Of course you know Allison Rosen because she’s your best friend. How could you not know the host of the podcast Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend? Alison spent her childhood being friends to a great number of birds, including baby chicks that grew into chickens, baby ducklings that grew into ducks, and a quail named Robert who pretty much just stayed a quail named Robert. Everyone involved in this bird relationship had the best of intentions and for the most part things worked out okay. On the HBO show Barry, for which comedian Emily Heller is a writer, there is a great deal of suspense, gunfire, and overall tension, which would make it hard for those characters to ever get any sleep. And come to think of it, we never see them do so. Fortunately, in real life, Emily has interests that are much more pastoral. She enrolled in a program by which she replaced her lawn with a variety of plants that are much better for water usage in Los Angeles and then the city reimbursed her for the project. It’s all part of a grant program that Emily will explain in long, soothing detail.

“Sara Schaefer is an American stand-up comedian, writer, and author,” says the website Wikipedia. And who are we to disagree with such a characterization? Our only quibble with this description is that it fails to list her notable status as a miniaturist. That’s right, Sleepyheads, Sara builds tiny, tiny versions of things that are, in real life, quite a bit larger. We think you’ll enjoy this journey into miniaturization and perhaps Sara’s art will make your stresses and worries seem smaller and more manageable as well. Jason explains to us, at sleep-inducing length and snoozable levels of detail, some of the myths and facts about bunny husbandry, including that you shouldn't feed them carrots but you should expect them to be surprisingly furious if you put a paper plate in their cage. Obviously, Seattle has a rich and vibrant wizard scene. We all know this. Well, one day, one of the wizards turned a tugboat named Louie into a human being and Louie decided to do one of the most Seattle things possible: open a teriyaki restaurant. He was really good at it. The meat was not too soggy but not burnt, the glaze was sweet and just a little salty, the cursory salad was fine. And after a while, Louie had thoughts of expanding to new locations but then didn’t.

He is from Chicago but now lives in Los Angeles, where he has a studio built into his home, and another room that looks an awful lot like a studio where we talked to him from. Mike tells us about how to soundproof a room and hook up a condenser and interface and microphone. It is also a good idea to own a surge protector to protect yourself against all the surges even though Mike hasn’t had any of those. Open Mike Eagle used to be an elementary school teacher and he thinks Post Malone would make a better elementary school teacher than Drake would. Also, he tells us how to bother Guitar Center guys.

Honestly, we haven't had that many people on our show who have started entirely new religions. Most of the time, if someone wants to be religious, they simply follow one of the existing faiths that are out there in the world in great abundance already. But Marsha Warfield, who played Roz the bailiff on the classic sitcom Night Court and who appears in that show's newer reboot, has developed a religion that is all about empowering women. You might know Phoebe Judge as the host of the podcast Criminal, now celebrating its tenth year. Depending on where you live, you might also know her for her clamshell driveway because she has one of those. It’s an indication of how very much she loves clams and how much she loves clamming, which is the term for going out to the ocean and digging up clams. Certain movies would have you believe the dogs can play football but I think we all agree iguanas shouldn’t. They’re too delicate. We wanted to be ready for the Super Bowl so we called up NFL veteran punter Chris Kluwe for a lesson on all that goes into punting the ball to the other team. How much goes into punting? Turns out A LOT. Chris, who is a published author and game designer as well, guides us through each minute step of the punting process (and there are maybe, conservatively, a zillion steps) in enough detail to easily zonk you out to sleep. There was a brief period in the late 60s and early 70s when Jonathan Katz could walk into any table tennis club in the country and know which players, if any, could beat him. There weren’t many, because Katz was an elite player. Before becoming television’s Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist, he was the New York State Champion of table tennis. And if had been born in Stockholm, instead of New York, he probably would have been known as a professional table tennis player. Instead, he and his buddy David Mamet used to make extra cash by hustling unsuspecting marks in Chicago.

You may know Baratunde Thurston as the host of the PBS program America Outdoors or as the author of the best-selling book, How to Be Black. Linda Holmes is a best-selling author and one of the hosts of NPR's Pop Culture Happy Hour. But you know what an hour is that wasn't always happy? Melrose Place. Oh, it's true. Andy likes olives but finds the process of turning an olive from his own tree into an olive he can eat to be pretty challenging because it turns out it takes several steps. Once when he was a boy, his parents gave him some olives as a birthday present because they knew how much he liked olives and they thought it would be funny. Andy didn’t think it was all that funny but they gave him other gifts too so don’t worry. He thinks it would be hard to kill someone with a weed whacker but he’s willing to speculate on how that might happen.

The actor, writer, comedian, and bon vivant Michael Ian Black is an enthusiast of the word game Scrabble and, in particular, the very short two-letter words that can make all the difference in a competitive game.
