09 May 2024How to Change Your Mindset Towards Aging00:43:56

How many times have you referred to yourself as ‘too old’ or ‘too young’ for something? Have you blamed your forgetfulness on a ‘senior moment’ or your sore neck on ‘being over 30’?

I’ll be honest, before I found out about Ashton Applewhite’s work, they were comments I made ALL the time. But, remarks like these as well as a whole host of other behaviors are acts of ageism - something Ashton calls the ‘last socially sanctioned prejudice’ & it’s damaging to everyone because guess what? We’re all aging!

So how can we push back against this discrimination and age positively in a society that’s obsessed with youth? That’s what we’re going to tackle today.

Ashton, is a journalist, pro aging radical and the author of This Chair Rocks - A Manifesto Against Anti-Aging.

Today - a conversation that will likely make you re-think the way you share about the children in your life online & it's one that's particularly relevant over Christmas & New Year as the snapping, posting & recording goes into overdrive.

Things have changed considerably since I, and probably you. Now, raising kids is a totally different ball game - children are connected to the internet in one way or another from the day they’re born & their safety online is a huge concern.

Of course, teaching children how to be mindful of technology is vital, but it’s just as important that we, as adults, consider what we share about the children in our lives online.

06 Apr 2023Grey Area Drinking: How to Re-evaluate Your Relationship with Alcohol00:42:45

The morning Sarah Rusbatch realised that her relationship with alcohol needed to change, she woke up in blood stained bed sheets with her 5 year old daughter peering at her face asking her what had happened.

This sounds like an extreme story, but Sarah says that her relationship with alcohol would be familiar to SO many of us.

BUT the night before she’d been at a 40th birthday party where the wine was flowing, she’d nipped outside for a cigarette and when she reached down to stub it out, she toppled over her heels and landed face first on the concrete.

I’m sure you have a similar story - one where a few two many drinks has left you feeling anxious & embarrassed. I know I do.

Sarah says that morning left her with an overwhelming feeling that there was another way of living.

In 2019 she quit booze completely & is now an accredited Grey Area Drinking Coach.

Before I fell pregnant, I honestly couldn’t have taken less interest in pregnancy, birth or babies & for the first two thirds of my pregnancy my attitude remained the same. Until I read a book & that book sparked an obsession and sent me deep down the rabbit hole and I am now utterly obsessed with the science & magic of birth. The book I read was about hypnobirthing.

If you like me, before I read the book, think that means I’ll have to invite a man with a pendulum and a shiny black cape to my birth. You couldn’t be more wrong. Learning about hypnobirthing and reimagining the possibilities for birth has left me feeling empowered and dare I say it - excited for this huge life event.

So if you have a pregnant person in your life - please send them this conversation, they are going to be eternally grateful to you.

The woman responsible for my new obsession is Siobhan Miller, she’s the Founder of the Positive Birth Company.

In this episode, we’re going to give you an introduction to hypnobirthing & teach you some practical tools that will absolutely make your birth better.-
