11 Oct 2020 | THE '90s Podcast - Season 07 - Episode 06 - Batman Forever (1995) | 00:57:59
WHATS UP EVERYBODY??!!?? This week the dynamic Duo of John and Sarah get together and talk about a movie that almost killed not only a franchise, but a Genre. Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever. They look at the decisions that lead to Tim Burton leaving the project, and how the original cast changed. We look at EVERYONE who could have played the key roles, and how on paper, the Cast and Crew was perfect for a movie at the time. We go over the “plot” and see how things could have gotten so bad, so quick. We discuss behind the scenes, and how the main cast could not get along, and how nobody came out of this looking good. We also explain why (ironically) the soundtrack is one of the greatest in movies, but why this may be one to avoid. Also John give more information on the Because Maybe 2020 charity event, an update on our upcoming Oddworld series, and the usual bits and nonsense. The Because Maybe Mustache and Mullet Drive 2020 is underway! Check out our Fundraiser Page for more information. All proceeds will go to the Movember Foundation! 03 Jun 2020 | THE 90's Podcast - S06-E08 - Final Fantasy 7 (1997), 8 (1999) & 9 (2000) | 01:09:02
WHAT’S UP EVERYBODY – This week John is joined by Dexter Duran as we sit down and talk about Final Fantasy 7, 8 and 9. We talk about what the games are, from traditional fantasy, to futuristic dystopia. We talk about the ever changing magic system, and how FF 9 was the gateway to the series for new players. Dexter explains why grinding is important, as well as a discussion on modern remakes with save states, and cheats in the modern realm. We explain the morality of the games, as well as why it was mirrored in Japanese culture, and how good vs evil was the backbone of the games. We also talk about MMO’s, why John didn’t get into the series, and how the gameplay evolved, and also stayed the same, and of course the music, which is considered the greatest music in video game history.
John also spends a few minute talking about the next season of The 90’s Podcast, and what is happening in the world today.

06 Sep 2020 | THE '90s Podcast - Season 07 - Episode 01 - Blur - Parklife (1994) | 01:16:23
WHATS UP EVERYBODY??!!?? This week John and Sarah sit down and talk about the catalyst for the explosion of Britpop – Parklife by Blur. We look at a band who were tipped to be the next big thing, but fell away, only to pick up at the right moment. We redefine the word “Punk” in music, as the band kept their sound, in spite of the requests to change from the management and label. As we go track by track, we analyze Damon Alburn’s style of writing at the time, and how his penache for writing small stories made for some great songs, and some average ones. We also go over the title track, which made its way into mainstream British culture, and reignited a fued in the most public way. Finally we talk about what could be the bands most epic song, from a source which is probably the most boring. We also have news on the Saucer Section podcast, and a return of the ‘90s Gamer. 24 May 2020 | THE 90's Podcast - S06-E07 - Oasis: Be Here Now (1997) | 01:44:56
WHATS UP EVERYBODY??!!?? This week John and Sarah sit down and talk about the black sheep of the Oasis catalogue – Be Here Now. We go track by track, as we discuss why some tracks are great, some tracks are bad, and some tracks were missing something. We discuss the length of the album, and was it too long, or not long enough? We discuss how the aura of a song can be made, and why (in John’s opinion) 1 song had a negative aura, and one a positive. We discuss how needless instrumentals can drive someone crazy, and how a road trip to see the band from Louisiana to Fairfax VA was harrowing for all the wrong reasons. We also speak about the prelude to the album, and how Oasis blew their next to last chance at cracking the US before the album came out. The disastrous MTV Unplugged session from a logistical standpoint, and the recording of the album, which was rife with arguments, paparazzi, and an amount of drug use that horrified a record executive, who was known for partying. 19 Apr 2020 | THE THE 90's Podcast - S06-E04 - Genesis Classics #1 - Road Rash II, NBA Jam: Tournament Edition, Streets of Rage | 01:16:44
WHAT’S UP EVERYBODY!?! This week John is joined by Gregg as we talk about 3 of the best games released on the Sega Genesis/Sega Mega Drive. We talk about the weird sounds, mechanics (both literal and gaming), and levels of Road Rash II, and how it was a great upgrade from the original. We talk about how hard, fun NBA Jam was, as well as some fantasy matches that could have happened, if the NBA had not been spoilsports. We then look at the gold standard of ‘90s side scrolling Beat-em-ups Streets of Rage. There we look at the great soundtrack, the difficult final boss, and the “3 ringed” circus of characters, that meant there was something for everyone.
Then Sarah joins John as we talk about the giant COVID-19 shaped elephant in the room we haven’t been ignoring, and how we have been impacted in terms of our schedule, and what to expect from the BM Network going forward.
Finally have news of a special show from our friends The Hollow Decks.

WHATS UP EVERYBODY??!!?? This week John and Gregg sit down and talk about 45 of the most popular animated shows, ranging from Saturday Morning Cartoons, PBS Educations shows, and shows that were made for Grown-ups. We talk about how some are fantastic, but why they’re not considered the top of the pile, and some who’s position will make you mad. We will look at how a unique and fun relatable show, was bought and bastardised by a new company. We look at why MTV knew how to do quality animated shows, as opposed to Cartoon Network, and how one man’s movie career lead to 3 god awful shows. That and Gregg and I talk about how to get backstage at a show, and the best way to meet your heroes! Podbean | Apple Podcasts | Spotify | YouTube | iHeart Radio | Stitcher Radio | Tune In

03 May 2020 | THE 90's Podcast - S06-E05 - Man on the Moon (1999) | 00:59:34
WHAT’S UP EVERYBODY!?! This week John and Sarah sit down and talk about the Andy Kaufman biopic Man on the Moon. We look at how a comedy icon took on the role of a comedy icon, and almost lost himself, and lost a few friends along the way. We analyze the behind the scenes antics and see if the man we see on screen is ACTUALLY Andy Kaufman, or just the image that we are meant to believe. We look at how wrestling legend Jerry “The King” Lawler took to Carry’s portrayal, and how a wad of spit almost sent Carry to the hospital. We discuss the role of Courtney Love, and how one of the 90’s most controversial people, was on such good behavior, that she stayed away from the insanity. That plus discussions on Taxi, 80’s SNL, an obligatory mention of Tony Clifton, and we discuss the ultimate Kaufman question: Did he fake his own death?
Also we discuss the inner workings and staff of a “Bahamian” based Burger King, and a reminder TO STAY INDOORS AND WASH YOUR DAMN HANDS!!!

04 Oct 2020 | THE 90s Podcast - Season 07 - Episode 05 - Beavis and Butthead | 01:40:09
**DISCLAIMER** - John and Gregg are not role models. While they are human, they are about to delve into the world of the most uncouth of cartoons. Some of the things they will talk about and language they use to describe things would cause pearls to be clutched, blood pressure to rise, and hopefully not get John deported. To put it another way, don’t listen at work or around kids at home. Listener discretion is advised... Buttmunch! WHATS UP EVERYBODY??!!?? This week John and Gregg sit down and talk about the 2nd best cartoon of the 90’s. MTV’s Beavis and Butthead. We look at the characters and how Butthead was supposed to be the star, with Beavis as his sidekick. We discuss how rights issues scrapped one of the planned spin offs, but how the replacement was well worthy of it being a standalone. We look at the top episodes, the controversies that almost cancelled the show before it could get up and running, Mike Judge the creator, everything you could think of! Also John give more information on the Because Maybe 2020 charity event, an update on our upcoming Oddworld series, and the usual bits and nonsense. Thanks to Gregg Gregory for taking part this week. We also look at how perfect Alicia Silverstone was for the part, how “Rich People” problems are displayed as not that different to “Normal People” problems. We comment on how Cher has her “Priotitties” in order, and how this movie MAY be responsible for the Kardashians.
We also have a few thoughts on the US Open final, the recent hurricane in North Carolina, and a display right at the end as to how sleepy we were…

01 Jul 2018 | THE '90s Podcast - Season 03- Episode 07 - 90's Video Games: Part 2 - Genre's of the 90's | 01:15:59
A sick John, and Gregg continue their trip down memory lane this week, as the conversation turns inward, as we discuss the great video games of the 90’s. Hear or opinions on how genre’s changed, and what were some of our favourite games in the era. We talk everything from the gore fest that was Doom to every British football fan’s “Dungeons and Dragons for Jocks” Football/Championship Manager. There are some sacrilegious statements that gamers may not like (Shaq Fu = Not THAT bad), and a hat tip to the folks making video gaming review content.
Also John shows why he shouldn’t be trusted with football predictions, and we have a few words to say about the USA ’94, along with other bits and nonsense.

We discuss hyper violence in games that the time, how Nintendo and Sega too their eye off the ball. We go a little into modern and 2000’s gaming (For contextual purposes), as well as a look that the community at large. We point out how developers grew up, but forgot the younger folks for a time, and how parents are dumb when ignoring ESRB ratings for games.
John also talks about what grinds his gears as a proud Welshman, and we look at a product with a great function, but a horribly silly name.

This week John is Joined by Gregg, as we spend a while talking about Donkey Kong Country. We look at how the game was revolutionary for its time, and how it is underrated in terms of its genre. We talk about a unique playstyle, as well as how the SNES in the US was different to the UK version, as well as John’s theory as to “Emily Osment Syndrome”, and how it relates to Donkey Kong. We also look at how it was made, how these apes imitated horses. And head off on many tangents as well.
Also we talk home studios, Street Games, and if John should partake in the phenomenon that is Fortnight.

This episode is rated explicit, and is not suitable for minors, and adults who have issues with bad language, and highly adult themes. You may listen at your own discretion. This week, John is joined by Ben Tynan as we sit and talk about all 6 movies in Kevin Smith’s magnum opus, The View Askewniverse. We talk about each film, and in depth about some of its technical aspects, as well as the behind the scenes. We talk about how Clerks was the first movie of its kind, as well as how some of the topics were never heard of at the time. We talk about Mallrats, and how its plot was awful, but how it was a cartoon of a movie. We look at Chasing Amy, and while it hasn’t aged well in terms of morality, on the surface, but actually could be considered a commentary on today’s dating society. We talk about how Dogma is a very underrated movie, and the ludicrousness of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and how it all comes full circle back to Clerks 2. A Big Thank you to Ben for taking part. 01 Nov 2017 | THE '90s Podcast - Season 01- Episode 06 - Britpop: Part 3 - Knocked Down | 01:34:47
This week John and Sarah get a little long winded, and document the final throws of the Britpop movement. We look at the shambolic Brit Awards of 1996, the gigs at Knebworth Park where Oasis took their crown as Kings of Britpop, and the steep slope that followed for all the major acts. Also, we talk about who was possibly the biggest British band in the USA—believe us it’s not who you think—and have a scientific debate on if the Spice Girls were a Britpop act. We also have an update on the Movember fundraiser, and take a look back at one of the more controversial statements of the Britpop era.

WHATS UP EVERYBODY??!!?? This week John and Gregg sit down and talk about 3 of the most popular fighting/combat games from the 90’s. Killer Instinct, Street Fighter II, and Tekken 2. We explain why we always go for game #2, as opposed to game #1 in most cases. There is discussion on why these 3 are better than Mortal Kombat, and why we didn’t talk too much about that. We also discuss how a simple plot can make or break a game. We also go over what each of the games brought to a Genre that was getting incredibly stale. We also speak about the level of “Realness” of the games, and how some things could take you out of your suspension of disbelief. WHATS UP EVERYBODY??!!?? This week, John and Gregg talk about 3 classic games on the SNES. Pilotwings, F-Zero, and the infamous Shaq-Fu. All three games meant a lot to different people. Where as F-Zero is considered a stone cold classic, Shaq Fu is not as well regarded. We go over all the points, gameplay, and notes of interest. We discuss the uncessesary plot added to an overall good game in Pilotwings. We explain how it was “Template” game, and how it used the SNES’ platform to full effect. We switch gears to talk about one of the most vilified games in history, and go over the plot, characters, and influence that dragged Shaq Fu into the ground. We then finish up with an explanation on what F-Zero was a wonderful game, a true SNES classic, and one of the best racing games of all time! 25 Aug 2019 | THE 90's Podcast - S05-E03 - The Simpsons: Part 3 | 01:32:47
The 90’s podcast returns with our final discussion on The Simpsons. John and Gregg sit down and talk about some of the more juicer elements of the show. Did the Simpsons really predict everything? We look at the skewer they gave to the 90’s presidents of America, and how if you were offered a cameo, take it. We look at the controversies surrounding their stereotyping, as well as an attempt to be “woke” backfired. We also have a word or 2 on the new UK Prime Minister, Larry the Cable Guy, and all of the usual bits and pieces. A Big Thank you to Gregg for taking part. 01 Sep 2019 | THE 90's Podcast - S05-E04 - Grand Theft Auto (DOS) (1997) | 01:17:17
John and Gregg return to talk about a video game that lead to a series of games, which are proudly banned in Brazil. The original Grand Theft Auto. See how this humble little cops and robbers game, turned into a mega franchise overnight. We look at the weird inspirations for the game, as well as some of the subtle quirks that made it stand out from others. We also have a word or 2 on Gregg’s other music project Beta 47, update on our current streaming status, and some other bits and nonsense. A Big Thank you to Gregg for taking part. 22 Sep 2019 | THE 90's Podcast - S05-E05 - Green Day: Dookie (1994) | 01:17:53
After our 2 week break, we’re back! This week John is joined by Sarah as we sit and talk about the most childishly named, yet surprisingly deep Green Day album Dookie. We look at the songs, and how Billie Joe Armstrong’s heart and soul are laid bare. We look at how some songs are considered anthems, and while others are a several minute blast of noise, and how the album taught a generation of youngsters that it was ok to be yourself, and how “Girls, Girls, Girls” became outdated with more Gay or Bi front men in rock music. Also we look at the Sony vs Marvel debacle, Football Chants at the darts, and a whole load of bits and nonsense. Be sure to subscribe to the Because Maybe podcast for latest episodes! 11 Aug 2019 | THE 90's Podcast - S05-E01 - The Simpsons: Part 1 | 01:22:49
After what feels like an eternity, THE 90’s PODCAST is back! This episode, John is joined by Gregg Gregory, to take a look at perhaps the greatest cartoon in the history of television… The Simpsons. We look at the humble backgrounds of a show, which was created in 20 minutes. We look at the characters, and how they became pop culture icons. We track the shows running gags, and the general themes and humor of the show. Also we have a few housekeeping issues. Why we have rebranded to the Because Maybe Network, Where has John been for the past few months, what work goes in to a show like this, and a quick nod to one of the most unintentionally funny moments in podcasting history. A Big Thank you to Gregg for taking part. If you wish to learn more about friends of the show The Hollow Decks, which features Gregg, check out their links below.
