10 Jun 2022Terror Zone X Upstate Records exclusive announcement and interview with IllMatic.00:35:36

Hi, thanks for checking out this exclusive announcement podcast with Upstate Records newest band, Detroits own, ILLMATIC!

Some of these band has members that have been in the punk/hardcore/metal scene for over 2 decades. They've played in bands such as The Alliance, Strength N Honor and quite a few others.

You can find their 4 song demo on all streaming platforms and YouTube. If not, ask me. Joe, the front man has also recorded DOZENS if not, over a hundred songs. I may be exaggerating! He's a great rapper too. Part of a Detroit/Canadian group called Suicide Kings.

Thanks to Upstate and Illmatic for letting me share this awesome news!

Share the fuck out of it and wait for more real soon!

King of Clubz

https://youtu.be/F6UTgS4H7Ok

In this episode we dive deep into the journey of a long time Detroit straightedge musician. John has been in the hardcore scene since the mid 90s and has done it all. We talk about his path to Straightedge and his musical influences growing up and what got him into hardcore.

He has lived a hell of a life from living in Iowa for college and starting a band out there to meeting and booking shows for some of the most known hardcore bands that were just passing through and eventually moving back to Detroit.

Most notably to me he was the guitarist and would eventually end up singing for one of the hardest and most insane Detroit Straighedge bands, xTYRANTx. We get into a lot of the history of that and we talk about his past bands and adventures on tour. He is only 1 piece of the xTYRANTx legacy and there is so much more to get into. Respect to all involved.

His newest project he is involved in, is called Born of Hate, with members of Walls of Jericho, Cold as Life and King of Clubz. Heavy as fuck! Link at top of page.

Terror Zone Instagram https://www.instagram.com/terrorzonepodcast

Everyone knows and loves Lenny. Theres's not much I have to say to convince you to listen to this episode. Lenny has been in some great bands including Earthmover, Poison Tongues and Cast in Fire.    We talk about his time in the hardcore scene and move into the direction of his decision to join the US military and become a field medic and moving on to the Medivac position where he's basically saving injured and wounded combat soldiers and bringing them to safety to get the proper treatment. Insane shit!

Well worth the listen. Hope to do this with him again eventually. Great guy!

Hyde- The Skys False Persona Album https://tribunalrecords.bandcamp.com/album/the-skys-false-persona

I wanted to have Joe Hyde on because his music has always made a buzz here in Detroit, whether it was Hyde, or the hip hop stuff. I can tell you first hand that some of the lyrics from The Alliance have stuck with me over the past 16 or so years because when you're hearing these things as an impressionable and suggestible teen, it can change the way you look and think about things. We're all shitheads and assholes but these types of bands are what make us. Maybe just a local band but certain hardcore bands influence humans. Yeah, I'm a fuckin fan.

If you go back and listen to any of the albums you will notice it's usually about friendship and loyalty and working harder. A lot of that might stick with you but it's actually harder to live those words. We can always work harder. Especially me!

But anyway this band has always been great, Joe has always been pretty chill and down to earth. I'm glad he took the time to come on because we talked about a bunch of things including the 6 months he spent in Thailand training Thai boxing locally and we talked a lot about that. Reallllly interesting stuff.

Please go check out his new album. You can get it everywhere including spotify and other stuff. And share my shit!

05 Jul 2021ep 18 Brenden from Over and Out Recordings01:59:06

This is a good one! We talk a lot about the passion for hardcore and how Detroit hc may have been a different place a even just 15 years ago. How it has evolved and how the music is still good and pure. We talk about vinyl because he has his own label and reissues and puts out bands content as well. Not for a paycheck, but for the love.

He is open and honest about hardcore and him growing as a person throughout the years of being in the scene. Being influenced by people but still leading your own path. Great conversation and check out his catalogue at www.bigcartel.overandoutrecordings.com

https://floridafrank.bigcartel.com/products

This is a big one boys and girls! Theres some people in the hardcore and metal scene that have rose above everyone else. Frank has been in plenty of staple hardcore bands the past 3+ decades and has earned his stripes. He is now the rhythm guitarist in the infamous Hatebreed! Crazy to think but it was interesting to learn how he ended up playing for them. Great stories and fun times were talked about! I loved chatting with him about everything. Also he has his own hot sauce but is currently out. You can also support him by going to his big cartel and checking out his line of guitar picks! Catch Hatebreed on tour this summer all over the place!

20 May 2024ep. 66[6] Pete Morcey [100 DEMONS]00:50:50

Super fun episode done with Joe, Cara, Lyric and Robbie from one of Detroits newest hardcore bands, ICED OUT. Something a little different but awesome is that they have a female singer! Not unheard of in hardcore but definitely not common! It is exciting what they bring to the table. Their 5 song ep will be out August 5th and I couldn't be more excited! 3 out of the 4 members are in other bands such as Enemy of God, Ground War and Big Deal. All extremely talented bands. Check them all out!

This is a crazy one because I have always been a big fan of The Suicide Machines and they've been around way longer than I have, and even before  THPS. Fun story on how they ended up on the original Tony Hawk Pro Skater game.

I thought this was a milestone for me because even though J is a down to earth, straight up punk rocker - he is huge to me. Everyone I have had on, has had an impact on the entire reason I'm doing this. I hop everyone enjoys this and it's an honor over and over again to talk to the people I have.

Thank you for checking it out.

This one is mostly for the home team! Marcos has always been solid to me and a homie to most. This conversation was exactly how I was hoping it would go. Just a pretty cool chill session just talking shit about hardcore and sharing memories. I wouldn't have had it any other way but I hope you guys can check out both of his bands High Alert and Loose Cannon. Loose Cannon has a show this upcoming Saturday in Grand Rapids and High Alert is doing a comeback/reunion/picking up where they left off show on August 20th at Parts and Labor in a Melvindale.

This episode was with my long time friend Robbie. He owns a pizza restaurant in Las Vegas called Guerilla Pizza and he's killing it! I met him from mutual friends at hardcore shows of course. He has a fascinating story about how he became a successful entrepreneur in the pizza industry and I'm glad I was able to spend sometime with him on his short and busy trip back to Michigan for the Easter holiday and his Birthday. We barely even covered hardcore if at all to be honest.

Obviously if you are or will be in the Las Vegas area, you need to check out his spot! It is inside the Hard Hat Lounge right outside of the Las Vegas strip.  Best Detroit Style out there!

I know it's been 2 months!!!

All good though! This time I had 2 of my homies on from Detroits own Smash Your Enemies. What a kick ass band! These dudes have been putting work into the Detroit music scene for decades. Jesse has been going to shows and in bands since the late 90s and has always been active. Brandon started SYE back in 2009 and has had its ups and down times throughout the years. Was once on Eulogy records and they are putting out their 4th album on March 4th 2022. You can pre order it on Upstate Records and also hear one of the new songs on Upstates bandcamp up above.

Thank you to all who have followed along over the past year and that has supported and shared! I look forward to doing more and spending time with people who love this shit as much as we do!!!!

Absolute fun episode to do with the NJHC giant, James STIKMAN of Fury of Five. At this point, if you're in to hardcore and you dont know who FOF is, you might as well turn around and leave. Jokes aside, they are heavy as fuck and bring their own style to hardcore that is untouchable and irreplaceable. One of a kind, and very unique in my opinion,

08 Mar 2021008 Zac Hillard, Flint Native, Straight Edge OG01:56:48

https://www.instagram.com/terrorzonepodcast/

Zac Hillard, ex cXc, FTS and motherfuckin' gangsta!

If there is one conversation I can recommend to anyone, it would for sure be this one. Zac was never in a band or has nothing to promote but we go into depth about having to earn his spot in the hardcore scene in Detroit and especially making room for the straightedge kids.

Zac is nothing short of a loyal friend and a great father these days. Back in the 90s and early 2000's he was the enforcer and guy to go to if there was ever any shit that popped off at a show in Detroit. Like I said, I did not know him and had the totally wrong impression. I was afraid of him, I didn't even want to make eye contact because he was literally the hardcore boogeyman.

He knew this, but he goes on to tell me that that was never his intent but he did have a chip on his shoulder for having to earn his spot in the scene and having to fight for what was his as well. He grew up involved in gangs in Flint then eventually started a crew of his own called the Flint Town Crazies. Are you kidding me?! Later only to join the infamous Detroit chapter of the Courage Crew Brotherhood.

Everyone has heard rumors and seen things online and whatever else but I learned a lot from Zac. We were in different generations of hardcore where he was about 10 years ahead of me. I missed the shit we talked about and I am ultimately grateful for what was already there for a lot of people my age that had just found hardcore in the early 2000's. I heard things but had no idea.

This got deep. We spoke on learning when it's time to call the quits and move on with your life. Especially if there's nothing here for you and you're not bettering yourself and growing with age. We spoke on suicide and abuse, fighting and getting shot at. Just a chaotic lifestyle and I didn't know the half of it. I'm sure most didn't. You're in for a treat. I am grateful for this conversation and I am glad we were honest with each other on numerous topics and I am happy he is doing so well in life.

This one was a long time in the making! If you know Jim or Justin you know this was a comeplete and amazing fun time it was. Unfortunately to other circumstances the other members were not able to join in on the nonsense. We talked quite a bit about the evolution of the band and just all around partying and stories from the boys.

I'm not gonna lie, things got pretty toasty towards the end but to be honest, these are the most fun podscasts to do. Let loose and get silly! The only thing I ask is that you check out the new PT album at the link above and come and support them when they play shows! These veterans will rip your tits off and drink beer out of em!

You already know by the title this is a banger! Mikey Hood has been involved in Hardcore for a very long time and has been through it all. We talk about the Westcoast hardcore scene and his relationship with Detroit. And of course we go over Victory Records fun stuff.

Lots of good stories and good talks about touring, guns and just insane people stuff. We're both crazy so it's what should be expected. We do talk about how his barber business has survived under the restrictions ongoing in California and opinions on what's actually happening.

You either agree or disagree and that's ok. I hope the listeners are as open minded as I am and don't hate people because they disagree with your politics or whatever the fuck you feel on ANY topic. Except racists, and pedophiles. We kill racists and torture pedophiles.

Please share or subscribe or whatever you're supposed to do to help a brother out.

02 Oct 2023ep. 53 RAMONA, JEFF AND COLD AS LIFE01:35:17

This is a bit different of an episode. I love the idea of having the whole band on to introduce them and we get to hear a small portion of their history in Detroit and how this amalgamation of Cold as Life came to fruition.

Ramona (Black Iris Booking) has been booking shows in Detroit and all over the place for over 2 decades at this point. She has a looong resume of top tier bands today that were just getting their foot in the door when she was their agent. She's done so much over the years and because it's not on stage or the internet, promoter most of the time do not get the credit they deserve.

Also big shoutouts to Jimmy and Curtis from The Crofoot and Edgemen printing. aka Tied Down boys. Also, all the bands involved get mad love for representing and celebrating with us in Detroit!

I hope you guys enjoy this episode and get to know the band a little bit before we're tearing each others heads off next Saturday!! Enjoy

01 Apr 2022ep. 27 Martin Stewart (Terror, Gods Hate, Donnybrook!, Xibalba)01:45:27

I have had Martin on my list of people to have a conversation with ever since I started writing things down well over a year ago preparing for this adventure. I am glad to finally sit and just talk some shit with him about his past bands and obciously what it's like being in a few of the biggest hardcore bands today.

It takes a lot of time and effort to be touring and practically playing full time with all of the bands he's in. I don't think he goes overlooked as an artist but I still don't know if he gets all the credit that he fully deserves. I'm proud to have talked with him and it's an honor to be able to take time and get to talk to the people that have been a part of my life for the past 17+ years.

Please give it a listen and share if you have the time!

03 Mar 2023ep. 43 Bill Bellottie (Hardcore Cares, Detroit Bully Corp., Photographer)01:30:02

I have Bill on today to talk about his upcoming Hardcore Cares benefit show that he has been putting on for years donating to different organizations and charities. This year his choice of charity is to the Lupus Foundation of Michigan. His had a hand in picking it because she is dealing with Lupus herself. There's no cure for it and you can learn about it in the podcast!

We also dive in to addiction and recovery because thats also a big part of his life as recovering alcoholic. If you yourself need help or know anyone - You always have people to talk to. Were here for you.

He cares so much about hardcore and the culture itself. He's been around for ages and has seen it all!

18 Jan 2021Terror Zone Podcast 001. Cold as Life, Jeff Gunnells and Roy Bates02:13:15

www.instagram.com/terrorzonepodcast

I asked Roy and Jeff to do my first podcast based on the fact that in my opinion they are one of the greatest Hardcore bands ever. Not just because they're from Detroit, because they're the hardest and most realest. Love em or hate em, what the band has gone through over the past 35 years or so can go up against any legacy of any other and come out on top. To me its a miracle that I was able to sit with 2 of the original founding members and talk some share some old stories because I've mentioned, it was well before my time, They were already done by time I got into hardcore in 2003ish. There is literally too much to go through with these guys and we will be having them on again to touch on more of the story. With this episode we wanted to go through the brief history of the Cold as Life. Believe me, we are going back in for details sooner or later. This was a good kick off episode to start my podcast off right in my opinion.

We also joined in with Dom from A389 Records and Guitarist in the legendary hardcore band Integrity. He has remastered and produced one of the greatest Cold as Life albums Born to Land Hard. It will be on vinyl, CD and available digitally later in 2021. Terror Zone Podcast will be available on almost all streaming platforms including iTunes and Spotify and Google Podcasts.

I only use Instagram for now but will take action as necessary. Please leave comments and suggestions or send messages to the Instagram. I am open to all ideas and I want to grow this with the scene, not just by myself.

This is for everyone who has ever stepped foot in a hardcore venue or anyone who has ever picked up a mic or a guitar and did something for Hardcore. I'm just trying to keep the conversation going...

Just do me a favor and subscribe and like the videos if you're into them. It'll help get the word out.

I hope not to torture you guys with a solo podcast but I wanted to try and do something different for once.  I'm just trying to shoot the shit, rather than have the interview type conversation. Let you know some things that I'm doing and rambling like an idiot. Check out the instagram and send me flyers! or email anything you want to the podcast address.

No video to this podcast, just a short audio version because I recorded with my shirt off, yuck. Let me know if this was a waste of time or not hahaha!

14 Jun 2021ep 017 Jeff Sanchez and Chris Trestain from LET IT DIE02:01:25

https://instagram.com/terrorzonepodcast

Well well well....

This is just crazy. I'm pleased to share this episode because these dudes have done so much for the hardcore scene over the years. Especially back in the early 00s. Jeff Sanchez and Chris Trestain go over their forming and insane years of their time with the band Let it Die. They are both very successful in what they do now but music is clearly their passion. While working within the field they still have sought time to do something great for Detroit and bring back great memories and create new ones who weren't lucky enough to witness a Let it Die in their prime.

Obviously, this is being posted with a flyer so you know we are going to talk about the awesome show that they are going to put on. I can't describe how awesome is that they are going out of their way and invited three other bands that aren't very active anymore to do a big reunion show, along with 4 bands that are foaming at the mouth to get stage time since this last year has been grinded to a halt.

This is just absolutely mind blowing. Get yourself insurance before October if you plan on going to this show. Y'all dead.

Been a long time coming getting Jeremy on the podcast! He's been around for quite a while and used to front a band called Fight it Out. Moral Pollution is filled with talented musicians that have been in many Michigan hardcore bands. I can't list them here because there is a contest where if you can name 7 of the bands first you'll get a free pair of tickets to the black xmas show Dec 30th.

29 Aug 2022ep. 37 Beast H8 INC01:34:16

This is one for the books! Been a long time in the making and I'm glad Beast took the time to stop by and talk about his time in the Detroit hardcore scene and everything H8 has done as a band. I could've talked for another 2 hours about H8 INC and everything that has gone on in Detroit since the 80s. Hopefully we can make it happen again! Amazing conversation and I hope yall like it too.

15 Aug 2022ep. 35 Schmo and Eckert (Poison Tongues)01:45:11

Poison Tongues is back! Schmo and Mike are fun dudes and we thought it would be great to have to come back on and just talk some shit talk about plans with the  band. They have a show coming up August 19th at Smalls Bar with Aztek the Barfly, Illmatic and Mass Death! Poison Tongues is underrated for their talent and I hope more of you will check em out live!

12 Aug 2024ep.71 Richie & Saffron (Hardcount/Slice)01:41:04

Richie is a cool ass hc dude who plays mad riffs, loves youtube demos and books shows (Oxygen Tank Booking)

Saffron does vocals in Slice, a sick ass band from Ohio who gets 100% Detroit HC love as well.  She can also probably kick your ass.

06 Jun 2023ep. 47 TIED DOWN V2 RECAP w/ Josh Barela (Enemy of God)01:36:25

Here we are. Cant believe this years Tied Down has came and gone already! The hype was amazing and it was all that we could have asked for as far as I'm concerned.  Shout out and a big thanks of course to Curtis and Jimmy and the whole team involved. It was great to see the tweaks made from last year and how they turned the volume way up to reach this potential. Can't wait to see what's in store for next year!

29 Sep 2023ep. 52 FREDDY CRECIEN [MADBALL]01:06:06

Jimmy Doom. Punk Rocker, Author, Actor, Bartender. This guy is fantastic and as real as it gets. I wanted to try and go back in time with Jimmy because he's been around a long time. Early 80s when it was still brand new. Shit compared to time, hardcore is still brand new. Nobody knows what they're doing and we all have our own outlook. That's the great thing. I'm going to keep this short because I am already late on it but thank you for sticking around! Share it or don't! Either way, thank you for the support after 12 episodes. More opportunities for you and I are on the horizon and it's taking on a life of it;s own! I'm happy people enjoy it.

Jimmy has a great book  as well, called "Humans, Being". It is 365, one hundred word short stories. ! every day for a year! Find it on Amazon!

Ok, so this podcast was awesome because I got to hang out with 2 of my friends I have not seen in quite a while. Jam and Rick! They are 2 of the silliest but realest guys I've known over the years. They always show mad respect for people involved and bring a different style to the scene. The hip hop embedded in the hardcore culture runs deep in Detroit. They take it to 11 when BKC is on the stage and nothing less. They may do something but are in need of a drummer. DO IT!

We had a great time sitting together and laughing and getting crazy. Typical hardcore knuckle heads to say the least but beyond that are the most loyal and creative artists in the Detroit music scene and I'm glad to know them.

Shout out to Joe Hyde for letting me use his band The Alliance as part of my intro until I get a real one. A link to The Alliance bandcamp up top even though they aren't together! Fuck, I'm rambling...see ya!

This is Hardcore Podcast Spotify https://open.spotify.com/show/1j1fjOR9z04Mcl2marZuZ1

This was a great conversation with someone who has done a lot not just for Dertroit hardcore, but the entire scene in general. He is a down to earth and humble dude and our conversation went in all sorts of directions but it was interesting! We talked about his relationship with the Detroit scene and how we were assholes at one point and time.

It's ok to grow as a person and move on with the things we done. Sometimes we can laugh at the stupid shit we've done and other times it's more important to recognize the harm we've caused or the people we've hurt. All we can do is recognize it and hopefully grow.

I dont like to leave the description too full of info but we DID get into what was supposed to happen at TIHC 2020. Would've been a hell of a time to go. Dive in and enjoy ya fucks!

Joe has an amazing podcast called This Is Harcore Podcast and he is a great interviewer and has had on some great guests! He's part of the reason I've started this one myself.

Death Before Dishonor IG

https://www.instagram.com/deathbeforedishonorbhc/

OH SHIT! Another banger coming in with Bryan Harris of Death before Dishonor. I caught him the week before he was about to play the first DBD show back from the COVID lockdown. This is going out 2 weeks after the shows and people seem to be highly upset. Not so much the DBD show but the Madball show in NYC was the day after. Fuck it, right?!

We get into the history of Boston Hardcore and Bryans history of coming up in the Blood for Blood days and how Boston has always had a very active hardcore scene. Not just an active scene, but a very violent scene at a certain point. We get into the Boston Beatdown documentaries and FSU as well.

Great conversation and I also learned a lot. Thank you for supporting and following.

D Bloc Instagram

D Bloc is coming for you! This episode was a good one because I got to dive into someone elses life from the Detroit Hardcore scene. Super fun episode and learned a lot from him. Camden has traveled a lot and done a lot of cool things. Currently still active in the military, respect to him for that.

The newest band about to hit the streets is D Bloc. I know there are other projects coming up but this was a good one to get in to. Especially forming during the pandemic. I'm glad people can still get together and make music and create something in the middle of bullshit times. I think these guys are going to come out swinging full force. They have a lot of people backing them and on their side.

Anyways, I'm glad people are still interested and share the podcast with others. Please keep doing so. You guys are great!

25 Dec 2023ep. 58 Lenny EARTHMOVER (giveaway in intro)00:36:59

MERRY CHRISTMAS

The headlining band of this years Black Xmas is Detroits own Earthmover. We are fortunate enough to be able to get them back to do another show! Anyone who is unaware should definitely look in to them. You can find all audio on YouTube, Apple Music, Spotify and elsewhrere.

There is a giveaway in this episode so listen to the instructions in the intro to try and win an Earthmover windbreaker and a ticket (1 SINGULAR TICKET) to Black Xmas presented by Black Iris Booking

28 Feb 2022ep 26. Kenny Smith Detroit Hardcores most lovable human (Retribution)01:42:02

Retribution Bandcamp for those who want check out or remember Retributionhttps://losttimerecords.bandcamp.com/album/consumed

The title says it all! If you remember Retribution or have been to any Detroit Hardcore show in the past 22 years or so, you have bumped in to him or have for sure moshed next to him!

Kenny is the nicest dude and good to anyone he comes across. AS FAR AS I KNOW! He could be hiding a grumpy old man side to him but I highly doubt it! Listen to this podcast see for yourself! Kenny and I talked about doing a sort of round table discussion with other people in the scene, which I think would be awesome. He knows everyone and has plenty to say and I am looking forward to sitting with him in the future! Thanks for listening and please share!

15 Mar 2021009 The Return of Uncle Jammer01:58:50

https://www.instagram.com/terrorzonepodcast/

This episode was a fun one. Just a Sunday afternoon bullshit session. We didn't talk too much hardcore this week, just a fun conversation about Muay Thai, good times and whatever else. Jam is a fun guy to talk to. He's had plenty of experiences and done a lot of cool shit.

I think it's good to break it up from strictly hardcore and talk some every day stuff every once in a while. If you guys keep listening you get to know me a little bit as a person I guess and the other people I have on. that can go 2 ways. You can see what kind of idiot I really am. Don't tell anyone.

Let me know if you like these types of episodes where it's just talkin shit or if you want to keep it strictly hc. Thanks again for all the support and listeners. You guys are cool, not me.

27 Apr 2021New York City/Madball show recap01:15:33

https://www.instagram.com/terrorzonepodcast/

Ok, so this may be a fun episode for some but to others you may not give a fuck about my trip to New York and seeing the biggest hardcore show in 14 months or so.

It was a great time and I am glad that I went. If you don't agree, or think I'm selfish and stupid, keep moving. This isn't for you. It was a great experience and some weird shit happened on my 36 hour journey in NYC.

Thanks for checking it out and hope you enjoy the episode!

Great episode next week, stay tuned!

Yes, you read that right! Finally, the one and only Scott Vogel. Everyone knows the name and what he's about. Even though hardcore guys are easy going and down to earth, this is obviously a big one.

I am happy he took the time out of his first day on the road promoting his new album with Terror called Pain into Power. We squeezed a lot in during the 40 minutes we had. He is a chill ass dude and so happy they are back on the road, doing what they do best! Check out their new album. It's streaming eveywhere, and you can buy a bunch of new cool ass merch!

Wouldn't have it any other way! Lots of cool things happening with them in 2023 and I'd love to have em back anytime! Was a great conversation so dont fuckin doubt it!
