20 May 2021S2 Ep33: Lauren Nicholson is fuelling the Fire00:37:04
While waiting for the announcement of the next Opals team selection, we caught up with Sydney basketball hot shooter Lauren Nicholson.

Loz looks back at the challenging start to her first WNBL season with her hometown Sydney Uni Flames that ended with the 2017 WNBL Championship, and her pinch-me moment “some people go through and play 15 years of WNBL and never get a Championship” followed by three years in Adelaide that helped her develop her game.

There was never any doubt about her Opals contention having been to 3 grand finals in the last 5 seasons.

For the upcoming WNBL season she’s returning to the Townsville Fire and re-teaming with Coach Shannon Seebohm after experiencing her “funnest most successful year”.

The hub season fired up Loz who added to her strong defensive game an exciting offensive effort delivering a second highest in the league 18.9 points per game, only beaten by Liz Cambage.

A down to earth baller that has played around Australia to sharpen her game, at heart she is a family girl with big dreams to play amongst the best in the world and help female basketball players of the future, “if we can grow it now, and get the grassroots up and coming…”

02 Dec 2021S3 Ep51: Sherrie Calleia and Morgan Yaeger - Flames DP's bringing the D00:32:04
It’s always a treat having young up and coming players from a talent loaded WNBL join us on the show. In this episode we’re thrilled to be joined by Sydney Uni Flames Development Players Sherrie Calleia and Morgan Yaeger.

You can’t help but love their determination and they don’t hold back about their desire to be ‘pests’ to the opposition. They get candid on goals and challenges and share their ‘pinch yourself’ enthusiasm for Sydney's women’s and men’s hoops teams having the same ownership meaning more double headers for Sydney!

This is shaping up to be an exciting 'run and gun' line up and they're up for it naysayers and all, but there’s more. Morgan and Sherrie also talk about their heroes and what it means to them to be part of the WNBL.

Loads of laughs, and insight into one of the most talked about WNBL teams this season. Enjoy!

09 Dec 2021S3 Ep52: Michele Timms on FIBA Women's World Cup Qualifiers00:47:54
Legendary Opal Michele Timms jumps on so we can talk about the FIBA Women's World Cup Qualifiers. The new format means we have to compete even though, as host nation, we’re already in. We get into the pool groups, the teams and who’s a possibility of coming to Sydney.

But that’s not all - we get into the recently announced Opals 24 ‘fluid’ squad and what could influence the final team.

Always candid with unparalleled insight into the Opals legacy, amazing vision and an interesting viewpoint as we explore what's needed to rediscover that ‘relentless persistence’ that is the Opals spirit.

There’s many laughs along the way in this entertaining and thought provoking podcast. Enjoy!

16 Dec 2021S3 Ep53: A Life Basketball with Tom & Renae Garlepp00:45:44
When two stars collide it’s spectacular. Husband and Wife team Tom and Renae Garlepp are phenomenal talents in their own right making an impact on the coaching stage.

Just as spectacular was this year's U20’s Nationals when they faced off as opponents coaching the Blue and White NSW Teams.

Juggling family life and coaching high stakes hoops with state pride on the line gets you some pretty special moments, but most valuable is their insight into developing hoops talent in schools at the age when many girls are opting out or switching codes.

It’s a wonderful slice of their basketball life, and we're so grateful they shared it with us.

Non-stop laughs of course but don’t be fooled - these two are deadly competitive.

Enjoy!

23 Dec 2021S3 Ep54: Cayla George All the things she said01:13:41
She’s the ultimate big… fierce, loyal to her team-mates and never stepping back from a challenge.

Cayla George made an impact at this years Tokyo2020 Olympics for the Opals - but by sharing her truth she lets us peek into how the squad felt through the campaign and afterwards.

Cayla showed the kind of leadership needed by her decisive action when team mates Tiffany and Ezi were confronted by racial intolerance. She calls it out and she calls for action because nothing less will do.

All eyes are on the Melbourne Boomers with big changes in the team this could be a special season.

Settle back and get comfortable it’s a big episode as we wrap up the year and get ready for some laughs as well!

Enjoy!
