02 May 2023 | Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - Scores and Sequel Pitches! | 01:15:29
The meeting of minds is back! This week ahead of the release of the third (and final) of the trilogy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Andy is hosting, while the gang review and pitch sequels for the 2017 sci-fi superhero comedy family drama Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, directed once again by James Gunn, and starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Sylvester Stallone, and Kurt Russell. Expect all of the sequels to be subtitled Volume 3 because surely it would be pure madness for it to be anything otherwise, a surprising amount of similarities between a couple of the pitches, lots of agonising over how to make Adam Warlock beatable, and Tazerface's brother, Lazerface! 24 Dec 2021 | Home Sweet Home Alone (2021) - Review and Sequel Pitches! With Alex Gilston! | 01:22:02
Happy Holidays! Well here we are with the final episode of Sequel Pitch for 2021! And as it's dropping on Christmas Eve, we really thought that we should get something properly festive in. A real holiday classic. One that everyone can enjoy. Then we decided against that and did Home Sweet Home Alone (2021), Disney+'s newest entry into the long running kid's classic series. But it's not all bad, because at least we had Alex Gilston (@PresenterAlex) back with us to see off 2021 in style. You can expect some really scathing reviews of this movie (really sorry about that), lots of inventive ideas for traps (so maybe don't let your kids listen to this episode... maybe don't let them listen anyway, we use a lot of bad language), and a LOT OF FUN! Also, stick around at the end of the episode for an extra special Christmas present! You're Welcome! 23 Feb 2024 | You didn't think you'd get rid of us that easily, did you? | 00:00:54
We're coming back! You thought you were done with us, didn't you? ADMIT IT! To be fair, we did say that we would come back if we could, although none of us expected it to be this soon. We don't have a set date, it won't be on any sort of regular schedule, and there are going to be some changes to the format, BUT there will be good and terrible movies, lots of arguing between us four, and plenty of pitching ideas for sequels. Which you'd hope there would be, as we're not changing the name. If you've stayed subscribed and have come across this in your feed then thank you so much for sticking with us. If you're a new listener that's just seen that we ended the show and have been immediately thrown back into it, we hope you enjoyed that tiny moment of confusion. SO EXCITED! In Time, directed by Andrew Niccol and starring Amanda Seyfried, Justin Timberlake, Alex Pettyfer and man of the moment over the summer, Cillian Murphy. 14 Oct 2022 | Halloween Kills (2021) - Reviews and Sequel Pitches, with special guest Kat Hughes! | 01:16:01
The meeting of minds is back! This week, Ross is hosting his own head to head episode against Andy, with guest judging duties from returning horror maestro Kat Hughes! And of course, it wouldn't be a halloween month episode with doing an episode on HALLOWEEN! And seeing as Halloween Ends is out on the day of release, we thought it would be rude not to be pitching our own versions, so we've reviewed and are pitching our sequels to the 2021 horror sequelboot sequel to 2018's Halloween, Halloween Kills! Directed by David Gordon Green and written by Green along with, Danny McBride, Paul Brad Logan, and Chris Bernier. And of course, starring the absolute legendary scream queen herself, Jamie Lee Curtis. Expect just... insanity. Really. It's mad. So much death. Crikey. I have been writing about movies for the last eight years, mainly writing for the entertainment website THN. Although happy to cover a range of projects and genres my heart lies with the horror genre, with FrightFest being a highlight of her calendar year. Growing up film was an integral part of my life, and as a child, I watched Labyrinth, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, The Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgement Day and Aliens on repeat. This passion for movies led me to study Media Production at The University of Lincoln where I produced several short films on very limited student budgets. My career has seen me transition from Blockbusters and Cineworld, to time working for both Lionsgate and eOne. Having had a child in 2018, I am now committed to focusing on writing full-time. Links! 26 Nov 2021 | Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) - Review and Sequel Pitches! With Empire Magazine's Jordan King | 01:38:47
So we're not sure if you're aware but there's a new Spider-Man movie coming out in a couple of weeks. Some people might have watched the trailer, apparently? We kid; here at Sequel Pitch we are very excited to see the continuing adventures of Tom Holland's Peter Parker, so we decided to swing into action with an episode so big it could fit the entire Sinister Six, and review the previous outing, Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), Directed by Jon Watts, and starring Tom Holland, Jake Gyllenhaal, Zendaya, and many more. You can expect discussion of Jake Gyllenhaal's frankly outrageous levels of charisma, a bananas amount of characters that aren't Spider-Man being brought into our pitches, and some artful footwork trying not to include things that are in the existing trailers for the new movie! How well do we do? Let us know! If you're not already, please consider subscribing on your podcast app of choice so that you get our episodes as soon as they land. 16 Sep 2022 | The Predator (2018) - Reviews and Sequel Pitches! | 01:07:36
The meeting of minds is back! This week, Matt is hosting, while Drew and Andy review and pitch sequels for the 2018 Action Sci-Fi franchiser The Predator, directed by Shane Black and starring Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, Jacob Tremblay, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Munn, Thomas Jane, Alfie Allen and Sterling K. Brown. You might have been expecting an episode on Prey, but NO! We're going to go ahead and do the movie that very few people liked rather than the new one that's getting loads of praise, because trying to follow a frustrating movie is WAY more fun than following a good one! Also... Prey sequels are really hard, so we gave up on that Expect a surprising amount of apology for liking several aspects of this movie, lots of off world shenanigans in the sequel pitches, and unfortunately some connection issues from the host, so apologies if some of this comes off a little disjointed! 31 Oct 2023 | A very special and slightly sad announcement | 00:03:41
Hi everyone! We have an announcement to make - our live show in London on November 6th is going to be the final episode of Sequel Pitch. It's a decision that we've made for all of our mental well-beings; we have so much fun recording the show, but finding the time to watch the movies, come up with the pitches, record, edit etc, when we've all got varying amounts of pressure around jobs, children and mental health issues to deal with, we all want to put the show to bed while we're still enjoying it. This podcast is something we're all extremely proud of. We love the idea, we've built a load of fantastic friendships in the movie critic and podcasting industries, let alone how much it's strengthened our own, we've had some dream guests we wouldn't have expected in our wildest dreams, AND we've had the immense privilege of knowing (because people have told us this, honest!) That we've made something that brings them joy. So if you've listened to us, told someone else to, supported us, or frankly just tolerated us, we are incredibly grateful. Thank you so much. And you never know, this might not be the end! There might be a film that we just can't bear not to do an episode on, or we might open the feed up for other people to come on and take it over. We might all just restart it ourselves in a year or two when we're not having such a rough time existing as elder millennials under late stage capitalism and a tory government! So if our RSS feed or format are of interest to you, get in touch, we'll be hanging on to our socials :) So that's us - if you can make it to London on the 6th we are hoping that it can be a big lovely send of, and celebration of the friends we've made along the way. Take care of yourselves, we love you The Sequel Pitch Boys Twitter: @SequelPitch Instagram: sequelpitchpodcast Facebook: Sequel Pitch As always, our eternal thanks to Captivate for providing our hosting for the show. 28 Feb 2023 | SPecial Announcement! We're taking a bit of a break | 00:02:48
Hi everyone! We're putting this out on the feed for any of you that might miss it on social media. So, we’ve been going on for over 2 years, 61 mainline episodes and a bunch of bonus episodes too, and we have loved every minute of it. We’ve had some great fun arguing and coming up with some crazy pitches from Oompa loompas to Dominic Toretto punching asteroids heading to earth. After the new year we planned to do a soft reboot of the show to focus on the competition element and to shorten our review section and give our patrons something special to listen to. We're very pleased with the shape of things, but it's not all been plain sailing over here. A peak behind the curtain here pitch pals. We do this podcast for fun now of course we have a patreon and we are hugely grateful to anyone who subscribes, but we all have boring day jobs and other commitments that we have to balance as well. Something we have been overlooking is our own mental health. We have been pushing on sometimes ignoring the warning signs in our own bodies and minds. We can sometimes overlook men's mental health, and we four definitely aren't immune to that. But it has got to a point in which we need to listen. So after listening, we have made the call to put Sequel Pitch on hold, just for a couple of months. We love our show, and we love what we do, so we are going to rest, recharge, and come back better than ever before! It also gives us this precious time to spend with family, but also work on the podcast like we had wanted to! We love you and all your support you give the podcast. As always, if you know someone you think would have fun with the show we've got over 60 episodes for everyone to listen to! Also, we're still going to put out any SPoilercast we can get off the ground in the meantime, AND we will be back with a very special episode on April 18th with the return of Videogame director Mike Bithell (who is currently hard at work on Tron Identity for Disney, oooooooo), pitching our sequels to the 1993 Mario Brothers movie! So for now it’s goodbye, but we'll be back on April 18th
07 Jan 2022 | WatchAlong: Con Air (1997) | 01:51:23
Special Bonus Episode Alert! We're trying to do more of this extra content for you lovely listeners out there, and when we all got together for the weekend to see Spider-Man: No Way Home, we took the opportunity to all watch what was the next movie we were going to do an episode on. That movie was Con Air. And we were so intrigued about what the experience would be like, that we thought some of you might enjoy it too, so we recorded the whole thing! That's right, if you want something like a director's commentary, but all recorded by four idiots around one microphone in and echo-y living room while a dog climbs all over them, boy howdy do we have the podcast for you. So load up Con Air on your VHS/DVD/Blu-Ray/Disney+ Streaming device, and get ready to press play when we tell you to, and you can see what we thought of this in real time. Let us know what you think of this episode, would you like us to do more of these? We had great fun doing it so we hope that we can! If you're not already, please consider subscribing on your podcast app of choice so that you get our episodes as soon as they land. Leave us a lovely review if we think we deserve it so that new people can see what others think. Please tell your friends about us if you think they might enjoy the show! We'd love to build a community around this thing, and word of mouth is the best way to go about it!
