Plus, I’m sharing which AI tools I like and why, but also why they aren’t reliable for replacing human editing and copywriting yet.

18 Sep 2023132: If You Build It, They Won’t Come (Unless You Have a Visibility Plan)00:24:57

Send us a Text Message.

“If you build it, they will come” is such outdated advice. It just doesn’t work for podcasts or online businesses anymore. The podcasting landscape has changed so much over recent years and we have to change along with it. People won’t listen to your podcast if they don’t know it exists. So, how can we let people know our podcast is out there? We have to get visible!

In today’s episode, I’m sharing why you need to incorporate a visibility strategy into your overall podcast growth plan. I’ll share what visibility is and how it differs from marketing, some actionable tips you can use to raise the visibility of your podcast, and more. I know it’s scary to get out from behind the mic, but if I can do it, you can do it, too.

Are you ready to build your podcast strategy, simplify your marketing, and finally make your podcast work for you? Join the Strategic Podcast Academy, my signature group program that’ll support you with monthly training, resources, and an amazing community!

[10:49] Some strategies you can use to be more visible

10 Apr 2023109: Don’t Let Your Download Numbers Hold You Back00:18:07

Send us a Text Message.

“I wish my download numbers were higher.” It’s a sentiment we keep hearing over and over from clients at Wild Home Podcasting. And honestly, who doesn’t? But download numbers don’t tell the whole story about whether or not your podcast is successful, and the energy we spend focusing on that one single metric is often better spent elsewhere.

In today’s episode, I’m laying out why download numbers are a little bit of a vanity metric especially for small and online business podcasters, why focusing on downloads can distract you from the important work you should do to make your podcast more impactful for your business, and how to maximize the return you get from the downloads you have currently.

What’s in this episode:

[02:24] Why podcasters get so hung up on download numbers… and why that might be distracting you from more important questions around your podcast

[04:02] Why the podcast landscape is different than it used to be, and so is the way we look at and interpret download numbers

[05:47] Why the “if you build it, they will come” mentality doesn’t work anymore

[09:19] How we should be spending more time working on the parts of podcasting we can control first–and worrying about download numbers second

[12:24] Two things I want you to think about when you look at your download numbers

30 Jan 2023099: Creating Content That’s More Impactful and Less Overwhelming with Gracia Ostendorf00:35:52

Send us a Text Message.

If you’re like me, trying to plan and create content on social media that feels unique and impactful day after day can be so overwhelming. Where do you start? What trends should you follow? What are you even supposed to talk about?

In today’s episode, Gracia Ostendorf is here to break down her best tips for content creation and simplify the process for us. Gracia reminds us –once again– that social media and content creation isn’t about getting tons of views or downloads, but to make connections that turn listeners into clients. And the best way to make connections is about thinking through what your audience needs and showing them how you can help in a real and authentic way.

If you’ve been feeling burnout and overwhelmed by how to market your business or podcast on social media, you’re going to love this episode.

What’s in this episode:

[03:55] Why content creation can feel so difficult for online business owners

[05:07] How taking an “outside” perspective can make the content creation process easier

[10:19] Why focusing on the message (not reach, downloads, or other “numbers”) is how Gracia reaches –and then books– clients

[14:06] Gracia’s favorite types of content for creating connection with her audience

[22:01] Gracia’s definition for educational content and her three stages for the education-to-sales process

[26:52] Why you’re providing a service by using your content to educate your audience about the solutions your business can offer

[31:16] Why you need to start posting right now, so you can learn, grow, and become more confident and adjust along the way

You have a great sales page, excellent copy, good reviews, and you’ve got your podcast going with a solid listener base… but those listeners aren’t turning into customers. In today’s episode, I’m walking you through four common reasons that your podcast might not be turning listeners into customers–and ways you can fix those problems. Some solutions are quick and easy, and some will require a bigger perspective shift in the way you make your content. But rethinking your podcast strategy can have huge payoffs in the long run, and we’re here to help you get there!

None of us want to be on the content creation hamster wheel. In this episode, I am focused on the Hows and Whys of simplifying marketing for your podcast. We focus on what issues you’re facing and how to strategize to use that pain point as a catalyst, instead of a road block.

What’s in this episode:

[00:02:43] What the first step to simplifying your marketing for your podcast looks like
[00:03:21] How to think about your podcast’s marketing and your sales calendar
[00:04:31] How to multiply content creation while decreasing effort
[00:08:05] How podcasting can help you gain confidence and really help you find your voice

Send us a Text Message.

When you’re in the beginning stages of launching a podcast, especially a DIY launch, done is better than perfect, right? If you haven’t updated your podcast since that launch, it’s probably time to run a little audit and make sure that all of your podcast materials are still supporting the current goals of your business. So in today’s episode, I’m walking you through the areas to look at when doing a self-audit for your podcast, why this process can be a growth opportunity for your show and your business, and the service we offer if you feel you need a little extra help with this process.

 What’s in this episode:

The idea of making money with your podcast is one of the prime reasons you’re producing a podcast. This, of course, begs the question: should I get sponsors on my show? Why not make money in addition to the work you’re already putting in? Is there a downside?

In this episode, I’m explaining why it’s better not to have sponsors on your podcast! (Hint: it takes a lot of clicks to profit.) Yes, turn down that sponsorship for mattresses! By focusing on your own brand and promoting your own materials, you’re able to make that money for yourself rather than sending your listeners to someone else!

[00:02:08] Why you should be marketing your own programs and services on your podcast

[00:06:36] Why sponsors are not going to solve all of our (podcast) problems

All of that is important and necessary for your podcast, but, the thing is, if you actually want your podcast to work effectively for you and your business, there are some other questions you need to answer before your launch.

In today’s episode, I’m going to walk you through a few of those big things you need to consider, from how to determine the goal of your podcast (specifically, not generally), how you’re going to use your podcast in your overall marketing plan, and why you need to find a rhythm for your podcast so you can stay consistent.

15 Sep 2022083: What It Means to Be Wildly Authentic in Your Podcast00:18:38

Send us a Text Message.

There’s a false perception that a podcast has to be corporate and perfectly polished, with radio voices and professional announcements. It can feel intimidating for someone wanting to start a podcast for their business. Thankfully, this perception is changing. You don’t need fancy voice overs or ads or any of that—you just need to show up exactly as you are.

In today’s episode, I’m talking about what it means to be wildly authentic and how it helps you build your business and connect with your audience. You don’t have to pretend to be someone else to get listeners. That only leads to burn out while you try to keep up with the image you’ve created.

Your listeners want to hear what you have to say. They want to get to know you. You’ll feel better about your messaging and the clients you attract if you just be yourself. It may sound easier said than done, but that’s why the team at Wild Home Podcasting is here to help you create a podcast you can be proud of—in all its wildly authentic glory.

What’s in this episode:

  • How podcasting is changing for the better
  • Why it’s important to be authentic as a podcaster promoting your business
  • Connecting with your listeners by being yourself
  • How we encourage authenticity with our clients
  • How a podcast can help you clarify your business messaging
  • The burnout that comes with trying to be someone you’re not

I’m tackling a topic I’ve been hesitant to approach… artificial intelligence (AI)! As an artist, I know the importance of supporting art and their creators, but I also understand the need to adopt new tools as industries change and grow.

So in today’s episode, I’m sharing the ways I’ve started experimenting with AI and chatGPT with my own podcast while maintaining my own authentic voice, as well as a few thoughts to consider when adding AI into your own podcast workflow. I’m also discussing a recently published article that highlights the important topic of copyright when it comes to AI. You’re not going to want to miss this episode!

13 Oct 2020028: Brainstorming Content and Staying Consistent00:17:28

Before my maternity leave, I did a survey and I was very surprised at what people said they struggle with the most: knowing what to talk about!

On today’s episode, I’m sharing how I brainstorm content and where I got most of my ideas from for season 2. I also talk about why it’s so important to be in tune with what you audience is talking about and the questions they are asking.

Beyond content, having a system is super important, but none of that matters if you are not consistent. I know I say it a lot, but I’m saying it again in this episode! Listen in and be sure to grab my free Trello board.
