You can build a classroom of readers by sharing chapter book read alouds in your 1st grade classroom. Today we are looking at my Top Ten list of favorite read alouds that are recommended often by teachers for teachers. Tune in and discover a new read aloud to share with your class or if you're tried and true favorites were mentioned. Please make sure to read any read aloud yourself before reading it to your class. Writing, and especially the 5 steps in the writing process, is an essential skill that every student needs to master. As primary teachers we play a crucial part in helping our students develop their writing abilities. I’ve found that when students have a blueprint for success they are much more likely to be focused during writing time. One major way I provide a blueprint is following the writing process throughout our lessons during a writing unit.

Although the Science of Reading can be traced back as far as the 1800s it is recently gaining in popularity in current educational practices. It makes sense that we may wonder why sight words are important or if they conflict with these “new” practices.
