19 Nov 2021 | Your Team’s Success Relies on You | 00:49:06
As a Salon Owner, finding great team members always feels like a priority.
The problem is that it can feel tricky to find the right person, let alone ensure that person actually sticks around and becomes a superstar team member for the long run.
This is why, I believe, looking after your team and building a winning team culture should be as much of a priority as hiring in the first place. You simply can’t expect everyone you hire to be the jack of all trades... and if you want to, you need to offer them more than just a great hourly wage.
Put yourself in the shoes of your team. What do they get out of being your employee?
It can sometimes feel like employees are here for a good time, not a long time. But rest assured: that doesn’t have to be the case. Take it from me. When I had my Salon, I had employees that were with me for 15 & 18 years… and even had people outlive me in my salon!
The secret? Supporting my team to be the best they can be for themselves.
This is why I am so excited to introduce you to Angela Lauria. Angela is an absolute master when it comes to hiring people who will support your vision and stick with you through the years to come.
Angela is the successful author of “Make em Beg to Work For You”, the perfect read for you if you’re looking to better optimise your Salon’s hiring process and be a better motivator for your team.
In this episode, Angela will be revealing some of her award-winning secrets, showing you how to build a team that supports the endgame of your Salon.

29 Jun 2024 | The Secret to Rebooking Clients | 00:32:51
“Clients are spending less (or not coming at all) and the clients that do come… never rebook!”
Have you ever looked at your team's column and it’s empty but then suddenly, almost overnight, they’re fully booked? It feels like those ‘Last Minute Appointment’ Instagram stories are the only thing bringing clients through the door.
But… what if told you that clients not rebooking isn’t completely your teams fault?
As Salon Owners we need to pay attention to the changing trends of our clients and adapt of booking systems to suit. I mean… we can’t have a Salon without clients coming through the door which is why it’s up to us to make a change.
Clients are still rebooking appointments and many of them, are still willing to spend a little extra too on products or upgrades!
In today’s episode of the Salon Owners Collective Podcast, I’m chatting with Shortcuts co-founder Jo Burgess about why it feels like clients aren’t rebooking… and what to do about it!
Here is The Secret to Rebooking Clients.

Tired of feeling like you’re working so hard on your Salon business… with little to no reward?
You’re constantly hustling, but you never feel satisfied.
Maybe you spend every waking moment thinking about your Salon, and how to “make things better”. You’re always looking towards the next goalpost, but not actually enjoying the present moment. Who’s guilty?

Think of it as some essential self-care, a time to think about YOU and put actions into place to bring you more happiness in your life… rather than burnout.

All I have to write is 1 word… and you’ll instantly know what I'm talking about.
That’s right: Team.
There’s a team crisis! And I hear so many Salon Owners saying how things have changed in recent years, especially when it comes to this issue.
Now don’t get me wrong, things are forever changing in our industry...
But did you know: even when I owned my Salon years ago, people were saying the same thing.

03 Oct 2023 | The Importance of Mission and Vision for Salon Team Culture | 00:22:19
One thing I’ve noticed working with Salon Owners is that a lot of them will tell me that they don’t have a mission or vision for their business. But it’s not that they don’t have a mission and a vision - of course they do. Because if you have a business then of course you have a why. And your why is essentially your mission and vision! Why you’re here, doing this thing. So when Salon Owners tell me that they don’t have a mission or a vision what they really mean is they don’t have a DEFINED mission and vision that they can communicate to their team. It’s so important to have this because your mission and vision not only create unity within your team…but also give your team members a glimpse into the future. And like I always say - team members leave when they can’t see a future with you. But how do you get your team to connect with YOUR vision? How do you make YOUR vision relevant to them? In this episode of The Salon Owners Collective Podcast I reveal the fundamentals of how to define and communicate your mission and vision and how to use team workshops to involve your team in setting the values that will be critical to living that mission and realising that vision. 06 Dec 2022 | 3 Secrets to Increasing Your Team’s Sales Performance | 00:27:32
The biggest mistake you can make as a Salon Owner is to assume your team knows how to sell.
After all, they are trained to do hair or beauty, right? Not how to be a salesperson and actually they often don’t want to be a salesperson.
So even when you have clients coming through the door, and you have a full team of stylists, you aren’t seeing the growth you had hoped for… and as the Salon Owner, you end up with the most sales, consistently rebooking clients, and keeping the business afloat.
But if all the pressure to make the most relies on you, the owner, what happens when you want to get free from clients for one moment to work ON their business?! You end up losing more than it’s worth and you’re stuck on the floor 60 hours a week, busier than ever.
This doesn’t have to be the case. You can move off the floor, work less hours with clients, and STILL see growth in your business!
I want to introduce you to my amazing Salon Mastery & Momentum Success Coach, Amy Osmer. Amy has years of experience working in Salons, managing large teams, and working behind the scenes of large format salon groups within the Hair & Beauty industry.
Amy is an expert in helping owners increase their Salon’s Sales and leading their teams to succeed so that they can stop the “60-hours-on-the-floor”, weekly grind.
In this episode, Amy and I are going to share our top 3 strategies for getting your team to make more, without you having to work more and add more to your plate…in fact, after this episode, you will be able to see how to work LESS in your business, and still see your sales skyrocket!
After implementing these strategies, our Salon Mastery & Momentum Program Owners have grown their weekly sales, while reducing their weekly hours on the floor….we just celebrated end-of-year awards with some having 66% growth in 12 months.

13 Dec 2020 | How to Rid Your Salon of Toxic Team Members | 00:30:11
I want to talk about how to rid yourself of toxic team members. Especially as we enter a new year, we have this opportunity to turn the page and start a new chapter, write our own endings. And sometimes we need to face up to some of the challenges that we have, that are stopping us from our growth and being the best that we possibly can. I really want to talk about this problem, because as I started to look back throughout 2020, this one came up a lot - challenging team members that are keeping us awake, team members that are ultimately destroying the Salon culture, and eroding trust within the team relationships. Actually, if we're not careful, it also affects our client retention, and even team retention. It's an issue mostly because one, we don't recognise it. And two, we don't quite know what to do about it. It's one of those hard conversations that we had to have to have with ourselves to face up and deal with those challenging people. So, let’s dive into this episode and I’ll share my opinions on the matter.

29 Mar 2023 | Achieving a Work/Life Balance Without Sacrificing Income | 00:37:55
For many Salon Owners, running a Salon is like having a baby that constantly needs feeding and nurturing.
But how great would it be to have a solution to keeping your business alive, without it being centred all around YOU?! Without YOU being the one that has to ‘nurse it’, ‘watch it’ and ‘be there’ 24/7.
Something that you knew could (sustainably) allow you to go from working 40 hours a week on the floor to actually spending more time with your family.
Like, genuinely have time for the things you love outside your business..
But what happens is that Salon Owners, especially women, feel this guilt and pull towards ‘doing it all’ and ‘juggling it all.’
It’s a vicious cycle, that I know all too well.
So, instead, I want to show you how you can continue to grow your business, WITHOUT being the one that is constantly doing it all…because it’s not sustainable.
I want to introduce you to Carrie Flynn, owner of Virtual Simplicity, a marketing growth company, with a focus on not just marketing strategies, but actually scaling your business without the overwhelm.
Because let’s be honest, you don’t need to add anything more to your plate! In this episode discover how to set yourself boundaries in your business, how to remove the guilt when it comes to business ownership & the art of delegation…

22 Sep 2022 | Your Salon Is Not as Irreplaceable as You Think | 00:35:01
What do you want your Salon to be known for?
Why should a client choose your Salon over the one down the road?
These are the questions you need to ask yourself if you want to stand out from the rest and ensure clients choose YOU and always return…
After all, we all BASICALLY offer the same thing, right?!
Thinking back to my early Salon days, I remember sometimes feeling like I had to do all the things and serve all the clients to ensure they had nothing short of the best experience.,After all, I had 7 salons within walking distance, so I felt like I needed to take what I could get…those clients were valuable, right!
I would spend my days putting out fires, taking on extra clients, and doing the absolute most to ensure everyone in the room was happy.
But then I realised, this isn’t sustainable. It was exhausting, overwhelming, and funnily enough, didn’t bring more clients through the door…
Janine Jarman aka the Queen of Perms, is the founder of Curl Cult, a product that has changed the technology and science behind perms. With over 20 years of experience in the industry as a hairstylist, educator, Salon Owner, and now CEO, Janine knows what it takes to create a unique product offering that people LOVE and will always purchase.
What is special about Janine’s success is that she offers a service that is not only scalable but one that solves an immediate problem for her clients. This means her service and Salon itself, are irreplaceable.
Janine is going to share with you her hot tips on how to make your Salon irreplaceable so that your clients always choose you over the one down the road.

28 Jan 2022 | Here’s What You Forgot About Client Rebooking | 00:47:44
Have you ever had a client walk into your Salon doors and then never return?
Their stylist is left feeling confused and slightly upset. A million thoughts are racing through your head. Did they not enjoy the end result of the colour, cut or style? Was it too expensive? What got missed?
In our industry, we have all had this happen before (I know I have!). It’s just something that you have to accept when running a client-based business…or is it? I want to show you a way to avoid this from happening that has nothing to do with the hair itself.
Just imagine you’re a client who has had the busiest day, work’s been hectic–or perhaps it’s been a tough day with your kids–and you come flying into your hair appointment at a new salon (that you almost forgot about). The hairdresser, who doesn’t know you, your hair, or what you like having done comes over, swings the chair around to the mirror, and starts working away.
At the end of the appointment, you leave the Salon, and whilst you may actually like what the hairdresser has done, you think to yourself that you won’t be returning any time soon.
Do you know why that may be?
I know I say this often, but as Salon Owners our job is always more than just hair.

Is posting on your Salon’s social media pages something you find super overwhelming, or better yet, often totally forget about?
You know you have to do it, but you have no idea what you are supposed to be posting, let alone if it’s actually working and bringing you the results you’re after.
This is something I see all the time. You feel way too busy doing all the things, right? There are barely enough hours to have lunch, let alone plan a social media strategy that attracts new clients and keeps existing clients coming back…

18 Apr 2024 | Beauty Bias: Is Your Salon ACTUALLY Inclusive? | 00:30:42
You are too fat to be seen here….
As an industry (and the world), we’ve made efforts to be more inclusive. Learning how to work with different hair textures and skin tones, understanding and respecting other cultures… and although we still have a way to go, there’s one area of inclusion that we’ve left behind… weight.
How would you feel if one of your therapists, said this to a client? What sort of culture do you have in your Salon where your team thinks it's okay to say that to someone? Their comments might not be that obvious, by prejudiced comments around weight get made every single day, in just about every Salon.
Inclusion and diversity workshops and training sessions aren’t really the norm. But it’s time we start having those conversations with our team so that every client feels welcomed.
I wanted to share with you the importance of inclusion and diversity in your Salon and how you can have those important conversations with your team.
In today’s episode, I’m chatting to Sky McLaughlin from Larger Luxury to talk about the Beauty Bias: Is Your Salon ACTUALLY Inclusive? Here is why you should listen to the full episode:

03 Aug 2023 | Unpopular Opinion: Salon Owners Should Give Staff Flexible Working Hours | 00:30:25
"Those Millennials and Gen Zs - they just don’t want to work" I’m you’ve either heard this or even thought this yourself as a Salon Owner. There is a significant shift happening in the hair and beauty industry - we call it, the lifestyle effect. It's a phenomenon where the next generation of hair stylists and beauty therapist are saying NO to late nights and Saturdays and basically demanding more lifestyle-friendly working environments. And while it might seem like kids these days have gone soft - the reality is that this phenomenon is actually a product of a society-wide shift. And there are several factors driving this shift - from the cost of living - to the impact of new technologies over the past decade and of course, the global pandemic. I know what you’re thinking; how can Salons compete with offering work from home and Saturdays off - it’s just not realistic. Well, you can and you need to - and we’re going to tell you how. In this episode of The Salon Owners Collective Podcast we’re going to take a deep dive into that shift AND reveal the 7 steps to navigating the new generation of the Salon Workspace and implementing a more flexible and lifestyle friendly Salon. It CAN work in your Salon and in fact, it needs to - this shift is happening whether you like it or not and if you don’t pivot, and move with the times then you will be left behind. 27 Apr 2024 | How to Beat the Hiring Crisis | 00:45:22
You recruit average, you get average!
That makes sense, right? But as an industry, we still post the same ‘We’re Hiring’ ad and hope that our next rockstar stylist or therapist is going to see it and walk through the door! But, we’re always surprised when nobody ever responds and we immediately jump to the idea of ‘we’re in a hiring crisis!’.
But what if I told you that this isn’t entirely true… Salon Owners are growing their teams, some are even getting 50+ applicants per job ad! You just need to ELEVATE the way you recruit. Times have changed and saying ‘We’re Hiring’ isn’t enough anymore to recruit Gen Z and beyond…
You need to be shouting from the rooftops that you’re looking for your next rockstar! Because if you don't, who will?
In today’s episode on the Salon Owners Collective Podcast, I’m sharing with you a LIVE Event I hosted in my Profitable & Successful Salon Owners Facebook group… here is, How to Beat the Hiring Crisis.

09 Mar 2022 | Legal Action: Two Words Every Salon Owner Dreads | 00:33:16
Have you ever had a client threaten legal action against you and your Salon?
As a Salon Owner, I’m sure you have had had a moment (if not, a few) where you have had to deal with a situation that has gone wrong, like a really bad colouring mistake, and in return had to deal with an unhappy (and frustrated!) client.
Something has gone wrong in the Salon; the service didn’t meet the expectations of the client and you are left to clean up the mess that has been left behind. Sometimes this may mean dealing with further legal action….Eeek!!
Unfortunately, that is just what happens when we work in a service-based, client-based industry, or is it?
Things are going to go wrong, humans are going to make mistakes, but it’s how we overcome these moments where things have gone terribly wrong, and have things in place to prevent them from ever happening again in the future.
I want you to always be prepared for the worst-case scenario, the “what ifs”, because it may be the thing that saves your Salon. We need to keep ourselves and our Salons protected from anything that may happen in the future.
So, this is why I want to introduce you to Reonna Green, a hairstylist turned Lawyer living in the United States - how inspiring is that? Reonna is the founder of “She Trademarks” - an attorney that specialises in the beauty and hair world, I take my hat off to her for this!
Because Reonna is so specialised in our industry (there seriously aren’t many hairstylists/ attorneys!) then I know you will soak up everything she has to say on how to protect your Salon when things really turn to sh*t.
So keep listening to this episode and hear what she has to say….

01 Mar 2022 | The Secret to Unlocking More Time as a CEO | 00:31:12
Do you always feel like you have a never-ending to-do list?
Like nothing seems to get checked off, and as soon as that alarm goes off in the morning, you feel like you are already behind before your day has even begun?
Then, when your day does begin and you start ticking the things off that you want to get done, someone needs your help with a consultation, a client, or to run and pick the kids up from school, and then your list of priorities gets totally reshuffled.
You often find yourself lying awake at night, going through ALL the things you didn’t get done, instead of focusing on the wins of the day. You’re left feeling overwhelmed, stressed, and always behind with your business.
This is a feeling I know ALL too well. It is why I started becoming a Salon Business Coach, because I see it far too often. As a Salon Owner, you end up wearing too many hats and not having enough time to do ‘all the things’…in your business, with your team, with your family and god forbid you have ANY time leftover for you!
So, that is why I want to introduce you to the ever-so-lovely, Mridu Parikh.
Mridu is the founder of Life is Organised, a company that helps female business owners know exactly what they need to do to become more organised. Mridu is also a business coach, as well as a mum to her two babies!
She has almost the exact same career journey as mine, so I knew that what she had to say about helping business owners with balancing overwhelm and stress, with all your demands and distractions (with your team at work and your team at home), would be a valuable listen for you!
I know the advice that Mridu has on this topic will leave you with strategies to make your business and life more productive… so keep listening to hear what she has to say!

Sick of hearing your team say “same again jane?” with EVERY client?
The client just gets the bare minimum, and your team doesn’t think to take things further… The client only gets what they booked in for, not really actually NEED or what they didnt know, they always wanted
As a result:
And then they come to you, asking for a pay rise……. OMG, don’t they get it?! I know how frustrating this can be, and it’s a challenge so many salon owners face. But I believe owners actually make 1 mistake when it comes to leading their team to make sales. 09 Mar 2021 | Engaging Clients During a Global Pandemic | 00:18:52
I think the most accurate word to describe the past year in our industry has been: unpredictable. With the global pandemic rocking Hair & Beauty Salons across the globe, and most closing their doors at one point or another, it’s important to remember that we always need to be prepared for anything. And a huge aspect of that, which I saw many Salon Owners struggle with in lockdown especially, was keeping their clients engaged.
Hair & beauty professionals strive in that 1:1, client-facing environments, so when we were stripped of this ability… it was scary, to say the least! That’s why today, I’m chatting with Dani Everson. Dani is a Salon Owner & Skin Entrepreneur who specializes in super creative & popular ways of engaging her clients; during the Pandemic, but also in everyday life. Tune in today to hear Dani’s best advice on engaging clients and how to keep clients loyal to your Salon business.

16 Dec 2021 | Reflecting on 2021: The Year the Salon Industry Changed Forever | 01:00:46
Last year, you thought you had seen it all.
You headed into 2021 hopeful, excited for a fresh start and to achieve big plans that had been put on hold. Salons started to reopen and we saw clients coming back through our doors. It felt like everything was slowly returning to normal.
However, we were in for a rude awakening! I think we all came to realise that our old “normal” was no longer. COVID is still lurking, and we had to start adjusting to this “new normal”. Even now, Salons across the world are still experiencing lockdowns and restrictions around vaccinations, and not knowing when it will end… or if it ever will! Will we ever get used to this constant feeling of limbo?
As a Salon Owner, you have had to get creative in finding new ways to generate income in 2021. Unsurprisingly, team was (and still is) a huge focus throughout the past year. I don’t think this will ever change in our industry.
It has been stressful, to say the least. But now things are starting to look up! Whilst we are facing new challenges when it comes to vaccination guidelines, we have at least turned a corner.
In saying this, I want to take this opportunity to reflect on the most popular and most downloaded podcast episodes of 2021… and I know you’ll find them super valuable, so you can head into 2022 with confidence and direction!
Let’s move forward into a new year, ready to have consistent business and clients (fingers crossed!) and focus on growing our Salons to be the best they can be!

We want to feel confident as the leader, and know how and when to have those hard conversations whilst also being able to have fun with your team.
But nobody tells you how to do it all, how to be the ‘fun’ boss whilst also being the boss that gets stuff done so wages can be paid and clients are happy - for a lot of Salon Owners, it’s something we just have to learn on the job…
But, it doesn’t have to be that hard.
You can do it all! You can know how to have those conversations we all avoid and have clear meetings with your team whilst also still having fun at the same time.
You just need to act like you're driving a speed boat, where every conversation, meeting, or book you read can change the path of the boat for the better…

I’m sure Sustainability is something you’ve heard a lot about in recent years. Whether you’re completely in support of this movement, or you aren’t fully ‘in the know’, one thing that’s undeniable is the rise of the sustainability cause and sustainable salons in our industry.
But I know there’s one question that many Salon Owners ask themselves when they hear this:
What’s the cost? I know it can feel scary to spend more on companies and providers whose sustainable products & values mean more expenses for you or your clients. So today, i’m chatting with Sustainable Salons founder Paul Frasca. We’ll talk all things sustainability, supporting local, and looking into the future of not only our industry… but the whole world. Paul believes that it’s time for our industry to get out of the dark ages and start looking into the future…

23 Nov 2022 | Can Your Salon Really Grow by 100k Next Year? | 00:25:58
Want to know how 18 Salon Owners grew their income by $100k a year?
I’ll give you one clue, it ends with ditching the hustle culture!
Yes, I know it well.
As a Salon Owner, there’s an immense amount of pressure to ensure the business is profitable and is bringing money in through the door. You want to provide a completely personalized experience for every single client that visits your salon….. And this is more than just the hair service itself, right owners?!
… it’s everything from the way your team presents themselves, to the atmosphere, the pricing, the post-service check-in, the booking experience, the retail products…ahhh the list goes on!
You end up feeling like, in order to MAKE more, you keep having to DO more, and BE more…like you’re on a neverending hamster wheel. You’re grinding 24/7 to bring money in the door, but you’re not seeing the results…
Do you know why?
The reason is that…. “doing more” doesn’t actually make you any more successful, or profitable… instead, it can do the exact opposite! It means you end up burned out, overwhelmed, and stuck inside your business.
So, instead of doing ALL the things, you actually only need to focus on 4 things in order to make more.
That’s right, I said it. There are only 4 things you need to focus on right now, to grow your Salon by $100k a YEAR.
I’m going to share with you what those 4 strategies are, so you can implement them within your Salon and grow your business income by $100k in the next year.
It’s possible, TRUST ME, I currently have 18 members inside my Salon Mastery Coaching Program that have hit the 100k Growth Club since joining the program… all by doing these 4 things.
So if you are interested in hearing about the strategies I teach these Salon Owners inside Salon Mastery, then keep listening….

08 Sep 2021 | Is Bad Health the Barrier to Your Success? | 00:30:47
I’m sure you hear about this particular topic a LOT… It’s definitely something which circulates often, especially amongst busy business owners like you and I, who have a lot on their plate. But surprisingly, despite this, there are very few Salon Owners that I actually see making a change. That’s right, I'm talking about Health. When it comes to your health… there are way too many Salon Owners that push this aside- don’t prioritise it. ...Are you guilty? Skipped lunch breaks, not enough water, bent over behind a Salon chair or office desk all day… I've done it. But eventually, these bad habits will catch up to you. That’s why I’ve invited Ben Warren, clinical nutritionist and founder of the wellness company ‘Be Pure’, to join me today. We’ll chat about common mistakes that busy Salon Owners make when it comes to their health, simple hacks to live a healthier life, and why bad health could be the barrier to your success. This discovery has been a game-changer for me, personally, so I know you will love what Ben has to say.

23 Mar 2022 | The Female Entrepreneur’s Guide to Salon Marketing | 00:37:14
You probably know the saying of throwing spaghetti at a wall and hoping it will stick. Well, are you guilty of doing the same with your marketing strategy?
In a crowded industry, failing to create a marketing strategy and a strong Salon brand could be the thing that is holding your business back from growing into a million-dollar Salon.
You know you need to do it, but the actual doing part isn’t as easy as it looks, right? After all, you are busy enough putting out fires within your team, dealing with clients, your own family, and global pandemics, where do you have the time to create a marketing strategy?
This is something I hear all the time from Salon Owners, and did you know…
Throwing offers and promotions across your Social Media channels without considering whether it’ll resonate with your ideal client and what outcome you want to achieve will only create a marketing message that seems inconsistent and confused…it is not going to give you the results you want…so hold fire on “posting” that 20% “off” offer for now!
What you need is this one secret strategy that will teach you how to grow your business by attracting the right clients to your Salon….
That’s why I want to introduce you to Taylor Rae. Taylor is a one-of-a-kind business coach living in Melbourne, who specialises in strategies ranging from client attraction to manifestation. Taylor works with women all over the world to implement marketing strategies that they need to propel their businesses forward and truly build the salon of their dreams.
I know Taylor’s advice about client attraction and marketing will be invaluable for your business.
Let’s dive into the episode.

30 Mar 2022 | Does Salon Marketing Actually Work? | 00:34:06
What if I told you that in order to scale your Salon business Growth, you need to nail these three things:
An effective marketing strategy, understanding your clients, and growing a team.
I see so many Salon Owners start to grow exponentially, but then all of a sudden hit a plateau. They can’t seem to move the needle in their business or have the momentum to keep this growth sustainable, especially with team challenges, family time and life outside of the Salon walls…
It can feel totally overwhelming, like you are in a business rut!
However, I believe that with an effective and consistent marketing strategy, and an understanding of what makes your clients tick, you can truly master the art of attracting and retaining clients in your Salon.
I know this is never as easy as it sounds. But if you can nail your client-attraction strategy, understand what makes your clients return (or not), and how to keep new clients coming in your doors without you stepping foot into your Salon doors…your Salon growth will be unstoppable.
This is something I knew I had to get my friend (and highly respected marketing whizz) Danny Tran on the podcast to speak about. Danny knows the latest and greatest about all things business, marketing, and attracting clients to your business.
Danny is the founder and CEO of High Stroke Media, which specialises in creating marketing and brand strategies for makeup artists all over the world (so, right up our alley!). His advice is tailored to the beauty and hair industry, so I know you will take away some amazing tips to use in the Salon, tomorrow!
So without further ado, let’s meet Danny.

01 Mar 2023 | 3 Steps to Build a Sales Culture in Your Salon | 00:24:19
Every Salon Owner dreams of having an amazing team culture:
But all it takes is one bad apple on your team to ruin the whole apple cart… right?! You know the one. They’re sitting out the back of the Salon, twiddling their thumbs when there are clients that need serving, they’re not hitting their targets, and it feels like an uphill battle trying to get them to do anything…. It’s causing the salon environment to flip upside down, things can become toxic, and not only are they not performing, but this starts to affect the rest of the team’s performance. Like, all we want is a team that is smashing targets, for clients to receive a 10/10 service, and to feel confident that everyone is motivated and happy. Having a culture like this reminds you why you love this industry so much. I call this building culture of #winning in your salon. But actually, what’s important to remember is that a winning culture is not something that just ‘happens’ one day, and then ‘that’s it’… …instead, your Salon's culture is forever changing and evolving. So the focus needs to be on keeping it positive, 95% of the time, each and every day. To do this, you need systems in your business that are ‘human’ proof so that your team is set up for success, regardless of the individuals within it. So what are those systems? How can you make this happen in YOUR salon? In this episode, you will find out exactly how to build a positive, motivating Salon culture that works even when you aren’t in Salon 24/7. 28 Dec 2023 | 3 Things Salon Owners Should Be Focussed on in 2024 | 00:29:32
Our team is leaving to go solo, profits are dropping, and we’ve hit the limit with pricing. We heard this a lot in 2023.
But remember, opportunity always comes out of crisis - and we’ve been through a lot as an industry (and the world) over the past few years.
2024 is a new chapter and a new opportunity for us to grow our Salon and make a killing in the industry.
You can have an incredible team, and great clients, get paid well, and do what you love, all whilst not overworking…
Although in this new chapter, a lot is changing, it doesn’t need to be a challenge - it’s an opportunity.
We just need to focus on what we can control.
Today on The Salon Owners Collective Podcast, Larissa chats about the 3 things all Salon Owners should be focussed on in 2024 - you may even join the $1 Million Salon Club (or $2 million, or even $5 million!).

10 Nov 2020 | The Secret to Pricing Your Services Right | 00:59:08
Your clients want to know, like and trust you. And what that all comes down to is your area of expertise and what you can do for them… that’s what clients care about, after all!
And a huge part of that is your pricing. I think too often Salons are afraid to put their prices up, or feel nervous when it comes to establishing a pricing structure, because they’re scared of what their clients will say, or what people will think. But when it comes down to it, if your expertise is clearly established and you’re known as the best at what you do… then it should be worth what you’re charging! And the right clients will recognise that. In this episode, I am once again the guest not the host for once! I’m interviewed by the lovely Kristina from the Colour Kristina Talks Podcast, where I am chatting all about how to price your salon services. When it comes to pricing, it’s all about believing in your own value and knowing how to charge for the skills of you & your team with a clear pricing strategy, that’ll lead to success.

24 Aug 2024 | When Is the Right Time to Hire a New Team Member? | 00:21:17
If your Salon hits a growth ceiling… It's because of you!
Clients are coming in, your team is busy, you’re finally profitable but you’re not sure if you should jump and recruit a new team member before you need it. If you recruit team members too early, your growth might slow down and suddenly you can’t afford to pay them OR you recruit too late and your team feels overwhelmed and overworked… whilst trying to train someone new.
It takes 3 months to recruit and train someone…
So, in a perfect world, you would recruit someone 3 months before you need them. And I know what you’re thinking… “Larissa, I can’t see the future!”. But actually, you can… sort of. Your numbers will always tell you what to do.
If you’re wanting to grow in 2024 and beyond, you need to be 3 steps (or 3 months ahead).
I’m sharing a recruitment roadblock that an owner in the Salon Mastery Program overcame before she went away on holiday for 3 weeks! This is: When Is the Right Time to Hire a New Team Member?

28 Jul 2021 | Suite Rental Salons vs. Team-Based Salons | 00:30:00
It's no secret that suite rental salons are becoming more and more popular. As a Salon Owner, you probably already know this.
Now, I know it may appeal to many, but is it more beneficial than having your own team?
This is something I get asked a lot by Salon Owners… it’s confusing to know which option is right for your Salon!
So, I wanted to chat with someone who could shed light on this question and give their honest answer to it, to help Salon Owners know if ditching team-based Salons is the right choice.
Jason Everett currently runs the ‘High-Performance Salon Academy’ in America, where he works with many Salon and Beauty companies across the world.
In this episode, Jason will share with you his amazing insight on what works, and what doesn’t in both salon suites and team-based salons, so you can feel confident in which option is best.

15 May 2024 | Your Salon Wasn’t Comfortable… | 00:30:56
As Salon Owners, we always do our best to make our clients feel relaxed and welcome in our Salon… right?
But, we might’ve missed something.
Have you ever asked a client if they would prefer to chat or just sit quietly with a magazine? Or, if they would prefer to sit in the far corner that’s away from all the other chairs? And… have you asked your team these questions too?
We want everyone to feel safe and included in our Salons, but first we need to start having a conversation with everyone in our Salon about what they NEED. You won’t know what someone needs until you ask!
If you’re not thinking about inclusion, diversity and mental health… it’s time to start. It doesn’t need to feel like a big rock, you can even start with one small change…
In today’s episode of the Salon Owners Collective Podcast, I’m chatting with Shortcuts co-founder Jo Burgess about mental health in the Salon (for your clients AND your team!).

04 Dec 2021 | What Is the Vaccination Etiquette for My Salon? | 00:32:22
I've always said that as a Salon Owner, you have to wear a million different hats at any given time.
And with COVID on top of that, we have been presented with a whole new set of challenges left-right, and center.
Funnily enough, most of these challenges actually fall beyond the normal scope of your CEO job role. And one of the trickiest parts is that we now have to navigate through the personal decisions of our Salon’s clients.
As an Owner, you must now decide who comes into your Salon doors based on whether they are vaccinated or not. I understand how anxious and nerve-wracking this situation will be for you, especially given how much you love and adore your clients.
All you are doing is simply following the rules, but it’s not as straightforward as that, is it? I know how you feel... and I wish it was that easy!
So… I want to help you. I want to show you how you can keep yourself,
your clients, and your team safe… AND still have people coming through your doors. Because after all, you still have a business to run.
That’s why, in this week’s episode I want you to meet Kristina Russell, a Master Hair Colourist and Expert Educator located in Sydney. You may actually know Kristina already, as she has been on the podcast with me before!
Kristina is not only a #GirlBoss when it comes to her experience in the Salon world, but she is also well-known for her refreshing take on COVID and the vaccine guidelines. Her expertise will be essential for you as you navigate the next phase of your Salon.
Kristina has established a process that has not only seen a positive response from her clients but at the core; is keeping herself safe. You will NOT want to miss what she has to say about this topic!
I want you and your Salon to come out of this strong, so I know that hearing Kristina’s secrets about navigating this new territory will be invaluable for you.

24 Aug 2022 | Motherhood & Salon Ownership: Is It Possible to Master Both? | 00:39:32
I see you…
You’re a Salon owner, but more importantly, a mother… trying to balance the juggle between spending too much time at work (away from your kids), and not having enough time to do all the things that you want to in your business.
Your Salon isn’t growing, because let’s face it, you barely have enough time in your day to touch your to-do list…, let alone work on moving the needle in your business. It feels like you’re stuck extinguishing little fires all day long!
And when you do find the space to work on these things, you feel the “mum guilt” creep up…and planning the next big thing gets replaced with the football final for your child’s team. It’s always either: “am I a good enough mother?” or “am I a good enough business owner?”, and you’re left wondering if you’ll ever be able to be successful in both.
Can you run a successful business, have the perfect family, and be the best partner, and friend… Is it even possible to master the art of having it all?
In this episode, I want to introduce Keri & Ashley, accidental best friends and hosts of Momtourage Podcast. Keri & Ashley are both mothers and successful entrepreneurs who have experienced the challenges that motherhood brings when you’re trying to chase your career dreams.
In this episode, you’ll find out motherhood hacks to keep busy salon owners (like yourself) sane as you juggle the business world and being a mum.

Is this you?You started your business because you’re passionate about your craft… you want to do things well, do them your way and really channel your creativity into something that is truly your own. Only now, you’re bogged down in ‘business stuff’ - payroll, hiring, marketing - what happened to the fun stuff? So many Salon Owners I know have experienced this - and god knows I did when I opened my Salon. The problem is, as entrepreneurs we’re used to a certain creative process - but when it comes to business - it just can’t thrive on love, passion, and creativity alone. On this episode of The Salon Owners Collective Podcast, I’m joined by business coach, Laura Higgens. Based in Sydney, Laura helps creatives who are facing this very problem and today she shares the 3 main roadblocks every creative faces when they endeavour to turn their passion and craft into a profitable business. 14 Dec 2022 | A Strong Culture Isn’t Built Around Desperation | 00:22:43
Are you sometimes guilty of being a little desperate when it comes to your team?
Ok…hear me out.
It’s not easy to find team members in today’s climate, right? So you suddenly feel the need to put more focus on your existing team culture. Build a culture that is so strong no one wants to leave…
But a mistake I often see owners making every day is, instead of focusing on building a strong salon culture, they instead act out of panic and desperation when it comes to their team.
You feel the pressure from your team as you don’t want them to leave, but this ends up with you saying yes to all the things…(even the things you don’t want to…such as a pay rise they haven’t yet earned).
You feel held hostage by your team, and give in to your team members' demands so that they never leave, but this isn’t always the answer to winning team culture, and can leave you, the owner, being the one who misses out…
But this isn’t the leadership style that creates a culture where no one wants to leave! In fact, it creates the opposite, and your team members will always be looking for where the grass is greener…
There has to be something stronger, and I believe that comes from this ONE secret to building a winning team culture…
In this episode, I share a sneak peek into my Salon Mastery Coaching Program, and reveal a team leadership strategy that you can implement in the New Year so you can grow your team without sacrificing your salon, your clients, or most importantly, yourself.

Do you ever get the feeling that you haven’t quite yet reached your full potential as Salon CEO?
Things are ticking along, your Salon is growing, your team is happy, and business is “as expected,” yet you have this fire inside of you to keep going, to keep dreaming big.
Everyone has their own unique idea of what success looks like... for many owners, that could be purchasing another Salon, growing a large team, being able to take a holiday and your team thrive without you there…
So while everything is going 'fine' in your day-to-day life, there's this gnawing feeling at the back of your mind that you could, would, should be achieving more.
But what stops you from achieving that? Is it because that 'big dream' feels unattainable or is it that you don’t know the steps to get you there?
In this episode, I want to introduce Christina Flach - Celebrity Makeup Artist and CEO of Pretty Girl Makeup. Christina is the queen of discipline, a mother of five, and running two businesses, she has had to knuckle down on the ways to stay focused in the different areas of her life to reach success.
Christina will share with you her strategies on how to stay in one lane as a business owner, and how to run and manage a successful team that supports your vision and brand as much as you do, so when you have to switch hats, you know that everything else won’t fall apart.

I think I might explode…
This is a common feeling among Salon Owners when a team member keeps crossing a line - they’ve dropped the ball, keep making mistakes, and no longer have a positive influence on the team.

21 Sep 2021 | Stress-Free Guide to Managing Clients after Lockdown Re-Opening | 00:11:09
I have a question for you: If you have recently reopened, after being closed because of covid… Are you feeling just a tad overwhelmed? This is something I’ve been noticing a LOT lately with salon owners i’ve been chatting to… I get it. Post-covid, reopening cray-cray is REAL. Working long hours, trying to communicate effectively with both your team and clients... Now, don't get me wrong, we should of course feel super lucky that we can re-open in the first place. And we do. But that doesn't mean it's any less overwhelming! I'm sure by now you have 100s of clients queuing for the earliest available appointment as you return to the salon. Trying to chop and change the appointment book, squeeze everyone in, prioritise, reschedule, reorganise... it's enough to drive any salon owner to the edge of insanity! But did you know: there are three ways you can reintegrate your clients to keep your own sanity (and that of your team)... and not lose or disappoint any clients along the way. In this episode, I’ll talk you through the three ways to choose from, to manage your appointment book and the peak you are having right now... plus to avoid the troughs that may creep up after the crazy-busy period is over.

03 Mar 2021 | 3 Critical Keys to Growing a Rockstar Team | 00:25:36
Some Salon Owners that I see, are actually starting to think “I don't want to grow”. Maybe there's an inability to find great staff and to fill empty chairs...and this is a real problem for growth. Don’t get me wrong, there are some smart, savvy business owners whose businesses are growing rapidly. But there's still this fear around getting ‘too big’ and not being able to sustain growth. And I think that fear and frustration comes from worry. “What if my team leave and decide to rent a chair somewhere else” “What if one of my team leaves and decides to work from home… and they start to steal my other team members.!” This is a real fear, especially in this changing environment, as a new generation of people come through… who want to work the way that they want to work and don't want to work within boundaries. So I want to talk about the three critical things that you need to establish inside of your business, in order for you to be able to grow the business of your dreams.

14 Dec 2020 | What You Could Be Doing Wrong When Looking For Staff | 00:36:09
Throughout my 36+ years working in the hair and beauty industry, there is 1 challenge so large that it is still affecting Salon Owners to this day. Can you guess what it is? I’m sure you probably guessed it… It’s an issue so prominent and internationally widespread, and something I help Salon Owners with almost daily. That challenge is, finding staff. In this industry, if you really think about it, we actually sell time with humans. And those humans need to be experts!
But what are we meant to do when it feels like no one is even interested in joining our team, right?!
Right. But luckily, there is actually something you can do about it. Something big, that will change your whole approach to the recruitment process. In this episode, my guest Eloise Manning will share what that thing is, plus an abundance of other advice around finding & hiring new team members. Be sure to tune in… you won’t want to miss this one.

10 Dec 2020 | A Year in Review: Lessons Learned in 2020 | 00:43:56
Let’s take a moment to reflect. As we step into 2021, a new year filled with new possibilities... we first must look back on the year that’s passed, in order to look forward into 2021. To make the best of 2021 you must become someone different than you've been in 2020. If you do the same as you did last year, nothing will change- everything will stay the same. Lunacy is doing the same as you’ve done before, and expecting a different result. Let’s work toward bringing out your best & becoming a real salon CEO in 2021, instead of just having another year of ‘average’! I want to dive into some big lessons from 2020… look back on the year that’s gone so that we can have a clear head moving into 2021. 03 Aug 2021 | My Secret to Getting Your Team to Rebook | 00:25:00
I’m sure many Salon Owners have wondered if there is an easy way to ensure clients ALWAYS come back to their Salon.
Well, secrets out… THERE IS! Now I know from experience that it can be super frustrating when the importance of rebookings is stressed to your team, yet they fail to do so. It feels like client relationships are formed, efforts are made, and all for what? As a salon owner, we are hoping it's so the client returns!
So, I want to help remove this frustration by exposing my most effective client retention strategies that any salon can implement both before and after a service, to ensure the client always returns.
I believe these strategies will not only help future-proof your salon but will also create stronger relationships with your clients.

Is this you?
Your current team doesn’t want to work Saturdays or late nights, and they aren’t hitting their targets, yet come to you asking for a pay rise… OMG are they serious?!
And when you try to hire someone new, it’s crickets! It seems like nobody wants to work these days…is this familiar?
So to make up for it, you have to pull the weight for your team… you’re putting in all the hours, saying yes to all the clients…you have a large team, and yet, your Salon still isn’t growing…
It always feels like 2 steps forward, 3 steps back. You’re going round and round an ongoing loop with your team and your business hitting a plateau, and you feel like this is never going to end.
You find yourself asking, what is all of this for? You’re the highest earner, the one who is left mopping the floors at the end of the day…
But this isn’t what you imagined Salon Ownership being, right? No! This isn’t what Salon Ownership should look like… and believe me, I’ve been on that side of running a business, and it’s exhausting and you are left feeling unfulfilled and burned out.
I want to share with you one of my favourite team management strategies, which I taught my owners within our Salon Mastery Program during my 2-day Intensive. It’s all about the 3 step secret in how to get your team to want to work Saturdays and late nights!
It’s time for you to ditch this way of working, and move into your role of Salon CEO, and to do this you need a growing team that is bringing in amazing clients and revenue for your Salon.

21 Jan 2022 | How to Become the CEO of Your Salon in 2022 (Part 3) | 00:39:19
Do you ever look at someone that is successful, someone that is winning at life, and want your life to be the same?
We’ve all been there. It’s part of being a human. But I also believe it’s part of our biggest downfall to success and growth.
Why? Because everyone’s story is different and everyone’s journey to success is different. Whether it is the salon down the road, or a Salon you follow on social media, everyone has gone on their own journey to get to where they are.
When I owned my own Salon, I would always admire other Salon owners and compare what their business looked like on the outside to my own. They looked like they had a perfect team, great clients, and even better, a perfect work/life balance.
I want to help you on your journey. I want to share my experience with you, not so that you can compare your journey to mine, but so you learn real-life strategies that actually work and that helped me grow my million-dollar Salon. These are things you can implement in your Salon, so you can become the successful Salon owner you have always dreamed of.
This episode is the third (and final) part of my Level Up series that walks you through my Salon Annual Planner. This episode will look at all areas of your business, your income, hours, mindset, EVERYTHING that influences your role as Salon CEO.

27 Oct 2020 | The 3 Keys to Running a Successful Business | 00:31:40
Being a Salon Owner can be an emotional rollercoaster. Trust me, I get it...
Over my 20 years owning a Salon and growing a team of up to 30… there were a lot of ups & downs, team dramas, personal dramas, babies, weddings… and all the rest! The emotional rollercoaster that you experience when working in an industry that revolves around ‘humans’ is REAL… and it can feel crazy at times!
But one of the most important lessons that I learned as a Salon owner- and that i’m still practicing in my business today- is leaving the emotions out of it when it comes to making business decisions. That’s why in this episode, I’m bringing in special guest Greta Veint. Greta works with me at the Salon Owners Collective as a business coach to Salon Owners like yourself… and her expertise is running a business like a #pro. One key aspect of that? ...Data-driven decision making. Join us in this ep as we divulge into this… plus the 3 BIG things all Salon Owners need to be doing in order to run a successful business.

27 Apr 2021 | Breaking the Stigma Around Home Hair Colour… | 00:25:03
I’m kind of scared to say this, because I know it’s something that makes a lot of Salon Owner’s eyes roll… That’s right, today we’re talking about home hair colour. And I know you might be thinking, “But Larissa, you used to be a hairdresser, why are you talking about home hair colour!?” OK, let me explain… The stigma around home hair colour is something that’s circulated our industry for years… like, I get it. Why do your hair at home when you can come in and be pampered in my amazing salon… right?!
Right. But did you know that only 20% of people actually go to Salons? There’s a reason why supermarket haircare brands are so successful… and so I think it’s time we tapped into this market a little more, and started breaking the stigma around home hair colour. Why miss out on that 80% of clients when there’s a way home hair colour can be done WELL… with a proper consultation from a qualified hairdresser and everything. That’s why today I’m chatting to Karen Anne from Della Ricca Hair Colour. Della Ricca Hair Colour is an at home colour company done RIGHT. This is sure to change your opinion on this topic, I just know it…

23 Nov 2023 | The Secret to Increased Engagement, Efficiency and Exceptional Service in Your Salon | 00:31:50
Everyone’s talking about Employee Experience - but what does it actually mean?
Not too long ago, employee experience was a little-known concept - but post-pandemic, it has blown up as companies are discovering the untapped value and potential of exceptional employee experience design.
Basically, employee experience refers to the experience that your team members have working for you - what they like about working for you - and what they don’t like or would like to see changed or improved.
And the reason it's so important is that a great employee experience can improve recruitment, retention, engagement, and even customer service in your Salon.
So, today on The Salon Owners Collective Podcast, Larissa is joined by expert HR consulting company Human Kind - who reveals the 7 principles of Employee Experience and how an exceptional employee experience design can bring value to your Salon.

03 Jul 2022 | The Salon Lifestyle Effect: “No Saturdays, No Late Nights Say What?!” | 00:41:36
The Hair & Beauty Industry has had an undeniably huge shake up!
Salons that were once thriving and growing are having to adjust considerably to suit the new industry climate… the ‘lifestyle effect’ is at large and nobody wants to work late nights or Saturdays.
Your team is more demanding than ever and you’re worried that if you don’t meet their demands, they’ll leave. But then if you do give in, you’ll end up back on the floor 50+ hours a week… and you’ll be left feeling resentful!
Sure, they can have the lifestyle they want, but does yours have to suffer?! It’s a total double-edged sword!
This is why I want to introduce to you, my two friends, James Carlisle & Lynden James, owners of Vivo Hair & Skin Clinic.
If there is anyone who is making it work against all odds…and for the most part completely unscathed, it’s these two.

Even post-pandemic & pre-recession James & Lynden are reaching success, on a mission to reach 100 Salon’s by the end of the year.

10 Feb 2022 | “Is It My Fault My Team is Leaving?” | 00:33:31
Have you recently gone through a breakup?–and no, I’m not talking about a romantic breakup, I’m talking about a TEAM breakup!
I actually think a team breakup can be ten times more painful than an actual breakup...AND it’s even worse when they start dating the Salon down the road.
You’re left feeling confused, stressed, and yet again having to solve the problem of why your team isn’t sticking around. Not only that, but you have to spend the time that you were GOING to spend working on growing your business, finding someone to fill the role.
It’s a vicious cycle, and unfortunately one I see all too often.
In our industry, this seems to be the most common, neverending problem all Salon Owners face, so you aren’t alone! Why aren’t my team sticking around? Why have I spent so much time training them, only for them to leave 6 months later? Am I not paying them enough?
BUT, what if we shifted our way of thinking?
In this episode of the Podcast, I want you to meet Sheryl Lee-Woodhouse. I have known Sheryl for years and with her extensive background in relationship management and Salon recruitment, you know she is going to give incredible knowledge on what you could be missing when it comes to your team.
So, listen to the episode to hear her take on what is happening in the industry and what needs to change.

23 Jun 2021 | 2 Hacks to Leading a Growing Team | 00:39:41
Growing your Salon: it's challenging. Can you relate?
Things are forever evolving in Salons; Owners have to constantly adapt systems and processes. Just like any evolution, things start to break. Perhaps what worked before, no longer will. Adapting is not always easy, but it does teach us fundamental lessons in return. Lessons, which I believe, are key to any successful Salon growth. If you're anything like I was, you never feel like your Salon is 'complete', always striving for improvement - and that’s great! Improving, however, means things can’t stay the same. There have to be constant shifts from ‘norm’ to ‘new’.
Here at Salon Owners Collective, we could not relate more to this. That’s why I’ve decided to bring in one of my very own - team leader and operations manager, Suzy.
Having been with us for over 3 years now, she’s witnessed and learned so many valuable lessons while helping grow the business to where it is today.
She’s chosen to share her two biggest lessons around team management which I know any Salon Owner will find helpful.

And it starts to affect the rest of the team.
This person’s behaviour starts eating away at you, and you find yourself thinking about it all the time. Like in the middle of the night. It’s CONSTANTLY worrying you.
Chances are - if you have someone in mind right now... they're the bad apple.

30 Nov 2022 | Revealed: The Greatest Challenge of a Salon CEO | 00:31:35
I often compare Salon ownership to an ongoing game of Tetris.
You’re always trying to move the pieces around: your team, your sales, and your clients, to make them fit perfectly together and win the game of mastering a successful business.
The challenge of this is that the pieces are always moving and are unpredictable (humans!!) and while the more experience you have in running a Salon, the more ‘in control’ things feel, there is still lots of uncertainty, you often wonder what will happen next…what move will you have to make….
It’s not often I get to introduce a guest on my podcast for the 5th time…but Stevie is an exception! I am so excited to have Stevie English back on my podcast to share his secret to building an incredible team culture, a growing clientele, and most importantly the secret to looking after YOU as the CEO so you feel in control of your business even when shit hits the fan!
Stevie with 15 years of industry knowledge, chats on how to keep your team happy and your business thriving without having to sacrifice your life & freedom. Stevie is a master of Salon Ownership, so I know you’ll love everything he has to say….

28 Sep 2022 | Can’t Trust Your Salon Manager? | 00:29:08
Is your Salon Manager really helping the business move forward, or are they instead hindering the future success of the Salon?
As the Salon Owner, you already have too many tabs open.
You’re thinking about a million different things and you have a to-do list that is never-ending. Your role is to lead your business and ensure that it continues to grow, which is why you need a right-hand man, or what we, in this industry, call a Salon Manager.
When hiring a salon manager, the goal is to find someone to manage the hustle of daily operations in the Salon, and help carry the weight of leading the team, so that you can step away from working IN the business, and instead work more ON the business.
But this isn’t always as picture-perfect as it seems…can you relate?
Whilst you’d hoped that hiring a Salon Manager was going to be the answer to all your problems, it’s actually ended up being an even bigger headache…
The jobs aren’t getting done, you’re doing more than ever, and you can’t actually trust them to look after the Salon when you aren’t there.
So what is going to give?
I want to introduce Greta Veint, one of our Salon Mastery Success Coaches here at Salon Owners Collective. After leading 17 Salons as a Salon Manager, (and being a total Rockstar working for me during my Salon days), Greta knows what it takes to harness an effective management role within a successful salon, and build a productive working relationship between the Salon CEO & Manager.
She is the powerhouse behind our Motivating Managers program within Salon Mastery and has all the tips and tricks to help you go from frustration with your management team, to motivate managers to be confident and successful in their role... so that you can step away and the salon can continue to flourish.

18 May 2022 | Can Your Salon Survive Without You? | 00:32:53
Are you tired of being at the centre of your Salon?
You feel like the moment you step outside the salon doors, everything starts to fall apart. You have people ringing you, texting you, emailing you… what’s next, a messenger pigeon?! (It wouldn’t be a total stretch, right? 🤣)
As a result, the salon is on your mind 24/7… even when you’re not actually there! You want your team to be autonomous and self-sufficient… but you find that if you don’t do things yourself, they just aren’t done quite right… it’s a vicious cycle!
Luckily, you aren’t alone. As Salon Owners, we tend to be involved in every aspect of our salons, so when we try and step away from working in the business, we get trapped! How can the Salon survive a day without you doing all the thing?!
Not only this, but it can feel super lonely as a Salon Owner. You feel alone in your decisions, and the weight of the Salon rests on your shoulders… it’s a lot of pressure! This can become exhausting, and not sustainable in the long run. Something needs to change, right?
I want to introduce you to Shanalie Wijesinghe. Shanalie is the head of education at Boulevard, a business management platform that is designed to drive sales, automate workflows, and convert customers from visitors into valuable, long-term clients.
Shanalie is an industry expert when it comes to both working in the Salon and on the Salon and knows how hard it can be to separate the “me” from the role of CEO.
In this episode, you will discover how to separate the emotion from the important decisions in your Salon, in order to have a successful and thriving business.
So, if you’ve been feeling like your Salon may crumble without you being there 24/7, then let’s dive into this episode and hear what the lovely Shanalie has to say…

Do you worry that at any given moment, your team may leave and you will struggle to replace them?
Like, every time you try to find a new team member or put out an ad, it never seems to work. It feels like no one wants to work for you!
You worry that you will never find any new team members, and since it feels like everyone is looking right now… your chances decrease even more! You feel like everyone else has all the team, and there is none left for you!
It has you constantly on tenterhooks; like you are being held hostage in your own Salon. ... and it’s frustrating because you feel like it’s out of your hands.
Somebody leaves and you have no one to move the clients to, so you get stuck doing them and going back on the floor.
You feel like you are in a constant revolving door, with every 2 steps forward comes 2 steps back.
Well did you know, you could actually be making some crucial mistakes when it comes to hiring.. mistakes I see SO many Salons making.

08 Jun 2022 | How to Break Through Self-Doubt as Salon CEO | 00:32:56
Have you ever had a defining moment in your Salon career where you knew you wanted to achieve more?
This may look like opening a Salon in a second location? Or taking on an educator or trainer role with a product company…
Whatever it may be, taking the next step in your journey isn’t always as easy as it sounds, right?
When presented with a new opportunity, you may feel hesitant about change, alone, and totally out of your depth to take the next step (hello, imposter syndrome!).
The fear starts to take over, and you start to question yourself, “Am I good enough for this?” “Can I even achieve this?”(I still have this exact conversation with myself all. the. time!).
Fear is something that can be self-sabotaging for CEOs, and you'd be surprised how often our beliefs limit our potential. In this episode, I want to shift your mindset around fear and entrepreneurship, to show you that it is totally normal to not have your sh*t together at all times, and to give you some strategies to harness this type of fear for good.
This is why I want to introduce you to the inspiring, Lindsey Schwartz.
Lindsey is the founder of Powerhouse Women Co - a community built all-around helping kickass business women succeed and go through entrepreneurship together (which is totally up my alley!).
Lindsey is an inspiration to all female business owners and I know you will love what she has to share about the most common limiting beliefs when it comes to pursuing our big ideas, and how to overcome them.

You want to be a successful Salon Owner, right? Maybe even a million-dollar Salon Owner?
To live a lifestyle where you choose the hours you work, but earn enough to enjoy a life outside of the Salon, so you can spend more time with your family and doing other things you love?
It’s the dream….however, it’s not going to happen just like that! If it was that easy, everyone would already be there.
To get to this point in your career, it comes down to being committed and dedicated.
You have to build a business of clients that are loyal to your brand and will follow you and your team. You can’t grow a successful Salon without a team, so it’s crucial you gain respect in the industry from your peers and future team members.
It requires you to think beyond the chair. I don't know about you, but when I became a business owner, I wasn't fully prepared for all the roles I'd have to take on! Like, you have to be good at more than just cutting hair, right?! You have to create a culture that people are inspired by, with a vision that is unique.
If you want to get there, I believe with the right tools and advice, anyone can… and I want to show you how.
I am so excited about this episode. Antony Whittaker has been in the industry for decades, and his journey is almost parallel to mine, which is why I find Antony so inspiring and relatable. After being globally recognised for his work in the Salon, Antony began inspiring others on how to be successful business owners and not just hairdressers.

Have you ever felt like: You’re working yourself to the bone: You’re busier than ever with clients, plus managing an ever-evolving team...
You’re hardly present with your family as work has taken over your brain space… but what makes it worse is you’re not growing.
But still, you end up saying YES all the time:
Or maybe you’re guilty of having shiny object syndrome…. Are you nodding your head right now? I know I’ve been guilty of this too… But this is a HUGE mistake. Because in reality, these are often the things that will halt forward momentum in our business. As a result, you take 2 steps forward, 2 back. Your business is at a constant plateau, and you get super frustrated because you’re BUSY doing ALL the things- so you start to wonder-- ‘why am I not growing?’ You get overwhelmed and burnt out… which leads to halting progress even more. Agh! It’s a vicious cycle. In this episode, I will take you through my secret formula to increasing sales by working less (for smart salon CEOs). If you’re overworking 30+ hours on the Salon floor, and want to create what I like to call ‘CEO discipline’, and have the time to move the needle in your business, then keep listening… Plus don’t forget to grab yourself a copy of the “4 Steps to Becoming a Smart Salon CEO” strategy. When team members leave you, it can feel like you’ve been betrayed… Like… “How dare they?!”... right? I totally understand that feeling of rejection when one of your team leaves, especially when they move to another Salon down the road!

Should we expect our team to be as invested in us? I have a few opinions on this… plus an action plan that i’ve put together all around what to do when a team member leaves. We must stand up and take action - get what’s ours, make ends meet, grow our business and get on with life… There are 3 things we need to do and have in place for us to be ready to take swift action that makes the best of a tricky situation. 21 Jul 2022 | Creating Healthy Boundaries to Stop People Pleasing | 00:31:42
Do you find yourself saying YES to things that you would rather be saying NO to?
I used to be guilty of this myself. That’s right, I’m a recovering YES-aholic!
Like, it’s a fact…
As salon owners and creative entrepreneurs (and women in particular), we try to do it all.
In fact, we overdo it more than we’d care to admit. Often without even realising, we spend so much of our energy trying to please everyone, saying yes to everything that comes our way, and constantly putting ourselves last to ensure our teams, our partners, and our family are happy.
But what does this leave us with?
Not the feeling of success and fulfillment that we’d hoped for, but actually the feeling of burnout and exhaustion. And what good can come from you feeling like this?
So it’s time we ditch this endless cycle we’ve managed to get ourselves stuck in, and create a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle, so we can continue to reach success in our salons.
That’s why I want to introduce Sonya Stattmann - a business and leadership coach and host of the podcast “Women in the Business Arena”.
Sonya is going to share her tried-and-tested strategies for how to stop the monster of comparison and avoid burnout and overwhelm.

I'm sure at one point or another, you've thought about expanding your Salon business, but have you ever thought about taking over a Salon that already exists? This may sound scary, after all being the new face to a Salon environment and not knowing what to expect isn’t something we particularly like. Even if you are the leader, you still feel the pressure of making a good impression... In order for people to cooperate, they need to trust and respect their leader. There are so many important factors to consider when purchasing a Salon, but I think one of the most important ones is your team. In order to lead them well, you need to understand who they are. The reality is, the Salon team is already established and you are walking in expecting them to follow your lead. So how do you take over a team the right way? Well, today I’m chatting with Vivo founders James & Lynden who have done this. Owning over 90 successful Salons across New Zealand, they share their insights into what it takes to do so. So let’s tune in to hear what they have to say…

02 Feb 2022 | What I Wish I Knew Before Opening My Salon | 00:29:07
This is the moment you have been dreaming about since you began your journey as a young Salon apprentice. You’re now ready to take the next big step in your career and begin your journey as the owner of a Salon.
This is something that I believe is the natural stepping stone in your career when you have been in this industry for years and have learned all the hands-on skills you want to. Now, you are after something more, to pursue a different passion, which may be owning a business. I was itching to dig my feet into something more and owning a business seemed like the perfect fit!
Whilst this is something that I’m sure you have considered at some point in your Salon journey, a lot of the time, people jump into it too quickly without considering all of the ups and downs of what actually owning their own Salon business may look like.
Sometimes, it takes someone else that has been in your shoes before, to let you know exactly what you are getting yourself into.
So, this week I knew I wanted to bring in my dear friend (and someone who I used to coach!), Louise May, to talk about what opening your Salon may look like for you. Louise is not only a Salon mentor, successful business owner, and Magazine editor of Hair Biz Australia, but she is also an incredible mother and wife to her family.
