29 Sep 2024Six String Hayride Podcast Episode 47. The Other Ones: Helen, Anita, Carlene and Rosanne01:06:22

Six String Hayride Podcast Episode 47. The Other Ones: Helen, Anita, Carlene Carter, and Rosanne Cash. The Hayride has spent a lot of time on Johnny, June, and Mother Maybelle. Time for the Other Sisters and Daughters to get an episode. June Carter is middle Sister to Helen and Anita, two powerhouse musicians and singers who often get overlooked in the Carter / Cash Legacy. Helen was considered the best all around musician in the group and often handled all the vocal and harmony arrangements for her mom and sisters. Anita was often considered to be the best pure singer of the three sisters and had hit duets with Hank Snow and Waylon Jennings. Carlene Carter, June's daughter, had a great run through the 80's and 90's with her own records and a fine duet with Dave Edmunds. Rosanne Cash has had a four decades long career that puts her among the finest songwriters and singers of her generation. The extended Carter / Cash family just might be the finest gene pool in music over the last hundred years. All the usual Hayride Fun and The Rosanne Cash Potato Salad Recipe just in time for football season. All this and more on The Six String Hayride Podcast.

29 Aug 2024Six String Hayride Podcast Episode 45. The 1990's Episode01:56:03

Six String Hayride Podcast Episode 45. The 1990's Episode. In the 1990s, The divide between commercial country music (Garth Brooks, Billy Ray Cyrus, Alan Jackson) and more artistic music (Steve Earle, Emmylou Harris, John Prine and Johnny Cash) gets bigger and bigger. Money and chart position seems to guide the music business more than art and soul. George and Alan, two mainstream millionaires who work for one of the biggest record companies around, don't see the irony when they complain about the death of tradition in classic country. "Oh Brother Where Art Thou", as a film and a record, reminds us of the deep history and soul in classic country, folk, and gospel. We take a look at some of the hit records, bad records, and fun records from the 1990s. Johnny Cash begins a renaissance with his American Recordings Series. Trisha Yearwood has a fun cooking show that makes a great grilled cheese sandwich. We pay our respects to Gene Autry, Jerry Garcia, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Patsy Montana, Minnie Pearl, and Roger Miller. The June Carter cookbook gives us a delicious dessert, Chris makes another cocktail from the John Wayne drinking guide, and all the usual fun on Six String Hayride Classic Country Podcast.

Six String Hayride Classic Country Podcast, Episode 54. Pay It Forward In 2025

Farewell 2024. Chris and Jim tell the story of the Country Songs that we got hooked on as kids and ask the community to help share the music in 2025. Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Gene Autry, Mike Nesmith, and Hank Williams create the sounds that captivate two youngsters in the late 1960's and early 1970's. We take that original thrill of discovering music and commit to spreading the good word through the new year. Chris reminds me of a Willie Nelson show we recorded in 2003, Jim offers up a simple Ginger Irish Whiskey drink, and Chris finally notices that I am an actual ginger. Remember why you love music in the first place and share that vibe with your tribe in 2025. Happy New year. Live Long and Prosper.
