It's Boys Night as Ian and Ethan join together to discuss the Disney+ original series, Season 1 of the Mandalorian. Join your favourite Disney podcasting crew (or at least half of them) as we head deep into Season 1 of the Mandalorian.  Ian tries to keep Ethan's Star Wars' fandom from reaching extremist levels while Ethan is patient and kind when he explains that the child is not 'Baby Yoda'.  We go spoiler-free on Season 2 but dive deep into the lore of the Mandalorian, praise Happy Hogan for saving Star Wars and we take some pot shots at Boba Fett's treatment in the original trilogy. Plus we've got friend of the podcast, Andrew with some parks related content.  So, catch up on some great Disney content and then join the conversation (@talkthemickey), Instagram (@talkingthemickey), or on our Facebook page (@talkingthemickey).  If you comment, you may end up among our 'shoutouts of the week.'

02 Jul 2020Ep 22 - The Princess and the Frog02:08:14

This week we are Film Stories' reigning British Film Podcast of the Week and to celebrate we're "Goin' Down The Bayou' as Georgia's choice takes us to Mardi Gras and the city of New Orleans with "The Princess and the Frog."  Ellie,  Georgia,  Ethan, and Ian discuss a lot of people getting angry over a theme-park ride being rebranded, Ethan shares a personal story or two about his own experiences with the film during a difficult time in his life, Ellie is concerned at Lottie's attitude towards men, Georgia's bringing us Context Corner this week, and Ian's convinced every song in this 'glorified rom-com' (his words) is some sort of Jungle Book rip-off - with the exception of "Friends on the Other Side" which sounded a little too Aladdin for his taste.  Catch up on some great Disney content and then join the conversation (@talkthemickey), Instagram (@talkingthemickey), or on our new Facebook page (@talkingthemickey).

  • One of us almost don't survive the recording

30 Mar 2020Ep 03 - Pocohontas (with Liam)01:22:51

For the first time, Liam joins the Podcast and brings us the 1995 classic, Pocohontas.  It's another week where we discuss big topics like reperesentation, gender roles, and what makes an appropriate narrative to retell for a family audience.  Moreover, Ellie, Georgia, Liam, and Ian consider how much creative license is appropriate with a story based in historical fact before wondering why Mel Gibson didn't even try an English accent at all.  Throw on some Disney Plus, and catch up on some great Disney contet and  then join our conversation on Twitter (@talkthemickey) or Instagram  (@talkingwithmickey) and we'll give you a warm, English welcome - sadly without the gift baskets.

01 Apr 2020Ep 04 - Lady and the Tramp01:32:59

Ellie's choice brings us our oldest film in the review library to this point, Lady and the Tramp.  We find ourselves disussing what exactly makes the essence of story and debate whether this should have been shelved for another 18 years.  We find ourselves resorting to labels of 'dog people' and 'cat people' while asking if the film wants us to 'hate people.'  We also learn which iconic scene Walt Disney wanted out of the film and which elements of the story were ripped from the pages of real life. Throw on some Disney Plus, and catch up on some  great Disney contet and  then join our conversation on Twitter  (@talkthemickey) or Instagram (@talkingwithmickey).

01 Feb 2021WandaReVision - Ep 4 - We Interrupt This Program00:44:03

(EPISODE 4 SPOILERS) - We're continuing our first series review as we break down WandaVision, episode by episode.  Designed as a podcast for the Marvel fan (but not hardcore comic spoiler types), join Ellie, Ethan, Georgia, and Ian together on this one as we stop watching TV and start watching people watch TV.  There are Episode 4 Spoilers present in this episode.

14 May 2021Ep 70 - Captain America: The First Avenger01:56:32

This week we're heading back to the 1940s to find a skinny kid who doesn't know enough to run away from a fight.  Join your favourite Disney Podcasters – Ellie, Ethan, Georgia and Ian – as we try to sneak into the war from any recruiting center in Brooklyng.  Questions we asked this week include: Why did Chris Evans not want to play Cap?  Why did Stanley Tucci agree to play this role? Why don't Cap's trousers shred when he grows? Does Peggy overreact to the kiss between Cap and Marjorie Tyrell? Is Tommy Lee Jones ever bad in any movie?  Is this a better film than Iron Man?  Is it possible to view this film in a vacuum or do you have to consider everything they're setting up for later?  We also have an important announcement at the end of the episode.

If that wasn't enough for you, we've got some more content from friend of the podcast, Andrew, in our Pause for the Parks segment.

So, catch up on some great Disney content and then join the conversation (@talkthemickey), Instagram (@talkingthemickey), or on our Facebook page (@talkingthemickey).

29 Nov 2021See It Or Skip It - Marvel's "Eternals"00:57:41

FIRST 27:50 are a spoiler-free review with our See It/Skip It verdict

AFTER 27:50 it's a full spoiler review

It's another Sunday edition of See It Or Skip It and this time we're talking about Marvel's Eternals.  Liam, Georgia and Ian discuss the latest in Kevin Feige's masterplan. Was this a good film?  Are there too many new characters to keep track of?  Are we ready for a less comedic Marvel film? Are there too many Game of Thrones references in this film? Did Eternals bear a striking resemblance to a popular computer game? How much realism do we want in our superhero films?  We answer all these questions and more in our "See It or Skip It" review of Eternals and then we tell you whether you should SEE IT or SKIP IT.

31 Dec 2020Ep 51 - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs02:06:43

In our last animated classic we zoomed into the future, this time we go back to the one that started it all. Join our crew of Disney Podcasters - Ellie, Ethan, Georgia and Ian - as we whistle while we work and mine everything we can out of the first Disney Animated Classic, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.  Ellie challenges the singing quality of Snow White’s voice, Ian rages about what gives you the consent to enter someone’s home, Georgia reveals her love of Foley artirtstry and Ethan makes some thinly veiled suggestions that Dopey is a cannibal. Plus, our segment, 'A Pause For The Parks", returns this week featuring a pantheon of content from friend of the podcast, Andrew about how Snow White was implemented into the .  So, catch up on some great Disney content and then join the conversation (@talkthemickey), Instagram (@talkingthemickey), or on our Facebook page (@talkingthemickey).  If you comment, you may end up among our 'shoutouts of the week.’

18 Jun 2020Ep 20 - Newsies (and Hercules Fantasy Casting)02:03:04

Headlines don't sell papes; Newsies sell papes!  It's a shame Newsies didn't sell many cinema tickets.  Ian's pick brings us back to 1992 and the first time most of us saw Christian Bale on our screens in the role of Jack Kelly in Newsies   Ellie,  Georgia,  Ethan, and Ian ask how Bill Pullman's character is able to spread the word of the Newsies strike through his own newspaper - are his Newsies not on strike?  Is Oscar Winner Robert Duvall the worst thing about this film and was Razzie (and Oscar) winner Alan Menken unfairly criticised for a pretty good soundtrack.  Did we ever find out what borough Spot Conlon was from and finally, did Davey even really learn how to be a Newsie on his half a day on the job?  We also went around the table (virtually), and gave our thoughts on who should be cast in the upcoming live adaptation of Hercules.  Catch up on some great Disney content and then join the conversation (@talkthemickey), Instagram (@talkingthemickey), or on our BRAND NEW Facebook page (@talkingthemickey).

27 Aug 2020Ep 31 - Lilo & Stitch01:59:11

Ohana means family and that means nobody gets left behind or forgotten - maybe a strange episode to do with Georgia not around but regardless, join your favourite Disney Podcasting team - Ellie, Ethan, and Ian – as we analyse a film that was initially supposed to be a retelling of the Ugly Duckling in the Kansas Woodlands, in Lilo & Stitch.  Ellie fact checks the presence of milkshakes bringing the boys to the yard in 2002 and questions the lack of child locks in a social worker's rental car while Ethan talks about some dark fan theory regarding the death of Nani & Lilo's parents while Ian wants to know why Ohana doesn't apply to any of the Hawaiian villagers who just let Nani and Lilo struggle and we all question why everyone talks about the sisterly bond in Frozen but ignores a film that preceded it with the same message a decade earlier.

So, catch up on some great Disney content and then join the conversation (@talkthemickey), Instagram (@talkingthemickey), or on our Facebook page (@talkingthemickey).  If you comment, you may end up among our 'shoutouts of the week.'

· How large a part of our collective childhoods were the films of Robin Williams

· Did Robin work best when there were narrative restrictions that limited his creativity to a point

· We present the BFE Top 10 list for the best Robin Williams Performances ever

Ellie, Georgia, Ethan, and Ian discuss the challenges – and benefits – of the live musical experience vs the filmed approach, discuss our own suppositions about what Hamilton had in store for us, consider what other chart-topping song King George’s refrain reminded us of, and determine if there’s room for a retelling of Aaron Burr’s story with an all Kiwi cast. From the podcast that puts the plus in Disney Plus, Georgia's selection brings us our oldest film in the review library to this point (again), The Three Caballeros.  We find ourselves disussing how important story is to a piece of art.  We learn about how politics and animation were used together as part of the American Goodwill movement of the FDR government and who decided that Donald Duck was the symbol of Americana?  Throw on some Disney Plus, and catch up on some  great Disney  contet and  then join our conversation on Twitter (@talkthemickey) or Instagram (@talkingwithmickey).

FIRST 27:30 are a spoiler-free review with our See It/Skip It verdict

AFTER 27:30 it's a full spoiler review

Three members of the BFE went to see Shang-Chi (that all rhymed) - 1 was excited, 1 was pessimistic, and 1 was ambivalent.  How did we come out though? Georgia, Liam and Ian are here to run through their first feelings on Marvel's first film to feature an overwhelmingly Asian cast in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. How did all that kung fu measure up when put inside a Marvel movie? How did this compare to another family-based Marvel film in Black Widow? Was the villain a step too far in believability? Which Marvel cameos were here and how did we feel about them? What is Disney's next marketing tool fresh out of this film? We answer all these questions and more in our "See It or Skip It" review of Shang-Chi and then we tell you whether you should SEE IT or SKIP IT.

Get your hankies out, it's an emotional one this week.  The release of Onward in the UK means that we can finally catch up on a long overdue promise to review Pixar's newest film. Ellie and Georgia argue that Ian's (the character) dad might not be a wizard while Ethan and Ian (the podcaster) share some personal stories about losing their dads.  Everyone thinks Ian (the character)'s mum is pretty cool but Ian re-writes the finish and the teamm begrudgingly agree that it's a better film for it.  Also, this week we continue our segment of 'A Pause For The Parks" featuring some content from friend of the podcast, Andrew.  So, catch up on some great Disney content and then join the conversation (@talkthemickey), Instagram (@talkingthemickey), or on our Facebook page (@talkingthemickey).  If you comment, you may end up among our 'shoutouts of the week.'

21 Jul 2021Keeping It Loki (Ep 6) - For All Time. Always. 01:13:15

Join Ethan, Liam, Ian and Georgia for a conversation about a captivating performance from Jonathan Majors and if we can rank this alongside the other Disney Plus MCU series as this one had a significant key element different.

  • What is it that makes this film such a tearjerker

  • Is the plot regarding Kevin and Charles Muntz stupid
  • Who is Charles Muntz a caricature of?
  • We talk a lot about shapes

25 Feb 2021Ep 59 - Tangled02:05:59

This week we're going to the harmless island of Corona for a love story between Rapunzel and literally the first man she lays eyes on in Tangled.  Join your favourite Disney Podcasters – Ellie, Ethan, Georgia, and Ian as we're heading to the festival of the lights for Rapunzel's birthday.  Questions we asked this week include: Does Mother Gothel actually love Rapunzel? How does Rapunzel know how to swim? Has every Disney princess since Rapunzel had the same face? Is the scene at the dam ripped from a video game or designed just so they could use it for a videogame? Is this one of Alan Menken's worse collections of songs? Did they sing about Mentos? Shouldn't Rapunzel have giant arms? How did Disney get away with Flynn elbowing Maximus in the face? What are the rules for Rapunzel's hair anyway? and How does Rapunzel know how to Swim?

If that wasn't enough for you, we've got some more content from friend of the podcast, Andrew, in our Pause for the Parks segment.

29 Jan 2021WandaReVision - Ep 1: Filmed Before A Live Studio Audience01:08:25

(EPISODE 1 SPOILERS) - We're doing our first series review.  Episode by episode.  Designed as a podcast for the Marvel fan (but not hardcore comic spoiler types) We've got the whole TTM/BFE family together on this one and we're all excited to review WandaVision.  Join us as we go back to the 1950s with Wanda & Vision in all the kitschy 1950s sitcom glory.  There are Episode 1 Spoilers present but we've ordered Ethan & co to lock it down on referencing future episodes.

Don't stop it Viz.  Keep them coming.

19 Nov 2020Ep 44 - The Incredible Hulk 02:10:22

You won't like us when we're hungry.  Did he say that right?  This week we break the rules of our own universe by going outside of Disney Plus in order to stay true to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with 2008's The Incredible Hulk.  We debate the difference between Ed Norton & Mark Ruffalo, inquire why we never saw Betty Ross, Abomination, or The Master in any subsequent films, and ask if it's even possible to do a good Hulk film.  Also, was Ed Norton (the actor) done a disservice by Ed Norton (the writer) or do we blame the direction of Ed Norton (the director).  Either way, New York never looked so much Toronto, Canada.  We've got some more from out Pause for the Parks segment (with an improvised theme song)  So, catch up on some great Disney content and then join the conversation (@talkthemickey), Instagram (@talkingthemickey), or on our Facebook page (@talkingthemickey).  If you comment, you may end up among our 'shoutouts of the week.'

24 Dec 2020Ep 50 - The Muppet Christmas Carol (Christmas Party with Best Film Ever & Friends)02:26:34

Tis the season to be jolly and joyous!  Fa la la!.  Charles Dickens’ timeless tale of redemption and the Christmas Spirit never looked or sounded as fun, as charming, and dare I say, as Christmassey as it does in Jim Henson Productions’ The Muppet Christmas Carol.  Join your favourite Disney podcasting crew – Ellie, Ethan, Georgia, and Ian – along with Best Film Ever's Liam - as we conclude our trilogy of Christmas Themed reviews with this the film that we declared to be the best Christmas film of all time in our most recent Reel Roundtable episode. There is no ignorance or want in EPISODE 50 as we discuss:

  • The big shoes that the director and some of the voice cast had to fill after the death of Muppets creator, Jim Henson
  • Michael Caine's perspective on how he played the character
  • Which muppets were originally supposed to portray the three Christmas spirits
  • If there a better Muppets pun than Fozziwig
  • How is it possible that a bunch of puppets present death to children in a manner better than many other writers or actors should envy
  • How exactly did Brian Henson & company pull off some truly magical Muppet moments on screen
  • We discuss the changes made to Charles Dickens' story by Henson and those made by Disney and if they did the film a disservice
  • We get into a debate on loneliness that we ask for your viewpoint on
  • Whether it's fair or not to compare Muppet adaptations such as this to Original Muppet scripts
  • We hear from many friends of the podcast as they send in their Christmas messages
  • Whether or not The Muppet Christmas Carol is the Best Film Ever
25 Nov 2021Ep 72 - Beauty & The Beast (1991)02:47:27

It's a tale as old as time and a tune as old as song, but what happens when you get both the tale and the tune wrong?  Join your favourite TransAtlantic podcasting crew – Ian, Liam, and Georgia - Ethan's stuck in an enchanted wardrobe - as we review the first animated movie to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture, Beauty and the Beast as it celebrates its 30th anniversary.  We're hoping to find something there that wasn't there before in our 72nd episode as we discuss:

  • Just how early it was when Walt Disney wanted to try his hand at Beauty & The Beast
  • A member of the BFE makes a link between Rocky & this film that you're going to have to hear to believe
  • Do we glamourise Gaston and only remember the version of him from the song, and ignore the rest?
  • What trend does this film begin that still occurs to this day
  • Can we overlook the Stockholm Syndrome of the film
  • We suggest some gruesome alternative endings
  • Who exactly is Mrs Potts singing to in Be Our Guest?
  • Is there a better first song than 'Belle'?

18 Feb 2021Ep 58 - Wall-E (Crossover w/ Best Film Ever)02:19:30

This week we're going to the dystopian future for a love story between Johnny Five and the latest Apple HomePod in Wall-E.  Join your favourite Disney Podcasters – Ellie, Ethan, Georgia, and Ian - alongside Liam from Best Film Ever - as we allow Disney/Pixar to lecture us about the dangers of big corporations taking over the world. It's a humanity-filled 58th episode as we discuss:

  • How a single lunch meeting brought us a decade of Pixar releases
  • We discuss the similarities between Wall-E's character design and the main attraction from the Short Circuit series of films
  • We ask if children from 7-14 would love a dialogue free (and therefore, largely joke-free) film
  • We gush over some of the visual sequences both on Earth and off
  • Does Pixar just repurpose The Little Mermaid for their own use (that's an awfully Wall-E thing to do actually)
  • Ian imagines a remaking of the film with American rapper Wale in the titular role
  • We all start to feel a bit hypocritical about our own screen usage.
  • Ian discusses the ridiculousness of burger imagery to a society that's never eaten a proper hamburger
  • Whether or not this a glorified silent film
  • Whether or not Wall-E is the Best PIxar Film yet

If that wasn't enough for you, we've got some more content from friend of the podcast, Andrew, in our Pause for the Parks segment.

So, catch up on some great Disney content and then join the conversation (@talkthemickey), Instagram (@talkingthemickey), or on our Facebook page (@talkingthemickey).  If you comment, you may end up among our 'shoutouts of the week.’

20 Apr 2020Ep 10 - Treasure Planet01:49:11

If you thought there was a rant in Lady and The Tramp, hold our tea!  This week we discuss the reimagining of Treasure Island in Space (a harder moniker to remember than you may think) with Treasure Planet.   Ellie, Georgia, Liam, and  Ian discuss the 70/30 rule, unfortunate post-millenium haircuts, how Treasure Planet may be the biggest financial blunder in Disney animation history, and how close it came to a truly bizarre sequel taking place.  Throw on some Disney Plus, and catch up on some  great Disney contet and  then join our conversation on Twitter  (@talkthemickey) or Instagram  (@talkingwithmickey).

12 Apr 2020Ep 08 - The Sword In The Stone01:38:46

If Merlin felt the 20th century was a 'modern mess' what would he make of life in 2020?  From the  podcast that puts the plus in Disney Plus, Ellie's selection brings us back home to Merry Old England with 'The Sword in the Stone.'  We find ourselves disussing yet another problem with casting and actors maturing over the process of production; we consider which famous person was Merlin's characteristics allegedly based on and we answer the immortal question: who was more memorable in this film, Madam Mim or the Lady Squirrels?  Throw on some Disney Plus, and catch up on some  great Disney  content  and then join our conversation on Twitter (@talkthemickey) or Instagram  (@talkingwithmickey).  Why not throw a review request our way?  Who  knows, maybe your recommendation will spur our next review.

30 Apr 2021Ep 68 - Finding Nemo02:17:06

This week we're heading out in search of a clownfish with a dodgy fin.  Join your favourite Disney Podcasters – Ellie, Ethan, and Ian - Georgia's locked up in a fishtank in Sydney – as we hang ten on the East Australian Current towards Sydney in Finding Nemo.  Questions we asked this week include: How long did the pitch meeting for this have to be?  Who was the original cast voice actor of Marlin? Why shouldn't we say that all drains lead to the ocean? Who was the one critic that said this was a bad movie and what was their excuse? Which voice actor was released from the project after refusing to emulate their iconic sitcom voice?  Why was the shark called 'Bruce'?  How does Ethan not know how long Robbie Williams has been famous for?  For a second straight week we ask whether New Zealand is bigger than Australia? and what motivated director Andrew Stanton

So, catch up on some great Disney content and then join the conversation (@talkthemickey), Instagram (@talkingthemickey), or on our Facebook page (@talkingthemickey).

29 Oct 2020Ep 41 - Oliver & Company01:44:43

It's time to go back to the 80s as we find out what happened Once Upon A Time In New York City with the 28th Disney Animated Classic, Oliver & Company.  Join your our gang of Disney Podcasters - Ellie, Ethan, Georgia, and Ian - as we get into a New York State of Mind with this reimagining of Charles Dickens' seminal classic, Oliver Twist.  Georgia espouses love for the ginger-haired, titular character while Ellie finds a spirit animal in Bette Midler's Georgette, Ethan isn't feeling the chihuahua energy of Cheech Marin and Ian makes a lot of comparisons of Oliver & Company to Treasure Planet (and you know that's not going to end well).  More than anything though, Ian and Ethan try to one up each other on Billy Joel puns to the chagrin of Georgia and Ellie who aren't as familiar with New York's finest PIano Man.

  • How the sequel came about
  • The Mandela effect of the most famous line in the film.
  • We moan a bit about the CGI that's been inserted into the film
  • Which famous line from the film was ad-libbed
  • Whether or not this is the best film in the Star Wars Franchise
  • Which face of the franchise was different due to an automotive accident
  • Who was most angry at not being clued in to the twist ending

Is Cruella de Ville actually a great villain or just the benefector of excellent character design and an iconic song?  That's the question we undertake this week as Ian's pick has us counting spots, literally.   Ellie,  Georgia, Ethan, and Ian debate the relative distance of London to Suffolk, why half the film is us watching dogs watching television, how can a variety of animals understand the twilight bark but only the dogs can respond?  Is Jasper underrated as a disney villain in his own right?  And what is Roger's wife's name anyways?  Throw on some Disney Plus, catch up on some great  Disney content and then join the conversation on Twitter (@talkthemickey) or Instagram (@talkingthemickey).

It's time to go on an Incredible Journey.  Ellie's moves us up 1 year from Newsies into 1993 with Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey (itself a remake of a 1963 film)   Ellie,  Georgia,  Ethan, and Ian debate the merits of 2D animation vs voiceover and live animals, we go into great detail on the lengths the production team went to in order to ensure animal safety.  We all get a little emotional about the thoughts our respective pets may have in their heads and we deduce that Ethan might just be a soulless robot (but he likes cats - take that all you cat people).  Catch up on some great Disney content and then join the conversation (@talkthemickey), Instagram (@talkingthemickey), or on our new Facebook page (@talkingthemickey).

This week we're heading back to ancient Agrabah with a bagful of 2019 morals and revisions in the Disney live-action remake of Aladdin.  Join your favourite Disney Podcasters – Ellie, and Ian - with Liam from Best Film Ever having to compesnate for the absence of Georgia and Ethan this week.  Questions we asked this week include: Why did they change classic dialogue with the smallest of changes? Was there anyone besides Will Smith who could've played the Genie in an Aladdin remake? Does the new Jasmine song rip off an Abba classic? Why does the film rush through Act I and then overly pad the runtime in Act III?  What are the rules about favours and wishes?  Why don't they figure out the whole 'pretending to be a prince vs. making someone an actual sorcerer conundrum from the first film? and Why does Ethan hate the musical number for Prince Ali so much?

If that wasn't enough for you, we've got some more content direct from friend of the podcast, Andrew, in our Pause for the Parks segment.

So, catch up on some great Disney content and then join the conversation (@talkthemickey), Instagram (@talkingthemickey), or on our Facebook page (@talkingthemickey).  If you comment, you may end up among our 'shoutouts of the week.’

20 Aug 2021See It Or Skip It? - Black Widow01:06:23

FIRST 29:00 are a spoiler-free review with our See It/Skip It verdict

AFTER 29:00 it's a full spoiler review

For a film that was delayed on 3 separate occasions, it’s only fitting that we had to record this episode twice. Liam and Ian went and saw Black Widow (one in the Cinema, one on Disney Plus) .What is it like to have a first viewing of a Marvel film on the small screen?  Was it worth the wait? Is it necessary as a Marvel film? Did the knowledge that Natasha survives everything ruin the ability to build tension in this film? How did the supporting cast handle the film? And what percentage of the time is Ray Winstone actually trying a Russian Accent? We answer all these questions and more in our "See It or Skip It" review of Black Widow and then we tell you whether you should SEE IT or SKIP IT.

Keeping It Loki is designed as a companion podcast for the casual fan (but not hardcore comic spoiler types). Join Ethan, Liam and Ian for a roundtable as we discuss Doctor Who audition tapes, whether we witnessed a progressive moment for Disney/MCU or just lip service, what love is, which parts of this felt like a video-game cut-scene and whether this episode was merely filler or actual character development?

Join your favourite Disney podcasting crew – Ellie, Ethan, Georgia & Ian – along with Liam from Best Film Ever -  as we head into Crossover infested waters.  It's anything but a mutiny in this 45th episode as we discuss:

  • How did a film based off of theme park ride have any business being this good?
  • The parts of the Jack Sparrow character that Johnny Depp was successful in petitioning for and the nonsense that he was overruled on.
  • The many alternate versions of this film that could've hit cinema screens if other casting choices had gone ahead
  • What other cinematic swordfight the Sparrow/Turner clash reminds us of
  • Why you can't read the sub-title on the film's poster
  • Where Hans Zimmer got inspiration for the film's theme
  • We talk about if we want to see another Pirates film with Depp?  Without Depp?
  • We rave about the introduction Verbinski gives us to Captain Jack

09 Apr 2020Ep 07 - Cool Runnings (with Ethan)01:25:53

Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme, get on up, it's podcast time!  From the podcast that puts the plus in Disney Plus, Ian's selection brings us all the way to the frigid climates of Canada in mid-February with Cool Runnings.  We find ourselves disussing Disney's initial casting preferences.  Which one line was the only one to remain after extensive re-writes, we discuss the legacy of Canada's own John Candy, and find out which actor rose from being hired just to read the lines to others auditioning for the film to ultimately being cast and stealing the show. Throw on some Disney Plus, and catch up on some  great Disney  content and then join our conversation on Twitter (@talkthemickey) or Instagram (@talkingwithmickey).  Why not throw a review request our way?  Who knows, maybe your recommendation will spur our next review.

· What unique rehearsal trick did Bridges & Downey do together

· How many soundbytes/easter eggs were presented here that wouldn’t show up until much later?

· What do the voices of Jarvis and Karen (Spider-Man: Homecoming) have in common?

· Whether or not Iron Man is the Best Film Ever

23 Jul 2020Ep 26 - The Adventures of Ichabod & Mr. Toad01:35:31

Can a film be greater than the sum of its parts?  Not this week.  This week, nobody got to pick as the executive producer determined that it was time for another package film - and we are savage.  Ellie, Ethan, and Ian try to overcome Georgia's absence without losing our respective heads by discussing the 11 year journey to move Wind in the Willows from buying the rights to hitting the screen, the screen animators strike of 1949, we struggle to name more than 1 likeable character in 2 different segments, and Ellie admits she's addicted to nostalgia while Ethan suggests that Toad might be addicted to something else.

Catch up on some great Disney content and then join the conversation on Twitter (@talkthemickey), Instagram (@talkingthemickey), or on our Facebook page (@talkingthemickey).  If you comment, you may end up among our 'shoutouts of the week'

16 Jul 2020Ep 25 - The Incredibles01:51:06

Syndrome says that if everyone is super then no-one is super. How does this apply to Pixar’s track record of making super high quality films? This week, we’ve actually let Ethan pick a film again after his debacle with “The Wild” and it’s a good one in “The Incredibles.”  Ellie, Georgia, Ethan, and Ian discuss Pixar’s first all-human narrative.   Ethan regales us with tales from context corner and the semi-autobiographical nature of Brad Bird’s screenplay, we debate the internal logic of running back into a burning building, ask whether Frozone ever needs to urinate or if freezing things does the trick, we take a look at the gender politics behind the weight gain behind Mr and Mrs Incredible, Georgia just wants to know how the mask physics work while Ian maintains that Syndrome is a much more sympathetic villain than he's made out to be.

  • Why this film plays so fast and loose with Asgard being a planet or a people

(EPISODE 9 SPOILERS) - We're concluding our first series review as we break down WandaVision, episode by episode with an episode review and series retrospective that divides the team as to whether it paid off the story that preceded it and if such a payoff even matters in a long-form storytelling device like the MCU.  WandaReVision is designed as a podcast for the Marvel fan (but not hardcore comic spoiler types), join Ellie, Ethan, Georgia, Ian, and Liam together on this one as we disagree whether anything happened in this episode.  There are Episode 9 Spoilers present in this episode.

15 Apr 2020Ep 09 - Wreck-It Ralph01:40:16

Just because you are a 'bad guy' doesn't mean that you are a bad guy.  Wise words from the Russian who likes to crack men's skulls between his thights.  From the  podcast that puts the plus in Disney Plus,  Georgia's selection brings us into the world of our favourite video games (from today and yesterday) with 'Wreck-It Ralph.'  We find ourselves disussing how a film as fan-servicey as this on the surface could ask such mature questions about happiness, fulifilment, depression, and respect.  We  consider if Ralph might just be the best developed character in the history of Disney or whether Venellope ever had a redeeming moment.  Also, is there anything Alan Tudyk can't do?  Throw on some Disney Plus,  and catch up on some  great Disney  content  and then join our  conversation on Twitter (@talkthemickey) or Instagram (@talkingwithmickey).  Why not throw a review request our way?  Who knows, maybe your recommendation will spur our next review.

26 Jan 2022Ep 73 - Encanto 02:07:26

We're going to talk about Encanto this week but is it possible to do that without talking about Bruno? Join your favourite Disney podcasting crew – Ian, Liam, Ethan and Georgia as we review Georgia's pick and our newest film we've ever reviewed. We're waiting for our gift in our 73rd episode as we discuss:

  • The future and economics of cinema

  • We share a bit about Bob Saget
  • Ian gushes about Pop Tarts
  • We question what exactly is magically alive in this film and what isn't
  • Somehow we link this film to Extreme Makeover
  • Why is the house such a jerk in this film?  Why is the family?
  • Who gets forgiven FAR too easily in this film
  • Does this film borrow from a lot of other films?  Is it too much?
  • Does this movie get the ending wrong?
  • Why do we cry at movies? We analyse the possibilities
  • We don't talk about Ellie
  • Whether or not Encanto is the Best Film Ever

08 Apr 2021Ep 65 - The Mighty Ducks02:03:40

This week we're assembling ourselves into a Flying V while we cross our own blue line in the 1992 live-action sports film, The Mighty Ducks.  Join your favourite Disney Podcasters – Ellie, Ethan, and Ian – Georgia’s in the Penalty Box – as we try to reach Coach Bombay by fax and figure out what a cake eater is.  Questions we asked this week include: Do the Hawks have their own rink? Not just for the team but also the age group? Does Jack only coach PeeWee or does he move up and down with the children? Why does Hans abandon Gordon after he quits hockey? Is Jesse a likeable character in the slightest? Why did Fulton get detention if he wasn’t in the class that quacked at the principal? Why does Ethan hate roller blades? And which composers have every right to feel their stuff got stolen by this film.

If that wasn't enough for you, we've got some more content direct from friend of the podcast, Andrew, in our Pause for the Parks segment.

13 Aug 2020Ep 29 - Dumbo (1941 - w/ Dan from Lil' Bitch Pod)01:53:10

We've run away to join the circus with yet another Disney Animated Classic to review and we've gone all the way back to 1941 to review the shortest film in the Disney Canon, in Dumbo.  Unlike the eponymous elephant, we have plenty to say as we tackle a film that includes one of Walt's greatste creations of a beloved and adorable children's character with some outright ugly representations and tactics by Walt & co.  Join your favourite Disney Podcasting team - Ellie, Ethan, and Ian – alongside our special attraction, Dan from the Lil' Bitch Pod, as we analyse Dumbo..  Ellie swoons over baby Dumbo, Ethan and Ian discuss the crows at considerable length, Dan tries to make some sense of Pink Elephants on parade, Ian wishes everything didn't fade out so abruptly and we're all a bit worried that we've broken Dumbo for Dan and we consider if this wouldn't have been a better choice as a package film.

In other Disney news, we give the 2nd episode of "Muppets Now" a look and see if it's fool me twice or as refreshing as a Danny Treljo taco, we discuss Disney's move to put Mulan on Demand at a Premium price, and Ethan tries to get us to care about Tron 3 (It's not working).

18 Mar 2021Ep 62 - Thor (w/ Liam from Best Film Ever)02:15:15

This week we're heading to remote New Mexico and trying not hit pedestrians as we work towards our six college credits.  Join your favourite Disney Podcasters – Ellie, Ethan, Georgia, and Ian - alongside Liam from Best Film Ever - as we see a mash-up of Marvel and Shakespeare in Kenneth Branagh's "Thor."  Questions we asked this week include: How bad of a father is Odin? Why would anyone make Chris Hemsworth bleach his beard and eyebrows? How can an Oscar winner like Natalie Portman be so bad in this? Would Darcy's jokes be funny if the gender roles were reversed? Would Jane's sexual leering be acceptable if the roles were reversed? 04 Feb 2021Ep 56 - The Rescuers01:46:08

We're taking our seats at the Rescue Aid Society.  Choose a nation, city, or a whole continent and grab your seat.  Join your favourite Disney podcasters - Ellie, Ethan, Georgia and Ian - as we're heading down to the Devil's Bayou.  Questions we asked this week include: Why is there just one adoption day at an orphanage?  Penny blames the pretty red-headed girl for getting adopted but isn't Penny red-headed? Is this film just a giant ripoff of Annie? And we've got some behind the scenes info on Madame Medusa's creation that you won't believe.

If that wasn't enough for you, we've got some more content from friend of the podcast, Andrew, in our Pause for the Parks segment.

11 Jun 2020Ep 19 - The Wild01:44:59

Sometimes the worst films make for the best episodes.  Ethan's pick brings us the 2006 computer-animated debacle that was "The Wild".   Ellie,  Georgia,  Ethan, and Ian debate why the film wanted to keep explicitly reminding us of much better Disney properties,  discuss the shameful Canadiana that was forced to the audience throughout the first act, consider why their were so many characters stuffed into this film if none of them were going to be developed or really have an arc, and ask if anyone cared about Ryan at any point in the film.  Also, who names a Lion cub "Ryan"???  Throw on Disney Plus, catch up on some great Disney content (or this film) and then join the conversation on Twitter  (@talkthemickey), Instagram (@talkingthemickey), or on our BRAND NEW Facebook page (@talkingthemickey).

Also, a massive thanks to our friends over at Feedspot who informed  us that they have included us in their "Top 60 Disney Podcasts You Must  Follow in 2020" rankings where we currently sit at #13 (and I believe  hold the ranking of the top film review Disney podcast in that list).   If you've got a podcast to promote, why not head over to Feedspot and  see how they can help you.  Catch our ranking at  https://blog.feedspot.com/disney_podcasts
