It's always special when I have a guest who is just as passionate about capturing trips with their camera while also fishing big baits. It's a relationship many don’t dive into much, but when I have the chance to speak with someone who geeks out over media as much as I do, I take full advantage of the episode. It seems like the next big thing in the swimbait scene is starting to hatch. Snook fishing—and saltwater or brackish water swimbait fishing in general—has been taking off over the past 3-4 years. All I can say is wow, I really took advantage of this bass and buzzed and got buzzed hardcore lmao. It was nice to sit down and talk with a fellow Michigan swimbait dude, even if we fish almost completely opposite sides of the state, we were still able to compare bites from this year and the few years we've been doing. Also for the first time in SNT history, we had a few minutes of recording inside a gas station while Jake was snagging another beer, I'm glad the gas station dude was able to join in.

Ever wonder what it's like to be a swimbait enthusiast outside the US? To maybe not have bass to target so you target the apex predator pike? Or maybe not having access to an endless amount of garage-built baits? Well in this episode Lasse scratches the surface on all these challenges of being a swimbaiter in Germany. Having access to production baits that are mainly shipped from Japan. It's wild to think about only having the "basic baits" ( we as US guys often think of the production baits as basic while guys in other countries love them and fish them over handmade stuff.) It's crazy to think how good we have it here in the US and how easy it is to get our hands on baits. Even if you think XYZ bait is impossible to get we know it's in our country and a chance to buy one. So next time you miss a drop or miss someone selling it just remember, at least you get the chance to see those baits go up and have a chance and get them.

Dylan is a SoCal saltwater/freshwater swimbait guy. While still being a little newer to the swimbait thing he's put in some serious time into it and it's shown. While most of us guys only fish our crazy expensive baits in fresh water, Dylan talks about a small niche group of guys who venture into the salty side of things for saltwater bass. He explains how they slow roll yunique soft baits over eel grass and wait for that hard thud of a fish hitting the bait. But while he enjoys that he says it is hard to beat catching good green fish also. Some of the stories he tells make me realize southern strain and northern strain along with a couple of thousand miles may not make all of our fish that different. They are all intrigued with our baits, it's more about if they are aggressive enough to tango with a bait half their size or bigger sometimes.

To start off this show note all I can say is you must listen to this episode uninterrupted for the first 25-30 ish minutes. Passang's story is unlike anything you've heard on the show and I think it's probably the coolest story we will ever hear on Scales N Tales. good, now that the important part of this is out of the way I can elaborate on the rest of this episode lol. In the industry, there aren’t many names as well known as Mike Bucca, or Bullshad Swimbaits for that matter. I was lucky enough to sit down with Mike and discuss the beginnings of Bullshad and what it was like going into bait building full-time before the scene was developed like it is today.

Ever wondered what it's like to live a free soul, nomad lifestyle? The only worry is where you'll be fishing next? Marshall has been doing that for close to two years now. We had to touch on what it was like for Marshall when he first started this journey, and how far he has come. While it hasn't always been easy he has pushed through and still enjoying it every day. Of course, we talked about swimbaiting and how Marshall fishes Austin with swims, but we also dive into how he slows down and fishes finesse for super pressured fish. Marshall is a 1 of 1 guy in our small fishing niche, a guy who is waking up every morning excited to see what the days hold. He isn't held down by a 9-5. He gets to do what he loves and works occasionally when needed. I think we all need to take a page out of Marshall's book and realize it's okay to step off the path of life sometimes. Kevin Rogers from the NPFL joined us to talk all things swimbaits. He’s got a wall of baits that would put most of us to shame. We dove into how he incorporates big baits into his tournament game—and how they’ve started to overly dictate his approach. I asked him about his process for practicing ahead of events and how throwing big baits helps him locate fish on any lake in the country. He also shared some insight on the outlawing of forward-facing sonar (FFS) in the NPFL and how that move seems to have brought a bigger crowd to the professional trail.
