At 17 she won Talentville USA, a nationwide talent contest sponsored by Coca Cola - the equivalent today to America’s/Britain’s Got Talent - culminating in finals in New York, but she chose instead to go to Indiana University to study for a degree in music before joining the Metropolitan Opera National Company and subsequently touring all over the United States and Canada. However, her love for Musical Theatre totally overwhelmed that of her love for opera…and a very happy career in musicals has followed. She arrived in London in 1971 to star as Magnolia in SHOW BOAT with Dame Cleo Laine at the Adelphi Theatre - the show was such a smash-hit that it ran for a then-record 2 years and 3 months. The production was recorded and presented on the Tony Awards as the best International production of that season. Lorna fell in love with London, staying in the UK to star in many musicals (SIDE BY SIDE BY SONDHEIM, HELLO DOLLY! (with Danny La Rue), and THE KING AND I among them), the European premiere of CLOSER THAN EVER, SEVEN DEADLY SINS in Monaco’s Princes Grace Theatre, concerts in all the major London venues (Barbican, Royal Festival Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Palladium, Theatre Royal Drury Lane) and worldwide with the major symphony orchestras with conductors Skitch Henderson and Don Pippin (Carnegie Hall, New York Town Hall, Brisbane Cultural Center, Napa Valley Opera House), the Hong Kong Arts Festival, extensive television appearances including The Royal Variety Performance and her own highly rated BBC series, MY SERENADE and LORNA DALLAS. . .MY MUSICAL WORLD.  http://WWW.LORNADALLAS.COM

21 May 2022Richard Skipper Celebrates All That Glitters with Ava Cherry 5/21/202201:02:00
For Video Edition, Please Click and Subscribe Here: https://youtu.be/zgDyh39y5TI Former fashion model, charismatic vocalist and devoted lover of David Bowie during his 1970s golden era, Chicago-born Ava Cherry waited for just the right moment to tell her story, and that moment is now... All That Glitters begins with Ava's musical inspirations, family allegiances, Catholic education and reaction to living on Chicago's South Side. Donning faded denim and "lots of fringe" during her early teen years, she frequents the all-black, opulent Regal Theater, where she dreams about performing live after watching Aretha Franklin and Michael Jackson. The free-spirited Ava finds an early path into the world of fashion and entertainment as a young model. Fast forward to a New York after-party, where Ava's then-manager introduces her to flame-haired David Bowie; he's instantly attracted to Ava's short-cropped, dyed hair and down-to-earth persona. Bowie notices something else: When entering the club Genesis, Ava, along with A-lister celebrities, had broken into song, so it was only natural that the still-rising star would ask her, "Can you sing?"  Finally, Ava returns home to embark on her debut recording project, Ripe, helmed by producer Curtis Mayfield (Super Fly). She then works on the follow-up, Streetcar Named Desire, with producer Bob Esty. While Ava is grateful for the opportunity to work with such gifted producers, there is a dark side; she sadly discovers that talent is not enough-Ava faces discrimination on the airwaves and her solo career struggles. Throughout this memoir, Ava recounts fascinating tales of memorable times spent in the orbit of a multitude of artists such as Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, The Rolling Stones, John Lennon and Yoko Ono and Bob Marley, among many others.

For Video Edition, Please Click and Subscribe Here: https://youtu.be/6vcHvOUB5Tc It was in Michael Stewart and Cy Coleman’s musical I Love My Wife (1977) – a satire on wife-swapping – that Gleason made her Broadway debut, playing Monica, for which she won a Theatre World Award. She returned to Broadway in a 1985 revival of Peter Nichols’s play Joe Egg. Along with Marlo Thomas and Olympia Dukakis, Gleason was a member of the opening-night cast of Andrew Bergman’s comedy Social Security (1986), for which Gleason won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play. Although she had already gained attention and honors for her stage work, her performance as the Baker’s Wife in Stephen Sondheim’s wry fairy-tale musical Into the Woods (1987) made her a Broadway leading lady. The musical itself won Tonys® for Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score, and Gleason earned a Tony® for Best Actress in a Musical. Her singing is preserved on the original Broadway cast recording. In the Thin Man-inspired musical Nick and Nora (1991) by Arthur Laurents, Charles Strouse, and Richard Maltby Jr., Gleason played the leading lady, and in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (2005). A familiar presence in movies and on television, Gleason appeared in two of Woody Allen’s films – as Tony Roberts’s embarrassed wife in Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) and as Allen’s spouse in Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989). In Boogie Nights, she played Mark Wahlberg’s abusive mother. On television, she was a regular on the CBS sitcom Love & War as the restaurant waitress Nadine Berkus. Other series in which Gleason appeared regularly are Hello, Larry; Temporarily Yours; Oh Baby; and Bette. She is married to the actor Chris Sarandon.

A must read for all Grease fans.” —Didi Conn, Grease’s “Frenchy” Grease opened downtown in the Eden Theatre February 14, 1972, short of money, short of audience, short of critical raves, and seemingly destined for a short run. But like the little engine that could, this musical of high school kids from the 1950s moved uptown. On December 8, 1979, it became the longest running show—play or musical—in Broadway history. Here are stories—some touching, some hilariously funny—from names you may recognize: Barry Bostwick, John Travolta, Adrienne Barbeau, Treat Williams, Marilu Henner, Peter Gallagher, and others you may not. Tom Moore directed the original Broadway production, eight national tours, and two London productions of Grease in the West End. He also directed Broadway’s Pullitzer Prize–winning ’night Mother, the subsequent film, and other Broadway productions receiving two Tony nominations. Moore directed many years of film and television, earning three Emmy nominations along the way. His most recent project was the documentary on the Flying Trapeze, The Flight Fantastic. Adrienne Barbeau won a Tony nomination and Theatre World Award for her performance as Rizzo in the original Broadway production of Grease. She has appeared in over four hundred films and television shows, including the hit series Maude and HBO’s Carnivale.

For Video Edition, Please Click and Subscribe Here: https://youtu.be/cL6WafJKZy8 John received national attention when Judy Garland sang his songs on The Tonight Show just a few months before she died. Before connecting with Judy, John wrote special comedy material for Lily Tomlin, Linda Lavin, and Eartha Kitt. His comedy number about a girl who fell in love with Mr. Clean attracted the attention of a famous ad agency, BBD&O, and he was offered a high-paying copywriter’s position. But, after a few weeks, John, feeling stifled, left the agency to make his way as a pianist, playing the songs he’d always loved -in clubs, at resorts, on the QE2 and even on a luxury train like the Orient Express. As a writer, collaborating with director Paul Bartel, John wrote the screenplay for a movie, Not For Publication and also the script for an episode of Steven Spielberg’s Amazing Stories; he also provided the musical scores for each of these with orchestrator Larry Hochman. With co-producer Bobbie Horowitz, John traveled to London to produce his own, film-noir satirical musical, The Betrayal of Nora Blake. “Funniest show of the year” said the reviewers. Most appropriately, today, we must mention the memoir John wrote about the thrilling eight weeks he spent as Judy Garland’s boyfriend, manager and songwriter.

One of the most commercially successful Broadway songwriters of his time, Herman was the composer and lyricist for a number of hit musicals, starting in the 1960s, that were characterized by an upbeat and optimistic outlook and what Herman called "the simple, hummable showtune". His shows include Hello, Dolly! (1964), at one time the longest-running musical in Broadway history, which also produced the hit title song for Louis Armstrong; Mame (1966), a vehicle for Angela Lansbury; and La Cage aux Folles (1984), the first hit Broadway musical about a gay couple. #richardskipper #composer #theatre Joining Richard are Jane Dorian, Harlan Boll, and Ann Kittredge. “You have a natural family and you have chosen a family,” Jane Dorian said. “We were a chosen family.” Dorian, a Los Angeles based realtor, is the goddaughter of Jerry Herman. The goddaughter connection dates to the late 1940’s when her mother, Carol, and Herman attended the University of Miami at the same time. “They were both 17 and were the two thinnest students on campus. It was the first day of school and they sort of circled each other on the quad, but nothing happened until that night when the new students got together. Jerry sat down at the piano and started playing. My mother sat next to him, the two started singing and making music.   Ann Kittredge is a lifelong performing artist. Or that she writes memorable songs that make you want to listen again and again and again. For years, Deni has been honing her craft as a violinist, singer, songwriter and performer. She is, simply, a musical total package. Her style ranges from pop to roots-rock to new folk. Anyone who’s heard her last few albums, especially the fiery, funny and fabulous Last Girl On Earth, and 2013’s It’s All Good, knows that Ms. Bonet brings something extra special to the table. With her latest album, Bright Shiny Objects, it extends to sheer, ultra-high voltage, genre-defying brilliance, with pure classical training and precision playing. She has performed at some of the most prestigious festivals, performing arts centers, summer concert series, colleges, clubs and house concerts throughout the US and around the world, including a recent sold-out concert at the legendary Carnegie Hall in New York City, concerts on the Great Wall of China, at the United Nations and at the White House for President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and the First Lady. In the nineties, Bonet relocated to London, where she worked with alternative rock legend, Robyn Hitchcock.
18 Jul 2022Richard Skipper Celebrates Paul Brogan 7/19/202201:07:00
For Video Edition, Please Click and Subscribe Here: https://youtu.be/BoQXAbvWjWo A Sprinkling of Stardust over the Outhouse is the long-awaited follow-up to Paul Brogan's highly successful first book, Was That a Name I Dropped? released in 2011. Paul came out as gay when he was ten in the early 1960s and faced a number of obstacles for doing so. He approached them without losing sight of who he was, eventually winning over the naysayers who urged him to be someone other than himself. A Sprinkling of Stardust is a true story that is rich in detail as it tells Paul's story with humor and heart as well as harsh and sometimes shockingly brutal reality. In the 1980s, playing the starring role in a musical production of Peter Pan, Paul Brogan sang the song "Never Never Land." The lyrics "I have a place where dreams are born, and time is never planned. It's not on any chart. You must find it with your heart. Never Never Land" had a great deal of meaning to Paul. Frequently he found himself getting choked up as he sang them. After coming out at the age of ten, Paul created his own Never Never Land. It represented a safe haven, a refuge where he could do and be himself. It was a place to which he escaped after being sexually abused, raped, and suffering a series of life-threatening health issues. His latest book is not a sequel to his 2011 best-seller, Was That a Name I Dropped? Instead, it is the rest of the story told in the same frank and honest manner that earned him kudos for the first book. It is funny, sexy, insightful, moving, and will have the viewer turning away in shock and horror in some instances. Ultimately, it is life. Paul's first book, "Was That a Name I Dropped?" was released in 2011 and was so successful that it hit number-one on numerous best-seller lists.

Adrienne spent twenty years as a picture editor at magazines, and book publishers. She and Bill met in 1986 while they were both working at Sports Illustrated. He had previously been a staff photographer for Life magazine throughout the 1960s and early 1970s until that magazine ceased publishing as a weekly. They later married and spent 28 years together until his death in 2013. Bill said that his former boss at Life magazine told him to “find a good picture editor and marry her.” Their final collaboration, Becoming Barbra, was begun in 1994 and finally published 24 years later. Publishers were mistakenly worried that Streisand would sue them. The book is filled with photographs that Bill made of Streisand in 1963 before she was a star, and then in 1966 as she was about to star in Funny Girl on Broadway. He had full access and cooperation. There were no publicist restrictions. Eppridge’s archive became a full-time business for them after back surgery in 2003 curtailed Bill’s ability to travel as much as he had done before while at Sports Illustrated. Adrienne left her full time job and they began to produce museum exhibits, began a long collaboration with Monroe Gallery to sell fine art prints, and published more books. 05 Aug 2022The Magic of Believing: Celebrating 43 Years in New York! 8/05/202201:08:00
For Video Edition, Please Click and Subscribe Here: https://youtu.be/1gXmmJR6ppk The Magic of Believing: An Excerpt from Broadway World, by Stephen Mosher Aug. 6, 2019 The musical autobiography that Mr. Skipper presented was a true celebration of a gifted entertainer and a resilient human being – and it was an absolute delight. The standing-room-only audience was a veritable who’s who of cabaret luminaries, all on hand to hear Skipper’s tale, and it did not disappoint. Armed with only a few songs and impeccable comic timing , Richard spent most of his time on stage regaling with stories that anyone could relate to – especially anyone with a childhood dream of going on the stage, anyone who had been a small-town misfit, anyone from the south, or anyone with fond remembrances of New York of the 70s/80s. The over-forty crowd was so captivated by Skipper that only one person was seen tiptoeing out for a restroom break, an unheard-of feat in a two hour evening of theatre. Skipper’s ability to paint a picture with words brought to life characters one might easily find in the writings of Willa Cather or Armistead Maupin, and it didn’t matter that the characters weren’t famous enough to give the audience a frame of reference because the true star of the night was the story being told. Oh, there were famous names, make no mistake: it would be impossible for Mr. Skipper to speak about his life without some delicious name-dropping, but it wasn’t essential, except in the case of Carol Channing, for obvious reasons. Skipper’s audience hung on his every word, riotous laughter and uncontrollable vocal response ringing in the air, and while much credit goes to his director, Jay Rogers, it was clear that the time for Richard Skipper to be celebrated is now. For Video Edition, Please Click and Subscribe Here: https://youtu.be/DjeqKdR7TnQ Although holding onto people, places and things is a human trait, it doesn't mean it's good for us. It keeps us stuck and attracts more negativity into our lives. In LET THAT GO! Kassíra McKee leaves no stone unturned. By presenting examples of her own and others' personal experiences, she clearly identifies the reasons we hold on and provides you with the powerful keys to blessing, releasing and completely forgiving them. Most important, Kassíra teaches you how to create and recite your own powerful, affirmative prayers, which assists you in quickly and energetically letting go of anything and anyone that is negative from your life experience - once and for all!K Kassíra's inspiring book Let That Go! epitomizes Václav Havel's hard won sentiment, "Hope is a state of mind, not a state of the world." She has done a thorough job of correlating the Buddhist concept of the creation of our individual karma - cause and effect - with the practice of blessing, releasing and complete forgiveness. I believe this is a valuable addition to the ongoing dialogue about how to live a meaningful and joyful life. I think anyone would benefit from reading and then doing the work to experience the benefit of Letting That. As we return, for our first return episode we are going to focus on the first 25 pages of the book. The more you send out, the more powerful the energy becomes, and the greater opportunity it has to team up with similar energy so that it can grow and flow, contributing to what she calls the "boomerang effect" - what you send out comes back to you multiplied.

For Video Edition, Please Click and Subscribe Here: https://youtu.be/BWd1atlJV2g In 1983 and barely out of high school, 2 teenagers, known to become The Latin Rascals had more ideas than dreams in the music business., Albert Cabrera and Tony Moran became a new kind of DJ collective. The New York Puerto Rican and Colombian duo grew up in the artistic melting pots of both Brownsville Brooklyn and Spanish Harlem. New York provided all sorts of inspiration from the creative pool of talent that surrounded the barrios of East Harlem and Brooklyn apartment projects. The friends teamed up after meeting at World Renowned Downtown records, where impoted dance music was sold and DJ’s came from all over spent time there. Once teamed up after discovering that we were looking to DJ in new ways of blending and overlaying multiple tracks. Each loved playing local playing block parties and selling mix tapes to promote themselves and did not realize that they were revolutionizing the art of mixing and editing without any former technical education. Their popularity grew so quickly that this noticeable new style of mixing was exactly what the radio programmers from the top radio stations in NYC. DJing on their own mix shows for 98.7 Kiss and then WKTU as featured for the historic afternoon mixshow, Paco’s Supermix, Tony and Albert were living more than a dream. An Artist/ Producer and one of the greatest remixers of all time, Arthur Baker (Hall & Oates/ Diana Ross) brought the Latin Rascals in right away to apply that exact Latin Rascal editing style to Arthur’s dance remix of “Born In The USA” by Bruce Springsteen and with his musical involvement in the BEAT STREET MOVIE sound track with producer Harry Belafonte.

These colonists- men, women, children, some seeking fortune, some seeking religious freedom – were later known as pilgrims. My Pilgrims today include Maria Gentile, Sudi ( RIck) Karatas, and Artemisia LeFay Artemisia LeFay is a dark cabaret performer, bellydancer, actress, classical mezzo soprano, pianist, and songwriter based in NYC. She specializes in the performance of vintage European cabaret and vaudeville, particularly the sonic rarities of 1920s Paris and Berlin. She is best known for her show "Ghosts of Weimar Past", a madcap, historically inspired "cabaret-sical", and will be performing her brand-new show "Phantoms of the Cabaret" several times this Autumn to usher in "spooky season" in the cabaret community. GHOSTS OF WEIMAR PAST: A love letter to those subversive artists and martyrs of the kabarett scene of Weimar Berlin. Performed by actor-musicians to fully immerse the audience in their musical time travel, it is the Ghosts' cry of warning not to let history repeat itself. Full of pathos and humor, GoWP features rare and painstakingly collected tunes by Spoliansky, Weill, Hollaender, and Jary. PHANTOMS OF THE CABARET: Continuing with Artemisia's penchant (dare we say obsession?) with the Other Side, she continues to conjure up spirits in a melange of vintage hot jazz, European cabaret, American neo-rag, and original dark cabaret pieces. www.sudirick.com www.facebook.com/rick.karatas www.youtube.com/user/sudirick www.instagram.com/sudirick/

Well, honey, here's the truth: we all have the right to say "no" and we're going to tell you why and how."-Kassira McKee
