28 May 2024 | Alex Farkas of UGallery I️ What it Takes to Start, Run, and Work With an Online Art Gallery | 00:41:30
Enjoy today's informative episode with Alex Farkas of UGallery. Alex enjoyed a small town childhood in the old mining town of Jerome, Arizona - there were more ghosts than residents and the arts community thrived. It was his mother's ceramic studio and gallery that first nurtured Alex's taste in art. He spent his early years carving wood sculptures, exploring abandoned buildings, and avoiding the rattlesnakes and centipedes under every rock. At the University of Arizona, Alex loved studying art history and sculpture, and he also enrolled in the Entrepreneurship program. It was here he realized he could combine the two worlds of art and business. Graduating in 2006, Alex launched UGallery using his entire savings. After a few years, he packed up a truck and moved to San Francisco to join its vibrant art market. After almost 15 years in San Francisco, he moved to Amsterdam where he runs the business today. Alex has curated the UGallery portfolio since its inception, hosted booths at the New York Affordable Art Fair for over 8 years, and seen UGallery featured in dozens of publications including the New York Times, Washington Post, and TechCrunch. UGallery is a curated online gallery offering a unique selection of heirloom-quality artwork from both emerging and established artists. Founded by Gallery Director Alex Farkas in 2006, UGallery has developed a loyal following of art collectors, artists, and interior designers in all 50 states and over 50 countries. 11 Jun 2024 | Erin Donahue Tice on Understanding Your Customer, Market, and Style | 00:59:01
Enjoy today's episode with Erin Donahue Tice. Erin Donahue Tice is a self-taught abstract artist based in Austin, Texas creating original paintings for inspired collectors across the country. In 2023 she launched her debut collection of textiles and wallpaper. Her work has been featured in House Beautiful, Better Homes & Gardens, Traditional Home, Southern Home and Luxe Magazine. Following a 12-year career in corporate PR, Erin started painting after the birth of her second son as both a creative and therapeutic outlet. Erin's medium of choice is acrylics but she also experiments with mixed mediums. She is drawn to the object nature of abstract art and loves the free-flowing experience of creating something unexpected. From far away, her canvases appear to have sharp lines, yet upon closer inspection, the viewer discovers delicate marks and subtle shadows that gives each piece interest. There is almost always an undercurrent of both black and white within Erin’s pieces, which offers balance amid a mostly colorful visual experience. And every now and then, color is stripped completely to offer a stripped-down neutral palette and sense of calmness, reflective of the more serene experiences in my life. Erin challenges herself by playing around with different elements, from layering paper, foam and cardboard onto canvases, to using acrylics, gouache, oil pastels, markers and charcoal to bring her pieces to life. She especially loves the process of marrying interior design with art and is passionate about working hand-in-hand with designers and clients alike to create a statement. Erin also draws inspiration from her "happy place," The Hamptons, where she has spent her summers since 2010. She resides in Austin, TX with her husband Bill and their three little boys, William, George and Andrew. 30 Apr 2024 | Kellie Lawler: Her Journey Back to Art and Finding the Beauty in Simplifying Her Process | 00:47:03
Join us for an in-depth interview with Kellie Lawler. Kellie is inspired by structured design, patterns, and textiles. She has created many acrylic and ink artwork. Combining intrigue with the freedom of a continuous line technique, she creates graphic perspectives of human figures, nature, and other subjects. In creating a subject in one line, without constraints of proportion or perfection, each painting might unfurl differently in both the viewer's and the artist's eyes. Through her artwork, imperfect form meets perfect interpretation. Kellie developed her skills at her high school in Baltimore, MD which provided an extensive elective art program. At Brown University, she played Division I Lacrosse, and her focus shifted to sports and her studies. As can happen, her love for art fell to the wayside. Kellie left providence in 1999 with a BA in psychology and a great guy, a fellow athlete at Brown, who later became her husband. His journey in the medical field has moved their family of six around often, but they have now happily landed in Alabama. As fulfilling as life has been over the years, something was always missing. Curiosity leads Kellie to dust off a decades-old art portfolio and study her old love. At that moment, she knew she was about to start a new chapter of her life. 09 Jul 2024 | Elisa Sheehan on Exploration, Creation, and Making Time to Play | 00:51:56
Enjoy today's episode with Elisa Sheehan. Elisa Sheehan’s art is an invitation to consider the fluent language of nature, the beauty in the broken, and the symphony of color and shape gifted to us by the world itself. With a background in fine art and design, Elisa brings both technical acuity and an unbridled spirit of wonder and discovery to all of her creations. Her works, which span across mediums from fine art painting to kintsugi-inspired eggshell installations, are woven with common threads that ask the observer to ponder the relationship between fragility and strength, to embrace a staggering spectrum of color, and above all, to notice the indelible mark of the natural world on everything we consider beautiful and valuable. Elisa lives rogue and rural in Upstate New York with her family—her favorite tribe of co-adventurers with whom she explores nature, pockets always laden with stones and sticks, and inspiration always within reach. She believes in making art that sustains others, by inviting the outdoors in. "I’ve always loved the Japanese art of kintsugi. It calls us to celebrate age, history, and the scars that life and time make upon everything and everyone. I embrace this as a way to think about ourselves, others, and our relationships as we age. It honors the inevitable imperfections of everything we see and might aspire to be, and represents the duality of fragility and strength, beauty and brokenness.” https://elisasheehan.com/ Subscribe to the Substack

06 Aug 2024 | Allison James I️ Seeking Out Inspiration | 00:57:31
Enjoy today's conversation with Allison James. Allison James is a contemporary abstract painter. James is continually inspired by the messy (but thrilling) human experience. Her work is fueled by personal events and memories, along with conversations overheard from strangers and inside storybooks. James reconfigures these felt emotions into a preferred outcome, translating feeling into her own abstracted storytelling. With this trio of internal processing, Allison is able to construct a new visual narrative of self through her paintings, each piece speaking with saturated color and subtle details. She uses her training as a representational artist and printmaker to build up her signature silhouettes with layers of thin paint, elusive details and recognizable shapes that she endearingly refers to as her ‘decoder ring things.’ James believes a painting can be many things at once, just like people (and most things in life). The cathartic creation processes and making work that feels substantial within its own existence is what keeps her coming back for more. Allison believes her work as a mirror for all of us to see ourselves more clearly, with love and acceptance — all in due time. Allison James has a BFA in Painting, Printmaking and Drawing. She has been seen and featured in various media, including The New York Times, The Bad on Paper podcast, Architectural Digest, Medium, Midwest Living, and Atlanta Magazine. She has been in shows throughout the US and has work in private collections around the world. Allison currently works and lives in Georgia. https://www.allisonjamesco.com/ @the.allisonjames on Instagram
