25 Sep 2018EP90 - Age Play with Dr. Rhoda Lipscomb. 00:36:29

Welcome to episode 90 of the Sexology Podcast, today I’m delighted to be joined by Dr. Rhoda Lipscomb who speaks to me about what adult age play entails, how shame and embarrassment surround this issue and how a lack of nurturing at a young age could play into this issue.

Dr. Rhoda Lipscomb has been counseling individuals and couples in the area of human sexuality for over 25 years. She received her PhD in clinical sexology from the American Academy of Clinical Sexologists in Orlando, FL.

She is an AASECT certified sex therapist in private practice specializing in the alternative sexuality communities, such as open relationships, ABDL, GLBT, BDSM, kink and fetishes. She wrote her doctoral dissertation on the mental health experience of ABDL individuals, specializes in therapy for this community and speaks on the subject to help promote better understanding for individuals and their families.

Her approach to therapy is helping people to understand, accept and appreciate their sexuality with all the wonderful unique flavors that come with it. Shame, embarrassment, guilt and fear are poisonous to healthy sexual expression so letting go of old, irrational and impractical belief patterns can pave the way for a new and exciting beginning.

14 Feb 2023EP321 - How To Experience Your First Breath Orgasm with Anya Laeta00:30:22

Welcome to episode 321 of the Sexology Podcast! Today I am delighted to be speaking with Anya Laeta. In this episode, we discuss the different ways people can experience an orgasm, understanding orgasmic breathing and we also hear a sample of a breathing exercise from Anya.

Given that sex was a shameful and taboo topic in her culture, it is miraculous that her attitude toward sex was always one of curiosity and experimentation. Despite being open-minded and comfortable with sex, all her relationships would start lacking passion and excitement after about a year or so. Anya would conclude that she “fell out of love” and looked for a new relationship. Only to repeat this pattern all over 6-12 months later.

Not being able to have a sustainable, fulfilling sex life made her feel like a failure in relationships. It is this challenge that ultimately led her to study human sexuality, Tantra, and relationship psychology.

Understanding how her erotic mind, desire, arousal, sexual polarity, and anatomy work empowers Anya to create and re-create excitement, passion, and sexual satisfaction every day.

She would be lying if she said it’s easy. Yet, having a roadmap to do it made it possible for Anya to have a happy and sexy long-term relationship that she was dreaming about.

Today Anya is honored to help you meet your erotic potential and relationship needs.

In this episode, you will hear:

·      Looking at the different ways people can experience an orgasm

·      Analyzing emotional v genital-based orgasms

·      Looking at the way your brain wires your thinking of orgasms

·      Understanding the concept of embodiment

·      What is orgasmic breathing?

·      Can anyone practice orgasmic breathing?

·      How you can learn to deepen your breath to enhance your sexual experience

·      A sample of a breathing exercise from Anya

·      Using music to enrich your breathing exercises

·      The different ways vulva and penis owners can benefit from these exercises

20 Apr 2021EP226 - Why Good Sex Matters with Dr. Nan Wise00:35:13

Welcome to episode 226 of the Sexology Podcast! Today I'm delighted to welcome Dr. Nan Wise to the podcast. In this episode, Dr. Nan talks to me about her book, Why Good Sex Matters, how you can learn to access your pleasure and analyzing the difference between sexual stimulation and satisfaction.

Dr. Nan Wise is a certified sex therapist, certified relationship specialist, neuroscience researcher, and author of Why Good Sex Matters: Understanding the Neuroscience of Pleasure for a Smarter, Happier, and More Purpose-Filled Life. Driven by the desire to understand how the brain operates to create moods and behaviors, she returned to academia and completed her Ph.D. in 2014. Her dissertation work, Genital stimulation, imagery, and orgasm in women: an fMRI analysis, resulted in three published studies. Her research has addressed gaps in the scientific literature regarding the neural basis of human sexuality, and as a result, garnered international attention.

Dr. Nan's clinical approach addresses how the brain/body/mind operates, highlighting the key role that our evolutionarily wired-in, core, embodied emotions play in our physical and mental well-being. Imbalances in these core emotional systems contribute to anxiety, depression, stress-related disorders, and sexual dysfunction--all of which can impair our ability to experience pleasures- in and out of the bedroom.  This inability to experience satisfying pleasures-- the state of "anhedonia"- - contributes to what she has called the pleasure crisis, evidenced by soaring epidemics of mood disorders, stress-related illnesses, and a widespread sexual recession.  As Dr. Nan teaches, the ability to experience healthy pleasures--those that feel good and are good for us-- is not a luxury, but a necessity for overall well-being.

Dr. Nan has discussed the pleasure crisis on  The Today Show as well as contributed her expert opinion to outlets such as The BBC, National Geographic, The Atlantic, Time, Women’s Health, The Washington Post, HuffPost, Well + Good, Romper, Bustle, and has a regular column in Glamour, Ask Dr. Nan in which she addresses sexual health and relationship topics. She lives in West Orange, NJ.

In this episode, you will hear:

  • How Dr. Nan became interested in this field to write the book
  • Analyzing Anhedonia - The inability to feel pleasure
  • Learning to access your pleasure
  • Why your brain is your ally when improving your sexual pleasure
  • Looking at the difference between accessing pleasure and sexual pleasure
  • Overcoming low desire
  • Why some people are ambivalent towards pleasure
  • Fulfilling your sexual potential
  • The difference between stimulation and satisfaction

06 Jun 2023EP337 - Exploring Erotic Role-Playing: Enhancing Intimacy & Adventure in Relationships00:31:40

Welcome to episode 337 of Sexology Podcast! Today I am delighted to welcome Katie Runyan to the podcast. In this episode, we discuss role play and its benefits for enhancing sexual intimacy in relationships, using role play on date nights and the best way to introduce roleplay to your partner.

Katie Runyan is a co-founder of FaithfulFling and lives in KCMO with her husband Jon and four teenage children. She loves donuts, napping, writing and helping relationships all around the world create a spark in the bedroom by having a healthy, passionate and thriving sex life!

The idea for Faithful Fling came as a result of their own role-playing over the years. They recognized that it had increased their connection, improved their sex life, and brought back some novelty to their relationship. It gave them an avenue to improve sensitive and intimate communication as well. They figured if it worked for them, it could work for any committed relationship that was willing to give it a try. They envisioned a scenario where they would do all of the work and their customers would have all of the fun.

They could add to the value by building in lots of fun and surprises that would keep everyone interested and excited to see what would happen next. They loved the idea and nothing else on the market provided the same level of excitement, surprises, and level of detail as what they wanted to provide, so they finally took the leap and launched FaithfulFling.com in February of 2022. They are so proud to help other marriages improve their sex life, put a spark back between the sheets, and put some effort into their marriage again.

They hope you’ll join and see what role-playing with Faithful Fling can do for your marriage!

In this episode, you will hear:

  • How role play and its benefits can enhance sexual intimacy in relationships.
  • Using the erotic mind with a partner to allow for vulnerability and communication.
  • Looking at popular role play scenarios include naughty nurse and patient.
  • How role play adds novelty and playfulness to date nights.
  • Why curiosity instead of defensiveness can lead to better results.
  • Committing to the role to make roleplay more immersive and realistic.

20 Jun 2023EP339 - Expert Insights on Communicating About Intimacy, Kinks, and Fetishes00:30:51

Welcome to episode 339 of Sexology Podcast! Today I am delighted to welcome Stephanie Ganowski the podcast. In this episode, we discuss how to have conversations about boundaries and communicating sexual desires in a relationship.

Stephanie Ganowski is a Clinical Sexologist & Sex Coach for men, living in NYC. Her mission is to help men replace their sex pressures with sex pleasures.

Growing up, Steph was severely introverted and shy. She felt very challenged when it came to making friends and feeling confident in herself. She constantly questioned herself and her actions, while remaining hyper curious about those around her. Due to her low self-esteem, she allowed people into her life who “matched” the way she treated herself. Afterall, it felt “right” and comfortable. This included the men she attracted romantically.

Eventually, the prolonged mistreatment from men (and herself) was jolted by 5 incredibly caring, supportive, hilarious guys, she randomly befriended on Instagram, during a hard time. This was a huge wakeup call for Steph. It made her realize that not all men were “assholes” like she had thought. It was her mindset and lack of social skills that put her in the place she had been in.

“But what about these “asshole” guys from her past experiences? What’s going on with them? They must have pain too…” This curiosity led her to want to understand her relationship with men more closely and understand men in general. Step one for Steph, was to start working with men, 1:1, gain their trust, reach their vulnerable side and find a way to help them. Through understanding men and helping them heal and see progress in their lives, Steph would also learn to how to heal and bring people together. Her goal is to eventually get to the place where she can also help women who feel the same way about men, as she once did.

In this episode, you will hear:

  • How communicating about sex and intimacy can lead to trust, passion, and desire.
  • The best time to bring up a fetish or kink to a new partner
  • How to prepare for communicating about vulnerable topics
  • Why communication with a partner should focus on emotions and understanding
  • Open-ended questions should provide a space for exploration without immediate implementation.
  • How anal sex requires warming up with foreplay, lube, and a slow progression
  • Why it's important to take care of partners' emotions and not take things personally
  • How going to a dominatrix with a partner can be a helpful alternative to hands-on participation
