Hank Shaw is an American chef, author and outdoorsman who runs the wild foods website Hunter Angler Gardener Cook. He is the author of five books: Hunt Gather Cook, Duck Duck Goose, Buck Buck Moose, Pheasant Quail Cottontail and Hook Line and Supper, all wild game cookbooks. Shaw has appeared on numerous television shows, including Andrew Zimmern’s Bizarre Foods..,^[2] Mike Rowe’s Somebody’s Gotta Do It,^[3] Steven Rinella’s Meateater,^[4] and Randy Newberg’s Fresh Tracks.^[5]

Shaw won numerous journalism awards in his early career, and was first nominated for a James Beard Award for Hunter Angler Gardener Cook in 2009.^[11] He was nominated again in 2010,^[12] and won the award in 2013^[13]

Shaw also won Best Blog from the International Association of Culinary Professionals in 2010^[14] and 2011^[15]

His work was featured in the anthology Best Food Writing in 2012^[16] and 2013.^[17]

In addition, Shaw's foraging column in Sactown Magazine won a national award by the society for city and regional magazines in 2014.^[18]

Buck Buck Moose won Best Book from the Outdoor Writers Association of America in 2016.^[19]

Zach and Colton Swon are professional musicians, song writers, producers, outdoorsman, and damn good humans. Robin Keen is a friend and fellow bowhunter who lives in Hawaii. He is a founder of Non-Profit Maui Wild Game Management that works to help manage the Axis Deer populations on the Maui via archery hunting in sensitive areas. Colin O'Brady is an American professional endurance athlete, motivational speaker, NYT Best Selling author, and adventurer. He is a former professional triathlete, representing the United States on the ITU Triathlon World Cup circuit, racing in 25 countries on six continents from 2009 to 2015. O'Brady is a four-time world record holder. In 2016 he set the Explorers Grand Slam (Last Degree) and Seven Summits speed records, the latter of which has since been broken. He became the fastest person to complete the adventurers challenges in 139 days and 131 days respectively. In the summer of 2018, O'Brady set the speed record for the 50 US High Points in 21 days.

On December 26, 2018, he completed a solo crossing of the land mass of Antarctica, excluding the ice shelves, using the South Pole Traverse (SPoT) vehicle road during the last 366 miles (589 km) of the journey.

Kevan Miller is a former professional hockey player, hunter, and family man. He played for the NHL for the Boston Bruins from 2013-2021. Sally Brinker is my lovely and amazing mother. She is a lifelong Oregonian with a dad who personally witnessed Pearl Harbor, and a grandfather who invented the Double Bladed Helicopter. More importantly she did an incredible job raising us three boys, loving and supporting us even when we went rogue. To this day she is still one of my best friends and I can call her with anything. Mark Livesay is the founder of Treeline Pursuits and the creator of Treeline Academy. In general, Mark is a “all in” type of person as seen through his triathlon career (10 Ironman finishes), the formation of his event production company Ultramax Sports, and most significantly in his life-long hunting pursuits.

He spent his first two elk hunting decades traveling from Missouri to the western states. He would definitely qualify as a serial elk hunter, pursuing elk in multiple western states, and spending 75+ days in the backcountry each season. His 30 years of elk hunting have given him a thorough understanding of the challenges associated with E-Scouting and finding elk.

Recently, he has been featured as a guest on a growing list of hunting’s best podcasts, including The Rich Outdoors, Eastmans Elevated, Hunt Harvest Health, The Gritty Podcast, Elk Shape, Backcountry Rookies, Publically Challenged, Shoot'n The Bull, and many others. Cole Kramer started guiding in 2002 fresh out of high school from the Midwest & seeking adventure on Kodiak Island. He was very blessed to have started visiting Kodiak Island since the age of eleven to visit family that was there as Coast Guard getting the opportunity to hunt & fish a few times before moving in 2002. Cole was hired as a greenhorn packer for Mountain Goat, Sitka Blacktail Deer & Brown Bear. Zion Pilgrim is hunter and professional mountain hunting guide in New Zealand. He grew up in a religous cult called Gloriavale in Rural NZ. In the last couple years Zion left the community to pursue a free life with his large family and wife. He is leading expert in hunting in NZ and has amazing story of faith and courage chasing the new life he now can live.

Randy Newberg is a conservationist, a hunter, a financial wizard, and damn good human. He and I have been friends for years sharing in many adventures. Mark Livesay is the founder of Treeline Pursuits and the creator of Treeline Academy. In general, Mark is a “all in” type of person as seen through his triathlon career (10 Ironman finishes), the formation of his event production company Ultramax Sports, and most significantly in his life-long hunting pursuits.

He spent his first two elk hunting decades traveling from Missouri to the western states. He would definitely qualify as a serial elk hunter, pursuing elk in multiple western states, and spending 75+ days in the backcountry each season. His 30 years of elk hunting have given him a thorough understanding of the challenges associated with E-Scouting and finding elk.

Recently, he has been featured as a guest on a growing list of hunting’s best podcasts, including The Rich Outdoors, Eastmans Elevated, Hunt Harvest Health, The Gritty Podcast, Elk Shape, Backcountry Rookies, Publically Challenged, Shoot'n The Bull, and many others. His E-Scouting podcasts on the Rich Outdoors were among the podcast’s most downloaded episodes in 2019.

Cody is an Entrepreneur, a hunter, and a conservationist. Larry started his Bowhunting in 1961 and since has harvested 14 African and 15 bi game species of North America. He is best know for his elk hunting and calling, but has acquired affective skills for calling a variety of wildlife.

He is a member of the official measurer of the Pope and Young Club, and has animals interned into the Club’s record book. His Alaskan Moose ranks in the top 10 in the Pope & Young Club records. Larry’s nomination to the Bowhunters Hall Of Fame® has also been endorsed be the Traditional Archers of Oregon.

Larry is a member of several state hunting associations, Safari Club International, Wild Turkey Federation, and Oregon Hunter Association. He is on the Board of Directors for the Oregon Foundation for Blacktail Deer and has served on the Christian Bowhunters of America. He is a life member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and has served on its board of directors.
He is a free-lance outdoor writer and shared knowledge though his “In Focus” column in Bowhunter Magazine. He has written for most major outdoor magazines. His first column “Bowhunting Tips” was for Doug Walker’s Western Bowhunter Magazine.

Larry enjoys photographing wildlife and scenery. Besides still photography, he captures wildlife on video and produces wildlife and Bowhunting videos. Larry present seminars at sports shows, banquets, conventions, sports shops, churches, and clubs.

Larry has been the president of Wilderness Sound Productions Ltd., and has designed their outstanding line of deer, elk, predator, turkey, javelina, quail, hog and novelty calls. He has also produced their line of informational video and audio cassettes.

At present, he is the Bowhunter Magazine TV Producer, which allows him to videotape their hunts and expressing his passion for bowhunting through his planning and editing.

Brady Miller is addicted to mountain hunting and mule deer… he literally thinks about them every single day of the year. Some would say that his passion is an addiction, but Brady doesn’t mind.

Coy Bowles is best known as a member of three-time Grammy Award-winning Zac Brown Band. He is a world famous musician and also a father, a husband, philanthropist, and outdoorsman. Coy and I have become friends over the years and in this conversation we went way back to the small Georgia town he grew up in, the impact his parents had on his life, his giving back, handling fame, and of course his path into Zac Brown Band.

Since the age of seven, the flight of the arrow has always been a guiding light in Joel's journey.

After years of being a S.W.A.T Sniper Team Leader, Joel was thrust into the intense crucible of a life-changing hostage rescue.

For him, this was the ultimate moment of truth,  a moment that etched itself deep into his psyche. This stark life and death reality scared him onto a path of research and experimentation. It was more than just an act; it was an affirmation that verified the vital importance of the mental game. Mace Curran has led an impressive career as a Fighter Pilot during her 13 years in the United States Air Force. From 2019-2021, she flew as the only female pilot for the Air Force Thunderbirds and performed for millions across the country and internationally. Upon joining this high performing team, she rapidly discovered the best part was not the flying, but the opportunity to inspire others. Michelle was only the 2nd woman to fly as the Lead Solo in the Thunderbird demonstration since the team’s creation in 1953. She realized this put her in a unique position to empower others. In this episode she shares her stories of unbelievable flying, facing fears, and blazing her own path against the odds.

Before joining goHUNT, Trail began his professional career as a wildlife biologist doing biological surveys and clearances across the west prior to oil, gas and mining development. He then moved into a position with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources where he worked as the Assistant Habitat Manager in the southern region for eight years. During his time with the Division, he worked throughout southern Utah conducting wildlife surveys, assessing big game habitat conditions, and implementing landscape scale habitat restoration projects. The improving range conditions and subsequent growing herds throughout the southern portion of the state are a testament to the hard work that he and others like him have completed over the past fourteen years. 

Having grown up in rural southern Utah, the outdoors and hunting has been a major part of his life from a very early age. In his own words, “ I love everything about hunting, the research, planning, preparation, gear,  adventure, peace, and challenge it provides. There is nothing like it, it’s all consuming for me”. Trail has hunted multiple states throughout the west and continues to apply and research any opportunity to explore and hunt more every year. He has a beautiful supportive wife and three boys who can’t wait for their turn to hunt and harvest their first buck. He is eager to share his knowledge and assist you in chasing your own hunting goals and dreams.

Brian Call, Ryan Lampers, Ryan Bassham, Brice Bishop, and I sit down for a BS session on various topics. Bert Sorin and his wonderful wife Lesley are the proud parents of three children. Bert and his family, a family rooted in strength, have been entrenched in the human performance world for as far back as he can remember. Growing up with a barbell in his hand has been pivotal in charting the course of his life and leading him to become a 4-time Division 1 All-American Track and Field (Hammer and 35 lb. Weight Throw), Southeastern Conference Champion, former record holder in Weight Throw, and an Olympic trials athlete. Bert is currently the President and Co-Owner of Sorinex Exercise Equipment, a very successful family run business founded by his father, another big name in the iron game, Richard Sorin. Together they are the inventors of hardware and applications to make people more effective, efficient, and safe on the sports field and the battle field. Although Sorin never served in the arms forces, his gear is changing the game to provide readiness and rebuilding to the veterans prior to, during and after their deployments to far off, hostile lands. Bert’s network of veterans, scientists, coaches and therapists allows for a combination of expertise and support, and has been changing lives on both sides of the table. Bert pushes each day to find the best in people, and to assist in their exploration of their potential and maximize their value to the cause.
