17 Jun 2021 | Mez McConnell on Acts 29 and 20schemes | 00:29:30
When we imagine Scotland, we might think of castles, rugged hills, or reformers like John Knox. But in Scotland’s housing schemes—inner-city neighborhoods burdened by poverty and crime—the reality is very different. These schemes are in desperate need of local, Bible-preaching churches. Through Church in Hard Places, Acts 29 works closely with 20schemes, a ministry seeking to plant healthy, multiplying churches of gospel light in the darkest corners of Scotland.
Mez McConnell joins the podcast today to discuss church planting in Scotland through 20schemes and Acts 29. Mez is one of the pastors of Niddrie Community Church in Edinburgh and the founder of 20schemes. He’s written several books, worked in inner-city areas in England, Scotland, and Brazil, and has a particular passion for training men and women for ministry in this context.

15 Sep 2022 | Tim Bice on Installing Elders | 00:39:57
The biblical precedence of elders leading our churches is clear. Good elders add value and are a gift to those they serve. It’s difficult to have a healthy church without healthy leaders, which is why the vetting process must not be careless. Installing unqualified men may lead to harm for all involved. Getting this right is crucial for leaders and churches.
Today we hear from Tim Bice, lead teaching pastor of Greenbriar Church in Albany, Georgia. Tim planted Greenbriar in 2008. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Liberty University. He is also the regional director for Acts 29 Georgia and Florida panhandle. He and his wife, Jaye, have four children.

Acts 29 cares deeply about the spiritual and emotional health of our pastors and their wives. Ministry constantly pelts pastors with hectic demands but, if married, their wives and families are their primary responsibility before the Lord. How can husbands better care for their wives, and wives for their husbands, to encourage family and ministry health for the long term? And when is it time to get outside help?
Dwayne Bond joins the podcast today to discuss how Acts 29 is helping ministry couples care for each other well. Dwayne serves Acts 29 as our director of pastoral care and is the lead and planting pastor of Wellspring Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. Dwayne has a Ph.D. in professional counseling, a master’s in counseling and discipleship, another master’s in religion, and a bachelor’s in finance. He has been married to Leslie for more than 25 years, and they have three children.

09 Jun 2022 | Plant, Ready, Aim with Noel Heikkinen | 00:37:32
In Acts 29, our hope is not only to plant healthy, multiplying churches, but also that these churches become multigenerational. Riverview Church, also known as “Riv,” was planted at Michigan State University in 1977 by a small team of planters from Iowa. Today, it’s a multi-site church with four venues in the midwest and has sent pastors to serve all over the world, including Ukraine, Brazil, and two countries in East Asia, with 58 churches planted by the churches they’ve planted.
Joining me on today’s episode is Noel Heikkinen, pastor of Riverview Church in Lansing Michigan. Riverview is celebrating her 45th birthday this year, so we’ve invited Noel to share their story to encourage us in church planting for the long haul. Noel is the pastor of Riverview and is also the US Midwest regional executive director for Acts 29. He and his wife, Grace, met at Michigan State University and have four adult children.

17 Feb 2022 | Hunter Beaumont on Ministry Faithfulness for the Long Haul | 00:41:04
Ministry is a joy but also a burden. It’s a calling from the Lord that we cannot sustain apart from him. When we’re young in church planting and optimistic at the start of something new, we might know in our heads that it won’t always feel so exciting—but still, we’re excited. But as months and years pass, hard times can wear us down. Ministry challenges, pressures, failures, and heartaches assail us; we realize this whole church planting / pastoral ministry thing is way beyond us. How do we keep going in faithful gospel ministry?
Hunter Beaumont joins the podcast today to discuss ministry faithfulness for the long haul. Hunter is the lead pastor of Fellowship Denver Church in central Denver, CO. He has a Master of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary, was a CPA in his previous life, and claims to be “mediocre” at several Colorado pursuits such as snow skiing, cycling, and fly fishing.

There are many issues that compete for a church planter’s attention and energy when establishing a new church. Location, finances, community engagement, web design, and vision casting to name a few. But it’s the telling of the ancient story that leads to transformation in people’s lives. Planters desiring to impact their communities for Christ must prioritize the public proclamation of the Scriptures.

24 Feb 2022 | Fundraising for Your Church Plant | 00:34:02
Planting healthy, multiplying churches can be costly. In the early stages of church planting, few things occupy a planter’s mind more than finances. A new church’s noble vision to reach its city can be hindered by a lack of resources. This is why fundraising is an essential part of strategic planting. While most pastors receive significant training in biblical theology, many are ill-equipped in fundraising.
Acts 29 pastors Travis Cunningham and Adam Muhtaseb join the podcast to discuss how church planters can gain confidence in fundraising. Travis planted Story Church in Rancho Cucamonga, California and Adam planted Redemption City Church in Baltimore, Maryland.

19 Jan 2023 | Josh Patterson on Leading a Church Staff | 00:37:44
When we talk about church planting, we often discuss vision casting, mission, and context. But churches also need a good team to lead in the daily ministry. Pastors are tasked with building a cohesive team, resolving conflicts, and doing all they can to make sure everyone is focused and working toward the goal of making disciples of Jesus Christ. But if you’ve never led a church staff before, where do you begin? Who should you hire first? What should staff meetings look like?
To help answer these questions, we’re joined by Josh Patterson. Josh serves as a Lead Pastor of The Village Church in Flower Mound, TX. Josh received his Doctorate in Executive Leadership from Southern Seminary and is also a co-author of the book, “Creature of the Word.”

06 Apr 2023 | Tony Merida on the Future of Preaching | 00:39:11
In 1857, the novelist Anthony Trollope wrote, “There is, perhaps, no greater hardship at present inflicted on mankind in civilized and free countries, than the necessity of listening to sermons.” He goes on to describe the “preaching clergyman” as “the bore of the age.”
Preaching has always had its haters. We see this in the Scriptures and throughout the history of the church. So, is there a future for preaching?
In this recording of Dr. Tony Merida’s main session teaching at the Acts 29 Advance Conference in Raleigh, North Carolina, he says there is a future for preaching because the theological convictions which undergird preaching are timeless. He identifies five convictions that drive one’s commitment to preach God’s Word and proposes a model for preachers to follow.

There’s nothing like sitting down and listening to an experienced pastor share some of his lessons from a life of gospel ministry. We all need to be reminded of sustaining truth on this road. Like the roll-call of names in Hebrews 11, faithful pastors point us to the unchanging, eternal, and sufficient faithfulness of our God. As he kept and used these men and women, he will keep and use us for his glory.
Steve Treichler joins the podcast today to discuss lessons in ministry through 25 years of pastoring and planting. Steve is the senior pastor of Hope Community Church in Minneapolis, MN, which he planted in 1996. He serves as the associate regional director for the Midwest region in Acts 29 US, is married to Carole, and has three grown children. He enjoys flyfishing, duck hunting, remodeling & woodworking, brewing beer, and smoking quality cigars in his free time.

Christian entertainment often gets a bad rap. It’s either seen as cheesy, irrelevant or promoting a dishonest view of the faith. But The Chosen, a television series on the ministry of Jesus which debuted in 2018, seems to stand in a category of its own, being hailed as “Christian America’s Must-See TV Show '' by The Atlantic. The series, which is in its third season, is the highest crowd-funded media project of all time and has had 300 million viewers around the world.
Dallas Jenkins, creator, director, and co-writer of The Chosen series, joins the podcast to discuss the show's impact and success. Jenkins is a graduate of the University of Northwestern - St. Paul where he met his wife, Amanda. The two also released an interactive study guide of The Chosen in 2021.

10 Jun 2021 | Matt Chandler: Remain Faithful - Session 1 | 00:46:18
"Remain Faithful" was the title and theme of Acts 29’s US virtual conference in 2020. With so many disruptions to “normal” life, we knew many church leaders were feeling tired, discouraged, and ready to give up. Each session from Matt Chandler, Ray Ortlund, Tony Merida, Tory Mayo, Jen Wilkin, and Rudy Rubio encouraged us to hang on, endure, keep going, keep making disciples, stay the course, go the distance with Christ.
For this week’s episode of The Acts 29 Podcast, we want to feature the message our president, Matt Chandler, gave at our 2020 virtual conference. Listen as Matt talks about how vital it is to know our risen Lord, to live and serve from our union with him, and walking with him through whatever comes our way.
