08 Dec 2022 | Women in Digital Marketing - Linking up Great Minds | 00:28:19
Lee-Ann is back with another podcast. This time, featuring two lovely ladies from LinkUnite, an exclusive invite-only women’s retreat and digital marketing forum that sounds like the perfect combination of a girls’ night of breaking the glass ceiling. “Dedicated to lifting up female founders in the digital industry.” Founder and CEO, Amanda Farris and President and COO Sara Malo will be joining Lee-Ann to talk about empowering women in the digital marketing industry. Amanda has worked in tech, real estate, finance, architecture, and design industries and is now sharing her skills in marketing and global communications with the wider world. Sara has been in the marketing industry for 22 years, a topic she regularly talks about in her blog as well as on respected podcasts. With such a women-centred podcast, we’re asking, how can women excel in the affiliate marketing industry? Are there any ways that women can help each other excel in the affiliate industry? And why would more women in affiliate marketing be beneficial to the industry as a whole? What can women do to help each other in the affiliate marketing industry? Well, if we’re to take LinkUnite as an example, that concept came about with a simple question between two women, Amanda and Sara: are there any events that cater to women in affiliate marketing? Amanda said of her career history, and contribution to women in the industry, “I have basically just meandered my way into really driving home the female initiatives in our industry and uplifting the women in the digital marketing space.” And that starts with simply having the courage to speak up and team up. LinkUnite started as a partnership, and so can a lot of other endeavours. We definitely have a side effect of women in the workplace trying to prove themselves coming to the conclusion that they have to do it alone. Not true. And this podcast gets into the need for partnerships across the genders. Sara says: “Our events that we have that right now, like our event in December, it's women only, but our biggest partners are actually, uh, men.” Amanda adds: “The one-day events that we want to do next year, we want those to be co-ed. We want there to be collaboration, you know, any way that they want to participate and be involved.” Partnerships and teamwork are definitely the key to driving inclusivity, and women aren’t the only ones that can support each other – but events like LinkUnite certainly go a long way to promoting the comradery in the industry. How can women excel in the affiliate marketing industry? If we were to take gender stereotypes and run with them, women have a lot of strength in the affiliate marketing management industry. It takes almost a parent’s touch. You have to have the assertiveness of the nuclear family father to ask for what you want, but the mother’s ability to nurture a relationship and compromise where you need to. This is clear in Amanda, who tells aspiring affiliate managers: “You don't have to have the education, all the certifications or anything to really hop in. You just have to have creativity and a hard work ethic and you can really get anywhere you want to go. And I think that the story sharing aspect is shared experiences is the quickest way for people to learn, grow, and evolve.” How can more women in affiliate marketing management help the industry as a whole? In asking about the industry as a whole, Lee-Ann said: “I deal with affiliate account managers in our training course that are burnt out, they don’t know how to progress, they don’t know where their careers are going, they feel like they’ve landed a job that is constantly asking more and more of them, but they have new ideas to.” And Amanda had a great insig

23 Dec 2022 | The Elevate Summit Vol 1: B2B Affiliate Programs: How to Elevate your B2B affiliate partnerships and drive more sales to your brands | 00:28:28
We’re back and raring to go! In our first podcast of the season, Lee-Ann is discussing B2B affiliate programs and how they differ from brand to brand marketing. She will be joined by, not one guest, but many industry peers that all weigh in with their insights on the matter as we launch volume 1 of a set of panels from our Elevate Summit. Joining Lee-Ann this week is Nikita Zhitkevich, Director of Channel Partnerships at PartnerStack, Jason Lilien, Senior Director at All Inclusive Marketing, Robin Albrecht, Affiliate Partnerships Manager in Digital Marketing at BigCommerce, and Marthe Berlin, Publisher Director at Impact.com. Keep listening for some intriguing insights to the affiliate marketing industry. So, what are the different B2B marketing elements that you can explore as a business? Should you go with B2B marketing, brand to brand marketing, partnerships, collaborations? We’re breaking them all down here for you to come to the best conclusion. B2B marketing B2B marketing is used as an umbrella term for the many pockets of affiliate marketing that can occur between different businesses. But when you pull the idea apart you might come away with different concepts. As it stands, B2B marketing is for B2B businesses. Businesses that have a product or service for other businesses and therefore need to market directly to them. The differences between this and other affiliate marketing concepts will become obvious as we go. For the basics, it is best to compare it to B2C marketing. B2C, or business to customer, marketing, is what we all know best: a company trying to sell the everyday consumer something. When adapting from B2C to B2B it mainly comes down to perspective in your language. All your language is geared towards improving a company’s customer’s life, and how they can help their customers you’re your product/service, rather than directly improving a customer’s life, like a B2C company would. Brand to brand marketing Brand to brand marketing is different from business to business marketing in a number of ways. For one, a brand doesn’t have to represent a company. An influencer or an affiliate can be a brand. So if we were to think of it in those terms, you can imagine one YouTuber marketing a decent mic to a Twitch streamer: brand to brand. But that’s more limiting than the entirety of brand to brand marketing. It’s more like a collaboration between businesses. A brand to brand marketing strategy, as Marthe Berlin explains, “is two brands working together to target their specific audiences or their respective audiences and ensuring that they have incentivized purchases from one another”. How it differs from B2B or business to business marketing, as Jason Lilien explains, is in the fact that “B2B is very much a business targeting affiliates that then target other businesses.” How do these concepts benefit you? A business looking into affiliate marketing can benefit from both of these concepts in different ways. Depending on the industry you’re in, B2B marketing might be the best choice, and B2B affiliates can allow you to narrow your target down to the people most likely to use your business. But partnerships online are always beneficial, so it’s important to look into this option. It will mean creating content together that is targeted at demographics that you share, but aren’t in competition with for the best results. 29 Dec 2022 | The Elevate Summit Vol 2: The CMO’s Playbook | 00:37:33
Elevate Summit Vol 2: The CMO’s Playbook Continuing our Christmas hits in affiliate marketing, we’re looking at another great take from our Elevate Summit: how performance marketing is being adopted into brand management structures. Featuring insights from panel members, Helen Southgate from Acceleration Partners, Stephanie Harris from PartnerCentric, Seb Bardin from Unilever, and Matt Frary from The Partner Agency. This panel of great marketing minds is discussing with Lee-Ann the broad definitions that are lost on modern CMOs and how they can apply modern affiliate marketing methods. Listen here for the full details. What can we take into 2023? In order to give you the most up-to-date and detailed CMO’s Playbook, we’re looking at tips that you can learn from 2022 and take into 2023. Complete with insights from our Elevate Summit panel members. So, what’s to be taken into the future? Stephanie Harris: “Performance doesn’t mean there is no upfront investment.” The first piece of CMOs of the affiliate marketing agency is to make sure you are putting in as much as you intend to get out of your marketing campaign. Stephanie says, “Analysis that can be done to ensure that you and the decision makers in your company feel comfortable and confident that the investment is going to generate the return that you need, or that you understand what you as a business need to work on first before you can see that return when you enter the affiliate space.” Helen Southgate: “You get out what you put in.” Echoing her concept somewhat, Helen adds that you get out what you put in in terms of time investment and effort. But you shouldn’t be above outsourcing if you need to. Helen says, “I think if you leave an affiliate program to run, it doesn't run very well. It's stagnant and so you have to keep working at it. And - I think it's a plug considering this - a few agencies on this, like getting outside advice, expert advice, which is massively beneficial to everyone I think.” Matt Frary: “This is a human relationship-based business.” It’s important for CMOs to remember that affiliate marketing is all about creating relationships. Relationships between affiliate and manager, between brands, between affiliates and users, and more. Matt says, “I think we need to realize that although we want this to be zeros and ones and the industry is very data based, we need to realize really what we are in here is the relationship and people business. And part of that is reaching out, that's part of partnering, that's part of using the resources around us being willing to try things with other people. It’s not folding our arms and saying that will never work. … So, we have to get out of our own ways.” Seb Bardin: “End-to-end campaigns are challenging the status quo.” Seb, on the other hand, likes to plan for the future. Seb says, “From a brand, from a performance, perspective, yes, of course we want to understand our brand metrics, but also when it comes more to performance, where is the autumn coming as part of this journey?” If you are interested in more affiliate and social media marketing insights, take a look at our blog for all the latest news and advice.
