learned how to dream big and not settle for what's within her realms of probability. She is a Mindset & Manifestation Coach, NLP practitioner and host of ‘The Manifest Edit Podcast’.

Today we chat about how to manifest an extraordinary life, what the missing piece to the law of attraction really is, why we need the ups and downs of life, why you need to be EXTREMELY careful thinking you need to be positive all the time, and on that note, why happiness shouldn't be your sole focus goal. Another amazing thing we discuss which is super close to my heart, is why we need to give "negative" emotions air time, rather than shun them or feel guilt/shame around them. All of this & more to get you in the right head space to set intentions & goals, or just surrender to your world!

Her mission is to empower and teach ambitious women how to manifest their EXTRAORDINARY life by overcoming their limiting beliefs, finding and living their soul’s purpose and connecting to their intuition. To connect with Efia more, you can find her on IG @efiasulter_, on her website effytalkslife.com or head over to her podcast anchor.fm/themanifestedit. As mentioned, her free Manifestation Master class can be located at https://effytalkslife.com/myd-masterclass.

02 May 2021MM11. Are you working hard enough, making the hustle healthy & tolerance windows 👩‍💻00:30:00

Ever felt that shame or guilt when you aren't getting enough done, or maybe when you're doing too much, you're guilty of not taking enough care of yourself? There seems to be a constant issue on both ends of the spectrum - that is, hustle versus self care.

I was sick of the two feeling like polar opposites and constantly at the expense of the other, so this episode is my attempt to make sense of the hustle/self care spectrum, find where you sit on it, and help you own your own definitions of hard work. Once we have self awareness as to what hard work means to us, we can firstly, accept and own where we are, and two, pass less judgement towards others in their own ideals of business and hard work.

I know that hustling is a badge of honour many of us like to wear, but how do we make it healthy, our own, and sustainable? That is what we will dive deep into together on today's pod!

16 May 2021Courtney Mangan on communication styles & finding your fire 00:52:24

Today I am joined by Courtney Mangan, owner of multiple successful businesses, including the host of one of my favourite podcasts, "She was the fire" 🔥. Productivity queen shares her journey from living a comfortable, risk free life, when at 30, her world was flipped upside down when she was told that she had skin cancer. She shares her story of honouring the skin you’re in, as well as sharing her knowledge and tips on living your most productive life.

We dive into how to show up as yourself, breaking free from the judgement of others (and not waiting for something dire to do so), tips for juggling a lot and how to set (and reset) goals. Another topic we spoke about which I adore is communication styles and why these are critical not only for your relationships, but for your self care - I mean, do you know how you like to be communicated with? This and much more explored in today's pod.

Further we dove into the best foods to enhance sleep & energy as well as the infamous intermittent fasting diet and if you're predisposed to be 'good' at it. 06 Jun 2021MM12 Why you must revisit/edit/delete goals (+ it's our bday)! 🎉00:35:25

🎉🎉 IT'S OUR BIRTHDAY! We're One Year old! To celebrate this month, we are bringing you double episodes & some amazing guided meditations 🎉🎉

Today I wanted to go back full circle to where it all began - what does balance mean for you? It's important to revisit this to ensure where we are heading, still aligns with what we want. How many times do you set yourself a goal to then never re-visit, edit or even delete it? If your perspective or ideal of balance shifts, then your goals need to be re-jigged as well. We can't be too protective or fixed with something we wrote in the past.

Join me as we reassess your balance right now, look at how you might want that to be different and as a result, how that impacts goals you may have set for yourself. SPEAKING OF goals, have you made any progress to yours yet? If not, it might be because (a) your idea of balance has shifted as so they need to be revisited or (b) you aren't setting your boundaries correctly.

I'll finish today's pod talking about boundaries, what they're not and how to stick to them!

If you love today's pod, share the birthday love and send it to a friend who will also love it! As always, a review/rating left on apple podcast, is a slice earned in my heart .... really! ❤️

09 Jun 2021*GUIDED MEDITATION* 10 Minute Body Scan with Tom Sullivan 🧘00:13:09

A body scan is my current obsession - the fastest way I've found to get out of my head, and into my body. Ten minutes is that perfect sweet spot where it's not too short, but not too long you can't make time for it. Use this to check in with yourself, have a break, reconnect with your intuition or just to let go! I love using on my commutes (all except when I'm driving) or when I want to drift into a deep sleep.

I'm joined by Tom Sullivan who some of you will recognises from Episode 29, who I've meditated with before and absolutely love the way he teaches this practice. You can connect with Tom more at @astillmind.

NOT YOUR FIRST TIME HERE? Skip ahead to 3:25 to go past the intro and straight into the meditation! You can use this multiple times - it never gets old! Each time we sit & practice, is a new opportunity to connect with ourselves in a new way.

13 Jun 2021Nancy Sokarno on healthy procrastination & people pleasing00:57:32

Can procrastination be healthy? Do you notice how your energy shifts around certain people or places? Are you not too confident putting up a boundary if you haven’t already done so?

Today I'm joined by my first guest ever, Nancy Sokarno, or some of you may know her a Psych With Sokz! We chat all things from what to expect from therapy (I feel like no one shares this information?), and how this can help you being preventative in terms of your mental health - so many of us are quick to do this for our bodies by exercising, so it's time to spread the word on doing the same for our minds 🧠

Further, what Monsters Zinc has to do with your energy and why you should care, noticing how things and situations make us feel, and finding what lights you up. There's a little vent about procrastination, when this is a curse, and actually identifying when it can be a really a healthy thing! We finish with a shout out to all people pleasers (me included), and dive deep into setting boundaries - after all, if you're living to please someone else, your boundaries are probably very low or non existent!

You can connect with Nancy more @psychwithsokz or by visiting her website here.

16 Jun 2021Ang Campanella on rewiring failures and taking action 01:09:42

Well this was fun! I got to interview my partner and share his wealth of knowledge about the human body & zest for life all in one! To commemorate our birthday month, I'm sharing 3 of the closest people in my circle with you all as double episodes this June, starting with my soul mate!

Today Ang and I chat about lots of things from his professional journey into chiropractic, to owning a business, the lessons along the way & why pain is your body's language and way of protecting you. This was a bomb that helped me years ago deal with niggles and rewire my understanding of the human body. More into life topics, we chat about why failures basically don't exist and how to rewire your perception of them, the importance of taking action over planning (most times) and how to back yourself.

I also share some insight into why Ang was such a pivotal part of this podcast coming to life and stay tuned for the end where we share some exclusive info not everyone may know about either of us!

If you want to connect with Ang more you can find him @angcampanellachiro or visit the clinic by booking here.

I hope you enjoy getting to know my soul mate! It is truly a blessing to be able to share him with you all. Share this with someone who will love it too!

20 Jun 2021Sarah Davidson (Seize The Yay) on happy accidents & breaking the autopilot circuit 01:07:27

Today I am joined by the wonderful Sarah Davidson - founder of Matcha Maiden, Matcha Mylkbar & host of the Seize The Yay podcast. I have a been a big fan of Sarah's for some time now and I love her even more after this interview (total fan girl moment for me)!

Today we chat about how Sarah got to where she is today, the happy accidents & sliding doors moment that have landed her in many unforeseen but amazing situations as well as how the entire Seize The Yay concept came to be. In and amongst this, a chat about the danger zone a lot of us are in - the zone where we won't really question what we are doing, unless we are actively unhappy. She refers to this as the autopilot circuit and gives us her tips on how to break this and find true purpose - even if we don't change a thing. We also chat about Seizing Your NAY which is equally as important as the yay, finding your why, rewiring failures as movement forwards and her tips on meaningful self care.

We end with a chat about the importance of PLAY & why dreaming big needs to be small enough so you can actually start.

I can't wait for you to tune into this one - I know you will love it as much as me!

23 Jun 2021Sonia De Pelle on branding as a lens for personal introspection & authenticity 01:00:45

*This Episode is a MUST for all Self Development Junkies!*

Today I am honoured to share with you all a chat with my nearest and dearest sister, Sonia De Pelle! She is also the Creative Founder of 'De Pelle' creative strategy branding agency. BEFORE you read on, I must impress that even if you aren't a business owner or see the need for "brands" in your personal or professional life, you will still get a LOT out of this ep so don't skim past it!

Today we talk a lot about the meaning of authenticity and introspection - two key elements to self development. The reason I am chatting to Sonia about this today is because her branding process is highly unique, personal and detailed to a point where elements of it can be used for any self scrutiny exercise. Need to find out what your values are? What makes you happy? What you enjoy? What energy you want to omit? Etc! All of these can be looked at much like one can when developing a brand. It may even open your eyes to the intentions of brands and the thought that goes into creating something bigger than ones self.

A little bit different this week but nonetheless valuable. The key to understanding yourself and the self care you engage with, is questioning how you go about things. You can download our free resource here for a little guide!

04 Jul 2021MM13 Becoming comfortable with change + the gems hidden in its process00:34:45

Hi Balancers, Erika back here for another Monday Muse episode. Today is all about CHANGE! Change is an INEVITABLE part of your balance - so if you're someone who finds they usually resist change, this is an ep especially for you my friend!

Join me as I share a very recent change that I've undergone that inspired me to consider the uncomfortableness we experience in change and how we can better equip ourselves to combat this in the future. I take you through a really useful framework that explains the steps of change and might help you better understand where you get stuck, what parts your find difficult or just act as a lovely reflection on how you've successfully navigated change in the past.

As it is an inevitable part of life, carefully considering our relationship with it, brings us that one step closer to our idea of balance. I also chat about why instant gratification can ruin great change and my thoughts on persistence and execution.

Share this with someone who will love it too!

Today I chat with the wonderful Lola Berry, who is a TV presenter, best selling author, nutritionist, yoga teacher and podcast host of “Fearlessly Failing with Lola Berry”. Lola's work in redefining failure and being humble all the way through shapes today's conversation.

She shares a public failure she had, the lessons it taught her and we dive into why the bounce back from failure is more important than the "failure" itself. 25 Jul 2021Simon Roberts on the power of not thinking & 'body' storming 00:50:21

This week I chat to UK author and anthropologist Simon Roberts, about 'the power of not thinking'. This title is NOT what you think! When I picked up the book, I expected tips and tricks on how to shut my mind off, BUT what I got was so much more and a very unique take on our bodies, and now I can share that with you all!

Simon and I chat about embodies knowledge and how the way we feel something is more profound than just seeing or hearing it. We question the concept of mind over matter/mind first, and talk about putting the body first as an idea! There are some things, like your intuition, that your body just feels and knows to be true, but you can't explain it! Why don't we put more emphasis on that? I think we're in a culture that prioritises the brain and often forgets to give credit to our bodies too!

Simon shares how this concept is not only important for our balance, but also empathy, business strategy decisions and more! We also cover the idea of Body Storming.

I know you're going to love this episode! Tag us and let us know what your biggest takeaways were. ALSO if you haven't had a chance to leave a review or rating, it would mean to world to us as an Independent podcast and our growing community.

22 Aug 2021Georgina Claxton on the dynamic equilibrium + finding purpose beyond what you 'do' 00:56:55

Today I am joined by Georgina Claxton, a Physiotherapist with a special interest in Women’s Health, Clinical Pilates Instructor and Sport Scientist. Her purpose is to make a difference and inspire others to be their most authentic selves.

What I most enjoyed about today's chat was the way Georgina took some complex & professional concepts, and made them so disgestable for us and our balance - we speak tapping into one's purpose, what homeostasis has to do with balance, avoiding adrenal fatigue, how to actually take things off your plate and why being in our optimal thriving state is balance (and how to get there).

We also did a deep dive into why you are more than just your title, i..e what you do isn't who you are which I LOVE, and is so important to grasp (especially in the context of our balance). We ended on a chat about what role body image has to play in your balance and Georgina is open with her own struggles and journey in this area.

I know you're going to love this chat, so send it to someone who will too! Share this on your story and tag @thebalancetheory and @georgieclaxton to let us know you vibed with us!

03 Oct 2021MM16 Productivity guilt and how to deal with it 00:34:46

Today I wanted to go deep into something that has been personally frustrating me lately, especially being in lockdown, and something I have spoken to many of you about in my IG DMs. It’s around this idea that we feel guilt when we haven’t utilised our time to the max, or in other words been productive. In a usual routine, non lockdown, Do you ever get that feeling at the end of your day where you just haven’t been that productive? Maybe you haven’t crossed off what you wanted from your todo list, or you actually have done some stuff and feel completely deflated for not having done enough?

Well I bet if you feel that sometimes,  now during lockdown it’s probably hitting that nerve way harder in a different but somehow familiar way. One thing I’ve personally been struggling with is this idea that I have more time than ever right now, which should give me more time to slow down and relax, but I often feel the complete opposite? Join me as I explore why this is happening, productivity guilt, time anxiety and what you can do about it!

31 Oct 2021MM17 Why not choosing is a choice & the magic role of gratitude 00:24:14

This week I talk all about CHOICE. Choosing to change is a choice, but so is staying the same. There’s a power in accepting this. You may feel like you’re in a job just because you need it. Or you have friendships just because you’re in that group but you really wouldn’t otherwise.Choosing to stay in that job or spend time with that friendship group is a choice. And here’s why it matters to own this.

If you're feeling helpless or stuck then this episode is just what you need to reframe and take back control of your life. I also do a deep dive into the power of gratitude and have also discussed this on a previous episode, in Monday Muse 9 which you can find here.
