I would love to hear from you! Send me a text

“Mary, why am I not getting booked to speak?” Well, let me ask you a question: Have you asked anyone to book you? Top reasons to listen to the entire episode:

  1. Send a video of your entire message to the event planners
  2. Make sure you have testimonials from people they will recognize
  3. The size of your social media following is less important than having beliefs aligned with an event's beliefs.

I would love to hear from you! Send me a text

What do you consider a BIG stage? How many people are in the room? Is it 100, 500, 3,000? Whatever you consider to be "big,” when God calls you to it, you'll feel right at home. I would love to hear from you! Send me a text

Is standing up on the big stage all you want to do? Do you want to start off your career speaking up there and become well-known in that big space? It's probably on your list of goals to get noticed up there right away, but that's not always possible. And let me tell you, it's a blessing! There have been times (I’m talking very few) where new speakers have walked onto the big stage without any preparation and failed miserably. 06 Mar 2023130: Use A Podcast to Grow Your Speaking Skills00:20:16

I would love to hear from you! Send me a text

God has given you a message and He has entrusted you with this gift. But do you trust what He wants you to do with it? Are you showing up and sharing it? Have you ever considered sharing some bits of your story on a podcast? Not just any podcast, but YOUR own podcast.

In this episode, I have someone else with me. It is my pleasure to be joined by Eric Nevins, founding member of the Christian Podcasters Association.

Top reasons to listen to the entire episode:

  1. You don't have to be perfect to start, but you do have to be persistent.

13 Mar 2023131: The Three Keys to Getting Booked to Speak - Connection00:14:46

I would love to hear from you! Send me a text

Have you been calling up churches pitching yourself to speak and nobody’s returning your phone calls? Let me ask you this: if it’s not your church, do any members of the staff or congregation know who you are? Back in the day, cold pitching worked a lot better. Nowadays, anyone can send an email to a women's ministry director, and that's exactly what happens. Since so many unsolicited emails from unknown speakers land in their inbox, getting a meeting is becoming harder. But if you make a genuine connection, you stand a better chance of getting your foot in the door.

Top reasons to listen to the entire episode:

  1. It's okay if some people aren't willing to vouch for you.
  2. You need to build a connection to get in the door.
  3. Sometimes you ask people for connections and they don't know anyone. Keep asking more people you know.

20 Mar 2023132: Three Keys to Getting Booked to Speak- Conversations00:15:41

I would love to hear from you! Send me a text

Did you catch the last episode where we talked about making connections? If not, I highly recommend you check it out first because there’s some homework that lays the groundwork for this episode! Getting booked as a speaker starts with making connections. After making those connections, you can start having conversations and scheduling meetings. I know, booking meetings can be nerve-wracking even for speakers. That's why I want to spend some time discussing what you can expect going into these conversations, so keep listening…

In this episode, I talk about face-to-face meetings, video meetings and how to show up and serve well in both situations.

Top reasons to listen to the entire episode:

  1. In general, if you are able to get the meeting and are the right fit for her women, you have a good chance of being booked
  2. When you're meeting someone, look her in the eye, whether it's onscreen or in person
  3. Whether an opportunity works out or not, you've likely built a relationship that will lead to more opportunities

27 Mar 2023133: Three Keys to Getting Booked to Speak - Conversions00:16:04

I would love to hear from you! Send me a text

When I say “conversion”, what do I mean? Conversion means turning a connection and a conversation into a booked speaking opportunity. If you tuned in to the first two parts of these keys to getting booked to speak, you’ll already know all about making connections and having conversations. If you haven't listened to those episodes yet, please go back and do so. Now, let me ask you: How do you take the first two C's – connections and conversations – and move them into conversions? That’s exactly what we're going to discuss today, so keep listening.

During this episode, I share how to convert a conversation into a paid speaking engagement.

Top reasons to listen to the entire episode:

  1. A speaker with a message is one of the most servant-hearted jobs you will ever perform
  2. It’s your job to help that event planner so you can do what you’ve been called to do
  3. Work within your speaker's budget by being creative

I would love to hear from you! Send me a text

When someone asks you to speak at an event, do you hesitate to say yes? Do you automatically think that someone else is more qualified to speak than you are? Both myself and my guest, Lori Robertson have been there. We understand how easy it is to think, “Who am I to speak about that topic? What if I say the wrong thing?” But do you know what? In the end, that way of thinking comes down to two things: Having too much fear and too little confidence.

Top reasons to listen to the entire episode:

  1. There’s a difference between managing fear and cultivating confidence
  2. It’s more important to know your audience and what they want than to follow trends

Perhaps you have been sharing the same message for a year and need a new fresh message. Whether you've done this hundreds of times before or are just getting started, I'm going to share the way I craft a message. I follow a three-step process centered around 3 P's. If you're curious, then you’ll want to keep listening…

Top reasons to listen:

  1. It can take weeks to prepare a message
  2. Pray and ponder over what stories in your life will help your one person
  3. Pay attention to what keeps popping up in your walk with Jesus

15 May 2023140: Prepare Your Message - Part 2 (Prepare)00:14:05

I would love to hear from you! Send me a text

Do you know what message God wants you to share, but you aren't sure how to put it all together? Are you wondering what’s the best way to take your one person from A to B while maintaining a connection throughout the journey? Crafting a message is never easy, that’s why I want to take some time in this episode to really dive into my preparation process. Listen in to find out what you can do to make an impact and create transformation in her life.

Top reasons to listen:

  1. You can be attached to a story, but if it doesn't fit the narrative of what God's given you for your message, you have to let it go.
  2. Even if you’ve given a message multiple times, you still have to prepare
  3. There are three pillars of a good opening

22 May 2023141: Prepare Your Message - Part 3 (Practice)00:14:26

I would love to hear from you! Send me a text

What does it mean to “practice” your message? I've had women tell me that they want their message to be fresh, so they don’t do a lot of practicing. Well, I'm going to be honest with y'all: You can share a message that sounds fresh and still be well practiced. Practice doesn't mean rehearsing your message word-for-word. There's an art to delivering your message, and practicing is all about the way in which you use your words.

Top reasons to listen:

  1. There's a difference between “reciting” and “being rehearsed”
  2. When it comes to the delivery of your message, it’s an art form
  3. You're not just practicing the words that come out of your mouth, you're practicing the way in which you use those words

29 May 2023142: Is a Virtual Summit for you?00:14:58

I would love to hear from you! Send me a text

Is speaking at a virtual summit something that’s on your radar? If so, what’s your reason behind that? I want y’all to think about this: Are you saying yes because you're happy that you got asked? Or is it because you have little speaking experience and this is a good opportunity for you? Virtual summits are a great testing and training ground, but there are some things to consider before you give the host your “yes!”

Top reasons to listen:

  • Virtual summits are great for testing and training your speaking skills
  • Be mindful they’re not taking your content or asking you to be their marketing arm –– other than what's expected
  • Make sure you are passionate about the topic you’re speaking on and in alignment with the host and mission
