09 May 2016Ep 100: Batman The Animated Series part 201:36:05
It's our 100th episode and part 2 of our discussion about Batman The Animated Series.  We've been doing the show for two years and so thankful that we've gotten this far with the help of so many amazing friends.  This week we get into the villains that challenge and ultimately make Batman such an incredible crime fighter and detective.  We're joined by some of our friends as they share their memories from the show.  Enjoy our 100th episode!  Cheers!
16 May 2016Ep 101: B-Sides part 100:24:26
Wouldn't you know it!  We hit a milestone and then get lazy.  Instead of talking cartoons this week, we're releasing some b-sides for you.  What are SMC b-sides you ask?  It's all the jokes and trash that happens BEFORE the show.  It's Sean and Dave acting silly and irreverent!  This week, we have a 20 minute conversation about Parappa the rapper!  When that new mixtape gonna drop?!  No clue.  *fingers crossed*
23 May 2016Ep 102: B-Sides part 200:16:47
It's always a joy when our friends come on the show, especially Evan Valentine because he's just so damn a-dork-able.  Sean is constantly in awe of Evan and his knowledge of comic books.  Dave talks about the idea of a skeleton planet after Goku summons up all of earth's life force.  Enjoy part 2 of B-Sides and enjoy our revelry since this was recorded on St. Patrick's day and Sean didn't realize that it was a holiday.  He had a good reason (he's a dum dum).
30 May 2016Ep 103: B-Sides part 300:14:57
Three weeks of B-Sides!  This is getting crazy.  Interested in hearing Sean and Dave do terrible Boston accents?  Discuss Marky Marky on the set of Transformers?  What about Chris Pratt's abs in Jurassic World?  It's all on this B-Side so enjoy!  *Sponsored by Monster Energy drinks and the Boston Oscars*
06 Jun 2016Ep 104: B-Sides part 400:09:14
It's our final edition of our B-sides!  Sean and Dave are joined by Melanie Harker so we can sing the theme song for Bakugan battle brawlers, talk a little trash on our friends podcast called Law and Order: SVU (special viewing unit), and Dave briefly talks about during themes songs in dirge funeral marches.  Enjoy our final B-sides episode and we'll be back next week with all new episodes that will probably be about a bunch of lions that form together into a robot.  Yup, we're getting into Voltron for the month of June, so get ready to be disappointed. **GoBeast Lion Robot Frown**
13 Jun 2016Ep 105: Voltron: Defender of the Universe01:03:46
We're back!  And like a couple of mecha lions forming a giant fight robot, we are ready to defend the universe from the weirdest cartoons around.  Yes, this week we are finally getting into Voltron.  In fact, we are getting into Voltron ALL MONTH LONG.  Does Sean go crazy from bad voice acting?  You betcha.  Does Dave go crazy when the colors of the lions don't match up with the pilots?  You betcha.   In our excitement about the Netflix original series Voltron Legendary Defender, we're watching Voltron shows for the entire month of June.  Check out the 80's American version that brought the franchise stateside on this week's SMC!
20 Jun 2016Ep 106: Voltron: Legendary Defender00:52:22
We are back again to form Voltron!  Sean and Dave are joined by our friend Max Nicholson from IGN and Collider to talk the brand new Netflix and Dreamworks show - Voltron: Legendary Defender!  I'm not sure what I can say about this week's episode other than the new Voltron is fantastic and completely binge worthy.   Look for a mid-week extra special episode!
27 Jun 2016Ep 107: Beast King Go Lion! 01:29:11
We are closing out June by forming Voltron one final time and we're going out in style with Melanie Harker.  It turns out that Ms. Harker has never properly been introduced to any incarnation of Voltron - EVER!  We welcome her into the fold with the OG Voltron - Beast King Go Lion!  This is the original material that Peter and John (come on guys!) purchased overseas which is all subtitled and has 100% more gore and slavery than the American version.   Will the Voltron force ever align with the proper Lion based on color?  What is Voltron's actual origin story?  Will the space mice continue to do the can-can dance?  All these questions and more are answered in this weeks episode.  This episode is brought to you by Socks.  Just regular old socks.  "Wear'em!"  Please also check out our incredibly fun interview with Mr. Neil Kaplan who voices Emperor Zarkon in the new Netflix original series: Voltron: Legendary Defender.
04 Jul 2016Ep 108: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles01:27:40
Ninja.  Ninja rap. GO GO GO!  Sean and Dave are jumping down the sewers this week with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  Maybe this cartoon defined your childhood whether it was through this cartoon, or the action figure, and/or the live action movies?!   TMNT felt like an old friend that you hadn't seen in a while and then suddenly you bump into each other and you ask the question, "why are you adding such bad sound fx?"  Ya know, relatable stuff that everyone goes through.   Our good buddy, Dr. Jason Woods, joins the show with some amazing TMNT costume stories.  At the end the gang just throws a pizza party and takes the FB quiz "which Turtle are you?"  Turns out that Dave is a 'Carrie.'   This episode is brought to you by Hats.  They go on your head!  Crazy.  "Wear'em!"   Tune in next week as we start our July journey in CBS Saturday Morning cartoon here on the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.
11 Jul 2016Ep 109: Ace Ventura: Pet Detective01:17:54
We here at Saturday Mourning Cartoons would like to apologize, to you the listener, if you have witnessed the animated horror called Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.  "How bad is it, guys!?"   "Well, ALLLLLLRIGHTY THEN, thank you for ASS-king," spoken through our collective butt.  It was so bad that we had to invent a totally new way to classify how bad cartoons can get when you shove an intellectual property through the lens of the child's cartoon that is so desperate for you to remember that intellectual property, that it only focuses on strained catch phrases that were once funny in an adult movie. Pretty freakin' bad.   Will Sean break down and start doing a Jim Carey impression?  Will Dave throw a fit at the absurdity of watching two voice actors try to out "Jim Carey" each other?  Only time will tell on this week's episode of Saturday Mourning Cartoons!   This episode is brought to you by Fingers.  You've got ten of them!  "Use'em!"  Tune in next week as we get into our 3rd cartoon for July's journey into the CBS Saturday Morning cartoon block here on the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.
18 Jul 2016Ep 110: Tales from the Cryptkeeper 01:14:51
Sean and Dave want to know if you have you ever had the following thought, "I'd love to adapt a Black Comedy anthology that used to be a 1950's comic book, that then HBO adapted into a live action show, but I want to remove all the sex, perversion, and gore, so kids can watch it!"   Extremely relatable, huh?   Well, that's exactly what the CBS Saturday morning cartoon block of programming did in the 90's with Tales from the Cryptkeeper.   If you were ever a fan of the HBO series in the 90's then you'll remember each show was had an introduction from the Cryptkeeper himself.  So, how would you do this type of intro for a children's cartoon?  Well, you'd pepper in nothing but "Dad jokes" and bad puns.  How will Sean react to the idea of Werewolf tea?  Will Dave finally become a franchise owner for a health food store?   All of this and more on this week's episode of Saturday Mourning Cartoons!  This week's episode is brought to you by "thoughts."  Thoughts are the things that happen in your brain!  "Think'em, think'em real good!"  Join us next week as the SMC crew has special guest comedian Evan Valentine on the show to finish up our CBS Saturday morning cartoon block with the non so covert WildC.A.T.s!
25 Jul 2016Ep 111: WildC.A.T.s01:21:15
What happens when a shows theme song is a total earworm but the show itself is complete garbage?   Sean and Dave invite Evan Valentine back to try to solve the riddle of WildC.A.T.s, which means Covert Action Team plural?!  There is really only one team and NOTHING, we mean absolutely NOTHING, is covert about this band of misfits heroes.    Will Dave ever decipher what the lyrics are in the theme song?  Will Sean ever manage to get a characters name straight?  Will Evan explain the intricacies of Image comics?  (the answers are maybe, never, and yes) The thrilling conclusion of our CBS Saturday Morning line up month comes to a halt with Jim Lee's WildC.A.T.s only on the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast! This episode is brought to you by your stomach.  "Trust your gut!"  Stomachs - intuition and food!  Next month kicks off 5 weeks of Transformers because A) we are gluttons for punishment and B)  Transformers: Combiner Wars  is coming out thanks to Machinima.com and www.go90.com/!  Get ready to get started with the OG 80's series of Transformers!
01 Aug 2016Ep 112: Transformers01:12:50
This week we are walking on hallowed ground with generation 1 of Transformers.  Sean and Dave feel that you cannot get anymore 80's nostalgic than the OG of this franchise that has spanned over 3+ decades!  The battle between Optimus and Megatron feels like a classic battle than has gone on forever.  And it HAS gone on forever, mainly because every time you kill one of these characters you're forced to remember that they're robots and they can be repaired and rebuilt. So, does this classic battle of good vs evil stand the test of time?  Does Sean enjoy the robotic voices in this show?  Does Dave finally begin to understand the hierarchy of Cybertron?  All of this and more on this weeks episode of Saturday Mourning Cartoons! This weeks episode is brought to you by "comfort zones."  Once you're outside of your comfort zone, you'll never be the same!  Comfort zones - "LEAVE'EM!"  This month we are digging dig into everything Transformers related!  Insert that Matrix of Leadership and get ready for Transformers: The Headmasters next week only on the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.
08 Aug 2016Ep 113: Transformers The Headmasters01:15:09
How many Transformer's cartoons are there?  The answer is A LOT.  There are really a ton of Transformers cartoons and it's pretty incredible.  And now for a second question!  Have you ever had the following question  - "is there a Japanese, non-canon, Transformers series?"  Sean and Dave answer that  with Transformers: The Headmaster on this week's episode.   If last week's Transformers Generation 1 was devoid of battle then this week we have the complete opposite.  The Headmaster is nothing but battles, across three planets, with tons of Robots that are really not in disguise at all.  Will Dave come to love the Trainbots?  Will Sean finally figure out what a "Headmaster" is on this show?  (the answers are yes and no)  All of that and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast. This weeks episode is brought to you by "grocery shopping."  A chore that you always leave until late on a Sunday.  Grocery Shopping - "Gotta shop'em ALL"  This month we are digging dig into everything Transformers related!  Insert that Matrix of Leadership and get ready for Transformers: Super God Masterforce next week only on the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.
15 Aug 2016Ep 114: Transformers Super-God Masterforce 01:15:30
What if I told you that a Japanese Transformer's cartoon aired out of order in Russia.  As if Russia need another damn problem.  Is there another problem, you ask?  Well, not if you are confused by an Autobot and human mashup.  That's right, a Transformer who is also a human, who is also probably some type of a vehicle.  Sounds like a problem, right?  We are back this week with more problems and more questions, like WTF is Transformer's Super-God Masterforce?  Is someone a God?  Are they Super?  What is a Masterforce?  Why does Sean have some of these toys in his garage?  We promise NOT to answer a single one of these questions as Sean and Dave explore: Transformers: Super-God Masterforce on this week's episode.   This weeks episode is brought to you by "shoulders."  Shoulders because without them we would all look weird.  Shoulders - "shrug'em if you gott'em!"  This month we are digging dig into everything Transformers related!  Insert that Matrix of Leadership and get ready for Transformers: Robots in Disguise next week only on the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.
23 Aug 2016Ep 115: Transformers Robots in Disguise01:12:33
Another Japanese Transformers series?!  Guys!  It's been three weeks of nothing but Japanese Transformers, so how are Dave and Sean still alive?  This week's Robots in Disguise features friend of the show, Neil Kaplan as the voice of Optimus Prime.  AND we're also joined by Charlie Visconage, DC artist and painter!   Will Charlie understand that there's really NO disguise for these robots?  Will Dave edit down all reviews that are over 500 characters?  Will Sean find every possible moment in a show where there's a weird parental connection?  (the answers are yes, yes, and yes! )  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast!  This week's episode is brought to you by Frustration.  Frustration, the things that itches at the back of your brain ALL THE DAMN TIME.  Frustration, "let is consume you."   Next week, we finish out of Transformers month with Combiner Wars!  Buckle up because you're gonna want to listen!
05 Sep 2016Ep 117: Mighty Mouse The New Adventures01:19:11
What happen when you mash together bad puns, (mickey) mouse, and a super hero theme in order to ignite the successful careers of many 90's animators and cartoonists?  Well, you politely tip your hat to the antics of Mighty Mouse the New Adventures!  Melanie Harker, artist and director, returns to talk about one of her favorite cartoons when she was growing up and how she remembers her mom fondly having several episodes on VHS.  Don't worry, we explain what VHS tapes are for the younger listeners. Will Dave and Sean agree upon how VHS tapes are created?  Will Melanie elaborate on what a "cheese pie" truly is in pop-culture.  Are fingers better than toes?  All of this and more on this week's episode of Saturday Mourning Cartoons. This weeks episode is brought to you by "mold."  Mold, the stuff that you really do NOT want on the food you eat.  Mold - "Oh, no, I'm gonna be sick!"  For the month of September we are watching cartoons that you our listeners have recommend and also our guests!   Next week we're getting into some cartoons from half way across the world!  Get ready for that and more on the next episode of SMC.   If you are digging our show, then please leave us a rating on iTunes and like us on facebook.  Thanks in advance.  You are the best!   https://www.facebook.com/SaturdayMourningCartoons/
12 Sep 2016Ep 118: North Korean Propaganda cartoons01:23:06
What happens when you isolate an entire country, tell them they're a democracy, and then elect yourself as supreme leader and ruler?  Guys and gals, you guessed it - we are digging into North Korean propaganda cartoons this week on the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.  We have had several people mention and suggest this style of cartoon and an article on Cracked.com helped us to narrow down the list of toons to cleanse our minds before we defect to North Korea.  (just kidding, that will NEVER happen)  Will Sean get his fix from Rambo Frog?  Will Dave don a lion's mane like wig and giant paws over his hands?  Will the gang every be able to agree on a single title or moral from any of these episodes?  Find out this week as Sean and Dave explore the Dennis Rodman style insanity of North Korean propaganda cartoons on the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast. This week's episode is brought to you by "Addresses."  Seriously, Dave!  Why would you confirm your address with Sean?  He's just gonna sent you weird stuff in the mail.  Addresses - "you've got mail!"  Next week we continue to jump into our listener suggestion box on the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.   If you are digging our show, then please leave us a rating on iTunes and like us on facebook.  Thanks in advance.  You are the best!   https://www.facebook.com/SaturdayMourningCartoons/
19 Sep 2016Ep 119: Ed, Edd, n Eddy 01:25:26
This week Sean and Dave have a very special guest for a special cartoon.  Dave's brother, Andrew, joins the show to discuss Ed, Edd, n Eddy - a trio of boys who are always out to make a dollar for candy.  Each 'ed' showcases a single interesting facet of childhood - deviousness, compassion, and absurdist behavior.  Rounding out the cul-de-sac, the Ed's have a group of odd-ball friends that makes this show relatable for many fans.   Will Andrew's 'purgatory' theory hold up?   Will Dave make friends with a 2x4 of wood?  Will Sean continue to live in terror as we have our first death threat on his life to kick off a show?  (answers; maybe, definitely, NEVER)  All of this and more as the gang gets into Ed, Edd, n Eddy on this week's Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.  This week's episode is brought to you by "threats."  Seriously, Andrew?!  Not being called 'Andy' would have been great to know during the pre-show.  Threats - "when you don't like a variation of your very own name!"  Next week we continue to jump into our listener suggestion box on the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.   If you are digging our show, then please leave us a rating on iTunes and like us on facebook.  Thanks in advance.  You are the best!   https://www.facebook.com/SaturdayMourningCartoons/
28 Sep 2016Ep 120: Bigfoot and the Muscle Machines - Part 201:02:49
Rev your engines for part 2 of Bigfoot and the Muscle Machines.   This episode is brought to you by "problems."  If you've got a problem, then just do as Yank Justice would do AND drive your car into and through the problem!  Problems - 'drive through them!'   If you are digging our show, then please leave us a rating on iTunes and like us on facebook.  Thanks in advance.  You are the best!   https://www.facebook.com/SaturdayMourningCartoons/
26 Sep 2016Ep 120: Bigfoot and the Muscle Machines - Part 101:07:43
What happens when you put Sean and Dave inside a monster truck?  Well, they both make the decision to re-name themselves and take on monster truck rally personas in this week's episode featuring Bigfoot and the Muscle Machines.  Buckle up with Rocky Road (Dave) and Tank Bicep (Sean) for the monster truck rally of a lifetime.   Bigfoot, the household name of monster trucks from the 80's, had a cartoon and it's every bit as crazy as it sounds.  How can the show NOT be insane with character names like Yank Justice, Prof D, the twins Red and Redder, and Close McCall?!   Will Dave admit that he's either big, bad, dirty, and/or mean?  Will Sean continue to drive a vehicle straight through all of his problems?  Will Yank Justice every admit to being tender with a woman?  (Answers - yes, to all, probably, and nah)     We attempt to wrap our heads about this car crash of a cartoon on PART 1 of this week's episode of Bigfoot and the Muscle right here on the Saturday Mourning Cartoon podcast. YEEEEEHAWWWWWW!  If you are digging our show, then please leave us a rating on iTunes and like us on facebook.  Thanks in advance.  You are the best!   https://www.facebook.com/SaturdayMourningCartoons/
24 Oct 2016Ep 124: Casper 'There's Good Boos To-Night'01:00:04
We never intended to have this month's theme be 'dead kids' but that's what has happened.  We didn't make these cartoons and we certainly don't know how to grasp the concept of Casper.  Yes, he's a friendly ghost but do you want to be friendly with him?  Probably not, as indicative as his preference to seek friendship in animals instead of people which ultimately ends up allowing him to make a friend!   Will Dave continued to get spooked by ghost stories?  Will Sean find more puns like 'Good boos' within the cartoon?  (answers; yes and prolly)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast!  This week's episode is brought to you by "Ghost Parents."  Just like your regular parents except they're ghosts, which means they are always watching you.  Ghost Parents - try to sleep now, kids!  If you are digging our show, then please leave us a rating on iTunes and like us on facebook.  Thanks in advance.  You are the best!   https://www.facebook.com/SaturdayMourningCartoons/
03 Oct 2016Ep 121: Rick Moranis in Gravedale High01:06:59
I think that we all remember when Rick Moranis was acting.  Moranis was extremely notable in Ghostbusters, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, and of course the cartoon Gravedale High.  Wait..what?  You didn't know that Moranis was in a short lived cartoon that that asks the question, "what would happen if the undead/creepy children of the Universal Monsters went to high school?"  In order to answer this question, we get into Rick Moranis in Gravedale High on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast. Will Dave every stop saying his new catchphrase, "man?"  Will Sean be able to understand the complex process of stitching together a small child to make Frankenstein Jr?  All of this and more on this week's episode. This week is brought to you by "ghosts in your attic."  Who does't love to seal off that room and pretend like they don't exist?  Ghosts in your attic - "they watch you while you sleep!"   We're kicking off our Monster Madness Month for Halloween.  Join us as we haunt more of your nostalgic past with cartoons from your youth.  If you're digging the show, then please rate us on iTunes and Stitcher.  And also Like us on Facebook!
10 Oct 2016Ep 122: Inhumanoids01:19:44
What happens when you take a heavy handed message on climate change, mix it with bad science, and a dash of terrible looking battle suits that look ridiculously uncomfortable?  Well, you get the Inhumanoids, of course!  Jamal Newman joins the Earth Core crew to discuss what was a weird cartoon mess from the same jerks that brought you - Jem and the Holograms, Bigfoot and the Muscle Machines, and Robotixs!  This episode will leave you asking important questions like, "How on earth did this show get made?"  and "Is Earth Core sponsored and funded by the US Govt?"   Will Jamal get blinded by the sun and trapped in amber?  Will Dave build a suit that gives him "bear traps" for arms?  Will Sean be able to cobble together a story from the talking trees?  (answers; yes, maybe, probably)  All of this and more and this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons  podcast.  This week's episode is brought to you by "climate change."  It's a real damn thing!  Let's just stop acting like weird stuff isn't happening all the damn time.  Climate change - BELIEVE IT!   If you are digging our show, then please leave us a rating on iTunes and like us on facebook.  Thanks in advance.  You are the best!   https://www.facebook.com/SaturdayMourningCartoons/
17 Oct 2016Ep 123: Mickey Mouse 'Lonesome Ghosts'00:57:00
This 1937 cartoon asks the question, "did Goofy inspire the music for the 80's hit movie Ghostbusters?"  We're not kidding.  Mickey, Donald, and Goofy prove to us that you don't have to be skilled to have a job at all.  Released three days after Snow White, this cartoon proves that the Disney Trinity really knows how to appeal to your children, I mean, with their use of guns to kills ghosts.  Let's examine that previous sentence again -  you want to KILL a GHOST with a GUN.  Thanks a lot, Disney.  Will Sean finally understand the phrase "spooky booty?"  Will Dave stop running into pantries and pouring flour and molasses all over his body?  (answer; of course not and NOPE)  All of these questions and more answer on this week's Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast! This week's episode is brought to you by "McShivers Vacation Homes."  McShivers Vacation homes - take the 'plunge' with one of our investment properties and your life will never be the same again!  Our prices are so low that it will make you SCREAM!  McShivers - it'll feels like you've died and gone and heaven!   If you are digging our show, then please leave us a rating on iTunes and like us on facebook.  Thanks in advance.  You are the best!   https://www.facebook.com/SaturdayMourningCartoons/
31 Oct 2016Ep 125: It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown01:10:58
Hey Blockhead!  Yeah, you.  Did you get the invite that said you're not invited to this week's episode?  That's weird because I made two lists AND then I sent out both lists like the fucking MADMAN!  Good grief and Happy Halloween as we sit in a pumpkin patch overnight into order to A) get hypothermia or B) see the Great Pumpkin, or C) all of the above?!   This week we get into It's a Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown for the show's 50th anniversary. Will Sean every have enough earnest behavior to summon the Great Pumpkin?  Does Dave have the perfect mouth for bobbing for apples?  Will Charlie Brown ever kick that football?   (answers nope, yes, and who cares?)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast. This week's episode is brought to you by "Spoopy."  Yes, Spoopy because it's not quite Spooky, so the internet is calling it something else.  Spoopy - "there's a skeleton inside of you!"  If you are digging our show, then please leave us a rating on iTunes and like us on facebook.  Thanks in advance.  You are the best!   https://www.facebook.com/SaturdayMourningCartoons/
07 Nov 2016Ep 126: Chuck Norris Karate Kommandos01:22:54
What happens when you take Chuck Norris and put him in charge of a multi-ethnic squad of Commandos?  For one thing, Chuck Norris doesn't play by your rules regarding spelling because Commandos is now spelled with a "K."  You heard right!  Chuck Norris has roundhouse kicked the alphabet and he's now set his sights on the evil organization VULTURE, led by the nefarious, yet educated, Dr. Claw.  You also get to hear the name of our hero, Chuck Norris, said dozens of time throughout the intro and episode!  Chuck Norris!  Will Dave reveal that he's finally had "Too Much" of these cartoons?  Will Sean give a detailed explanation of how the franchises Mission Impossible and Fast and the Furious stole idea from Chuck Norris?  Will we ever stop saying Chuck Norris?  (Answers nope, yes, and of course!)  All of this on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoon podcast. This week's episode is brought to you by "Karate."  Yes, Karate.  Karate, allowing normal people to think that they might be a ninja for about 100 years.  Karate - "It's not cultural appropriation because it's a workout."  KARATE!  If you are digging our show, then please leave us a rating on iTunes and like us on facebook.  Thanks in advance.  You are the best!   https://www.facebook.com/SaturdayMourningCartoons/
14 Nov 2016Ep 127: Sky Commanders01:06:46

What happens when a new continent bursts forth from the sea and the landmasses that it creates are only stable for about 24 hours?  You send in the military to assess the situation OR you send in a group of about nine randomly assigned commandos with jetpack backpacks and laser rope to navigate this strange new land?  Hint: pick the latter because we've watched Sky Commanders this week on SMC.  Just think Spiral Zone meets GI Joe meets Grappling hooks.   If you can picture that in your head, then you've got the gist of this crazy, toys before cartoon, show.

Do we every get Dave out of a pneumatic tube?  Is Sean able to operate without a Laz E Boy chair?  (answers definitely nah, and certainly YAS)  All of these questions and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.

This week's episode is brought to you by "grappling hooks."  Grappling hooks - every child's favorite method of transportation and infinitly better than walking. Grappling  Hooks - "swinging into a store near you!"

If you are digging our show, then please leave us a rating on iTunes and like us on facebook.  Thanks in advance.  You are the best!    https://www.facebook.com/SaturdayMourningCartoons/

21 Nov 2016Ep 128: Cadillacs and Dinosaurs01:16:23

Image, if you will, it's the future and instead of using established words, we collectively begin calling things by new and different names.  Confusing, right?  Welcome to 600 years in the future and oh, dinosaurs are also alive!  We have some weird factions of people like "old blood mechanics," dinosaurs called "slithers," and the machinato vitae OR machine of life.  It's a wild world full of betrayal, forrest ambushes, and cities on the sea.  The world building on this show is insane!

Will we rename Dave to Dave-a-saurus?  Will Sean understand where the "trunk" is on a car?  (answers No, and sadly no)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.

This week's episode is brought to you by "automobiles."  Yes, automobiles; the thing you use when you need to go some where and can't walk, bike, or get someone to drive you.  Automobiles."

If you are digging our show, then please leave us a rating on iTunes and like us on facebook.  Thanks in advance.  You are the best!    https://www.facebook.com/SaturdayMourningCartoons/

28 Nov 2016Ep 129: Emergency +401:29:15

What happens when you give three kids a van, a bucket of paint, and a couple random animals?  Well, of course they begin to follow around California EMS/Firefighters as a "jitney" emergency vehicle.  It all makes sense, right?  We're getting into the animated version of the live action 70's drama Emergency which is called Emergency +4 because there are, maybe, four children that following around Squad 51.  This show makes zero sense to us, but what does make sense is that we have friend of the show Alex Capece joining us because he's a real Firefighter in the District of Columbia.  Hit the "box alarm" because we're all about to learn something on this episode.

Will Dave get covered with aqueous film forming foam?  Will Sean learn how to pilot a helicopter?  Will Alex be lowered into the studio in something that resembles an Iron Maident torture device?  (answers: yes, nah, and definitely) All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.

This week's episode is brought to you by "dad jokes."  Dad jokes!  Knock knock.  Who's there?  Dad.  Dad who?  Dad jokes.  Dad jokes - if you're ever in an emergency, a series of dad jokes just may save your life.  Dad jokes "go a head and roll your eyes."  Dad jokes.

05 Dec 2016Ep 130: Star Wars Holiday Special01:04:11

Happy December to all of our toon fam listeners!  We're gearing up for so many wonderful holidays this season like Life Day!  That good ol' Wookiee holiday that celebrates life and the creation of a bad live action/animated Star Wars Holiday Special.  We're getting into the animated portion of the Star Wars Holiday Special to relax because we're not going to discuss the merits of Lumpy the Wookie.  ...or will we?

Will Dave turn into Boba Fett?  Will Sean fall into the Sarlacc Pit?  Is the planet in this cartoon really made of Panna Cotta?  (answers Yes, yes, and yes)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.

This week's episode is brought to you by "delays.'  Delays - preventing you from finis

12 Dec 2016Ep 131: The Little Drummer Boy01:21:46

Rankin Bass holiday specials have become a staple of December for us but what happens when the cartoon completely sucks?  This week we watched The Little Drummer Boy with Melanie Harker and really dig deep on the idea of acceptance and gift giving.  After having tragedy strike his family, Aaron, the little drummer boy, decides that he only wants to be friends with the animals and hates all human.  But LDB has good reason as he's kidnapped immediately into the deserts worst traveling performance group.  When his camel is sold to the Magi, what's LDB to do?  We'll find out on this week's episode of SMC.

Will Dave smile like a camel?  Will Sean entertain a bunch of people at an H&R Block?  Will Melanie become the 4th Magi?  (answer no, maybe, and yes)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.

This week's episode is brought to you by "percussion instruments!"  Want to take out all your rage and anger?  Grab a percussion instrument and start banging away.  Percussion instruments "let the music take control."

02 Jan 2017Ep 134: Oh Yeah! Cartoons 01:10:29

WE ARE BACK!  It's January which means only one thing - NEW YEAR'S NICKTOONS!  This is our third year doing New Year's NickToons and we're getting into some interesting territory.  Kicking off 2017 is Oh Yeah! Cartoons which was a variety show that acted as a spring board for cartoons like the Fairly OddParents, Chalk Zone, and My Life as a Teenage Robot.  All good things and was the begin of Frederator Studio that has launched so many other great cartoons (Bee and PuppyCat, Bravest Warriors, and Adventure Time).

Will Dave start his own variety show?  Will Sean animate a version of Dave and his cat and pitch it to Frederator?  (answers Yes and Absolutely)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.

This episode is sponsored by "2017!"  Yes, the year 2017.  Will it be better than 2016?  Who knows.  2017 - "only time will tell!"

09 Jan 2017Ep 135: The Wild Thornberrys01:06:37

What happen when you put an entire family on a bus together, have them travel the globe, and record documentaries about animals.  Well, you would get our second NickToon of 2017 - the Wild Thornberrys!  Another Klasky Csupo production, this cartoon stars Eliza Thornberry, voice by Lacey Chabert, who came speak to animals!  The rest of the fam consists of a grunge sister, a wacky father, a chill mom, a monkey, and an abducted aboriginal child named Donnie.

Will Dave learn to speak with animals and become the next Dog Whisperer?  Will Sean be abducted into a family and develop stockholm syndrome?  (Answer yes and yes!)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast!

16 Jan 2017Ep 136: Rocket Power00:59:54

What happens when you give a handful of kids ZERO supervision and allow them to get involved in extreme sports?  Well, you'd have Rocket Power as a Nicktoon!  Four kids (that's enough for a quad game) get Xtreme with zero consequence or even less thought about who they hurt and the damage they'd cause.  In the end, it's friendship that really that repairs everything including a completely flooded foundation to a house. (right?)

Will Dave finaly get that sponsorship from Dorito Cool Ranch Xtreme Flavor blasted brand chips?  Will Sean finally be able to do a Heelflip into a Finger Flip into a Front Foot Impossible?  (answers: Yes and yeah, brah!)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.

23 Jan 2017Ep 137: As Told By Ginger01:03:15

This is a interesting week for us because we are two white men in our 30's watching a cartoon about teenage girls in high school.  How are we going to identify?  How are we going to understand the delicate nature and balance of all these emotional relationships?  To answer your question - we LOVED this show.  Seriously.  No sarcasm.  We really loved every moment of this show and how it handled navigating relationships in high school.  Both Sean and Dave are incredibly impressed by this show and its skill in portraying the nuance of relationships at this stage in life.

Will Dave go back to high school in order to identify as a woman?  Will Sean get a job in real estate and then suddenly reallize his mentor is a swindler?  (answers - no, that'd be creepy, and sure, why not have a dramatic career change!)  All of this and more on this week's episode on the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.

30 Jan 2017Ep 138: Invader Zim01:03:24

Invading the planet Earth is hard!  It's so HARD, guys and gals.  **stomps foot down**  Thankfully we get to bring along our trusty GIR.  What?  GIR has destroyed most of the house and is now freaking out because he wants tacos?!  The nerve!  The impudence!  The tacos!  I'll report this minor success to the Tallest...oh, they don't want to talk right now.  Never you fear!  I will report my success.  I am successful.  Things are good!  **implodes**

Will Dave ever get a chance to eat at the Pizza Pig?  Will Sean stop fearing home automation and the robots in his house?  (Answers: yes and NEVER)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.

06 Feb 2017Ep 139: Sectaurs: Warriors of Symbion01:12:04

Here's recipe for disaster: Take 1 whole "star planet," add in a "perfect world," and a dash of "biological experiment?"  If you guessed that we're going to mutate an entire planet into bug people, then you guessed correct.  How does a perfect society have an experiment that goes so wrong that it contaminants an entire world?  We have no clue but we're on the line with OSHA and ask those questions right now!

Will Dave ever fly as high as an Alta Fly?  Will Sean attempt to eBay the spider toy he mentioned on the show?  (answers: always, and most likely)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.

13 Feb 2017Ep 140: GI Joe Sigma Six01:10:44

GI Joe is a sacred cartoon in the ancient halls of the SMC podcast.  These General Infantry Soldiers are in the upper eschelon of cartoons that is reserved for animation that has defined our childhood.  We understand that reboots will happen and we look forward to seeing our beloved childhood nostalgia with a new coat of paint.  Or in this case - a new coat of paint, mecha suits, a castle rocket, and the world's WORST game of chess!  Oh, and spoiler - GI Joe becomes a terrorist organization?!  It's all very confusing.

Will Dave eat something gross like Tunnel Rat?  Will Sean EVER be able to hack the Cobra Firewall?  (answers: yes and no way Jose)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.

20 Feb 2017Ep 141: Big Guy and Rusty00:56:52

This cartoon starts with a lie.  Not just a lie to one or two people but a lie to the entire world except for a handful of military personnel.  The US government has been lying to us about the BIG GUY.  That's right.  He's not a huge robot but rather, it's a robot suit that is worn by a pilot.  A human, honest to goodness, flesh and blood human being, who is tasked with the awesome responsibility of protecting the world.  The nerve!  The treachery!  The idea of decommissioning the Big Guy?  What happens when you scrape one military defense program for another that is...a little too childish, perhaps?  We find out what happens when the Big Guy teams up with Rusty the boy robot for one hell of a patriotic ride.

Will Dave ever come out of his giant robot suit for the show?  Will Sean overload his emotional circuits?  (answers yes, and nah because he's a robot)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast!

27 Feb 2017Ep 142: James Bond Jr 01:22:42

Bond. James Bond...had a kid. Let's all be very clear.  You heard us!  We're all lying to James Bond Jr to allow James Bond to avoid paying child support.  This is crazy.  We're 99.99% sure that you can't have an "junior" suffix for a name if it's NOT a direct child, right?  We're now very confused but not as confused as a weird smattering of people that are enrolled at the Warfield Academy. Relatives of Q, Felix Leiter, and the actual Buddy Mitchell; this cast of characters is insane.  The villains are even more crazed because it's a combination of Captain Planet villains and the villains from Bond movies.

Will Dave end of break curfew in order to navigate his flying car off campus?  Will Sean get a tatto of 003 1/2 on his arm? (answers: yes and yes)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast!

06 Mar 2017Ep 143: Ninja Robot vs Gurren Lagann01:13:38

Get ready for the best bracket of your life!  In March, we pit two shows head to head each week!  Last year we tackled "Pocket Monsters" and Pokemon came out on top.  This year, we're bringing you "Mecha March Madness Month!"  To kick things off, we have Ninja Robot vs. Gurren Lagann!

Will Dave trade-in his "underground smock" for some side boob action?  Will Sean attempt to explain to a cop why he's in possession of a firearm while drinking under age in a bar on Mars?  (answers: a resounding YES to both)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.

13 Mar 2017Ep 144: Robotech vs Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam01:15:29

Second week of our March Mecha Madness month continues with Robotech vs Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam.  Robotech (the Macross Saga) is three separate anime that have been cut together.  Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam is a boring entry into a series that many people love.  How will they pair against one another?  What will be the result of this year's tournament?

Will Dave discover that he's three separate anime series mashed into one person?  Will Sean stumble while piloting a Gundam and write an apology note?  (answers - yes, and absolutel not)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast!

20 Mar 2017Ep 145: Neon Genesis Evangelion vs Mobile Suit Gundam Wing01:31:29

We're at our penultimate episode for Mecha March Madness month here at SMC and we have a real brawl this week with Neon Genesis Evangelion vs Mobile Suit Gundam Wing.  Evangelion and Mobile Suit Gundam were some people's entry anime for mecha and each holds a special place in Sean and Dave's hearts.  But then comes the deciding factor as, our guest, Tony Lazzeroni weighs in with plenty of spite points.

Will Dave mine enough "gundamium" to build his own Gundam?  Will Sean find out that a familiar soul is contained within his Eva Unit?  Will Tony get sweet sweet Deathscythe's for hands?  (answers: no cuz come the heck on, probably, and definitely)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoon's podcast.

27 Mar 2017Ep 146: Code Geass vs Zoids Genesis01:27:30

You made it!  We are at the final episode of our Mecha March Madness month with special guest - Dr. Shannon Davies Mancus!  We are bringing out the big guns in our finale with Code Geass and Zoids Genesis!  Code Geass is an alternate history anime that has a splash of the Carolingian age mixed with (not so subtle) references to Orwell's 1984.  Zoids Genesis is the same dopey Zoids show that you've come to know and love! Who will win this round, plus, who will take home the trophy for the entire month of March?!

Will Shannon gain an awesome purple laser eagle eye?  Will Dave stop calling Sean an "Eleven?"  Will Sean ever get another shot with his 'beam tortoise?"  (answers: definitely, no, and probably not)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast!

03 Apr 2017Ep 147: FLCL01:13:12

Gas up your vespa, tune your bass guitar, and prep the huge bandaids for your foreheads because we're getting into FLCL or Fooly Cooly!  What does it mean?  What gives?  Why am I transitioning into a manga style while I'm writing this?  FLCL is 100% bananas and 100% fun.  It's an anime that requires you to sit back and attempt to let it all wash over you.  Under normal cricumstances, the confluence of all these random piece would NOT coalesce into a good show.  BUT FLCL manages to pull it off and does it with such style and grace.  It makes for six extremely imaginative, yet random episodes.

Will Dave get hit in the head with a bass guitar?  Will Sean discover that he's part of the terminal core? (answer yes and probably)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast!

10 Apr 2017Ep 148: One Piece01:22:52

This week is a banner week.  We are finally getting around to one of the biggest anime series in the world that continues to break records year after year.  We are of course talking about One Piece, and we are joined by our special guest Alex Kazanas.  Alex is co-host of the successful One Piece Podcast (http://onepiecepodcast.com/) and shares his vast knowledge of the One Piece with Sean and Dave this week.

Will Dave eat a Devil Fruit?  Will Sean launch himself into a birds mouth?  Will Alex manage to steal more treasure from other pirates?  (answers: yes, yes, and yes!)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.

17 Apr 2017Ep 149: Outlaw Star01:17:03

We are on a journey this week (not a cruise like last week).  A jouney of extrodinary measures with an extra-ordinary cast of characters.  We're setting out aboard the XGP with Charlie Visconage to talk all about Outlaw Star.  Bounty hunters turned good guys turned bounty hunters turned protectors of the universe?  Yeah, this show is bonkers and a lot of fun.  Interesting characters, a mix of magic, and goal driven plot all bundled together in a race to the galatic leyline!

Will Dave find more Caster shells?  Will Sean conform to the group mind of the Ctarl-Ctarl?  Will Charlie ever get tao magic right?  (answers yes, maybe, and a strong yup) All of this and more on this week's Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast!

24 Apr 2017Ep 150: The Big O 01:09:15

"Cast in the name of God, Ye not guilty!"  This phrase accompanies the theme song which chimes "BIG O" over and over again.  It's as if the denzins of Paradigm City forgot about the mechanical savior that navigates the ruins below their feet.  Thankfully, the always present, dashing, and Bruce Wayne-esque negotiator named Roger Smith is happy to remind everyone that he's the pilot and city's only hope.  But how will he negotiate his way out of his new client, an Android, Dororthy Wayneright?

Will Dave every figure out what "big o" stands for?  Will Sean every be able to call the Mega Deus?  (answer yes and yes)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.

01 May 2017Ep 151: Guardians of the Galaxy01:12:41

It's May and we LOVE alliteration.  Sean and Dave also love the Marvel Cinematic Universe and with Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2 in theaters on May 4, we're dedicating an entire month to Marvel cartoons.  Kicking it off is the GotG gang on Disney XD, which is a little strange because all of the characters are modeled after the live action but this isn't canon with the live action, nor is it supposed to help bridge the gaps between the movies, nor is it supposed to help you understand about Star Lord's dad but it IS a continuation from the first movie...?!  Anyone else confused by this?  So, why does this cartoons exist?  Does it retain the awesome music of the original movie?  Is there humor still there...

Will Dave find his Cosmic Seed?  Will Sean be able to defuse an implosion device? (answers: yes, and maybe...)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast!

08 May 2017Ep 152: Wolverine and the X-men01:19:00

What if I told you that we could get every single X-man and X-woman into a cartoon show?  No lie.  What if we packed every single character into one show and then told you we were going to focus on your favorite character like Wolverine.  And then Wolverine ended up being such a secondary character that by the end he was completely unnecessary?  Yeah, you'd then have Wolverine and the X-men, which should have been called Emma Frost fights to get the Dark Phoenix power for 26 episodes.  It's a show that is not to be missed (actually you can 100% skip this cartoon).  Go back and jus watch the 90's cartoon.  100% shade right now.

Will Dave finally get Wolverine claws?  Will Sean be able to get that time share on Genosha?  (answers yes and yes, but there's a really long presentation to sit through)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.

15 May 2017Ep 153: Black Panther01:30:19

Marvel May has been pretty rough so far.  Gurdains (a reviewers spelling not ours) of the Galaxy and Wolverine and the X-men; two shows that are very polarizing and based off of successful IP.  This week we get into BET's motion comic - Black Panther and wow, does it shine as a beacon of hope for this month.  Complex plot with a multitude of characters,  brutal combat sequences, gritty imagery, and it's a motion comic?  Usually a motion comic would take us out of our focus when trying to watch a cartoon but this is done better that 90% of the cartoons we've watched.  Great execution on this show which only lasted six episodes.

Will Dave finally challenge the Prince of a far off land during an annual combat summit?  Will Sean really get that internship in Wakanda as an IT professional? (answers yes and submit a ticket in Jira to find out)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.

29 May 2017Ep 155: Spider-Man (1967)01:21:54

We are back with more radioactive spider blood this week and a catchy theme song to boot!  *twap* We are finishing up Marvel May with the original animated series of the wall-crawler in all of his psychedelic glory.  A couple confusing things - 1) Peter Parker sounds A LOT older than a teenager, 2) Some of these villains are not canon, 3) season three was considered to be "too influenced by drugs" thanks to Ralph Bakshi.  This original cartoon spider-man has some high points when the villains are relatable but what does the SMC gang think of the ice men from Pluto?  or the footage taken from Rocket Robin Hood?  *twap*

Will Dave have the next part of his life directed by Ralph Bakshi?  Will Sean be able to understand when things are not canon?  (answers yes, and absolutel not)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.

22 May 2017Ep 154: Ultraforce01:23:45

What if you were to rip off both Marvel and DC comics in an attempt to do something interesting and new?  But instead of new and interesting, all of your designs ended up looking like it came from a super hero recycling program?  AND then Marvel purchased all of you IP, attempted to merge it into their universe, and then lit your trash up in a dumpster fire?  The end product?  Well, it's Ultraforce, of course.  The fact that the title has "force" in it really hits home how "forced" this entire series actually feels.  It's essentially "Ultra-copy-paste."  Thankfully, our guest, Evan Valentine, joins us in the pain!   (The only bonus is that there is a drug episode.)

Will Dave kick his "gook" habit?  Will Evan be able to remove his liquid flesh?  Will Sean become the new spokesperson for Ultra tech?  (answers no, no, and no)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.

05 Jun 2017Ep 156: History of SMC 00:32:44

What have Sean and Dave gone back to watch?  Over 3+ years, are there shows that clicked with our co-hosts so much that they have dedicated time and energy to enjoy them even after it's been revisited, reviewed, and ridiculed?  This week Sean and Dave take a walk down memory lane and discuss some highlights and also why it's hard to review material, even when it's been out for a couple decades.

Will Dave have to write a review about this particular episode?  Will Sean be able to able to say "remember" instead of "'member?"  (answers: no, and yes)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.

12 Jun 2017Ep 157: Steven Universe and Attack on Titan00:38:07

Continuing with our different format for June, Sean and Dave are talking about current cartoons that they've been watching; Steven Universe and Attack on Titan.  These two shows actually have a lot in common - 1) strong coming of age story, 2) a hero learning to use new powers, 3)  and story with a lot of foreshadowing.  Yes, Steven Universe and Attack on Titan are almost the same thing, despite the gruesome nature of AoT and the fun loving emotional tone of Steven Universe.  You could almost do a mash up and have Attack on Universe?  Steven Titan?  All of this and what's inside Eren's dad's basement are discussed and revealed (jk, it's probably a VHS tape like in SU's Lion 3 - Straight to Video).

Is Dave a Titan with noodley arms?  Is Sean really a Crystal Gem like a Spinel?  (answers probably and he only wishes!)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast!

19 Jun 2017Ep 158: Dragon Ball Super and Samurai Jack00:39:25

June casual conversation means that every day is a "casual Friday" where we talk about cartoons around the SMC office.  This week we are getting into two similar yet very different cartoons; Dragon Ball Super and Samurai Jack.  One show really puts the emphasis on battle and doing with it takes to beat your opponent, and then other has a constantly grumpy Vegeta.     So, grab your favorite flip flops, tank top, and shorts, cuz we're getting extremely casual.  Wait. That was too casual.  Come on, really?  Please, there are other people around!  No?  I'm calling HR.

Will Dave ever charge up his Ki to unleash a Turtle Destruction Wave?  Will Sean travel into the future only to have a leaf make him feel guilty? (answers yes and definitely)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast!

26 Jun 2017Ep 159: Cartoon Fancast01:06:19

This week's episode is a total departure from anything we have every done before; we did some fancasts.  We revisited a bunch of cartoons we have discussed and cast them with real actors.  Sounds easy, right?  Well, Dave loves doing fancasts but Sean has never done one until now.  With over 160+ cartoons to pick from, what will the guys decide should be on the big screen?  What cartoon would you pick?

Will Dave ever get a live action Gargoyles movie?  Will Sean cast himself as actor Paul Dano?  (answers yes and definitely)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast!

03 Jul 2017Ep 160: Berserk01:21:27

"Take Frank Castle, the Punisher, and multiply him by 1000," is Evan Valentine's assessment of our the hero in Berserk, named Guts.  Guts is beaten and betrayed by those close to him, and then to further add insult to injury, he's haunted by evil spirits that prevent him from sleeping.  The psychological makeup of this hero, really an anti-hero, is fascinating when you realize that Guts is seriously driven.  Driven by vengeance, love, and hate of his enemies and the singlular goal to crush them with a sword that is taller than him.

Will Evan become a Blacksmith in order to forge Sean a massive sword?  Will Dave ever obtain the "egg of the king" and become a God Hand?  (answer yes and yes)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast!

10 Jul 2017Ep 161: My Little Pony Tales01:24:02

This is the week we all knew was going to happen at some point when the guys would finally discuss My Little Pony.  It's not that they hate the show or have any problems with it, in fact, Sean even owned a MLP when he was growing up; we have no problem with the cartoon.  Instead, we're curious about the fan base.  We get fan bases and we love them, but Sean had to overcome his preconcieved notions of modern day MLP fans.  GUESS WHAT?  We're only talking about the cartoon MPL Tales today, which is actually the second animated series for these horses that have had a storied franchise over 3+ decades.  Get your saddle and other horse puns ready becase the guys are joined by Allison Keene from Collider.com this week!

Will Sean every overcome his fear of horses?  Will Dave ever understand the mark on the back of the MLP Patches?  Will Allison be able to explain horse eating habit to Sean?  (answers no, nah, and nope)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast!

17 Jul 2017Ep 162: ALF01:08:14

Melmak is a place that Sean, Dave, and special guest Jamal Newman want to visit.  After watching ALF, the three of us have attended several time share meetings to see if we can purchase a place on Melmak so we can visit ALF, or Gordon Shumway, on a more regular basis.  For a DIC entertainment show, this one had everyone impressed with the animation and also the jazzy theme music.  Also, we have ALF himself in the studio to chat about his show and experiences during the live action segments of the cartoon.

Will Jamal be able to sober up ALF?  Will Sean get cursed and be able to grow hair again?  Will Dave try the local Melmak food?  (Answers no, nope, and yes)   All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast!

24 Jul 2017Ep 163: Captain Planet and the Planeteers01:42:02

"By your powers combined, WE ARE Saturday Mourning Cartoons." - Captain Planet, probably.  We have a huge episode this week.  It's so big and beef that we had to release all 100+ minutes of it at the same time.  Why?  Because Captain Planet is amazing and still part of our zeitgeist today.  Sean is joined by artist Melanie Harker and Dr. Shannon Mancus for this week's episode as we summon the great powers that Gaia has bestowed upon us.  Oh, and we have a drug episode this week too?

Will Melanie be able overcome "mind pollution?"  Will Shannon be able to summon the powers of Heart?  Will Sean understand the Gaia hypothesis?  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast!

31 Jul 2017Ep 164: Strawberry Shortcake01:13:48

Berry Bros and Cake Bros, your time has come at last!

Special guest and friend of the show Melanie Harker has given us the gift of "Strawberry Shortcake Meets the Berrykins", a delicious 80s animated special in which the title tween and her friends defend Berryland from Sour Grapes and the Peculiar Purple Pieman of Porcupine Peak. Listen and learn how berries get their scent and flavor! IT'S SCIENCE!

Will Melanie have the scent baked into her hair?  Will Dave equate growing up to the lenght of his hair?  Will Sean ever stop eating Berrykins? (answers no, no, and no)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.

07 Aug 2017Ep 165: Muppet Babies01:09:21

The Muppet Babies says that they make their dreams come true, but at what cost?  Where are their parents?  Who is this "Nanny" and why is she taking care of these muppet babies?  What happened to Skeeter at the end of this series and why did she never join the Muppet Show proper?   We bring in our chief conspirator and friend Charlie Visconage to ask the hard hitting questions.

Will Dave ever stop wearing green/white stripped socks?  Will Sean ever get out of the nursery?  Will Charlie wake up and realize it was all a dream?  (answers: no, yes, and probably...)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.

14 Aug 2017Ep 166: Nascar Racers01:17:12

What if we took Nascar racing and made it more interesting?  More deadly? More variety of vehicles?  What if...we didn't explain any of the cool or interesting ideas we posited?  What if we made a show that shamed a driver who exhibits PSTD?  Wouldn't that be a confusing cartoon...?!  We watched Nascar Racers this week, so buckle up as we enter the Motorsphere!

Will Dave ever figure out what Nascar Unlimited Division means?  Will Sean ever finish doing the finances of Team Fastex?  (answers No and NO)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.

21 Aug 2017Ep 167: Road Rovers01:07:04

What if we told you that your dog could become something that resembles human?  Weird, right?  Now what if we told you that they would be called "Cano-sapiens?"  Really weird, right?!  It doesn't stop there as Sean and Dave watch the show Road Rovers, which has two scientists fighting again each other to see who can create the best super-powered crime-fighting anthropomorphic dogs!

Will Dave understand and replicate the technology used to make "Cano-sapiens?"  Will Sean be able to stop pointing out good/bad dog puns?  (answers no and definitely no)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.

28 Aug 2017Ep 168: Space Carrier Blue Noah aka ThunderSub01:08:37

Look up there in the sky!  Is it a sub?  Is it a space-ship?  That's the question Sean and Dave are trying to answer this week after watching Space Carrier Blue Noah aka ThunderSub!

Will Sean get a good "orphan club" collectable necklace?  Will Dave learn how to command a submarine in a matter of seconds?  (answers No, and Yes)  All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.

30 Nov 2015Ep 77: Star Wars: Ewoks01:21:00
SMC is kicking off three weeks of Star Wars, leading up to the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens!  Our first installment is Star Wars: Ewoks.  How does a show hold up when you remove all of the fun "force" related ideas and have a cartoon that almost solely centers around the Ewoks? (and has the WORST theme song ever?)   We get into it this week on Saturday Mourning Cartoons.  May the force be with you!
07 Dec 2015Ep 78: Star Wars: The Clone Wars01:14:59
Dave heads to Kamino to pick up the latest batch of clones; Sean and returning guests Tony Lazzeroni and Mike Visser.  That's right!  Week two and we're getting into Star Wars: The Clone Wars.   Not to be confused with the Genndy Tartakovsky series called Clone Wars.  (yup, not confusing at all)  We're examining an episode with Anakin Skywalkers padawan named Ahsoka Tano.  Grab your lightsaber and padawan braid as we Force Jump into Star Wars: The Clone Wars!  May the Force Be with You!
14 Dec 2015Ep 79: Star Wars: Rebels01:13:02
This is SMC's FINAL week of our journey to a galaxy far far away!  This week we're Force jumping into Star Wars: Rebels with Darth Max Nicholson from IGN, MTV, and Collider.com.  The show is set after episode III and five years before episode IV A New Hope begins.  If the design of the show feels a little different (very thin lightsabers and Zeb sort of resembles a Wookie), then it's because they used Ralph McQuarrie's original concept art that was developed back in the 70's.    Enjoy our final week of Star Wars cartoons and enjoy the premiere this week of Star Wars: The Force Awakens!  May the Force be with you!
21 Dec 2015Ep 80: Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer01:35:44
Classic Christmas Cartoon time!  Sean and Dave are joined by Lura Barber for some 100% pure Christmas magic with Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.  Do Bumbles bounce?  Does this show have an outrageous message of sexism?  The answer to both questions is Yes.  We re-watch this Rankin Bass classic and really dissect it as 30 year olds and ooooof; it's a crazy journey. We hope you enjoy the holiday season and definitely re-watch this classic for yourself!
28 Dec 2015Ep 81: Jack Frost01:27:43
Sean and Dave are joined by our friend Joe Gallo to close out this year with the Rankin/Bass Christmas special, "Jack Frost."  Who's that nipping at your nose?  Is it 40 minutes of exposition and introductions to characters that are immediately tossed away? Or is it the criminally bad songs in this show that really got the three of us ready for the holidays?  You decide!  (Hint: D) all of the above.) "Jack Frost" is an innocent glimpse into what happens when you allow an immortal sprite to become human and then give him a series of unobtainable tasks.   This is our last episode for the year!  Have a happy holiday and safe New Year from everyone at SMC!  See you in 2016!
04 Jan 2016Ep 82: KaBlam!01:15:55
Hey there KaBlamoids!  Did you have a good NYE?!  We hope so because it's Dave and Sean's favorite time of the year; NEW YEAR'S NICKTOONS.  This is the second installment and we can't wait to dig into these cartoon classics, starting off with KaBlam!  Part variety show, part comic book, and all crazy town.  KaBlam! brought us such classics as; Action League Now!, Bob and Prometheus, Life with Loopy, and Sniz and Fondue!  Buckle up, for a KaBlamie time.
11 Jan 2016Ep 83: Hey Arnold!01:32:36
Move it, FOOTBALL HEAD!  Sean and Dave are continuing their second week of our New Year's Nicktoons series with Hey Arnold!.  The episode that we watch this week is a little bit of a departure from the normal series and should have been the series finale.  We watched the 5th season episode "The Journal" that talks about Arnold's parents and the story of how he was born.  It's touching, a little sad, and will leave you with 100 questions!  So, kick back on your stoop and relax with this weeks episode of Hey Arnold!
18 Jan 2016Ep 84: The Angry Beavers01:13:25
It never seems that Norbert and Daggett ever really get, truthfully, "angry" in a show that includes the word in the title.  It's really not more than childish behavior and/or a slap fight; standing sibling rivalry.  Dave and Sean build a damn dam in week three of our ongoing New Year's Nicktoons saga with "The Angry Beavers."  We landed on an episode that placed Norb and Dag into a B horror film with Oxnard Montalvo (the beaver's hero) and a cast that includes a Toluca Lake, Man Servante, and all of the monsters from the evil of Dark Pool that you can imagine!  Buckle up and let your imaginations run wild and try not to let your brains get snatched by an object from another dimension that feed on the very fabric of time and space!
25 Jan 2016Ep 85: CatDog01:08:17
We are wrapping up the second installment of our month long New Year's Nicktoons with CatDog.  Do you like Cats?  Do you like Dogs?  Do you like David Cronenberg style body horror?  Then get ready for CatDog!  I'm not even sure where to go with this one.  Both Sean and Dave had a difficult time watching two things that are awesome independently (cats and dogs), yet are horrible when fused together at the waist.  Double oy.
01 Feb 2016Ep 86: Ultimate Spiderman with Deadpool01:03:38
This week Sean and Dave have invited Allison Keene and Melanie Harker to watch an episode of Ultimate Spider-Man where Deadpool guest stars.  How many times will the show Ultimate Spider-man break the 4th wall?  How many times will Spider-man and Deadpool avoid using "the k-word?"  How many chimichangas will we serve over the course of this episode?  (hint: a lot!)  Get ready to delve into the world of "the merc with a mouth" and get excited as Ryan Reynolds continues to make fun of his previous super hero attempts on the big screen!
08 Feb 2016Ep 87: Static Shock01:18:43
We're continuing our February super hero theme month with Static Shock.  Dave was down and out with the "sickness" (probably a Zombie or the Disturbed song), so Jamal Newman and Melanie Harker join Sean.  Sean had no idea that Static was based on a comic book character, Jamal laments that he was a baby in the 90's, and Melanie asserts that she's a renown expert on time travel.  Surprisingly, we picked a very emotional episode of this series where the writers did an amazing job showing our heroes vulnerable side through the flashback of Static losing his mother.  Things take a twist when that flashback become reality and Static gets his wish to see his mom again when he meets a "Bang Baby" with the power to control time.  Does Static change the past?  By interacting with the past, does it change the future outcome?  Is time travel in a cartoon really confusing?  (Yup, it's super confusing)  All of this and more on this weeks SMC featuring Static Shock!
15 Feb 2016Ep 88: Zoids01:10:42
Thankfully, we live in a world where Zoid battles have been regulated.  At SMC we can't even begin to believe a world where Zoids aren't regulated, which is why we've brought back Jamal Newman to discuss proper upkeep and maintenance.  Zoids is about a young hot head pilot, named Bit Cloud, who pilots a special Zoid named Liger Zero.  What's the relationship between man and machine?  Should the Blitz Team change the name of these team to something cute and adorable? And why is the character Jamie about as useful as an alarm clock?  All of this and more when we discuss Zoids!
22 Feb 2016Ep 89: Justice League Unlimited01:28:39
The SMC crew is moving "faster than a speeding bullet" out of our superhero month with one of our favorites; Justice League Unlimited.  The sheer size of the show just makes everything feel so epic in scale and we watched the final two episodes of the series which proves to us that this is an amazing cartoon.  Loads of heroes, tons of villains, a team up between heroes and villains to battle a mutual foe?  We watched the episodes "Alive" and "Destroyer" and were gleefully excited at how well everything still holds up today.  Put on your spandex and everyone "assemble" for the Justice League Unlimited.   Join us next week as we launch into Pocket Monster Month!
29 Feb 2016Ep 90: Yu-gi-oh! vs Bakugan Battle Brawlers01:24:06
Get ready for the bracketed insanity that is Pocket Monster Madness Month!  Stepping into the ring is our #1 seed, Yu-gi-oh!, versus our #8 seed, Bakugan Battle Brawlers.  Will it be the Blue Eyes White Dragon or Drago from Vestroia?  Who will triumph?  Who will collect all of the things and ask their parent for permission to buy all of the toys?  We have renowned expert Melanie Harker joining us to help us with this impossible task.   The next four weeks will be a brutal onslaught of pocket monster show versus pocket monster show.  Join us as we get into our first ever Pocket Monster Madness Month, right here at Saturday Mourning Cartoons.
07 Mar 2016Ep 91: Shaman King vs Yo-Kai Watch01:17:10
Ring that bell to start the battle because this week we have Shaman King and Yo-Kai Watch stepping into the cartoon octagon!  Shaman King is our second seed versus the new cartoon on the block, Yo-Kai Watch.  Who will emerge victorious?  Will it be Shaman King with their inability to identify a lead character who is unable to button his shirt?  Or Yo-Kai Watch where our hero Nate is enslaved by a ghost to forever have to break up this parents arguments over yogurt?   Tune in for a new knock-down-drag-out as Pocket Monster Madness Month continues on the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast!
29 Aug 2016Ep 116: Transformers: Combiner Wars01:12:04
Closing out Transformers month with the reason we even did Transformers month in the first place - Transformers: Combiner Wars.  Machinama and go90 decided to create this series that starts 40 years after the battle on Earth that started in Generation 1.  Paying homage to the past, the new series is released weekly and has created a fun and interested story with an exiled Optimus and Megatron.  Will Sean pull out all of his hair from 5 solid weeks of Transformers?  Is Dave really a Combiner?  (The answers are trick question because Sean is balding and maybe...)  It's the final episode of our Transformers month with Transformers: Combiner Wars.   This week's episode is bought to you by patience.  Patience - that thing that we all strive to have a little more of in our life.  Patience - "just relax, bro."  This is out for Saturday Mourning Cartoons Transformers months.  Next week we're joined by guest Melanie Harker to talk about Mighty Mouse for a full month of listener suggestions.  Also, don't forget to rate and review us on iTunes.  Saturday Mourning Cartoons is available for free each week on iTunes, Stitcher, Google Play, and probably any other fine purveyor of podcats.
14 Mar 2016Ep 92: Pokemon vs Beyblade01:21:16
It's the round THREE of our Pocket Monster Madness Month and the gloves are coming off!  We've got heavy weight Pokemon stepping into the ring against Beyblade, our underdog.   Who will survive this carnage?  Will you "choose" Pokemon and Ash's ability to be thwarted by the environment and his surroundings?  Or will Beyblade make the concept of battling dreidels fun and exciting?   Tune in for a new pulverizing match as Pocket Monster Madness Month continues on the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast!
21 Mar 2016Ep 93: Monster Rancher vs Magi-Nation01:17:47
It's the penultimate round of the our Pocket Monster March Madness Month and we've summoned Evan Valentine, comedian and contributor at Collider.com and Comicbook.com, to do battle with Monster Rancher and Magi-Nation!  Will it be the show where the big bad is named after the sound a cow makes?  Or will it be the the show with the absolute most vanilla main character we've ever seen, name Tony Jones?!   Evan, Dave, and Sean have strong opinions about these shows that may culminated in the lowest score we've had to date!   Find out who will win! Will it be Monster Rancher or Magi-Nation on this weeks Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast?  Listen to find out who wins this round.  PS - if you read this then you're the best!
28 Mar 2016Ep 94: Digimon vs Zatch Bell01:21:13
Ring the bell because this is the final round of our Pocket Monster March Madness Month and we're ready to throw in the towel!  Who will be victorious?  Will it be the contender who guilts us into dealing with environmental issues only to abandon that ideal immediately?  Or will it be the demon pinocchio who shoots lightening from his face?  Digimon or Zatch Bell?!  We're bringing in friend and guest Tony Lazzeroni to help us settle is month long dispute!   Join us as we come to the conclusion of this month long 'bout on the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast!
04 Apr 2016Ep 95: Ultimate Muscle01:05:21
Are you concerned about Millions of Unusual Small Creatures Lurking Everywhere?  Do you have a shoebox full of small pink rubber men from the mid 80's in your garage?  Did you ever wonder where this franchise originated from and how it got to the USA?  The answer is the cartoon show Ultimate Muscle.  Originating in Japan as a parody of superhero shows/manga, Ultimate Muscle was a hit but only the toys made their way to the US in the 80's.  In 2002, a second generation of Ultimate Muscle aired for 51 episodes on Fox Box.   Listen this week as Sean and Dave have tag teamed jumped off a turn buckle with an atomic knee and into the show - Ultimate Muscle!
11 Apr 2016Ep 96: Zoids Chaotic Century01:14:45
You called us dummies for not watching Zoids: Chaotic Century and we listened!  This week we took another user submission from Facebook and we were honestly a little hesitant after our previous foray into Zoids New Century.  Chaotic Century was a great mix of intriguing plot points and familiar liger zoids.  The pilot for Chaotic Century hit all the major beats to make for not only a great pilot episode but also an incredible finale.
18 Apr 2016Ep 97: Jojo's Bizarre Adventure01:05:42
This week, DaveStar and SeanStar are having some adventures.  What kind of adventures; adventures that are completely bizarre.  We're watching Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and at some point, SeanStar's brain leaks out of his ear because this show is fantastic and also completely insane.  One thing we've been able to ascertain is that Dio Brando is the worst "human" on the planet.  Dio is all about two things that Sean and Dave hate, which is stealing kisses and knee kicking dogs.  Dave gets a little preview of the next chapter of Jojo's adventure which has convinced us both to continue watching this bizarre adventure!  Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is another listener request!  Thank you all for listening and please subscribe on iTunes and Stitcher.  Also, check us out on Facebook - www.facebook.com/SaturdayMourningCartoons
25 Apr 2016Ep 98: Cowboy Bebop01:09:16
Buckle your Seatbelts because we're about to blow this scene.  This week Sean and Dave are joined by the wonderful Allison Keene from Collider.com to discuss Cowboy Bebop.  This show holds a special place in the guys hearts and for Allison, it was a show that she eventually grew to love.  Boasting an amazing soundtrack from Yoko Kanno, jazz music and sense of noir are woven into the entire fabric of this show.  We jumped back to examine four episodes that we believe do an amazing job of conveying the relationships and style of this show.     3, 2, 1 let's jam, only on Saturday Mourning Cartoons!
02 May 2016Ep 99: Batman The Animated Series01:28:56
"I am vengeance, I am the night, I am Batman," is one of the few inspiration lines that inspired this very podcast.  To say that Batman The Animated Series is a seminal piece of animated is an understatement as this inspired so many cartoons.  The grit, noir feel, orchestral music, and amazing voice acting make this show something that Sean and Dave use to judge just about every cartoon we watch.  Join us as we recap the episodes "Deep Freeze" and "On leather wings" and delve into the show that inspired us to launch this podcast.
25 Jun 2016Interview with Neil Kaplan00:39:09
Special bonus episode?!  Sean, Dave, and Max Nicholson get to speak with voice actor Neil Kaplan who recently voiced King Zarkon from 'Voltron Legendary Defender.'  Cartoon royalty?  Indeed.  Now if I could only find that Bayard that I misplaced...
04 Sep 2017Ep 169: The Raccoons01:15:11

The SMC crew is heading to the great white north this month!  That's right, we are heading to Canada for all of our cartoons this month, and kicking it off with The Raccoons. Want a cartoon that dabbles with environmentalism and then doesn't deliver?  Also, has aardvarks with crooked noses?  Head up to Canada and check out The Raccoons.

Will Sean get a printing press and start his own zine?  Will Dave get rhinoplasty to look like an aardvark?  (answers yes, and probably)   All of this and more on this week's episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast.

16 May 2020'She-Ra' Season 5 Spoilers Discussion with Noelle Stevenson00:12:55

If you haven't caught up with the latest (and final) season of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power on Netflix, you might want to do so before listening to our latest chat with showrunner Noelle Stevenson. We recently brought you a Season 5 interview with Stevenson to tease the adventures of Adora & co. in this final batch of episodes, along with high praise for star Keston John as the many voices of The Horde. But now, in our continuing series of interviews through our animation-focused podcast Saturday Mourning Cartoons, we chat with Stevenson one last time to break down spoilers from the excellent and emotionally satisfying Season 5.

In this all-too-brief conversation, Stevenson talked about the very special tattoo that she and members of the crew got as a memento of their time on the show and what it means within the lore of She-Ra. We also discussed the many complicated relationships between the characters, be they parent-child dynamics, teacher-student pairings, or romantic entanglements. There's a lot of emotional payoff at the end of She-Ra, something that all five seasons have been building towards, but the crowning achievement of all of this strife and drama is the final resolution for CatrAdora, which plays out beautifully in the finale. Stevenson addresses all of that and more, so we invite you to listen and read along!

25 Apr 2020Ep. 271: 'MEGAS XLR' Review | Saturday Mourning Cartoons01:00:42

We're revisiting 'MEGAS XLR', an early 2000s animated mecha series created by Jody Schaeffer and George Krstic. The action-packed animation on this comedy show that takes aim at all kinds of anime trope came courtesy of Cartoon Network Studios, Titmouse animation, and Sunmin Image Pictures. And why are we doing this to ourselves? Well, one, because it's actually a really funny and well-done series, but also because a listener called in to recommend it; our cartoon lawyers say we're legally obligated to cover it. Just happy it's a good toon this time!

05 Sep 2020Ep. 285: 'Defenders of the Earth' Review01:12:22

If you want to see a bunch of powerful comic book superheroes team up to fend off extraterrestrial threats to our home planet, there's no better place to look than Marvel's Avengers Defenders of the Earth! This 1986 animated series from King Features, with development by Marvel and production from a trio of overseas studios including Toei Animation, united the bigger-than-life heroes of King Features Syndicate. Flash Gordon, Phantom, Mandrake the Magician, and Lothar joined forces to defend Earth (hence the name) from the villainous intents of Ming the Merciless. Helping to fight back for the fate of their planet were the second generation of heroes, including Rick Gordon, Jedda Walker, the adopted son Kshin and his space-alien pet Zuffy, and Lothar "L.J." Junior.

While these characters might not be the first that come to mind when thinking about comic book superheroes, they're definitely classics for a reason. We're coming up on their 100th anniversary -- a pretty monumental task for any character, really -- so what better way to celebrate than by watching Defenders of the Earth? Unfortunately, some of the backwards tropes -- racist, misogynist, every other -ist -- is part of the package here. Is it bad enough to dip, or just enough to force us into tough conversations? Tune in to find out! (And big thanks to @MrJake for the listener recommendation!)

08 Feb 2020'A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon' Directors on Aardman's Latest Adventure00:23:14

In the latest Saturday Mourning Cartoons interview, we chat with Will Becher and Richard Phelan, the directors of Aardman Animation's 'A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon.' The duo talked about their experience in the animation industry and how it led them to direct this franchise's space-faring sequel, which is absolutely packed full of Easter eggs and nods to classic sci-fi titles. They also revealed how the creation of Lu-La came about, her early designs that didn't make the final cut, the challenge of designing a spaceship in stop-motion animation, and how the cast communicated the story without any spoken dialogue. Plus, they tease what's up next for Aardman, including more of Shaun the Sheep and 'Chicken Run 2.'
