09 Jul 201963: [On Air Coaching] How to Begin Building Culture Within a Virtual Team with Deb Howard Greenleaf00:36:54

Creating a positive and productive team culture where everyone works well together to achieve business goals is every CEO’s dream. But, what about all of the virtual teams out there? How can you even begin to build the culture that you want within a virtual team?

This is the task set out before Deb Howard Greenleaf, who lives in northwestern Pennsylvania and is the mother of two active swimmers, ages 14 and 18. She runs Greenleaf Accounting Services, providing virtual bookkeeping services to consultants, coaches and other service-based businesses from NYC to LA, taking care of the books so they can grow their firms. When she’s not balancing books or attending her kids’ swim meets, Deb volunteers for local animal shelters and beats back the wilderness in her three-acre yard and gardens.

Although she’s incredibly proud of her team, Deb has realized that the team culture they have isn’t what she had in mind. They’re still coming to her with typical “water cooler” questions and lack the relationship with each other to discuss and solve matters without Deb’s interjection.

So, how can you build the perfect team culture when your team doesn’t work in the same place or even at the same time? This is a tricky one, but Shelli Warren has lots of tips and advice to share with Deb about getting creative and intentional about creating a drumbeat within her team that shifts the narrative and changes how team members interact with each other.

In this episode, you’ll discover:

  • How to build a self-sufficient virtual team and close an open-door policy
  • Why you should host regular video call meetings with your virtual team
  • How to create a sense of shared leadership

Stacking a diverse team across generations is something to be admired. But, grappling with generational differences can be a minefield when everyone has their own preference for getting information. 16 Apr 201951: Rolling Out Big Compensation Changes to Your Team00:41:10

Have you ever wanted to introduce a change to your business that your team wasn’t fully onboard with? Rolling out a full-blown change that isn’t welcomed by everyone in your team puts you in a difficult position. But, if you know in your heart that it’s a necessary change that needs to happen to move your business forward, you shouldn’t let fear stop you.

Shelli’s guest on this episode of Stacking Your Team, Micaela Zettel, knew that something wasn’t quite right in her business. Something was missing. Instead of tiptoeing around the issue, she found the courage to introduce the change she needed to scale her business. After making the decision to change her compensation plan, she took a step back to see who would embrace the change, and who would opt out.

Listen in to hear why Micaela decided to roll out big changes to her compensation plan and how she was able to expand her business using this new structure. You’ll also hear how her team took the news and the impact these changes had on the bottom line.

When the dust settled, her team didn’t look the same as it once did. However, the experience taught her a valuable lesson: the team that got you here might not be the team to get you there.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • How to implement a tiered based compensation plan
  • How to build a team of high performers
  • The power of mentorship and having a business coach to help you stay motivated

29 Jan 201940: Lead with your Enneagram Superpower with Teresa McCloy01:05:17

Do you know what your Enneagram superpower is? Determining your personality type through the Enneagram equips you with a greater understanding of who you are. It helps you to take a step outside of your limited perspective to evaluate your own life while lighting the path to help you overcome your blind spots!

If this is your first time hearing about the Enneagram, don’t worry! We’ve invited the wonderful Teresa McCloy onto the show, who is a certified Enneagram coach, speaker and the creator of the REALIFE Process to talk about it in more detail.

Teresa turned to the Enneagram tool at a time in her life when she struggled to distinguish the difference between being productive and just plain busy. She used the Enneagram to help her understand the way she thinks, feels, acts, and reacts. Equipped with this knowledge of her true self, she was able to create the REALIFE Process and began integrating this approach of intentional living to all aspects of her life.

In this episode, Shelli and Teresa explore the benefits of using the Enneagram to lead a more fulfilling and happier life. They also share insights into each personality type, and Teresa reveals how you can stack your team using the superpowers of the Enneagram.

In this episode, you’ll discover:

  • What the Enneagram is and why it’s so important
  • Why it’s important for leaders to identify both their Enneagram superpowers and their kryptonite
  • An insight into the different characteristics of the nine personality types of the Enneagram
  • The pros and cons of each personality type
  • How each personality type copes with being a leader and empowering their team
  • How the three centers of intelligence (mind, heart, and body) work differently with each personality type
  • Why you should think about what Enneagram types you need on your team
  • The importance of having a coach or mentor to ask you the right questions to help you take a step back and think your decisions through
  • How the Enneagram invites you to take a deeper look at your inner self and discover new ways to improve your leadership skills
  • A few famous leaders from each of the nine personality types
  • …and so much more!
