01 Jan 2024Episode 01 - Homestead Never Did I Ever01:08:03

On today's episode we're sharing stories of "never did I ever." Things we never anticipated dealing with as part of our homestead journeys.

We all have expectations going into homesteading. We dream of the idyllic gardens and sweet moments with our farm critters. We plan as much as we can, and we research worst-case scenarios to try our best to be ready for anything. But even with the best plans in place, there's always room for the unexpected. Which is exactly what we talk about in today's episode.

At the end, we also chat about the names, or not names, of our critters. We'd love to hear if you name all or some of your critters, so send us an email or a DM!

23 Sep 2024Episode 39 - What Is Regenerative Homesteading?00:51:43

This week, we're delving into regenerative agriculture, homesteading, and home gardening - what is it, what does it look like, and why is it a big deal? Regenerative agriculture is an increasingly popular response to the negative side effects of our current conventional agricultural system. Topsoil is one of our most valuable resources, and we're losing it faster than we can rebuild it with conventional systems. That's where regenerative practices come in: lower impact methods of planting and harvesting, focusing on rebuilding topsoil, and adding biodiversity back to our systems. From large scale farming to small home gardens, there are so many ways to implement regenerative practices and build healthy, resilient spaces. 08 Jan 2024Episode 02 - What IS Homesteading?01:00:06

In today's episode we're discussing "What IS Homesteading?" We look up a formal definition, chat about our personal feelings of this definition, and then discuss our own ideas of how we define homesteading for ourselves. We squash some gatekeeping, and talk about how gatekeeping can be found in many areas of life, not just homesteading.

We also chat about different ways you can be a homesteader, even without having land. There are many homesteading activities that don't require land or a garden! It's important to us to create a community of inclusivity. Anyone can be a homesteader, and we're glad you're here to chat about homesteading with us!

15 Jan 2024Episode 03 - What We Wish We Knew01:01:52

In today's episode, we're chatting about things we wish we knew before we started homesteading...and, wow, there are a lot! We hope this discussion can help other new homesteaders or "homesteaders-in-training" to avoid some of the oopsies, burnout, and confusion we've experienced while embracing this lifestyle. But it's not all bad stuff. We also talk about some of the unexpected positive aspects of this lifestyle we've had the joy of experiencing. We're curious if any of the topics we brought up in this episode surprised you - or if you've got your own things you wish you'd known, let us know! Send us an email or a DM on Instagram!
