09 Oct 2024Anders Limpar Special: My Boyhood Dream | Goodison Park: My Home00:56:24
Chris Beesley speaks to Anders Limpar, the man described by Everton’s last trophy-winning manager Joe Royle as “A football genius” and “the most-talented player I ever worked with,” in the latest episode of Goodison Park: My Home. Despite hailing from Solna, on the edge of Sweden’s capital city of Stockholm, Limpar, explains how he was actually a boyhood Blue with his affiliation with Everton going back much longer than his three-year playing stint with the club between 1994-97.  The 59-year-old, who had already been a League Championship winner with Arsenal before he came to Merseyside, speaks poignantly about his friendship with the late Kevin Campbell and also recalls the scramble for his signature when his time at Highbury came to an end. Limpar speaks candidly about his part in ‘The Great Escape’ against Wimbledon, the change of manager from Mike Walker to Joe Royle, winning the FA Cup against Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United and his combination both on and off the field with fellow winger Andrei Kanchelskis who inadvertently helped him to learn Russian. It’s another generous portion of True Blue nostalgia with our 10th guest so far as we celebrate the final season of ‘The Grand Old Lady’ with one of her greatest mercurial talents. 15 Feb 2019Royal Blue: Bramley-Moore key change, the future of Onyekuru and Gueye, and reminiscing about Tommy00:43:36
Is confidence rising that Everton will deliver on a new stadium after a series of failed moves? And are the club softening their understandably cautious wording over Bramley-Moore?They are the questions that kick-off the latest Royal Blue podcast, hosted as ever by our Everton FC correspondent Phil Kirkbride, and featuring head of sport Dave Prentice as well as Chris Beesley and Paul Wheelock.Talk then turns to forgotten Blues forward Henry Onyekuru. There is hope the club will finally be granted a work permit for the Nigerian forward but the question is... is he needed? And how serious can you take his exploits in Turkey and Belgium? The panel then discuss another Everton player who has slipped completely out of the picture, Luke Garbutt, who has this week been told to change position. Just why hasn't the left-back's career progressed as everyone thought?Garbutt's future looks away from Goodison Park and judging by an interview he has given in France, so too could Idrissa Gueye. What will Marco Silva make of the midfielder's words? If Gueye does go, he may not be as fondly remembered as Thomas Gravesen, who is the subject of a new book. The panel share their favourite stories and memories about the Dane before Prenno tells a story about Gravesen's one-time midfield partner Alex Nyarko that beggars belief. 30 Aug 2024Mangala DEAL! Calvert-Lewin dispute! Maupay Exit! Bournemouth Preview01:13:57
Join Ian Croll and Joe Thomas for Friday’s Royal Blue Podcast as they discuss the latest news coming out of Everton on Deadline Day as well as preview Saturday’s encounter with Bournemouth!  Everton are set to do business on the final day of the summer transfer window. A deal for Orel Mangala is set to be completed and would become the Blues’ seventh signing of the summer. Elsewhere, there is the potential for further intrigue. Dominic Calvert-Lewin could become one of the biggest stories of the day should a club test the water for the forward.  Out of contract next summer and yet to sign on fresh terms, a serious bid for the 27-year-old would force Everton to weigh up the value of an incoming fee against the risk of losing the club’s main forward. Join Ian Croll, Joe Thomas and Gav Buckland as they discuss the latest on Everton and Nottingham Forest’s points deductions.  In what has become a farcical situation, the lads don’t hold back on the absurd explanation from the Premier League’s Independent commission . Nottingham Forest have received a four-point deduction for breaching Premier League spending rules. Forest were yesterday informed of the verdict, handed down by an independent commission after a two-day hearing earlier this month. The decision plunges the club deeper into the relegation fight, dropping them into the bottom three, one point behind Luton Town, who now sit above the dotted line. However , his farcical Premier League season has plummeted to new depths of absurdity, exposed in a single paragraph deep into the explanation of the four-point deduction handed to Nottingham Forest. #EFC #EvertonFC #Live Everton FC podcasts from the Liverpool ECHO’s Royal Blue YouTube channel. 30 Jan 2019Post-Game: 10-man Everton scrap their way to vital victory over toothless Huddersfield Town00:10:59
It wasn't pretty, and in true Everton fashion, they certainly made it hard work for themselves, but there was no disputing that the 1-0 win at Huddersfield Town on Tuesday evening was desperately needed, given it came on the back of the low point of a season that has badly unravelled in the last two months. It was a win secured by top-scorer Richarlison's 11th goal of the campaign and achieved in spite of the fact that substitute Lucas Digne was sent off midway through the second half after coming on for the injured Leighton Baines.Host Paul Wheelock kicks us off before handing the reins over to our Everton FC correspondent Phil Kirkbride, Chris Beesley, who was also at the John Smith’s Stadium for us, and Blues fan Tom Clarke, who deliver their big-match verdicts. We also get the latest on Idrissa Gueye, the transfer target for Paris Saint-Germain who missed the match through injury. 09 Apr 2020Special: Matt Jackson recalls Everton's 4-1 thrashing of Tottenham and how Joe Royle's 'Dogs of War' prevented the so-called 'Dream Final'00:16:02
Everton's 4-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the 1995 FA Cup semi-final is regarded as one of the Blues' greatest-ever displays - particularly in a big game - and the best performance of Joe Roye's tenure as manager. April 9, 2020 is the 25th anniversary of the match at Elland Road and in a Royal Blue podcast special, Chris Beesley speaks to Matt Jackson - scorer of the opening goal that afternoon. The former Blues right-back discusses why he believes his side enjoyed a psychological advantage before a ball was even kicked, his header from Andy Hinchcliffe's corner kick, the mystery behind super super Daniel Amokachi's introduction into the game and the delight of 'The Dogs of War' at denying the so-called 'Dream Final' between Spurs and the previous season's double winners, Manchester United. Jackson also offers his opinion on the current Everton side under Carlo Ancelotti and what he really thought about his old team-mate Duncan Ferguson going into management. 13 Sep 2024Everton takeover as Textor remains in pole position! Aston Villa Preview! 01:18:35
John Textor is the frontrunner to take over at Everton but has to divest his interest in Crystal Palace first.  The club moved to distance themselves from comments made by prospective new owner on Thursday. Ian Croll, Chris Beesley and Joe Thomas make the starting line-up for today’s Royal Blue Podcast as they analyse Everton’s draw with Crystal Palace and discuss the latest on the points deduction.  Everton failed to secure their first Premier League win in over two months against Crystal Palace but they came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw that takes them out of the relegation zone on goal difference. 09 Dec 2019View from the Gwladys: Big Dunc’s impact and how long can it last?00:50:23
A humiliating Merseyside derby defeat and the sacking of Marco Silva left Everton’s season in tatters but all that was forgotten on Saturday afternoon as the Blues secured a 3-1 victory at Goodison Park against Frank Lampard’s Chelsea. In this week’s View from the Gwladys Street, Ian Croll, Ben Crawford and Gary Callaghan are beaming from ear to ear as they sit down and discuss the events of the last few days. Duncan Ferguson was appointed caretaker manager on the Thursday, much to the surprise of many, but by late Saturday afternoon, it was a decision truly justified. The impact Ferguson had was extraordinary. A man loved by the fans, he took to his interim role like a duck to water. What does the future have in store for the big man? As to be expected, everything is still up in the air with Everton expected to appoint a permanent manager. It’s anyone’s guess as to when that will be. Until that time, Ferguson will stay in charge of first team duties with a huge game at Old Trafford on the horizon. 16 May 2019Lars Jacobsen on overcoming injury heartbreak to play in the 2009 FA Cup final, working with Moyes and playing with Arteta, Cahill and Baine00:44:58
For Evertoninans, Saturday's FA Cup final between Manchester City and Watford may well refresh the memory of the last time their side reached a Wembley showpiece. That came in 2009 when, despite Louis Saha scoring the fastest goal in FA Cup final history, the Blues were eventually beaten 2-1 by a Chelsea team in their pomp. An unlikely substitute for David Moyes that boiling hot day was Lars Jacobsen, who came on for Tony Hibbert at half-time in what would prove to be his last appearance for the club. And nearly 10 years on, our Everton FC reporter Adam Jones caught up with the former Denmark international for a special Royal Blue podcast. In it, Jacobsen explains how he eventually became a Blue, with a little help from Tommy Gravesen, what it was like playing alongside the likes of Mikel Arteta, Tim Cahill and Leighton Baines, and what is was like playing for Moyes, who got his man at the second time of asking. Life at Goodison could not have got off to a worse start for Jacobsen but he did fight his way back to fitness to battle Hibbert for the right-back spot, which culminated in that afternoon at Wembley. The 39-year-old recalls what was going through his mind when Moyes told him he would be coming on in the second half, and why he made a decision to leave after the game. The decision to join up with Sam Allardyce at Blackburn Rovers was one he still regrets seeing as he proudly calls Everton the biggest and best club he played for in his career. And before this must-listen podcast ends, Jacobsen gives his opinion on the current Blues crop, who he watches regularly as a pundit back home in Denmark. Enjoy. 05 Sep 2019View from the Gwladys Street: A fluid front four, a signing surprise, and a maturing Pickford00:39:53
They say a week is a long time in politics, especially in this country at the moment, but a week can also be a long time in football, especially being an Everton supporter. After being left completely down in the dumps by the defeat and performance at Aston Villa, this week's View from the Gwladys Street Blues fans' podcast is a much more uplifting listen after back-to-back victories for Marco Silva's side. Max Carlyle, Anthony McEllin and Connor O'Neill join host Paul Wheelock to look back on the wins over Lincoln City and Wolves, and much more else besides. Including... the impact made by Fabian Delph, whether Sunday's two-goal hero Richarlison is a centre-forward in-waiting, the improvement in Gylfi Sigurdsson and whether that has to do with his seemingly lack of chemistry with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the surprise at just how good Alex Iwobi has been, and whether we are seeing a more mature Jordan Pickford. Oh, and backing Everton to break into the top six this season. We told you it was more upbeat! For information regarding your data privacy, visit acast.com/privacy Learn more about your ad choices. 17 Jun 2024Kevin Campbell Special Tribute00:31:40
Everton great Kevin Campbell passed away over the weekend. The striker, whose legendary spell in the final stages of the 1998-99 campaign helped lift the Blues to safety, was aged 54. News Campbell was battling serious illness had emerged earlier this month, prompting an outpouring of heartfelt messages of support. Kevin Campbell's son Tyrese paid an emotional tribute to his father following the Everton great's death at the age of just 54, which has triggered a wave of tributes from across football. Campbell arrived at Goodison Park on loan from Turkish side Trabzonspor in the spring of 1999 with the club's Premier League status at risk. His run of nine goals in five games led the Blues to safety and paved the way for a permanent move. In total, the former Arsenal and Nottingham Forest star scored 51 goals across 164 appearances for Everton, including a fourth-minute Merseyside derby winner against Liverpool on September 27, 1999. It is a result that remains the Blues’ most-recent success at Anfield in front of supporters. Host Phil Kirkbride is back with the second and final Royal Blue podcast of the week, and just like last Friday, he is joined by Dave Prentice, Adam Jones and Paul Wheelock.Marco Silva, in contrast, has not yet had the luxury of naming the same side, and the panel discuss whether he should make changes for the visit of a club that Everton have a remarkable record against at Goodison Park. But will the atmosphere be different compared to the last time Fulham came to town? Roberto Martinez is brought up for the first, but certainly not the last time, in the podcast, before talk turns to the public persona of the manager currently in the Everton hotseat.Silva's midfield options for the clash with the Cottagers are discussed, as is the situation surrounding Yerry Mina, and who should fill his shoes while the big summer signing attempts to overcome a new injury problem.Fresh from Jordan Pickford putting pen to paper on a six-year deal, Phil kicks off an interesting debate about which Blues player should be next in line for a new contract, and what the future holds for Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines, before the show rounds off with something that may have gone unnoticed at the Emirates last weekend.Enjoy. 04 Jun 2019Royal Blue: What West Ham's interest in Andre Gomes means for Everton and what might have been for Ronald Koeman00:50:32
After a quiet few weeks since the end of the Premier League season, things are start to happen at Everton, and just after your latest Royal Blue podcast was recorded, captain Phil Jagielka announced he would be leaving the club after 12 years of sterling service once his contract expires. Host Phil Kirkbride had quizzed Dave Prentice, Adam Jones and Gavin Buckland on why it was taking so long to get a resolution on the long-serving defender's future. But while we now have that, the question over whether fellow Blues stalwart Leighton Baines will sign a new deal remains unanswered. Why that is the case is discussed here, as is West Ham United's pursuit of Andre Gomes. Should Everton be worried? Also on the agenda is the club's apparent desire to appoint a certain Luis Boa Morte as Marco Silva's new number two before talks turns to Phil's recent interview with former Blues boss Ronald Koeman. Did Koeman deserve more time at Goodison? And would he have fared better under the club's current structure? Whatever your thoughts on Koeman - and let's face it, sympathy for the Dutchman is in short supply - it makes for interesting listening. Enjoy. 26 Jun 2019Royal Blue: The return of Andre Gomes and what next for Everton's transfer window00:37:23
There's an unsurprising theme in this week's special midweek Royal Blue podcast. Everton completed the signing of Portuguese midfield maestro Andre Gomes late Tuesday and host Sam Carroll acted swiftly to pull together a crack team of pundits to discuss the transfer. The ECHO's Head of Sport Dave Prentice is joined by Everton reporter Adam Jones and Paul Wheelock as the guests wax lyrical about Gomes' potential at Goodison Park. As well as the bonus of securing a cut-price £22m deal for the 25-year-old, the importance of trusting Marco Silva, Marcel Brands and Bill Kenwright at the negotiating table is discussed, as well as who will be next through the doors at Finch Farm. Kurt Zouma's name crops up, naturally, while the future of Morgan Schneiderlin and several Everton misfits are all pondered. 21 Sep 2018Royal Blue: Mindsets, Mina, Marco and the weight of expectation on returning Richarlison00:30:15
It's been over 22 years since Everton won at Arsenal - and the Royal Blue podcast are trying to find reasons why that run will end this weekend!Phil Kirkbride is joined by Dave Prentice, Adam Jones and Paul Wheelock as the panel look back at why the Blues have endured such a miserable time in that part of North London and what needs to change. The panel talk about mindsets, how Marco Silva should set up his defence, if Yerry Mina needs to come in from the start and whether or not a change in formation is required. And if last season's abysmal performance in the 5-1 defeat at the Emirates was a failed attempt to replicate the tactics of Swansea City, as Sam Allardyce revealed, then who should Silva be trying to emulate this weekend? The return of Richarlison, and the expectation which is on his shoulders, is talked about as is Theo Walcott who plays against his old club.Sit back, relax and enjoy. Reaction and debate following Everton’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City at the King Power Stadium. 26 Mar 2019Royal Blue: Why the Blues are looking at Rafael Leao and taking inspiration from Tottenham's new ground00:45:50
It's the first of two Royal Blue podcasts for the week with host Phil Kirkbride joined by regular guests Dave Prentice, Adam Jones and Chris Beesley, who kick things off by debating Michael Ball's latest column for the ECHO in which he calls on Everton to sign a back-up goalkeeper this summer. Does Jordan Pickford need fresh competition? And is a new number two a luxury the club cannot afford? The panel have their say before talk turns to transfer target Rafael Leao and whether a move for the 'Portuguese Mbappe' will solve a long-standing problem. That in turns leads to a discussion about the work of Marcel Brands, and the differences between the Dutchman and his predecessor Steve Walsh. Before the podcast rounds off with a detailed chat about Tottenham's impressive new stadium, what inspiration the Blues can take from it as they look to Bramley-Moore Dock, and also including the issue of single-tier stands, statues and naming rights. 05 Aug 2024Everton INJURY CONCERNS! Calvert-Lewin DILEMMA!01:15:46
Everton’s summer fitness drive has been punctured by injuries. The best performance of pre-season so far was built on the return of a number of key stars as the Blues achieved a comfortable victory over Preston North End. But it was also an afternoon marred by new fitness concerns. There were several absences as Sean Dyche acted with caution as he sought to protect his squad. With just under a fortnight to go until the start of the Premier League season, with Brighton & Hove Albion set for Goodison Park on August 17, here is an overview of the condition of the Everton squad. 28 Jun 2024Premier League transfer warning to Everton | Royal Blue01:11:05
The Premier League has reminded Everton as well as the 19 other rival clubs that they will be punished for deceitful playing trading - just days after several clubs conducted a string of deals. Everton are one of several Premier League clubs who have been scrutinised in recent days as they signed England under-20 international Tim Iroegbunam from Aston Villa for £9m, while academy graduate Lewis Dobbin moved to Villa Park in a similarly-priced deal. As a result of such deals, Everton, Villa and Chelsea have been accused of trying to boost their finances to comply with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules before the end of the financial year on June 30. Now, according to the Telegraph, the Premier League has written to all 20 clubs to remind them that they will be punished for transfer activity that is deemed fraudulent. The report adds the Premier League will be able to request details from clubs on how negotiations took place, to ensure the transactions were conducted in "good faith". If in any case the Premier League decides that a transfer was not conducted at "arm's length", they will be able to impose fair market value rules on a deal to ensure there is no "false inflation" on transfers and commercial deals. As a result, the Premier League can demand a return of a transfer fee, in full or in part, if it is judged that the fee has been inflated and the deal was not conducted in "good faith". Join Ian Croll, Joe Thomas and Gav Buckland as they discuss the latest news coming out of Goodison Park.  Everton FC podcasts from the Liverpool ECHO’s Royal Blue YouTube channel. 22 Feb 2024What is going on? Points Deduction Appeal | Dyche Presser Reaction00:33:03
Ian Croll and Connor O’Neill are recalled to the starting lineup for today’s Royal Blue Podcast as they discuss the latest on the points deduction and the 777 takeover. Also, Sean Dyche spoke to the media this afternoon ahead of his side’s game with Brighton on Saturday. The lads breakdown what the gaffer had to say with the latest on the appeal and injuries on the agenda.  The Blues are back in action after a disappointing showing on Monday night. A late header from Amadou Onana rescued a 1-1 draw for Everton against Crystal Palace, but the performance was under-par and a huge opportunity was missed to pull clear of relegation trouble. Still, Luton Town's loss to Liverpool on Wednesday means Dyche's side go into the weekend outside the relegation zone. And while they have not won since December in the top flight, last season they produced a remarkable display to triumph 5-1 at the Seagulls. That game will no doubt be one of the talking points today, not to mention the ongoing wait for a result of Everton's appeal against their punishment for breaches of spending rules. #EFC #EVERTONFC #EVERTONFOOTBALLCLUB Everton FC podcasts from the Liverpool ECHO’s Royal Blue YouTube channel. 03 Mar 2025Joe Royle Special: Exclusive With Everton Legend | Goodison Park: My Home00:52:25
Joe Royle – the only living person to achieve legendary status at Everton as both a player and manager (the other being the late, great Howard Kendall) – invites Chris Beesley to his house for a special episode of Goodison Park: My Home. Royle, who grew up in Norris Green, attending Ranworth Square Primary School before going on to Quarry Bank High School where he developed into a talented all-round sportsman, also excelling in the high jump and swimming, became Everton’s youngest-ever player at the time when he was controversially picked ahead of ‘The Golden Vision’ Alex Young by Harry Catterick to make his debut at Blackpool aged 16 years and 282 days on January 15, 1966, a record that stood for over 42 years until it was eclipsed by Jose Baxter. Although Royle was part of the Blues team that lost 1-0 after extra time to West Bromwich Albion in the 1968 FA Cup final, alongside the ‘Holy Trinity’ midfield of Kendall, Colin Harvey and Alan Ball, plus the likes of captain Brian Labone, goalkeeper Gordon West, fellow Scouser Tommy Wright and his good friend John Hurst, he was top scorer in Everton’s 1969/70 League Championship-winning side. Once reaching 29 goals in all competitions in 1968/69, by the time Royle’s Everton career had finished, he had netted more times for the club (119) than any player since Dixie Dean. Returning to Goodison Park as manager in November 1994 with the team bottom of the Premier League, he saved the Blues from relegation while also becoming the only manager in Everton history to win a trophy in his first season in charge. Some 30 years on, Royle remains the last Everton manager to secure major silverware for the club, while the following campaign (1995/96), he steered them to sixth place, which was their only top-half finish in the first decade of the Premier League. Now 75, he explains how the circumstances behind his departure continue to perplex him but as a True Blue, he was delighted to return to the Goodison hot seat for one last time as caretaker boss alongside his former player David Unsworth against Norwich City in 2016. 14 Nov 2018View from the Gwladys Street: Silva’s defensive dilemma and Bernard’s form under the microscope00:29:45
In this week’s fan podcast, host Ian Croll is joined by Paul Wheelock and Mark Frances. A point at Stamford Bridge was well deserved by Marco Silva’s men on Sunday afternoon and along with all the positives following the final whistle, it’s a fair assessment to say Everton felt a sense of frustration that they couldn’t do more to win the game. That’s how far the Blues have come, however. Going to Stamford Bridge, matching Chelsea for 90 minutes to come away with a decent result, and yet, to still be disappointed. The lads look back and react to the 0-0 draw and delve into a number issues stemming from the game. Level of officiating, Bernard’s form, Mina debut, injury blows and the defensive dilemma Marco Silva now faces are all on the agenda. 07 May 2019The inside story of one of the most important days in Goodison history 25 years on - Everton 3 Wimbledon 200:33:07
We have a very special Royal Blue podcast for you looking back on one of the most dramatic and important days in Everton's history - the nerve-shredding 3-2 victory over Wimbledon at Goodison Park on the final day of the 1993-94 that ensured the club's Premier League survival in the most unlikely of fashions. The Blues were staring down the abyss before and during the never-to-be-forgotten encounter but, thanks to an incredible comeback and results elsewhere, they got the win they needed and eventually finished two points and three places above the relegation places. And to remember the match, which took place 25 years ago today, we have spoken to three of the players who played a starring role. Dave Prentice, our head of sport, caught up with two-goal hero Graham Stuart and Ian Snodin while Chris Beesley, one of our football writers at the ECHO, caught up with Barry Horne, whose stunning long-range strike brought Everton level after the man affectionately known as 'Diamond' had halved the lead the Crazy Gang of Wimbledon had opened up. It's a superb and fascinating listen on day which will live long in the memory, albeit one that not a single Blue will ever want to go through again. Enjoy. 08 Apr 2024Everton hit with new points deduction | Royal Blue00:37:52
Everton have been deducted a further two points after the outcome of their second Profit and Sustainability Rules case this season was announced. After Everton handed an initial 10-point deduction in November – the biggest sporting sanction in 135 years of English top flight football at the time – which was later reduced to six points on appeal, the club were charged with a second breach of Premier League PSR in mid-January; which began a 12-week disciplinary process. Everton set out its position in a three-day hearing last month amid what has been a process lacking in clarity or guidelines. The appeal panel for Everton’s first charge said that there had been two “legal errors” in the club’s original verdict but then the independent commission handling Nottingham Forest’s charge only handed them a four-point deduction for a breach 77% larger than Everton’s, acknowledged it could not be sure how even the reduced punishment handed to the Blues had been calculated. 02 May 2018Royal Blue podcast: The Dixies, Sam Allardyce & Davy Klaassen's future00:38:24
Davy Klaassen has been told he's not going to be sold by Everton this summer - but does he realistically have a future at Goodison? The Royal Blue podcast team are back around the debating table after a night at The Dixies where Jordan Pickford was the big winner.Everton reporter Phil Kirkbride, Head of Sport Dave Prentice and Tony Scott all went home empty handed but returned with plenty to discuss.Pickford, double-award winner Wayne Rooney and Everton's Goal of the Season are all pored over, as are the comments from chairman Bill Kenwright who vowed that every one of the club's summer signings will still be Everton players next season.Klaassen has made just 14 appearances while Sandro Ramirez, out on loan at Sevilla, has only 15 under his belt yet the chairman is refusing to give up on them.Everton have not made the future of manager Sam Allardyce as clear, however, and his brief appearance on stage, his words, the isolated heckles and his media strategy are discussed on this episode. 27 Jul 2019Phil Kirkbride's Pre-Season Diary #7: Marco Silva's transfer message and Dominic Calvert-Lewin's No 9 aim00:14:32
Welcome to the seventh entry into our Everton FC correspondent Phil Kirkbride's pre-season tour diary. Whereas our last podcast was positively upbeat after the club unveiled designs for their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, the back-to-back defeats to Sevilla and Mainz in the Opel Cup, combined with a lack of activity in the transfer market, means this, our latest offering on the Royal Blue podcast channel, is more downbeat. Not that you can read too much in pre-season, but as Phil makes clear, Blues boss Marco Silva believes there is a lot of work to be done and off the pitch before the season gets under way at Crystal Palace on August 10. But will there be enough time to do it? Phil discusses that, analyses Silva's honest and candid post-match interview, and reveals Dominic Calvert-Lewin's aim after returning to training. 17 Sep 2018Royal Blue: Everton's defeat to West Ham, Marco Silva's conundrum with Cenk Tosun and David Moyes' title contenders comments00:34:31
The Royal Blue podcast team have gathered to sift through the wreckage of Marco Silva's first defeat as Everton manager. The Blues fell to a 3-1 defeat to West Ham at Goodison on Sunday and the panel have tried to make sense of a sobering loss.Host Phil Kirkbride asks Gav Buckland, Tony Scott and Adam Jones to pick their one reason why it went wrong for Silva's side after the Hammers lifted themselves off the foot of the table with their first points of the campaign.Silva was left to reflect on a series of mistakes but the manager also rued a number of missed chances with Cenk Tosun's barren run in front of goal continuing. And so we ask if the time is right to drop Tosun from the starting XI and replace him with Richarlison. To round off the first podcast of the week we discuss David Moyes' comments that the Everton side he left behind in 2013 was a striker away from being Premier League title contenders.Sit back, relax and enjoy.
