We’ve all heard the phrase, “Do as I say, not as I do.” But we know that doesn’t work in parenting. Yet as busy parents, it’s easy to have times where we model behavior in front of our children that we do not want them to imitate despite knowing we are called to be imitators of Christ.

In today’s episode, Quinn challenges listeners to pause and reflect on 12 habits in their life that are influencing their children. And then ask themselves, “Do I like how I am doing or is there something I need to change?”

Here are the 12 Habits that are Discussed:

  • How we prioritize our relationship with God
  • How we talk about other people
  • How we model a good work ethic
  • How we handle technology
  • How we handle anger
  • How we apologize and repair
  • How we solve problems
  • How we take care of ourselves
  • How we handle mistakes
  • How we model marriage
  • How we approach differences
  • How we Listen

Mind Renewal Tip:

When we focus on being mentally, spiritually and physically healthy, we set our children up to be healthy too.

Scriptural Renewal:

Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ. 1 Corinthians 11:1

What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:9

Marriage is not meant to be a place where partners feel alone, but often couples can feel like they are functioning as roommates instead of spouses. And when partners feel alone in marriage, marriages can end up struggling.

So today’s episode is all about helping couples understand how to stop feeling alone by:

  • Focusing on seeing their partner as someone they love and cherish
  • Ending selfish behavior to prevent distance from building
  • Responding to your partner’s needs in a way that makes them feel seen

Mind Renewal Tip:

When a partner says they feel alone and another partner justifies it, they only increase the distance.

Scriptural Renewal Tip:

Two are better than one. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

Have you ever had your trust broken in a relationship and wanted to restore it but didn’t know how? • The power of repentance in healing broken relationships.
  • What habits need to be implemented to rebuild trust.
  • How transparency (not just honesty) plays a crucial part in rebuilding trust.

Trust Truths:

  • Some people trust easily. Others do not. (Most is indicative of their early relationships.)
  • Trust is not built overnight.
  • Trust in built in droplets but lost in buckets.
  • Trust keeps relationships strong and growing.
  • Trust keeps things secure. High view of self and others.
  • Broken trust breaks secure attachment. Breaks view of others.
  • To rebuild trust, you have to be patient and have grace.
  • We have to be people who can handle hard things to rebuild trust.

Mind Renewal Tip:

Trust in built in droplets but lost in buckets. So to rebuild trust, small actions matter.

Scripture Renewal Tip:

27 Jun 2023How to Set Boundaries with the Narcissists in Your Life to Protect Your Heart00:33:46

Join the mission! Visit donate.accessmore.com to help fund more episodes and shows like this.

Narcissism seems to be one of the main buzzwords of the last decade and has people often wondering if they have a narcissist in their own life. By definition, narcissists are egotistical and showy but lack empathy for others because they view people as something to make them look better instead of something to love and care for, which makes having relationships with them very difficult.

In today’s episode, Quinn helps listeners understand:

  • What a narcissist feels like on the inside and what causes it
  • How they act in fights and why that’s difficult
  • And ways to set boundaries with them in order to guard your heart

Mind Renewal Tip:

To be healthy with a narcissist, we have to understand that we will never change them. We will learn how to change our responses to them to be healthy.

Scripture Renewal Tip:

He says, “But know this, that in the last days, perilous times will come. For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away.” 2 Timothy 3:1-7

Some phrases to say when setting boundaries with a narcissist:

  • We can talk about that later. But let’s stick to the subject.
  • As a matter of self-respect, I cannot do that.
  • I can’t control how you feel about me.
  • We both have the right to our own opinions. I can accept how you feel, and I need you to accept that I feel differently.
  • I don’t like being spoken to in that manner, so I’m not going to engage.
  • You can say you believe that to be true, but I know the truth and that is not true.

     1. How too big of goals often stop us from making goals at all.
2. Why living for others keeps you from living for God

Often once we get started with a small something, the big something that we truly desire ot accomplish seems tangible to us!

Psalm 116:2

2. You cannot control what they think of you. So you should focus on what God thinks of you instead.
3. If they’re important, they should know.
4. These are the days.
5. Bonus +1 -- Life with God (even when you’re mad and confused) is better than life without God.

Have you ever felt like you have anxiety but don’t know how to reduce its presence in the moments when it’s overwhelming you? If so, you are not alone and in today’s episode Quinn teaches listeners that there is hope for utilizing your body to help calm and ground yourself in those anxious moments.

In the episode, Quinn teaches listeners:

  • One thought that is important for fighting back against anxiety
  • Three senses you can focus on to ground yourself in an anxious moment
  • One physical moment you can engage in to release dopamine in the brain

Anxiety often comes from feeling like you don’t know your purpose or believing that having anxiety has become your only purpose. But as believers, we have the hope that our purpose is so much greater than our circumstances.

Scripture Renewal Tip:

If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. 1 Corinthians 13: 1-3

Life is not one big story, but instead a compilation of seasons God uses to grow and refine us. When a season isn’t our favorite, it’s tempting to try and rush through the season we are in instead of allowing God to grow us and use our God-given gifts to bloom where we’re planted.

In this episode, Quinn talks about:
1. Different types of seasons God leads us through
2. What happens when we move from one season to the next
3.The best ways to bloom where you’re planted

Mind Renewal Tip:
All seasons have purpose. One isn’t better than another. Although one may be more fun than another. And the beauty of God at work in us is not rushing from one season to the next, but allowing God to give us the strength and wisdom to bloom where we are standing.

Scriptural Renewal Tip:
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance… Ecclesiastes 3:1-4

There are some people who have the ability to walk in a room and instantly light it up. After listening today, listeners will know 9 things that allow anyone to light up the room.

In the episode, Quinn discusses the power of:

1. Smiling and eye contact when you first walk in a room
2. The art of listening and responding
3. The power of importance in putting others at ease

When making others feel valued -- Confidence and arrogance are important to differentiate between. Arrogance makes others thing you are more important than them. Confidence is the ability to show others how you see their value because you also understand your own.

Scripture Renewal Tip:
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven". Matthew 5:14-16

One of the best yet complicated relationships we experience in life can often be with our in-laws. And while we want to love them, we can find ourselves struggling not to get annoyed or frustrated at them. Despite knowing that only makes things more complicated for everyone.

So in today’s episode, Quinn addresses how to improve this relationship by discussing these three simple tools:

  • Look for what they offer you. Not what they don’t offer you.
  • Pay attention to the way they meet your spouse’s needs in the way your family does not.
  • Communicate what needs to be said but start with your spouse.

Mind Renewal Tip:

There is not right or wrong to the way families do all things. It’s just our norms that make us feel that way.

Scripture Renewal Tip:

“Love must be completely sincere. Hate what is evil, hold on to what is good. Love one another warmly as Christians, and be eager to show respect for one another” Romans 12:9-10
