This week, we’re thrilled to welcome the incredible Andrew McGregor—artist, tarot reader, podcaster, magician, and owner of The Hermit’s Lamp, a beloved tarot shop in Toronto and online.

Andrew’s journey into tarot began at 13 when his Nan gifted him his first deck, sparking a lifelong connection to the cards. A near-death experience at 14 deepened his search for meaning, setting him on a path of exploration into tarot, magic, and the mysteries of the universe. 

In our conversation, we dive into Andrew’s daily spiritual practice and how it shapes his work, as well as his thoughts on different approaches to tarot, including elements of the Rider-Waite-Smith and Tarot de Marseille traditions. It was a fascinating and enjoyable discussion, full of wisdom and warmth. 

To close the episode, we each pulled a tarot card and shared our insights.

Following last week’s conversation with Yasmin Boland (episode 44) on Moonology and working with lunar cycles, we were inspired to explore how the Moon shows up in the tarot—specifically through three powerful Major Arcana cards: The Moon, The High Priestess, and The Chariot.

Each of these archetypes reflects a different facet of lunar energy. We explore how these cards relate to astrology, planetary rulerships, and symbolism—and how they echo the Moon’s themes of intuition, inner guidance, and navigating uncertainty. These aren’t just concepts that show up in readings; they’re energies that mirror how we move through the world, especially when we’re in transition, processing change, or reconnecting with ourselves.

To close the episode, we each drew a card—and in an unexpected moment of synchronicity, both cards came from the Moon's decans in the tarot. We won’t spoil the details, but let’s just say it was a perfect reflection of everything we’d been talking about.

What happens when a life’s journey meets the cards? In this episode of our Tarot podcast, we sit down with an early mentor of Peter’s. James Wells is a Toronto-based tarot consultant, circle/council process host, Reiki teacher, and deeply thoughtful guide. Our conversation explores insight, personal growth, and the unfolding of James's own path with tarot.

James discusses his personal tarot origin story, not just how he discovered the cards, but how they revealed themselves through the rhythms of his own life. Then, in true ‘James’ fashion, he goes deeper: using tarot to read his own origin story, LIVE during the podcast.

But we didn’t stop there.

Toward the end of the episode, we changed things up. Each of us asked James a specific question. In response, he pulled one card and interpreted it three different ways. Same card, same core message, but shaped uniquely by the intention behind each question. It is a simple yet powerful reminder of how flexible and responsive tarot can be and how important the context of our working question and intention is.
