18 Jan 2023Cristin Waite - "Start somewhere, then just keep running"00:56:25

I had the incredible opportunity to sit down and chat with my very dear friend, my personal trainer, Cristin Waite from "Waite Training".

Cristin's run story may have started out in 2022 but running has always been there. Cristin, a former collegiate swimmer at Springhill College, shares how running for conditioning versus running with purpose is essential. She also shares how much of a difference training with a group versus alone is.

Cristin also shares how Waite Training started and how vital strength training is to the running community. My dear friend is also one of the strength coaches for
RYS Training Program. She does an incredible job keeping our runners/walkers strong on the pavement.

Cristin who is also the Race Director for the Go Run, shares a little bit about the race. We will definitely have her back on to talk about the race and what it means to our community!

She is a mom, a wife, a personal trainer, an event planner at the University of South Alabama, and now a runner, and here is Cristin Waite's Run Your Story.

01 Feb 2023Jennifer Wilson - "You can do the hard things if you put your mind to it"00:32:10

Jennifer Wilson started running in high school where she was a soccer player. Her goal was to improve her mile time from over 6 minutes to under 6 minutes so she wouldn't be benched. After high school, she continued running here and there.

In 2019, Jennifer started CrossFit and loves it because of the supportive community and the variety of workouts, and just a few months later she started coaching.

Jennifer shares her love of Disney and running, and just completed a 10K in the Disney during the marathon weekend, where she completed a goal of running non-stop, not even stopping for the beloved characters.

Jennifer has a personal goal to do a 10-miler race in Disney in April and has multiple competition goals in the next six months, with the main goal being the CrossFit Open which starts in February.  And in this episode, Jennifer shares that The CrossFit games will be in Birmingham, Alabama for the next three years!! So road trip anyone to cheer on our favorite runner and CrossFit Coach!!

08 Feb 2023Derrick Williams - "Go the Extra Mile, It's Not Crowded"00:39:55

Derrick Williams is known in our community as someone who always celebrates people's accomplishments on social media.

Derrick started running during the pandemic running in his backyard to music.  The transition from football to running was different for Derrick in terms of stretching, mentality, and being a solo sport.

The two highlighted the supportive and sharing nature of the running community and how runners are always willing to try new gear and share their experiences with others.

In addition to running, Derrick also cross-trains at the gym and focuses on strength training with his background in football, which has influenced his strength training regimen, which he has been following for over 20 years. Derrick believes in the importance of strength training for runners and how it contributes to longevity in the sport. He values the running community and finds it to be supportive and encouraging, making the journey more fun and enjoyable.

When it comes to running, Derrick doesn't have a specific mantra but just tells himself to keep going when things get tough. He has adopted the phrase "Go the extra mile. It's never crowded," as a way to push himself in all areas of life.

22 Feb 2023Jim Mather - "Healing is a Process, There's a Purpose in Pain"01:29:27

Jim Mather shares his personal running story and the role it has played in his life. Running was inspired by his uncle and father, who were runners and coaches. During his teenage years, he got serious about running and continued to run even after joining the military. However, he went through a phase where running became too much and he had to let go. He also went through several significant events in his life but maintained peace through his faith.

Jim picked up running again as a master and recounts his experiences at the Azalea Trail Run. He learned the importance of enjoying the moment and building relationships rather than worrying about winning. He emphasizes the importance of having close friends and mentors who believe in them, no matter what their results are, and to have balance in their lives. He believes that running is a school for understanding pain and encourages runners to be kind to themselves and to offer empathy for those who are suffering. Healing is a process.

Jim emphasizes the importance of investing in a coach and seeking professional help when necessary.

Jim started as a sprinter but later realized he was better suited for longer distances. He encourages beginner runners to stick with it and make it about relationships.

15 Feb 2023Leith Rawson - "Just do Hard Things"00:28:01

Leith Rawson is a long-time runner who started running at a young age and has continued the sport throughout high school and then ran at the University of Mobile. Leith shares what it was like having his dad as his running coach. Running has taught Leith the importance of showing up consistently and being dedicated to the sport. Leith learned to enjoy running for its own sake, rather than for the purpose of winning.

Leith and MaKagan have a special connection to the Reindeer Run 5k in Satsuma, AL. Leith proposed to MaKagan there! They also run together and it's been a fun experience for them to see each other grow in their running journey. It's great that they have a shared interest and are able to enjoy running together.

Leith has goals to run longer distances and just enjoys being on the pavement. Leith is now coaching at the University of Mobile and learning about running while having the cool advantage of seeing the whole perspective of running from the outside that he did not have as a collegiate athlete.

We cannot wait to see what else Leith is able to accomplish when he hits the pavement!

24 Feb 2023Port City Pacers & Azalea Trail Run00:29:53

In this episode, Allison sits down with President Megan Moiren Sandy and Vice President Suzanne Crist to discuss the history and benefits of the organization. The Port City Pacers were founded in 1979 with the goal of promoting health and fitness in the running community of Mobile, Alabama. In fact, the very first year of the Azalea Trail run was sponsored by the Pacers. Currently, the organization has around 320 members, but they hope to grow that number and return to the over 1,000 members they had in the past.

Port City Pacers is an organization that organizes races and events for runners in the Mobile, Alabama area. As a volunteer-based organization, many volunteer opportunities are available, including setting up for races, working at water stops, and managing the finish line. In addition, there are open board positions, such as course marshal, registration and results coordinator, and newsletter editor. Port City Pacers also host the Grand Prix, a season-long competition for members to accumulate points and win awards. Corporate Cup is a separate competition among different organizations in the running community, with points awarded for participation and finishes in races. Anyone can join Port City Pacers, but not everyone on the team is automatically part of a Corporate Cup team. To join Corporate Cup, a group should contact Will Wright.

When asked about their favorite thing about the Pacers, Megan and Suzanne both mention the sense of community and the relationships they have formed with other members. They also discuss the importance of member feedback in improving the organization's races, including the choice of awards and shirts. They emphasize that the goal of the Pacers is not to make money but to break even and be able to donate to the community.

08 Mar 2023Suzanne Crist - "You can do anything for 60 seconds"00:59:45

Suzanne Crist, the creator of Run251 shares her Run Story. Suzanne was also one of the first people Allison spoke to about the Run Your Story podcast. They both recall where they discussed the idea and how important that moment was for Allison.

Suzanne's journey into running began when she was an administrator at a school. Her first attempt at running didn't go well. She had been a smoker for 17 years and quit smoking, which made her believe that she could participate in the Azalea Trail Run, but she couldn't complete it. She started to progress gradually, making it to one mailbox, then to the next. Suzanne recalls doing everything wrong at the beginning of her running journey, from the wrong shoes to no form. She started with 5Ks and joined the Buffalo Wild Wings Run-N-Tri on Wednesdays, which she still attends today.

Both Allison and Suzanne talk about how the running community in Mobile is very welcoming and supportive, and how they often invite new members to join their different running groups.  A supportive community is essential to help you stay motivated and achieve your goals. Suzanne has great mantras such as “keep moving” and "you can do anything for 60 seconds." It's a great reminder to stay focused and keep pushing yourself, even when things get tough.

15 Mar 2023Kelly Sheets - "You can come back from injury. Don't give up!"01:09:25

Join Kelly Sheets and her unexpected journey into running. Although Kelly had always been an exerciser, she was never much of a runner. However, after the birth of her first child in 2005, Kelly found herself struggling to teach her exercise classes while the daycare was caring for her upset baby. One day, she decided to try running with him in a jogging stroller at Cottage Hill Park. At first, she didn't like it and could barely run a mile without stopping, but it gradually got better. Over time, she upgraded to a double stroller and eventually to a triple stroller when she had her third child. Despite the challenges, Kelly continued to run and found that it became her preferred form of exercise.

Kelly talks about making a comeback after an injury that prevented her from running for six weeks. She trained for and ran a marathon, but it was a tough race. In 2019, Kelly experienced a familiar pain in her right thigh while running, which her doctor suspected was another stress fracture. She shut down her running for six weeks and borrowed a friend's road bike to stay active.

One of the most important things Kelly has learned is to never give up, even when there are obstacles in her way. She mentions how she had to listen to her body and cater her training and workouts to herself instead of comparing herself to others. Kelly believes that there is a certain empathy in the running community where people encourage each other no matter where they are in their running journey.

Kelly emphasizes the importance of customizing workout plans and doing what you can when you can, rather than comparing yourself to others. Kelly shares the advice of a friend who told her that running is easy, you just put one foot in front of the other, and encourages listeners to keep going and doing what they can when they face adversity.

In this bonus episode, Mike Wattigny talks about his recent experiences in organizing various races in different locations. It has been a busy few months for him, starting with the Louisiana Marathon in Baton Rouge in January, followed by the Baton Rouge General Mardi Gras Mabo in February. After Mardi Gras, Mike and his team went to Auburn to put on the War Eagle Run Fest at Jordan Hair Stadium, which saw a significant growth of 40% in participation from the previous year. Mike then returned to Baton Rouge to organize the Our Lady Lake Children's Health Amazing Half and flew to St. Pete four days later to do the Skyway 10K. The Skyway 10K is a lottery race that sells out every year at 8,000 people and was one of the races produced by Mike's team that made it to the top 100 list.

Mike and his team deliver a memorable experience for everyone involved in their races, whether it's someone's first one-mile run or their 100th marathon. He hopes to inspire a balanced lifestyle by encouraging people to make the choice for healthy living.

Mike also talks about some exciting news, which is that registration for both the Louisiana Marathon and the Mississippi Gulf Coast Marathon will launch on Monday, March 20th. He explains that anyone who registers for the half or full marathon at either race during the first week of the launch will receive an exclusive in-training T-shirt, which features the state of Mississippi or Louisiana.

22 Mar 2023Erica Spann - "Run Strong"00:49:06

Erica Spann is a runner who changed her life after deciding to lose weight in December 2016. Erica shares that she was never athletic and that her social life was her main activity. When she got pregnant with her daughter, she gained almost 70 pounds, and after adding more weight over the years, she decided to make a change. One day, while sitting on the beach, she saw runners and decided to give running a try. However, when she got on the treadmill, she couldn't even run for one minute. Determined to teach herself how to run, Erica ran what she could and then walked until she could run three miles without stopping.

Erica Spann started running with a group of women after her friend Matt Clark invited her to run with his group. On one of her runs with the group, those runners soon turned to friends, who showed her a new route to run.

Erica advises anyone who wants to start running or walking to start small and build up and emphasizes the importance of the running community that will push, motivate, encourage, inspire, and welcomes them.

29 Mar 2023Pam Pitts - "You are your only limit. It's you against you."00:26:01

Pam shares that she was never a runner growing up, and she hated running even when playing softball. However, she started walking regularly with a friend, and when her brother started running and lost a lot of weight, she decided to try it as well. She and her friend signed up for a 5k race and ran the whole way, which was a great feeling for Pam. She continued to run and walk regularly, and with the help of a gym coach, she learned how to prevent shin splints. Pam started doing 5k and 10k races and eventually decided to do a half marathon in Maui in 2011, which she completed successfully.

Pam talks about her running experiences, including her favorite races and advice for new runners. Pam emphasizes the importance of discipline over motivation when it comes to running and encourages runners not to compare themselves to others. Her goal is to complete 200 half-marathons by her 50th birthday. Pam's favorite distance to run is the half marathon because she has done many of them and knows how to pace herself. When she's not running, Pam enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with her family, friends, and dogs. She also shares her mantra, which is "one day you won't be able to do this, but today is not that day," and emphasizes that running is a privilege.

31 Mar 2023Anna Szymanski - "Persevere through the hard days, the hard runs"00:42:28

In this podcast, Allison Gaillard interviews Anna Szymanski, an athletic trainer for Saraland High School. The podcast is a special episode for National Athletic Training Month. The two hosts were previously classmates and friends, and they catch up on their lives since school. Anna has a run story to share, which starts back in middle school when she and her friends decided to do a sport together in high school. They chose to run cross country, and although she had tendonitis in her lower leg and ankle, she did not let that stop her. During track season, she tried various events and ended up doing 100 meters for fun. Later, she moved to Atlanta, where she participated in track but had to stop due to a small fracture in her lower spine. Anna took a sports medicine class during this time and realized that she was interested in the medical field.

Allison asks Anna what advice she would give an injured runner. Anna begins by saying that the advice she would give would depend on the type of athlete, whether they are a long-distance runner or a sprinter. She then goes on to talk about a young athlete with an overuse injury, who wanted to push himself more despite the injury. Anna advised him to take some time off and worked with his coach to create a training plan to help him recover. Anna's advice to an injured runner would be to rest the body and allow it to heal itself, as the body knows what to do in most situations. She also suggests that active rest, such as cross-training, could be a good option for injured runners, allowing them to still use their muscles while avoiding impact.

Anna talks about the misconceptions about athletic trainers, the need to change the name "athletic trainer" to something medical, and the role of athletic trainers in sports medicine. She also talks about injury prevention and rehabilitation of athletes. Athletic trainers are sports medicine first responders who provide medical assistance to injured athletes on the field. They also do rehab with athletes who have minor injuries and can't afford to go to a doctor or physical therapy. Injury prevention is crucial to their job, but they often talk about it after athletes are already injured. They work with athletes who have chronic injuries and provide them with exercises to prevent the injury from happening again.

12 Apr 2023Delaney Zimlich - "Have Courage and Be Kind"00:47:00

Delaney Zimlich, an adaptive athlete, shares her run story in an interview. Her parents started training for the 2014 Forest Gump run and saw another girl in a wheelchair using gloves to participate in a 5K race. Delaney became fast friends with this girl, Shandy Oliver, and got involved with the running community team called Ainsley's Angels. She started participating in races, including Disney races and found that training significantly impacted her performance. She also shares her perspective on how races can be better for adaptive athletes, including having an adaptive category listed on race registrations and bike escorts for lead athletes to ensure safety. Delaney also discusses the importance of having awards for adaptive athletes in races, as not all races offer them. Finally, she explains that an adaptive athlete is someone who uses a hand cycle, push rim, or other assistive devices to participate in athletic activities.
Delaney started Krew of Kindness to give back to her community and help with adaptive recreation. Krew of Kindness has sponsored special needs camps, partnered with local organizations, and organized family-friendly Mardi Gras balls as fundraisers. They have also engaged in service projects such as sewing pillowcases for hospital rooms to make them brighter and cheerier. They have partnered with Distinguished Young Women and created pillowcases with different designs, including Disney characters, for children at the hospital.

10 May 2023Suzanne Clark - "Don't Compare Yourself to Others, it is a Thief of Joy"00:34:40

Suzanne started running when a co-worker asked her to train for a 5K race. After completing the race and placing fifth in her age group, Suzanne became hooked on running. She then progressed to running half marathons and marathons, including the First Light Marathon, which was special to her because she has a brother with Down Syndrome. Suzanne also became a part of a Facebook group called I Run for Michael, where members could sign up to run for special needs individuals.

Suzanne discusses her pre and post-race routine, favorite running items, and running fuel in an interview. Before a race, Clark prepares the night before by having everything laid out and setting multiple alarms to ensure she doesn't oversleep. She eats a light breakfast of coffee, toast, and banana, or Uncrustables or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich if it's a marathon. She warms up before the race, and after the race, she drinks a protein shake to recover and hydrate. Her favorite running item is the Nathan hydration vest, and her favorite running shoes are Newton Motion. She prefers ultra-long peak trail shoes for trail running and loves E-gels by Crank Sports for running fuel.

17 May 2023Jack Hester - "Don't Compare Yourself to Everybody Else"00:41:16

Allison interviews Jack Hester about his unique run story. Jack was never a runner in his early years and only began running in his late twenties and early thirties. After a while, he decided to sign up for a marathon despite never having run a 5k or 10k before. He trained using a program but did not do it with intentionality. The marathon was both a sweet and bitter experience, and Jack has only run two races in his life, a marathon, and a half marathon.

Jack discusses the parallels between running and the Christian spiritual journey. He talks about the importance of knowing what you're doing and why you're doing it, not just going through the motions. He also addresses the issue of burnout and how comparing oneself to others can lead to self-defeat. Finally, Jack discusses the history of the term "burnout" and how it was first used in relation to machines.

Jack recommends finding a community or someone with the same interest to get started, and how the Couch to 5K program is a manageable program for beginners. Allison and Jack also discuss the importance of celebrating with others and how running can be similar to the Christian life.

Michelle had a traumatic accident four years ago while training for a triathlon, resulting in injuries and a long recovery process. However, she remained determined to run again and persevered through the pain and setbacks. Allison has witnessed Michelle's progress and admires her resilience.

09 Aug 2023Chrissy Schneider - "This is going to be worthwhile in the end!"00:51:47

Chrissy shares that she felt accepted and supported when she joined a running group, which motivated her to keep running. She recalls her first experiences with running groups, feeling lost and left behind. Chrissy started running during her college years to join the soccer team and discovered her love for running.

Chrissy's main lessons from running are the power of consistency, the importance of grace and self-compassion when not consistent, and the value of taking rest days. Allison compliments Chrissy on her yoga instruction and how it has helped her feel better and improve her body's mobility. Although they have different paces, they still enjoy running as buddies.

Chrissy's approach to life is thinking long-term and making intentional decisions based on what she would be glad about when she's older. The concept of building consistency, whether in running or life choices, is something she values deeply.

16 Aug 2023Jordan DuBose - "Don’t throw in the towel. Instead, use it to wash the sweat off your face and just keep going."00:30:56

Jordon DuBose began running with the aim of losing weight, which initially was motivated by the wrong reasons. Overcoming an eating disorder and hip surgery, she found running therapeutic. Her first marathon was in 2015, and she's become addicted to the sport. She emphasizes the importance of celebrating victories, even small ones, and the value of tenacity. Jordon's favorite race is the First Light half marathon, which taught her she can tackle challenges.

She's passionate about running for a cause, particularly supporting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. She will be running the New York Marathon as a St. Jude hero. Her final words of wisdom revolve around pursuing visions and goals that align with a deeper purpose. She believes that if you receive a vision, it's a sign that you're meant to fulfill it. Jordon is excited and determined to take on the challenges of the New York Marathon and is looking forward to the experience.

23 Aug 2023Sharonda Shula - "You can do hard things"00:22:29

Allison Gaillard and Sharonda Shula have a close friendship centered around their shared passion for running. They reminisce about their running adventures and the joy of running together.

Sharonda's running journey began in fourth grade when she joined the cross-country team with her brother. She enjoyed it but stopped when her school didn't offer it in fifth grade. Years later, at 33, she decided to join the military and started running again to get in shape. She lost weight, joined the National Guard, and continued running. Sharonda's commitment to consistency in her running routine is a valuable lesson she's learned.

Her favorite running memory is participating in the Ragnar Atlanta trail run, despite injuring her ankle during the race. Sharonda views the experience as a positive challenge and opportunity for growth. She doesn't have a worst race experience, as she finds fun and learning in each race.

Her running goals include completing a half marathon. Sharonda's running mantra is "You can do hard things," and she enjoys 5K and 10K races. Besides running, she loves biking and traveling. The conversation ends with an appreciation for her military service and a promise to stay connected despite her upcoming deployment. They reflect on the supportive running community and encourage others to start and have fun with running.

06 Sep 2023Anna Lange - "Put on the Mindset of a Runner"00:55:57

Allison met Anna about a year ago at Fleet Feet and bonded over their shared interest in running.

Anna began running at a young age by doing a one-mile loop in her neighborhood while building connections with neighbors. In college, she continued running and joined a soccer team despite having little prior experience. She always had the goal of running a half marathon but kept postponing it. However, after encountering a 50-mile runner during a vacation, she decided to sign up for a half marathon and fell in love with running during her training. Her goal now is to do one race per month, with a focus on half marathons before eventually attempting a marathon.

Anna emphasized the importance of encouraging others during difficult parts of a race, sharing how cheering for fellow runners gave her a second wind during her half marathon. She suggested that focusing on encouraging others can help shift your mindset away from the difficulty of the race and lead to a more positive experience.
Anna shared valuable advice for new runners, emphasizing the importance of making running fit into your routine and finding a running style that works for you. She also highlighted the significance of taking care of oneself and being a good steward of one's body. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to volunteer at races and praised the ease of volunteering at events.

27 Sep 2023Taylor Baird - "If you're going to commit to something, find a way to get it done"00:36:00

Allison Gaillard is excited to have Taylor Baird as a guest on the show. Taylor represents the Women's Resource Center and discusses her husband Trey Baird's running journey. Taylor initially started running in Birmingham to get in shape but realized she wasn't a fan of racing. After meeting Trey, they didn't run together much due to their differing paces. However, after having children, Taylor got back into running with a friend, and they participated in the Azalea Trail Run. They now enjoy walking more than running. On the other hand, Trey got into running during medical school and eventually ran marathons and Ironman races.

Taylor and her friends love to support Trey and his running adventures. They've cheered him on in various races across the country and have made it a family affair, with their children even riding bikes alongside Trey during training.

One key lesson from running for Trey is the importance of commitment and preparation. His favorite races include the Boston Marathon and the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C. Taylor also loves the Marine Corps Marathon for its emotional impact.

Taylor discusses her involvement with the Women's Resource Center (WRC) and the valuable resources it provides to women in need. She highlights three main areas of the WRC's work: Intervention, Empowerment, and Prevention. Taylor emphasizes the importance of community support, volunteerism, and donations for the WRC, as it is a non-government-funded organization that relies on the generosity of individuals and businesses to carry out its mission.

Allison Gaillard and Karla McInnis discuss her running journey. Karla initially had reservations about running, especially during her time in high school and college when she was involved with military training programs. However, she eventually gained the confidence to start running again, setting small goals for herself. She talks about her experience with the B12K race and the Memorial 5k, highlighting the emotional moments and camaraderie with fellow runners and veterans.

Karla's running journey has taught her the importance of setting achievable goals and persevering, no matter where you start. She recalls a challenging race experience at the "Doing it in the Bush" race but emphasizes that it doesn't deter her from participating again. She acknowledges that races can be tough at times but encourages a positive mindset.

When asked for advice for someone starting running, Karla suggests starting small and gradually increasing the intensity or duration of workouts. She emphasizes the importance of taking it one step at a time and making progress at your own pace. She advises people to give themselves grace and set goals, encouraging them to pursue whatever they desire.

Karla talks about her involvement with American Cancer Society and promotes the Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on October 28th, inviting others to participate and enjoy the activities.

11 Oct 2023Bras Across the Causeway00:25:51

Bras Across the Causeway is a charity run organized by Kathy Smith. The event was inspired by a conversation she had with radio host Matt McCoy in 2016 about finding a way to give back to the community and support breast cancer patients. They came up with the idea of a 5k run with a unique twist: stringing bras across the causeway. They started collecting donated bras and have amassed thousands of them, which they string up during the event to raise awareness for their cause.

The money raised from the race entry fees goes into an account to support breast cancer patients' needs, such as gas, groceries, housing, clothing, daycare, and even covering copays and special medical tests. The funds are managed by the Providence Foundation, which works closely with patients to understand their unique needs.

The race day is a lively and heartwarming event, featuring a survivor tent, a survivor walk, a 5k run, a one-mile run, and various vendors, including Cammie's Old Dutch ice cream and Hall's sausage. The event is a celebration of community support and a testament to the power of people coming together to help those affected by breast cancer. It's grown in popularity over the years and continues to positively impact the local community.

25 Oct 2023Dave McDonald - "Move with purpose"01:03:31

Allison Gaillard welcomed Dave McDonald, a Patreon supporter, to discuss his running journey. Dave initially started running in 2018 as part of a health journey to lose weight and be more active for his family. He lost 70 pounds within a year and decided to take on the Azalea Trail 10K in 2019, which marked his first significant running endeavor.

Tragically, Dave's best friend passed away during this time, and running became his therapy to cope with the loss. After completing the 10K, he became hooked on running and set his sights on more challenging goals.

He completed a 50K in 2022, followed by a 50-mile ultra in 2023. Dave talked about the balance between running and family life, noting the importance of effective communication with his wife, Katie, to maintain equilibrium. He also shared his desire to help others achieve their running goals, especially within his family.

01 Nov 2023Matt Garrett - "Do not take your ability for granted"01:02:07

Allison Gaillard and Matt Garrett discuss Matt's running journey, which began in his childhood when he started running with his father. He participated in cross country and track in middle and high school but stopped running after high school. However, he returned to running while preparing for the police academy. Matt's running journey includes obstacle course racing, adventure racing, and road racing.

One significant lesson Matt has learned from running is not to take his physical ability for granted. He emphasizes that being able to run or engage in physical activities is a precious gift that many people don't have. He was reminded of this when a friend with health issues expressed a desire to run but couldn't. Matt's experience has motivated him to make the most of his abilities and encourages others to do the same.

Matt emphasizes the importance of seizing life's opportunities and giving your all because "this life is not a rehearsal." Matt expresses his gratitude for being part of the podcast and commends its role in connecting people within the running community.

Allison Gaillard interviews Meredith Nations to discuss her love for running, sports, and pickleball. Despite having a history as an athlete, she faced challenges with weight gain during college, which led to various starts and stops in her running journey.

She also battled a Coca-Cola addiction, but managed to quit the habit and began working with a friend who encouraged her to consistently run again. She regained her health, losing 80 pounds, but faced another setback with knee problems leading to surgeries and a temporary halt to running. Meredith shares her emotional struggle during this period and how she felt isolated from the running community. However, with perseverance and physical therapy, she managed to return to running and even joined the Run for God run club which provided a supportive community.

Meredith also identifies the importance of not taking running for granted and maintaining a healthy sense of perspective, viewing running as part of her identity rather than its entirety. She concludes with advice for people wanting to start running, emphasizing starting small, ensuring good shoes, and practicing regular stretching.
