09 Mar 20214A Helga's Makeover/4B The Old Building00:33:51
Gender takes center stage in “Helga’s Makeover,” and we discuss how the episode doesn’t talk down to its audience. Then we dig into the generational gap into which Arnold finds himself thrown in “The Old Building” and how a nine-year-old could mediate conflict better than two grown adults. 16 Mar 20215A 6th Grade Girls/5B The Baseball00:37:26
“6th Grade Girls” sees Gerald and Arnold at their funkiest, freshest, and maybe least mature. We reminisce about how “The Baseball” is all about saying hello and goodbye to your hero at the same time. If you love the show, we’d love for you to leave a review! 23 Mar 20216A Heat/6B Snow00:36:56
Who doesn't remember their first snow day? Even before watching, the Kidz fondly recalled "Heat" and "Snow" as two of the first Arnolds we remember loving. On this episode, we unpack what exactly makes this legendary double header so memorable by discussing how both episodes manage to leverage Arnold's inimitable visuals, music, and community world-building to evoke special moments of childhood both so specific and so universal that no one ever really forgets how they feel. 01 Apr 20217A Operation Ruthless/7B The Vacant Lot00:38:32
Hi, Ruth. Hi, Ruth. Hi, Ruth. Hi, Ruth. Hi, Ruth. In “Operation Ruthless,” we see Arnold and Helga at their most vulnerable, while they see both warped and idealized reflections as they pursue the people they want. “Vacant Lot” is a Marxist parable with a Backyard Baseball spin. 08 Apr 20218A The List (feat. Charlie Mackin)/8B Haunted Train (feat. Kyle Olson)00:54:41
What’s on your list today? In our first guest episode, we’re joined by Charlie Mackin to discuss how “The List” recontextualizes the ways we used to spend weekends and how we do that as adults in 2021. Then good friend and resident rail guy Kyle Olson hops aboard for some “Haunted Train” chat, adding coal to the fire as we talk about the terrifying titular train. 14 Apr 20219A Mugged/9B Roughin' It (feat. Drew Tenenbaum)01:00:01
With special guest Drew Tenenbaum (https://twitter.com/AshCoolBro), we’re reminded of Grandma’s sage advice in “Mugged”: there’s a difference between standing up for yourself and being the aggressor. Then in “Roughin’ It,” a camping trip takes Arnold and Helga’s families out of their element – and nobody survives it alone. (It’s a lot like A Goofy Movie.) 23 Apr 202110A Door Number 16/10B Arnold as Cupid (feat. Wayne Stainrook)00:59:29
Featuring special guest Wayne Stainrook (https://twitter.com/stainwaynerook)! “Door Number 16” uses a missing package to introduce the boarders of Sunset Arms to the family member they met too late. In “Arnold as Cupid,” Susie should definitely not be with Mr. Kokoshka... or maybe anyone… but Arnold gets over it long enough to play matchmaker. 30 Apr 202111A Benchwarmer/11B Cool Jerk00:41:44
Arnold plays Grandma to the coach’s son in “Benchwarmer,” and we talk about the highs and lows of middle school basketball. In discussing “Cool Jerk,” an episode about a cool jerk, we dig up the cool jerks from our youth. If you love the show, we’d love for you to leave a review! 07 May 202112A Das Subway (feat. Sophie Blumenstock)/12B Wheezin’ Ed (feat. Evelyn Frick)01:01:26
Featuring special guests Sophie Blumenstock and Evelyn Frick (Friends Like Us Podcast)! In “Das Subway,” a freak accident brings together metropolitan denizens from every walk of life for one paranoid day. “Wheezin’ Ed” is another urban myth that piques the gang’s curiosity so strongly that they leave the mainland to scope it out. 14 May 202113A Tutoring Torvald/13B Gerald Comes Over00:45:48
In “Tutoring Torvald,” Hey Arnold! speaks to the very real issues with American public education and the importance of family support. In “Gerald Comes Over,” Gerald comes over and gets a good look at life inside Sunset Arms. Maybe too good a look. If you love the show, we’d love for you to leave a review! 20 May 202114A Spelling Bee/14B Pigeon Man00:44:47
“Spelling Bee” contrasts Arnold’s support system with Helga’s self-reliance, but without the J-U-D-G-M-E-N-T. Time, patience, and the right berries might be the salve for what ails Arnold’s pet pigeon Chester in “Pigeon Man,” but it takes more than that for us to learn to trust again after trauma. Featuring special guests Jason Dafnis and Seth Zarate! Introducing us to more of Helga’s family, “Olga Comes Home” paints a portrait of sisters in a relationship defined as much by their environment as each other. In “Sally’s Comet,” the community comes together to stare at the skies, just like we have for generations, and promises to do it again for the next generation. 03 Jun 202116A Abner Come Home/16B The Sewer King00:46:56
“Abner Come Home” proves Abner’s personhood by appealing to his animal nature, and we share our favorite pet stories. In “The Sewer King,” the kids dig all the way to China – almost – to find an heirloom and a lonely king. If you love the show, we’d love for you to leave a review! 10 Jun 202117A False Alarm/17B World Records (feat. Dan Nagan)01:03:16
Featuring Dan Nagan (https://twitter.com/adapperdanman) of the podcast Everything We Learned! In “False Alarm,” Helga has tickets to WrestleMania and a bold kid seeks exoneration for an innocent nerd. In “World Records,” the kids from PS 118 set a world record – just not the one they thought. At least they do it together. 18 Jun 202118A Magic Show/18B 24 Hours to Live00:54:22
On today's episode, we dig into two iconly strange, character-centric episodes that have more in common than we originally thought. In "Magic Show," Helga is forced to reconcile with the consequences of her bullying - and her own guilty conscience - when "the Great Arnoldini" makes her "disappear." In "24 Hours to Live," Harold gives Arnold one day to set his affairs in order after the football head beans him with a baseball. As Helga continuously reminds him over the next 24 hours, Arnold is forced to find a creative solution to his problem. If you love the show, we’d love for you to leave a review! 25 Jun 202119A Part Time Friends/19B Biosquare00:57:24
Arnold and Gerald add an uncomfortable new dimension to their friendship when they both get jobs at Mrs. Vitello's flower shop in “Part Time Friends.” Then, in “Biosquare,” Arnold and Helga are locked in a greenhouse for 24 hours. 02 Jul 202120 Arnold's Christmas (feat. Charlie Mackin)00:45:04
Featuring special guest Charlie Mackin (https://twitter.com/charliemander13)! One of the most emotional, warmhearted, and talked-about episodes of Hey Arnold! sets the titular holiday fool on a mission to reunite Mr. Hyunh with his daughter after 20 years of separation. With a plot that hinges on the refugee families broken in the Vietnam War and the ones that build themselves around the gaps, “Arnold’s Christmas” is a legitimate gut-punch and an incredibly moving episode year-round. 10 Jul 202121A Helga's Boyfriend/21B Crush on Teacher00:49:46
It’s not easy to make Arnold jealous, but Helga tries her hardest with some arm candy in “Helga’s Boyfriend,” and we talk about how her own jealousy undercuts the tenderness of youthful romance with a sharp cynicism. “Crush on Teacher” is BIG CRINGE, but Arnold’s catastrophic misread of his teacher’s friendly disposition is a great excuse for us to talk about some of our own teacher crushes. 16 Jul 2021Special Episode! ASTROLOGY: Zodiac Signs as Hey Arnold! Characters00:35:16
In this special episode, we get to know our favorite Hey Arnold! characters a little better by guessing their zodiac signs and comparing them to our own. Emily’s a Sagittarius, but what about Pigeon Man? Which characters seem to share the same sun sign? What on Earth is Arnold’s moon sign? Find out in this fun, offbeat episode! 22 Jul 202122A Hall Monitor/22B Harold's Bar Mitzvah (feat. Drew Tenenbaum)01:02:29
Featuring special guest Drew Tenenbaum (https://twitter.com/AshCoolBro)! In “Hall Monitor,” Phoebe learns how to be a COP from Helga, and we wonder what it says about the school that everyone in PS 118 wants to be a hall monitor. “Harold’s Bar Mitzvah” introduces religion as a significant part of the Hey Arnold! plot for the first time, telling a story of a boy who doesn’t realize he’s ready to be a man. 29 Jul 202123A Coach Wittenberg/23B Four-eyed Jack00:46:27
Everyone's favorite(?!) coach returns for "Coach Wittenberg," just in time for "Arnie" to teach him – and us! – the role of "psychocoholgy" in coaching and the real value of being part of a team. After the game, we head back to the boarding house to hear the harrowing tale of "Four-eyed Jack," get to know the house's colorful residents a little better, and even gain a little more insight into Grandpa's unorthodox but heartwarming parenting style. 04 Aug 202124A Tour de Pond/24B Teachers' Strike00:40:53
“Tour de Pond” pits Arnold and Gerald against Rex Smythe-Higgins III – and seven decades of bad blood – in a boat race where there’s more than a first-place trophy on the line. “Teachers’ Strike” unfortunately turns the kids of PS 118 into scabs after the teaching staff leverages collective action against Principal Wartz’s abusive budget cuts. 13 Aug 202125 Arnold's Valentine00:32:56
Whether you’re listening on Feb. 14 or anytime, Episode 25 of Hey Arnold! is one to remember for a lot of good reasons! In “Arnold’s Valentine,” Arnold’s titular Valentine isn’t who she seems – and his longtime crush isn’t who he thought she was. In this smooch-tastic episode of Stoop Kidz!, we discuss the weird, double-long pacing of episode 25, how the plotline complicates Arnold and Helga’s relationship, its surprisingly somber tone, and the fact that Arnold is confirmed as a himbo by the end of the episode. 20 Aug 202126A Runaway Float/26B Partners00:40:59
This week, the Kidz discuss a true classic in "Runaway Float," a thrilling episode that demonstrates Arnold's creativity, the power of community, and – of course – the evils of the commercialization of art. In Part 2, the great Dino Spumoni returns to his roots (in more ways than one) in "Partners," and the gang discusses their complementary strengths, weaknesses, and idiosyncrasies. 03 Sep 2021Clay Arnold!: The Claymation Shorts Where Arnold Was Born00:38:09
The Kidz go back – WAY back – to the origins of Hey Arnold! in this special episode of Stoop Kidz! No, not the pilot episode. Even further back to the three stop-motion shorts Craig Bartlett used to pitch the show that became Hey Arnold! These vignettes aren’t long (just a few minutes each), but they’re a little slice of the distinct vibe Hey Arnold! would become known for, as well as the creativity of its showrunners and a fun introduction to the title character. Watch all three claymation shorts here (total runtime 5:54): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vZ1Xc4xFjc If you love the show, we’d love for you to leave a review! 11 Sep 2021An Interview with Craig Bartlett, Author of Hey Arnold!01:08:19
Note: Unlike our regular episodes, this episode is un-bleeped! On this very, very special episode of Stoop Kidz!, the kidz interview Craig Bartlett himself, animator extraordinaire and author of Hey Arnold! In this packed discussion, we dig into Craig’s storied career, unpack the pseudo-autobiographical origins of Arnold and his friends, chat about what the show means to an entire generation, and hear how the man himself feels knowing his labor of love was and continues to be such an indispensable part of our lives. When asked how he managed to make something as "realized" as the show, Craig Bartlett immediately references how lucky he was to have the team he had. While that's no doubt true, if this conversation taught us anything, it's that his team were just as lucky to have him at the helm. Listening to him reflect on his magnum opus, it's easy to see how Arnold! became the show it is: Bartlett's joyful spirit and boundless creativity are just as infectious and inspiring now as they must have been back then. We're so proud to have the privilege to share some of that inspiring creativity with you in this episode. Enjoy listening! If you love the show, we’d love for you to leave a review! 02 Oct 202127A The Big Scoop/27B Harold's Kitty00:43:58
Welcome to Season 2 of Stoop Kidz! Season 2 of Hey Arnold! kicks off with a one-two punch. Helga stretches the truth a little too far for stories in the school newspaper, and Arnold and Gerald are tempted by the idea of going low to stop her. Harold’s Kitty – a truly “pawesome” episode – is surprisingly sad, showing Harold’s softer side when he fosters a lost cat and isn’t quite ready to give him up. If you love the show, we’d love for you to leave a review! In the meantime, keep up with us at https://twitter.com/stoopkidzpod and https://www.instagram.com/stoopkidzpod/. 09 Oct 202128A Arnold Saves Sid/28B Hookey00:42:51
In “Arnold Saves Sid,” we see a new sycophantic side of Sid when he dotes on Arnold as repayment for saving his life – kinda. In “Hookey,” Arnold and Gerald skip school to play hookey (no, not hockey! HOOKEY!) only to find themselves caged by their own fear of being caught. 16 Oct 202129A Save the Tree/29B New Teacher00:42:42
Positions of authority threaten the kids’ safe spaces yet again in “Save the Tree.” It’s a great one, full of top-tier Big Bob, Grandma, Helga, Arnold, and everything but the kitchen sink (actually, that too!) and some of our favorite writing of the show so far. Then, in “New Teacher,” the students of PS 118 realize too late how good they had it when they band together to reject an empathetic Mr. Simmons. We also talk about poem nerdery, LGBTQ+ representation, and episodes that empower kids to challenge the world around them. If you love the show, we’d love for you to leave a review! 23 Oct 202130A Ransom/30B Ms. Perfect00:39:39
“Ransom” reintroduces us to Gerald’s little sister, Timberly, who just wants her fair share of sibling time with her older brother. In “Ms. Perfect,” Helga and the girls tear down Lila, the new girl, for being so well-liked – not realizing their vindictiveness is one of the reasons they’re not. 30 Oct 202131A Monkey Business/31B Big Caesar00:38:37

Monkeynucleosis might not really turn you into a monkey, but it DOES turn Helga an interesting shade of paranoid when she gets it. In discussing “Monkey Business,” we talk about how we see our own anxieties and insecurities reflected in Helga’s panic as well as how the episode adds an interesting wrinkle to her and Arnold’s relationship. Then, we go fishin’ for “Big Caesar” – season 2’s first urban legend episode – and reel in our own great fishing stories, talking points about childhood nostalgia, and choosing mercy over sweet vindication. 06 Nov 202132A The High Life/32B Best Friends00:44:05
First, "The High Life" follows Gerald through the trials and tribulations of being the "star" salesman for a less-than-honest watchmaker. Then, we get a front row seat to the fallout of Nadine and Rhonda's latest fight in "Best Friends," as our favorite football head finds himself caught in friendship crossfire yet again. Whether you're a part of the gang or this is your first time on the stoop, we'd really appreciate it if you could leave us a review! 14 Nov 202133A Longest Monday/33B Eugene’s Pet00:46:57
It’s Trash Can Day – the most diabolical day ever invented – in “Longest Monday,” an annual tradition of tossing the powerless into garbage cans for sport. But are the fourth graders really afraid of getting canned? Or are they afraid of cycles of violence they can’t break? Then “Eugene’s Pet” becomes Arnold’s Victim when the football head accidentally kills his friend’s goldfish. Can Arnold ever make it up to him? Or is Eugene’s lovable unluckiness bound to follow him forever? Whether you're a part of the gang or this is your first time on the stoop, we'd really appreciate it if you could leave us a review! 19 Nov 202134A Mudbowl/34B Gerald Moves Out00:44:28
Football head becomes footballER in “Mudbowl,” kicking off a dramatic fourth-versus-fifth grade feud. Seeing the kids playing full-contact sports is a joy in itself, and it’s easy to get caught up in the rivalry with characters like Torvald and Wolfgang on board. You’ll never guess what happens in “Gerald Moves Out” – but we all feel a little weird about how the episode wraps up. At least it’s a great Grandpa episode! He’s such a wily old coot. Whether you're a part of the gang or this is your first time on the stoop, we'd really appreciate it if you could leave us a review! 27 Nov 202135A Freeze Frame/35B Phoebe Cheats00:52:18
In “Freeze Frame,” an homage to horror/thriller director Brian De Palma, Arnold and Gerald use their video camera to solve The Mystery of Porkpie and the Envelope in the Tree – which, of course, doesn’t exist – before a man meets his ignominious end. It’s a really fun episode about how kids use technology to understand their world and themselves! Then, exemplary student Phoebe Heyerdahl does the unthinkable in “Phoebe Cheats,” a star-studded episode that deals with the pressure of perfection, totems of guilt, parental support, Phoebe’s multiculturalism, and more. A couple of us sure cheated as kids (kinda…) and remember how it felt. It didn’t always feel bad. Don’t tell our parents or teachers we said that! Whether you're a part of the gang or this is your first time on the stoop, we'd really appreciate it if you could leave us a review! 05 Dec 202136A Helga's Love Potion/36B Gerald's Secret00:39:02
Helga tries a little too hard to reclaim her “misspent youth” by falling out of love with Arnold in “Helga’s Love Potion.” It’s not an easy break, though, and before long, she finds that her “orzo-shaped Prometheus” is actually the source of all of her deepest feelings – not just the pangs of unrequited love. In “Gerald’s Secret,” Arnold helps his best friend overcome a childhood fear of biking – but is he ready to learn? Whether you're a part of the gang or this is your first time on the stoop, we'd really appreciate it if you could leave us a review! 11 Dec 202137A Steely Phil/37B Quantity Time00:39:27
Grandpa is haunted by his own 40-year legacy as “Steely Phil,” the best Chinese checkers player in the city undone by his own drive to win, until Robby Fisher goads him back for one last match. What’s really great is we get to learn a lot more about Grandpa and the city along the way. In “Quantity Time,” Helga and Big Bob struggle to relate to each other when Miriam takes a few days off. They don’t really get along – Big Bob is too out of touch with his daughter and Helga doesn’t have the patience to deal with her dawdling dad – but they both give it a fair shake. Repressed, combative Patakis? I don’t believe it! Whether you're a part of the gang or this is your first time on the stoop, we'd really appreciate it if you could leave us a review! 18 Dec 202138A Eating Contest/38B Rhonda's Glasses00:51:21
Arnold finds his family’s legacy a little hard to swallow in “Eating Contest,” where he has to deal with Grandpa’s expectations behind him and reigning champ Seymour (aka “The Disposal”) in front of him. We also discuss Cody’s near-win at a chicken wing eating challenge and plan to raise his grandchild as his protégé to finally claim the prize. Spoiled, image-conscious Rhonda Wellington Lloyd finds herself among the outcasts when she gets some new headwear in “Rhonda’s Glasses,” but her embarrassment turns to outrage when she sees the unfair treatment PS 118’s geeks face every day – and before long, she finds herself crowned ‘Queen of the Geeks.’ It’s also an episode we remember fondly, and maybe oddly, for its depiction of the upper class and allegories to civil rights. 25 Dec 202139A Eugene Goes Bad/39B What's Opera, Arnold? (with Niky Horowitz)01:05:42
We’re thrilled to be joined by special guest Niky Horowitz! Niky watched a bunch of Nickelodeon with their grandma in the ‘90s as a kid and, like most of us, feels connected to another place and time by watching Hey Arnold! today. Once the naive, principled punching bag, Eugene discovers his own influence by accident when his hero, Arnie-like action star The Abdicator, turns out to be a phony in “Eugene Goes Bad”. Eugene lets his disappointment and disillusionment turn him into the cool, aloof greaser he never thought he’d become, unaware other kids look up to his example. It’s a great, nuanced episode that really gets you thinking about the standards and expectations we set for people in our lives, and how we impact them in turn. In “What’s Opera, Arnold?” the kids of PS 118 are sent on an opera field trip to better appreciate the art form. Of course, most of the kids fall asleep (they’re in fourth grade!), but in their dreams, Arnold and Helga get to live out their romantic fantasies through the lens of Carmen, Pagliacci, The Ring of the Nibelung, and more classic operatic works. By the time the fat lady sings, they’ve changed their tune – if only a little bit. 01 Jan 202240 Arnold’s Halloween (with Dan Nagan)01:00:11
Dan Nagan of Everything We Learned returns to help us close the last Hey Arnold! episode of season 2 with a SPOOKY bang! Arnold, Gerald, and Helga launch plans to scare the pants off the adults on Halloween by staging separate fake alien invasions. But when their plans accidentally merge, the town runs away with the idea that they really ARE being invaded. It’s reminiscent of Orson Welles’ 1938 The War of the Worlds broadcast, SIGNS (2002), and more mass hysteria classics – but at the same time, it also feels uniquely Hey Arnold! because all your favorite characters get so much to do in this episode. We also share our real-life pranks that went too far (Dan’s story is really wild), discuss the effect of mass media on the people in the Hey Arnold! universe, muse on the unifying nature of Halloween, and ponder whether or not PS 118 has a mascot. 12 Feb 202241A The Aptitude Test/41B Oskar Gets a Job01:00:58
WE’RE BACK with a rousing episode to kick off Season 3 of Hey Arnold! In “The Aptitude Test,” the kids of PS 118 get a glimpse into their possible career paths – and Harold and Helga are stunned at the results. The episode questions the true value of prescriptive standardized testing while pointing out the innate flaws of the American public schooling system – plus, we talk about what WE got on our aptitude tests in elementary school. “Oskar Gets a Job” is a somewhat muddier episode. After finally exhausting the goodwill of his housemates, Mr. Kokoshka does what nobody thought he could do: he tries making his own money (with Arnold’s help, of course). Even though it’s a straightforward episode about the biggest loser in the boarding house trying to turn things around, we couldn’t help but notice its strangely anti-communist undertones. 17 Feb 202242A Curly Snaps/42B Pre-Teen Scream00:44:34
Thaddeus Gammelthorpe – also known as Curly, “a real bon vivant” – finally gets his turn as ball monitor on the playground at PS 118… but is unjustly denied his rightful title the day of his coronation! In retaliation, Curly stages a grand brouhaha in Principal Wartz’s office in “Curly Snaps,” occupying it with a horde of dodgeballs until Mr. Simmons gives in to Curly’s demands. It’s a really fun, referential episode that also inspired Harry’s choice of Twitter avatar! Phoebe is a big fan of Ronnie Matthews, so naturally, she’s heartbroken to find out he doesn’t write, sing, or play his own songs in “Pre-Teen Scream”. Although it echoes a few other ‘meeting your heroes’ episodes of Hey Arnold! – like Mickey Kaline in “The Baseball” or The Abdicator in “Eugene Goes Bad” – but instead of focusing on exposing a phony, it focuses on what our interests, and who we choose to share them with, say about us. 24 Feb 202243A Stinky Goes Hollywood/43B Olga Gets Engaged00:51:01
“Yahoo Soda® – Just Drink It!™” In “Stinky Goes Hollywood,” everyone’s favorite hillbilly discovers the dark side of fame when he finds out his big break as Yahoo Soda spokeskid came at the cost of his dignity. Despite it all, Stinky has no trouble staying true to himself, giving up a million-dollar TV contract to find the self-respect that’s worth much more. “Olga Gets Engaged” starts out like a typical ‘Helga’s jealous’ setup: the too-perfect Doug LeSham asks for Olgas hand in marriage, much to Helga’s jealousy and dismay. But that’s only the start, as the episode slowly reveals LeSham’s true intentions – and Helga’s protectiveness of her sister. Wanna see more Hey Arnold! stuff? How about some fun, goofy posts? 04 Mar 202244A Crabby Author/44B Rich Kid00:47:44
WARNING: the episode you are about to listen to was recorded in the absence of super producer Jason, and when the cat is away… the stoop kidz must play. And, as if on cue, two episodes appeared that seem tailor-made to get us a little unhinged. First, we litigate Hey Arnold's take on "don't meet your heroes" (It's ok if you're Arnold) in a discussion on how Arnold so frequently manages to avoid didacticism despite its obvious moral bent and how this one falls short. Then, we (poorly) try to conceal our infatuation with Lorenzo's hot mom seething antipathy for the rich in order to welcome - and bid a fond farewell - to Lorenzo, the only good rich kid. We may also diverge into rather spirited conversations on topics such as anxiety (surprise), being the new kid, why visionary anime director Hayao Miyazaki probably wouldn't like us much, and George Miller's heartbreaking Academy Award nominated 1992 drama, LORENZO'S OIL. Like we said, Jason wasn't here for this one. Wanna see more Hey Arnold! stuff? How about some fun, goofy posts? 19 Mar 202246A Arnold Betrays Iggy/46B Helga and the Nanny (with Charlie Mackin)00:54:06
Charlie Mackin (https://twitter.com/charliemander13) is “Really Back In” for another episode of Stoop Kidz! We're about to make a statement that may SHOCK long-time listeners: as it turns out, Hey Arnold! is a good television show. We like it an awful lot. Therefore, most of these episodes are… enthusiastic, to say the least. Sometimes, we even joke about it: "is it fun listening to us gush week after week?" We say, "I wonder what it would be like if we DIDN'T like every episode?!" Then Arnold betrayed Iggy, and Helga got a nanny. First, join us as we discuss the infamous episode of Hey Arnold! almost (Harry notwithstanding) unanimously declared the worst in the series, "Arnold Betrays Iggy!" Then, special guest and tireless Helga Pataki defender Charlie Mackin (@Charliemander13) joins us in the second half to discuss "Helga's Nanny," power differentials, the relationships we have with the people we let down, and… post Cold War Eastern European economic anxiety? In the process, we learn the answer to the question we often jokingly pose: when we don't like an episode, we still find plenty to jaw about. We just get… squirrely in the process. 26 Mar 202247A Dangerous Lumber/47B Mr. Hyunh Goes Country (with O'Dell Harmon, Jr.)01:03:29
Writer, podcaster, gamer, and all-around fan of ‘90s stuff O’Dell Harmon, Jr. (https://twitter.com/ODellHarmonJr) joins the Kidz to chat about two of his favorite Hey Arnold! episodes! Arnold comes to grips with his true strength in “Dangerous Lumber” and thinks he has to decide between the love of the game and the safety of his team. But some sound advice from retired Hillwood Black Sox player (and current stadium janitor) Mickey Kaline brings Arnold back around. In “Mr. Hyunh Goes Country," Arnold and Gerald see dollar signs when Mr. Hyunh’s ineffable twang makes him a radio hit – but what does Mr. Hyunh really want for himself? In this episode, we reckon with these two classic stories, remark on Mr. Hyunh’s songwriting chops, lament the new Chicken McNuggets formula, and wonder how the heck two fourth-graders manage to get away with so much. 01 Apr 202248A Arnold's Room/48B Helga vs. Big Patty (with Drew Tenenbaum)01:10:04
With returning guest Drew Tenenbaum (https://twitter.com/AshCoolBro), the Kidz talk about two episodes that focus on social performance and maintenance of appearances! When Sid and Lorenzo become study buddies in “Arnold’s Room,” the class division between the kids of PS 118 comes to a minor head. Lorenzo’s house is decked out, while Sid is ashamed of his meager digs. So Sid cons Arnold into letting him pretend Arnold’s cool “urban post-industrial rebop batcave” is actually his own bedroom – one too many times. Then Helga discovers a hidden side of one of the school’s most misunderstood girls in “Helga vs. Big Patty,” but it’s not as easy as seeing her softer side. All that and a good bit of talk about Lorenzo’s mom. We know who we are. Wanna see more Hey Arnold! stuff? How about some fun, goofy posts? 09 Apr 202249A Career Day/49B Hey Harold!00:57:20
“Career Day” again exposes the kids of PS 118 to the working class of Hillwood, but The Jolly Olly Man isn’t so jolly to be working for his profiteering dad. While the other kids fight fires, jiu jitsu criminals, and demolish buildings, Arnold helps the Jolly Olly Man smooth over some rough edges to make the best of a job he doesn’t love so he can get back at his dad. Yeah, it’s got some muddled messaging – and we talk all about it! “Hey Harold!” cooks up an unlikely romance between Harold and Big Patty that mirrors Helga’s obsession with Arnold in a few fun ways. More importantly, it’s an episode that makes the case for Big Patty as one of the series’s best characters. Wanna see more Hey Arnold! stuff? How about some fun, goofy posts? 16 Apr 202250A Casa Paradiso/50B Gerald's Tonsils (with Hannah Borenstein)01:01:47
PhD Candidate and writer Hannah Borenstein (https://twitter.com/hborenstein23) stops by the stoop to talk about two classically nuanced, more-mature-than-they-seem episodes of Hey Arnold! The boarders at Sunset Arms rally to convince Grandpa he shouldn’t sell their home and move to a tropical resort in “Casa Paradiso,” an exemplary Hey Arnold! episode about how communities are made and broken. (It also shows up in Hannah’s recent article for Slate – check out the link below!) “Gerald’s Tonsils” – in which Gerald’s voice deepens after having his tonsils removed just before the school play – was written to keep Jamil Walker Smith, Gerald’s voice actor, in the role while his voice was changing after he hit puberty. But it’s also a story of Gerald finding confidence and inspiration through his Black community and Black art. 28 Apr 202252A Best Man/52B Cool Party (with Wayne Stainrook)01:02:00
It’s been two seasons and more than 40 episodes since Wayne Stainrook joined the Kidz, but he’s back for a stoop encore (https://twitter.com/stainwaynerook)! Arnold finds himself between rocks and hard places in this double (football) header: First, he’s compelled to help coach Coach Wittenberg through his marital struggles and ends up sharing a bit of sage fourth-grader advice in “Best Man”; in “Cool Party,” he’s happy to join Rhonda’s bash – until he realizes why not everyone was invited. 07 May 202253A Sid's Revenge/53B Roller Coaster (with Dan Nagan)01:09:16
Dan Nagan of Everything We Learned makes Stoop Kidz! history as the first guest to join for an episode in all three seasons! “Sid’s Revenge” is a downright psychological horror episode: Sid carves an effigy of Principal Wartz to get back at him for detention, but is SHOOK when the principal ends up in the hospital. Assuming he’s killed his principal, Sid descends into anxious, sleepless nights. Can his friend Arnold save him from his own paranoia? In “Roller Coaster,” Eugene “The Jinx” is still a magnet for bad luck. Despite his reputation, Arnold extends an olive branch by hopping on a roller coaster with him – and, of course, gets caught up in Eugene’s tropical storm of misfortune. Trapped for hours at the top of the ride, Arnold and Eugene respond to their predicament in different ways (Eugene by singing “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” and Arnold by losing his mind), and it’s only together that they can lift each other out of it. 13 May 202254A Grandpa's Birthday/54B Road Trip (with Drew Tenenbaum)01:10:33
Drew is back on the stoop to shoot the breeze about more Hey Arnold! Grandpa’s convinced his 81st birthday will be his last in “Grandpa’s Birthday,” despite being told by the doctor that he’s so healthy he could live another lifetime. Seriously, medical science can’t explain how healthy he is for his age. All the same, Arnold treats every minute with Grandpa like it’s his last… even though he knows it isn’t. Helga and Miriam hit the road in “Road Trip” and quickly fall into a spiraling series of mishaps, left gasless and directionless until they find out that the solution to all of their problems was each other all along. It’s either very Goofy Movie or very Lady Bird, depending on what movies you watched as a kid. 21 Apr 202251A Phoebe Takes the Fall (with Erica Csuy)/51B The Pig War (with Ellie DeMuth)00:51:24
Featuring special guests (and Emily’s cousins) Erica Csuy and Ellie DeMuth! To get one over on Olga (and maybe earn Big Bob’s affection), Helga risks her friendship with Phoebe by asking her to throw a school contest in “Phoebe Takes the Fall”. In “The Pig War,” the students are treated to a bit of local history when Grandpa signs them up – along with Arnold’s pet pig, Abner – to participate in a reenactment of a British-American conflict. What Grandpa forgot to tell them was that the winner gets to make bacon out of the volunteer pig! Wanna see more Hey Arnold! stuff? How about some fun, goofy posts? 21 May 202255A Arnold & Lila/55B Grand Prix (with Niky Horowitz)00:59:40

Niky Horowitz is back on the stoop! Helga, queen apparent of leaving the right messages in the wrong places, confesses her love for Football Head on an alleyway wall in “Arnold & Lila” only to change it to “Arnold Loves Lila” a hurried scrawl before anyone can see. When Lila gets wind of the supposed back-alley confession, Arnold himself is left wondering if there’s some truth to the writing on the wall. There’s strength in numbers in “Grand Prix,” where the kids form an unlikely alliance to take down a common enemy. WIth each of their go-karts trashed in the qualifying round of the All-City Junior Go-Kart Race, Arnold, Sid, Stinky, Eugene, Helga, Phoebe, and Harold scrap them all to create a brand-new kart – the Mauve Avenger – just in time to take down Wolfgang. 28 May 202256 Arnold's Thanksgiving (with Jason Dafnis)01:14:51
We’re thankful, all right – for Hey Arnold!, for our listeners, and for superproducer Jason Dafnis (https://twitter.com/nintendufus), who’s stepping out from behind the soundboard to celebrate Thanksgiving in May with the rest of the Stoop Kidz! Hey Arnold! kind of has its knives out for Turkey Day. At Sunset Arms, the boarders all go along with Grandma’s delusion that it’s actually the Fourth of July, and Arnold doesn’t love that it doesn’t look like a traditional Thanksgiving. At the Pataki household, on the other hand, it couldn’t be a more traditional affair: the whole family gathered around the table, a smorgasbord of food, and football on the TV. But because her family’s got plenty of issues that keep them from really connecting, Helga doesn’t like her holiday any more than Arnold likes his. United in disillusion, they both think they’ll find the meaning of Thanksgiving at Mr. Simmons’s house, where he’s gathered all his loved ones – only to be surprised (and a little depressed) at what they find there. It’s a charged episode and we dig right in and ask for seconds! We touch on how the show lampoons the colonialist myth of Thanksgiving, Mr. Simmons’s increasingly obvious queerness, what the Thanksgiving experience does to Helga and Arnold’s relationship, and how the episode almost doesn’t stick the landing. 02 Jun 202257A Girl Trouble/57B School Dance (with Seth Zarate)01:06:07
At long last, Seth (https://twitter.com/snzarate) is back on the stoop! Arnold and Helga dance around their complicated relationship yet again in “Girl Trouble,” where Helga’s thinly veiled love for the football headed kid comes to a head during a group project in history class. Helga’s ribbing pushes Arnold to his breaking point, earning him detention and some much-needed humility, as Grandpa parallels their tumultuous relationship with one he had with a young girl named Gertie back in the day… Arnold’s in charge of entertainment for the school dance in “School Dance,” and much to the chagrin of his schoolmates, he’s picked oldhead favorite and crooner Dino Spumoni for one last swing. Will the kids come around to see that his choice is so out he’s actually in? School Dance King Seth weighs in! Wanna see more Hey Arnold! stuff? How about some fun, goofy posts? Give a round of applause for Wayne (https://twitter.com/stainwaynerook), who’s putting on his best stage makeup and rehearsing his lines to talk about a special double-length episode of Hey Arnold! In “School Play,” Arnold is set on playing the part the right way – a true artiste. 24 Jun 202260 Parents Day (with Charlie Mackin)01:10:02
Returning guest Charlie Mackin (https://twitter.com/charliemander13) helps us close out Season 3’s episode discussions – and boy, it’s a doozy! “𝙊𝙧𝙥𝙝𝙖𝙣 𝙠𝙞𝙙.” Big Bob’s name-calling at the Parents Tournament Weekend gets Arnold thinking of the mom and dad he doesn’t remember in “Parents Day,” leading Arnold to ask Grandpa to tell him what really happened to his parents. What follows is an emotional revelation that adds context to some of Arnold’s best features: his altruism, his optimism, and his desire to see only the best in everyone. But it’s also a catharsis for Arnold as he comes to terms with the family he has – and for us as we join Arnold in yearning for closure in the wake of trauma. In this episode, we talk about how “Parents Day” came into each of our lives, what sticks out now that went over our heads as kids, why it reminds Harry of The X-Files, and how a show that’s so innocent can be so deeply, deeply emotional. 09 Jul 2022The Sound of 1998: Reviewing "Now That's What I Call Music Vol. 1" (with Seth Zarate)01:23:02

Hopefully this season of Stoop Kidz! has helped you get into the 1998 mood! To get us the rest of the way there, we’re taking an episode to reminisce about one of the heavy-hitting tastemakers of the compact disc-based, pre-streaming age: Now That’s What I Call Music! The first U.S. volume of Now came out the same year as season 3 of Hey Arnold!, so we invited friend of the show and pop music fan Seth to go track-by-track through the sound of 1998. We recall memories associated with these songs, all the hits, all the misses, and then pick our favorites and least favorites from the whole volume. Songs discussed in this episode: Janet Jackson - “Together Again” The Backstreet Boys - “As Long as You Love Me” Fastball - “The Way” Harvey Danger - “Flagpole Sitta” The Spice Girls - “Say You’ll Be There” K-Ci & JoJo - “All My Life” All Saints - “Never Ever” Tonic - “If You Could Only See” Hanson - “MMMBop” Cherry Poppin’ Daddies - “Zoot Suit Riot” Imajin - “Shorty (You Keep Playin’ With My Mind) (feat. NOTE: This is an 𝙪𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙙 episode of Stoop Kidz! Keep in mind you’ll hear some naughty words in this episode that we bleep on our regular episodes. Thanks! He’s back! Craig Bartlett, the creator of Hey Arnold! himself, stops by the stoop once more to catch up, discuss what we’ve seen of the show so far, and share memories of what it was like to help turn Hey Arnold! into the show we know and love today. In this special interview episode, Craig talks about the big differences between Season 1 and the rest of the series, how Helga and Arnold’s relationship came to the forefront of the show, the inside scoop on Parents Day, and how some of these episodes still make people tear up after all this time – even the people who wrote them. 03 Sep 202262A Dinner for Four/62B Phoebe Skips00:46:57
Helga’s scheme to impress her friends by taking them out for some fine dining goes wrong when she runs up a bill at the wrong restaurant in “Dinner for Four”. Luckily, her beloved Football Head is there to steer her out of the moral quandary – even if it means a night of washing dishes to pay it all back. Helga and Phoebe rediscover just how inseparable they are when the brainiac decides to advance to the sixth grade in “Phoebe Skips”: Helga is left sidekick-less, Phoebe is adrift without Helga’s brash defensiveness, and they’re both left without a best friend. When Sid, Harold, and Stinky are accused (correctly) of mooning Principal Wartz in “Full Moon,” Arnold could get a permanent mark on his record for keeping his trap shut. “Student Teacher” sees the return – and weird, unceremonious departure – of Helga’s least favorite sister-turned-sub. 24 Sep 202265A The Beeper Queen/65B Oskar Can't Read? (with Allegra Frank)00:57:01
Class is in session and Slate editor Allegra Frank is taking her seat! In “The Beeper Queen,” we get to see Helga’s relationship with her mom in a new light when Miriam takes over for Big Bob at the beeper store before the business gets the better of them both. 30 Sep 202266A Headless Cabbie/66B Friday the 13th (with Dan Nagan)01:07:48
Dan Nagan (https://twitter.com/adapperdanman) is lurking in the background, ready to getcha when you least expect it! The kids of Hillwood start to wonder if a local myth is real as the coincidences pile up in “Headless Cabbie”. If you haven’t seen it, imagine the Hash-Slinging Slasher from SpongeBob. In “Friday the 13th,” Arnold and Gerald investigate another string of coincidences that seem just too perfect to be real… Find Dan and listen to his movie podcast, Everything We Learned, at the links below: - https://twitter.com/adapperdanman/ - https://letterboxd.com/adapperdanman/ - Everything We Learned on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/everything-we-learned/id1184071273 - If you play Final Fantasy XIV, find Dan on the Diablo server as “Hulk Smashworth” If you like Stoop Kidz!, tell a friend about our show and leave us a review on Apple Podcasts! 07 Oct 202267A Helga's Parrot/67B Chocolate Turtles00:55:21
It’s a weird pair of episodes on this edition of Stoop Kidz! Helga’s pet parrot might squawk her deepest secrets in “Helga’s Parrot,” leading her on a wild bird chase across Hillwood that ends in the most natural, traumatizing way possible. As ‘future Chocolate Lads,’ Arnold and Gerald make money hand over fist to raise money for a go-kart in “Chocolate Turtles,” only to find themselves on the losing end of their own capitalist charade. 14 Oct 202268A Love and Cheese/68B Weighing Harold (with Drew Tenenbaum)01:02:28
Drew "Not a Himbo" Tenenbaum returns to Stoop Kidz! Helga seeks to ruin Arnold and Lila’s time at the Cheese Festival in “Love and Cheese,” a sort of slant-sequel to “Operation Ruthless.” Then Harold’s size is suddenly the talk of the town in “Weighing Harold,” in which he gains weight on a trip where he was trying to lose it. 22 Oct 202269A It Girl/69B Deconstructing Arnold00:52:01
Fashion designer Johnny Stitches discovers Helga’s hidden talent for the runway and makes her the new “It Girl”. The more she leans into her prickly persona, the more the crowd loves it. But she’s not a fan of having her ‘natural’ meanness, nastiness, and insensitivity co-opted by everyone in town, so she starts looking for an out. Arnold is separated from his own essential self (a nosy, do-gooder fount of advice) in “Deconstructing Arnold,” when his friends implore him to stop being such a kibitzer (that’s Yiddish for ‘big, fat buttinski’). It’s not long before several moments of crisis have them yearning for his avuncular advice, but Helga steps in to fill the gap – and her suggestions turn P.S. 118 a bit of an amoral bedlam. 29 Oct 202270A Grudge Match/70B Polishing Rhonda00:52:54
Grandpa has until Sunday to train for a game of golf against Big Bob, and the loser’s on the hook for damages after their contentious fender bender. With a big bill on the line, can Arnold whip Grandpa into golfing shape before tee time in “Grudge Match”? Big Patty and Rhonda get some facetime in “Polishing Rhonda,” where the young socialite risks getting kicked out of finishing school for her self-centeredness. And who should she run into at that same finishing school than humble brute – and frequent target of Rhonda’s derision – Big Patty? New kid Dylan Guerber shows up on time for his first episode of Stoop Kidz! Grandpa never finished grade school, so the ever-helpful Arnold brings him to PS 118 for some remedial education in “Back to School”. In “Egg Story,” Arnold goes on the defensive before Helga can lay into him during a class project, unaware she was going to give the whole ‘being nice’ thing a try. 18 Nov 202273A Weird Cousin/73B Baby Oskar with Dan Nagan01:14:05
Welcome Dan Nagan of Everything We Learned (https://twitter.com/adapperdanman) back to the stoop! Arnie, Arnold’s country bumpkin cousin, is a bit of a chad. Such is Arnold’s plight in “Weird Cousin,” which has big ENEMY (2013) vibes. In “Baby Oskar,” there’s a baby named Oskar and Oskar Kokoshka, who is not a baby but often acts like one, has to take care of the baby named Oskar. Hope that’s clear enough for ya. Can Adult Man Oskar overcome his immaturity and dependence long enough to care for an immature, dependent baby? 03 Dec 202274A Helga Sleepwalks/74B Fighting Families00:38:08
In “Helga Sleepwalks,” a poor choice (eating only pork rinds for days on end) has bad consequences for Helga – namely, her somnambulant confessions of love for Arnold! It’s one of the first episodes where she really starts to recognize how holding in her feelings is affecting her. In “Fighting Families,” Arnold, Grandpa, Grandma, and a couple of the boarders make a game show appearance and they don’t compare favorably to the prim and proper nuclear family on the other team. This being Hey Arnold!, though, you know it’s gonna end well for Arnold and his weird found family. If you like Stoop Kidz!, tell a friend about our show and leave us a review on Apple Podcasts! 10 Dec 202275A Monkeyman!/75B Buses, Bikes, and Subways (with Seth Zarate)01:09:15
Our own superhero Seth Zarate (https://twitter.com/snzarate) is back to assist the weak and downtrodden with another guest appearance! It wouldn’t be another day in Hillwood without another vigilante realizing he doesn’t fit in with “normal” society! In “Monkeyman!,” Monkeyman gets a taste of everyday life with Arnold’s help – but the simian superhero finds it hard to let go of his apelike adventurousness. In “Buses, Bikes, and Subways,” Helga and Harold have to find a way back to town after the bus strands them on a field trip. It’s called “intermodal transportation,” kids, and Helga will leverage any means she can to get back in time for WrestleMania. Also, Cody’s never had a banana split?????????????? 17 Dec 202276A Grandpa's Sister/76B Synchronized Swimming00:54:33
Grandpa Phil and his twin sister, Mitzi, don’t get along. Like, at all. With beef that goes back decades, can Arnold insert himself as mediator before the fraternal feud boils over into disaster in “Grandpa’s Sister”? In “Synchronized Swimming,” Coach Wittenberg wants to show Arnold, Gerald, Harold, Stinky, and Stinky that synchronized swimming isn’t just for girls. (And save his job.) In the process, he gives them a place to express themselves and their emotions through water-based dance. 24 Dec 202277A Helga's Masquerade/77B Mr. Green Runs (with Hannah Borenstein)01:10:03
Hannah Borenstein is back to tackle two more classic eps with the Kidz! Helga’s ruse goes awry in “Helga’s Masquerade” when she mimics Lila to earn Arnold’s affection, only to earn it for the wrong reasons. Local politics have kept necessary road repairs at bay for too long, so Mr. Green seeks a seat on the Hillwood City Council in “Mr. Green Runs.” It’s an episode that highlights the types of people who become powerful at a local level, being a self-styled voice of the people, and what it means to become part of the civic machine. 31 Dec 202278 Helga on the Couch (with Charlie Mackin)01:06:13
Charlie Mackin stops by to discuss one of the most important episodes of Hey Arnold! and a classic in its own right! “Helga on the Couch” is remembered as an episode that changed everything for Helga. An outburst like any other turns into school-mandated therapy sessions with Dr. Bliss, a child psychologist assigned to PS 118. On the couch (and in the chair and behind the dart board and pacing the room), Helga comes to terms (almost accidentally) with the love she feels for Arnold, tying it directly to the love Big Bob and Miriam gave to Olga instead of her. It’s a climactic episode that provides serious catharsis for Helga and the audience alike, while managing to keep the tension of Helga’s secret taut as ever. Also, Baby Arnold forever. 07 Jan 202379 Dino Checks Out00:43:20
“Here lies Dino Spumoni,” lies a lying tombstone for the low-rent Sinatra himself! Hoping to see a postmortem popularity bump, Dino Spumoni fakes his death and moves back to Sunset Arms, where he grew up. The spoof works arguably too well, and in typical Hey Arnold! fashion, Dino gets exactly what he wants in the exact way he doesn’t want it: Impersonators fill the Dino-shaped hole, leaving Dino second-guessing his simulated suicide. 14 Jan 202380 Summer Love00:46:34
Arnold and Helga end up at the same beach resort for what’s supposed to be a relaxing summertime getaway. But before Helga can put Operation Be Nice to Arnold into action, Summer (the girl) comes calling for Arnold, threatening to ruin Helga’s whole summer (the season). Helga warns a smitten Arnold that the bombshell isn’t all that she seems, but given their contentious relationship, Arnold isn’t quite ready to believe Helga. Some episodes of Hey Arnold! feel cursed – like despite top-tier writing talent and a great premise, they still miss the mark and leave a terrible taste behind. “Summer Love” is one of those rare strange episodes that just doesn’t sit right. In this episode, the Kidz mull over the implications of this fateful summer vacation, the strange side-plots that litter the beach, and why this one feels worse than sand in your swim shorts. 17 Feb 202381A Sid the Vampire Slayer/81B Big Sis00:53:04
Velcome back to Season 5 of Stoop Kidz! and Hey Arnold! Ze final season kicks off vith a vonderfully vacky tale of… mistaken identity. Is Stinky a creature of ze night just because he vears sunglasses, hates garlic, and looks forvard to ze blood drive? In “Sid the Vampire Slayer,” Sid certainly seems to think so! Can Arnold talk his beetle-booted buddy out of his delusion? The ever-charming Olga is back in “Big Sis,” only this time, she’s taken Lila under her wing. Helga barely has time to revel in her newfound distance from her sister before she develops a jealousy for Little Miss Perfect, threatening the already tenuous bond Helga feels for her older sister. 25 Feb 202382A Gerald's Game/82B Fishing Trip00:55:19
Gerald gets a little bit too into The King Rules, a card game, in “Gerald’s Game”. It becomes a bit of a point of shame, prompting Arnold to (you guessed it) intervene to get his friend back. How necessary was that? Why couldn’t two best friends just learn to play a game together? Listen in to find out! It’s a boys’ weekend in “Fishing Trip” when Arnold, Gerald, Sid, Harold, and Eugene get together with their fathers and Grandpa for some lakeside bonding. It’s a fun, flatulent episode of Hey Arnold! that ALMOST becomes a smart critique of masculine inability to communicate. 03 Mar 202383A Bag of Money/83B Principal Simmons (with Drew Tenenbaum)01:21:09
Drew’s back and he’s carrying exactly $3,937 cash in a bag! (Or is it just a bunch of birdseed?) When Arnold, Gerald, and Sid find a bag filled with thousands of dollars in “Bag of Money”, it kicks off a nightmarish plot of distrust and cynicism among the friends. It’s one of the most infamous episodes of Hey Arnold!, up there with “Arnold Betrays Iggy” as an episode nobody really likes! Why’s that? Tune in! Mr. Wartz is OUT and Mr. Simmons is IN – as principal! – in “Principal Simmons”! When the crochety principal finally caves to criticism, the genteel educator steps into his shoes, but he doesn’t really like what he finds. Yelling at kids all day long ain’t exactly easy, y’know. DUDE! Wolfgang meets his match when the new kid, Ludwig, attempts to take over his turf – the hallowed vacant lot – in “New Bully on the Block”. Phoebe’s finally had it with Helga’s bossing around in “Phoebe Breaks a Leg,” leading the people-pleasing mathlete to take drastic measures just to get out from under Helga’s thumb – faking a broken leg! Rhonda gets a taste of working class living conditions (Sunset Arms) when Daddy Lloyd’s stocks go bunko in “Rhonda Goes Broke”! It all wraps up pretty conveniently, before Rhonda has time to learn a whole lot, which is kind of how it works for rich people in real life, too. 23 Mar 202386A Helga's Locket/86B Sid and Germs (with Dan Nagan)01:09:05
YOU FORGOT YOUR MOUSTACHE!!! Dan Nagan (https://twitter.com/adapperdanman) is back! “Helga’s Locket” is a lot like “Helga Blabs It All,” except instead of a voicemail, she’s trying to prevent Arnold from reading the confessional inscription on a love locket she made! Grandpa gets ahold of it but can’t open it, leading to a convoluted series of events that keeps it JUST out of Helga’s reach. Depending on how you look at it, it’s either too plain or it reaches Simpsons levels of goofy cartoonishness! In “Sid and Germs”, the Beatle-booted boy develops a sudden germophobia on the cusp of Hillwood’s prestigious frog-catching contest. It’s an episode that puts Sid BACK in full paranoia mode, which isn’t his worst mode, tbh. 01 Apr 202387A Beaned/87B Old Iron Man (with Ryan Csuy)01:08:18
Welcome yet another Csuy to the podcast – Ryan Csuy makes his debut on the stoop! In “Beaned,” Helga develops traumatic amnesia (watch out for that baseball!), igniting Arnold’s caretaker instincts. It’s so nice that even after she recovers, Helga pretends she’s still out of it just to get more attention from Arnold without having to say she wants it. An old rivalry is given new life in “Old Iron Man” when former coworker and friend-turned-boss man Jimmy Kafka resurfaces in Grandpa’s life. Can they put aside their differences or will they succumb to old man anger? 06 Apr 202388A Ghost Bride/88B Gerald vs. Jamie O (with Niky Horowitz)01:09:42
It all started a hundred years ago, in 1923… actually, it started in March 2023 when we recorded this episode with Niky Horowitz! Hillwood’s urban legends take a turn for the tragically romantic when Arnold and friends learn of the Ghost Bride (and her philandering sister!) in “Ghost Bride”. Nike’s back for their second Jamie O.-centric episode with “Gerald vs. Jamie O.,” which pits brother against brother in Gerald’s bid for the attention of pretty teenager Chloe. 14 Apr 202389A Suspended/89B Ernie in Love (with Charlie Mackin)00:58:59
Charlie realized that not being a guest on Stoop Kidz! isn’t so cool after all, so she climbed up to our window, built a giant slingshot, put on a pizza delivery disguise, and straight-up BEGGED to be back on! Actually, that’s just what Harold does to get back into school in “Suspended”. Not even the school constitution can help lift Harold’s weeks-long ban from school! Short guy Ernie just wants a tall wife in “Ernie in Love,” but he gets a little overzealous in dating Lola. She’s just not that into him, and they’d look strange together, and you can’t really talk about attraction in a kids’ cartoon – but there might be a positive message to read in Ernie and Lola’s tryst, and we wanted to get to the heart of it!
