A great chat with Rob Paddock, business owner of Paddock's Paint Works for almost 10 years!
Rob started his career at a technical center in the auto body program in high school. From the first time he picked up a sanding block and paint gun he knew that this is what he wanted to do. It wasn't until he began working for Classic and Exotic service in Troy Restoring multi-million dollar pre WWII cars that he began to strive for perfection.
Rob took that quality level and opened his own shop wanting to give customers the same quality at a more reasonable rate. They're able to achieve this because they are a much smaller shop with a lower overhead but still having state of the art equipment.
He defined himself as a "perfectionist". They do not cut any corners and they use nothing but top quality materials. Their work is second to none and their rate is extremely reasonable.
Paddock's Paint Works is a Premier restoration shop specializing in muscle car, pre WWII and motorcycles. From metal work to award winning body and paint. Rob love to turn your project into an award winning work of art.

Gorilla Marketing Tactics | Joseph O'Neill Benners Auto Body |
01:02:01
Today's episode, we have the President of Benner's Auto Body, Joseph O'Neill.
Benner's Auto Body is a family owned collision center for over 100 years. The company has always been at the forefront of innovation. In today’s market they are running the most sophisticated equipment to get the cars back to crash ready factory standards. In keeping with the times they have recently become a Tesla Certified Structural Repair facility. They also are Honda ProFirst, Subaru, and Mercedes-Benz certified. Under Joseph's supervision the company has shown a consistent 10-15% growth year after year.
Benner’s Auto Body first opened its doors in Cranford, NJ more than 100 years ago, founded by the Benner family in 1910. Today, Benner Auto Body is a household name, renowned throughout the state as New Jersey’s most trusted auto repair center.
In 1980, the shop was sold to Joseph O’Neill Sr., who expanded the building to accommodate more cars and more customers in need. The renovations increased the body shop’s size to 25,000 square feet. The body shop can now handle 60+ cars a week comfortably without sacrificing quality.
In 2010, Benner’s Auto Body was handed down to its current owner, Joseph O’Neill Jr., who has helped Benner’s continue to uphold its core values of providing the best products and service available on the market and leading by example as an active member of the community. Since taking the helm, Joe Jr. has significantly expanded Benner’s community involvement to include, Roselle, Roselle Park, Cranford, and Westfield Police Departments. Additionally the Union 200 Club, Cranford Rotary, Cranford Chamber of Commerce, Memorial Sloan Kettering, NJ Veterans Network, FDNY, Turn 2 Foundation, Perfect 33 Foundation, Stand up 2 Cancer, The Fisher House, amongst other smaller charities.
Benner's has also made huge strides in becoming green and energy efficient. We were one of the first shops on the east coast to spray waterborne paint. Any equipment that has the ability to run on a variable frequency drive including the air compressors and spray booths were converted over. The body technicians all use dustless sanding equipment. The office has the ability to be completely paperless if the customer asks for it. However our proudest achievement was becoming partners with Tesla Motors. In less then 3 years we now rank in the top 14 in country for repair quality, customer service, and repair volume for Tesla.
A lot has changed in the last several decades since the ownership of Benner’s Auto Body switched hands to the O’Neill family. But, the goal has remained the same:
"Our mission is to provide our customers with the service they expect with the respect they deserve while maintaining a high level of social responsibility focusing on the environment and the community at large."

Thinking Differently ft. David Caulfield of Flashback Forward Inc. | Fix Auto Anaheim North
01:14:23
For today's episode we had an amazing chat with David Caulfield, CEO of Flashback Forward Inc. and the Owner of Fix Auto Anaheim North
David Caulfield was priming a classic car for delivery at Fix Auto Anaheim North, a specialized collision repair center he owns and operates that separates the work performed on lighter hits and heavy-hit vehicles into two buildings, when something underneath the vehicle caught his eye. While Caulfield works on the cutting edge of collision repair technology, a story about an older vehicle helps to explain his attention to detail.
David Caulfield has been in the collision repair business for over 42 years. David founded Fix Auto Anaheim North – Specialized Collision Center in 2018; an industry differentiator when compared to traditional models.
David founded East Hills Auto Collision in 1988. He merged his business with the Founder of Fix Auto USA in 1998 to create Fix Auto Yorba Linda, the Fix Auto Network's 3rd franchisee. Since, 2 additional locations, Fix Auto Santa Ana and Fix Auto Orange.
In February through August of 2017, David sold his ownership in the the 3 Fix auto Locations in order to create one of the industry's first Specialized Collision Centers. His center has broken tradition with respect to process, KPI’s, operating procedures and cleanliness. David has experienced "hands on" in all aspects and skill sets of the trade. Beginning in the mid 70's, his career in production painting led to traditional collision repair and on to studying and redifining heavy collision repair shops. As a detailer, painter, body technician, estimator and manager, he has set the foundation for the successes he can claim today.
David shares his experiences with shop owners and managers across the country, promotes the importance of growth and education and designs software programs specifically for the improvement of process, efficiency and customer service. Some of his inventions include software programs designed to improve communications between the customer and repair shop; UpdatePromise.com, released in 2008, now known as CCC UpdatePlus®.
David's latest invention, myQCIQ.com - David continues to develop software and process applications in the collision field as well as the redesign of many collision repair facilities across the southland. Sherwin Williams acquired the exclusive reseller and distribution rights for MyQCIQ.com in 2020. It is just now being launched in North America as part of Sherwin Williams’ “Collision Core” suite of cloud-based solutions. MyQCIQ has about 50 users as of this writing, and a soft launch is planned for the first quarter of 2022. The initial market target is collision repair shop owners who are early adopters of technology—those with a heightened awareness of the importance of standardizing the quality control process and who also have high expectations for CSI scores and standards.
In 2019, he founded Flashback Forward, Inc., a company that designed what may be his crowning tech innovation, MyQCIQ.com, which gives body shops the ability to quickly view, verify, track, and grade in real-time every step of the repair process.
Caulfield encourages shop owners to take a look at their technology tools and try to see their full potential. A program like Word of Excel, for example, might be used for simple word processing or bookkeeping, but the programs have so many untapped uses for most people. He says it’s like someone who owns a talented dog but just lets it sit around the house all day.

Today, I'm talking with an inspiring man behind Simplicity Car Care.
Paul was born in Caledon East, Ontario, Canada. At the age of seven he moved to Brampton, Ontario, Canada and currently residing in Totonto, Ontario, Canada
In an interview, Paul says that he did not plan on being in the collision repair industry. Paul planned to attend law school, but after graduation, he quickly identified that their family business needed his help. Paul took a lot of technical training which is where STEM experience helped a lot. He had to adapt to the Collision Centre by using engineering, science, and technology knowledge to assist in learning damage assessments and vehicle repairs. During his career, Paul had many failures that did not go to plan. Paul overcame them by believing in himself, in the plan and he used these failures as opportunities to become better. So far, everything has worked perfectly.
Paul is a CEO at Simplicity Car Care and a Chairman at Canadian Collision Industry Forum (CCIF). Paul is an active player in the aftermarket industry. He has been a member of the CCIF steering Committee (2014-2016), a Chairman of the PPG Elite Performance Group (2013-2016) and most recently, a member of the AIA Collision Industry Council.
Paul believes that collaboration and active communication are integral to the successful development of industry and community. His dedication and experience are just part of what makes him a deserving recipient of this year’s award.

For today's episode, we have Kyle Boyce, the Vice President of Boyce Body Werks, Inc.
On Sept 1, 1985, Ken and Marcia Boyce opened the doors of Boyce Body Werks on Paramount Parkway in Batavia. The original building came equipped with a homemade paint booth which was soon replaced by a state-of-the-art German downdraft paint booth. During that era, very few shops in the Chicagoland area had this superior type of equipment. Quality work was the primary focus from day one.
Kyle Boyce literally grew up in the shop. When he wasn’t even a year old, he was with his parents when they looked at and signed the lease on the first Boyce Body Werks building on Paramount Parkway. He started helping his dad ‘work’ on cars at a very young age. Kyle has held 9 different positions in his 25 years at Boyce Body Werks, starting at age of 11 with the job of taking the garbage out. Since then, he has been a car washer, porter, buffer, painter’s helper, painter, parts person, estimator, general manager of the Batavia location, and now the Vice President of Boyce Body Werks.
Today, Boyce Body Werks is one of the largest independently-owned collision repair shops in the Chicago area, with over 40 employees, repairing all makes and models.
Kyle recently joined the prestigious MSO (multi-shop owner) 20 group of collision repair owners, where he is continuing to learn the business side of the collision repair industry from some of the most successful independent shop owners in the country.

Today's episode, we have Danyon Kirchner, a Business Services Manager of Zimmerman Auto Body Supplies and C20 Refinish Moderator of Collision Hub as well.
Danyon, as a teenager in the late 90’s and early 2000’s he started hanging around some local body shops, and became intrigued with painting immediately. The fact that people could take a wrecked car, and make it look untouched, absolutely fascinated Danyon. He was literally that kid who wouldn’t leave the body shop, so they put him to work.
Danyon really wanted to be a lawyer or an accountant. He made the decision, however, to not take on college debt and spend the rest of his life paying for it. Since he had been working in the body shop during high school and absolutely loved all aspects, Danyon chose to pursue it as a career. His dad was still alive at the time and encouraged Danyon to do what he loved. He suggested Danyon go to Thaddeus Stevens College and get an affordable degree. It was the best move he ever made without question. Danyon’s dad owned a locally well-known sub shop up until his death, so family businesses mean more to him than most. In his heart, he always knew that he wanted to work for a family run business, as he firmly believes that they are the lifeblood of America. Before joining ZABS, Danyon was a ZABS customer. He was always impressed that whether he worked in a bigger shop or smaller shop, Danyon was treated with the same respect. He loves being part of a company with strong ethics and moral values.
The most accomplishment Danyon is most proud is right before joining Zimmerman’s in 2009, he spent a semester as a refinish instructor at Thaddeus Stevens. In his role now, Danyon get to see what some of his students have become. One of them opened his own shop, and several others have become high end technicians. It feels good to Danyon to know that he had a small part in that.
Danyon also works as a C20 Refinish Moderator at Collision Hub where he manages monthly meetings with collision centers from all over the US. He creates and presents information that is specifically designed for the paint shop, from full inventory control to in depth training on the art of color match. This virtual group allows painters from all over the country to learn, converge and be the best they can be in their field.

Starting Off With A Clean Slate | Ft. Destiny Potter |
01:06:26
New Podcast Episode with Destiny Potter, Nissan Certified Collision Estimator of Andy Mohr Collision Center in Indianapolis, IN.
A mixture of factors sparked Potter’s interest in the collision repair industry. At age five, she helped her father with small repairs on his vehicles. They watched automotive TV shows together, and he helped her begin a Hot Wheels collection. When her dad passed away, she started to look up to her Grandpa, who works at a GM plant, and her Uncle, who owned his own shop for motorcycles, scooters and ATVs. And, Destiny also stated that without her mom, she would have given up on her dreams. She’s always had her back and would never let her give up.
Granted, Destiny still never fully decided she wanted to be in this industry until about the end of her middle school. She lost interest in her other hobbies, but her interest in cars never died. So, she decided that she would dedicate her high school years to automotive, design and business management classes.
After high school, Potter attended the Lincoln College of Technology in Indianapolis, pursuing an associate degree in service management and an I-CAR certification. During her senior year in 2016, Potter became acquainted with CREF and met CREF Director of Development Brandon Eckenrode when the foundation awarded her a $2,000 Lon Baudoux Memorial Scholarship.
With the support of CREF, Destiny Potter is jumping every hurdle in her path – and gaining a lot of experience along the way. When the Collision Repair Education Foundation (CREF) erased Destiny Potter’s student debt in 2017, it did not erase every challenge she would face while pursuing a career in the collision repair industry. However, with the support of CREF, a solid education, devotion to the industry and some good old-fashioned determination, Potter is jumping every hurdle in her path – and gaining a lot of experience along the way.
During her senior year, Potter also became an ABRA Auto Body & Glass part-time employee, detailing cars for nine months. She originally planned to become a painter, but when ABRA offered the opportunity to become the youngest estimator in the Indiana market, Potter saw it as a step closer to her ultimate goal: becoming a “Jill-of-all-trades” in the shop environment.
Potter’s estimating skills grew at ABRA for four years until February 2020, when she found herself unemployed due to COVID-related downsizing.
