28 Jan 2025The Power of Caring Leadership with Traycee Mayer | RR29500:35:35

Leadership isn’t about titles—it’s about showing up with empathy, kindness, and genuine care for people.

In this episode, I sit down with Traycee Mayer, author of The Leadership Contradiction, to discuss her refreshing take on modern leadership. Traycee shares how her experience in the hospitality industry shaped her belief that caring for employees directly translates to better business outcomes. She emphasizes the importance of self-care for leaders, the power of connection, and how true leadership begins with being present and intentional.

Traycee also dives into the challenges of post-pandemic leadership, the value of in-person interactions, and how leaders can bridge the gap between professional results and emotional intelligence. Her message is clear: when leaders lead with love, trust, and compassion, everyone wins.

Highlights:

  • Discover how empathy and kindness aren’t just “soft skills”—they’re essential tools for strong leadership.
  • Learn why taking care of yourself is one of the most important steps to becoming an effective leader.
  • Explore the value of creating genuine connections with your team to build trust and long-term loyalty.
  • Understand how in-person interactions can strengthen team dynamics in ways virtual meetings can’t.
  • Gain insights into how intentional leadership practices create sustainable success for both teams and businesses.

11 Jun 2024Every Conversation Matters with Dr. Keith McNally | RR26200:46:50

I'm thrilled to speak to Dr. Keith McNally, a US Marine, educator, and a three-time podcast creator. He opens up about his battles with PTSD, including two attempted suicides and a heart attack. But here's the thing – instead of letting those dark moments define him, he found a way to turn his life around. Dr. Keith shares how COVID-19, which initially plunged him into despair, led him to reach out to strangers on LinkedIn, fostering meaningful connections that transformed his life.

And get this – Dr. Keith's mission doesn't stop at personal growth. He's gearing up for an epic thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail in 2025, all in the name of suicide prevention and supporting at-risk veterans. This episode is filled with inspiration, resilience, and the power of genuine connections in navigating life's challenges.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • How a supportive community can be the difference during difficult times.
  • About the power of building meaningful connections through personal development and relationship-building strategies

22 Sep 2020Good People Know Good People” – A Conversation with Patte Gilbert, Top L.A. Realtor, About Building a Successful Business on Referrals | RR69 00:34:18

The power of building relationships for business is never as important as it is in the real estate industry – and no one does it better than my guest, Patte Gilbert.  She has built her reputation as a top agent in the Calabasas & Hidden Hills areas of Southern California by caring about her clients.

She has been an agent for over 30 years and has represented over 3,000 clients. She has received countless industry awards and has been a Top Producer, nationwide, for Sotheby's International Real Estate. She is an Estate Agent, Director of Education and Resources and has participated in a global panel for all of Sotheby's franchises. Her representation of Sellers and Buyers spans a wide range of clientele that include first time home buyers, out-of-state relocations, entertainment industry executives and celebrities.

Patte is known for her strong sense of integrity, attention to detail and skilled negotiating. Most of her clients will acknowledge that some of her key phrases are, "You aren't going to buy something that I wouldn't live in" and "There are no problems, just solutions". These very characteristics are many of the reasons that her business is almost exclusively generated by past clients and referrals...a true testimonial to her successful real estate career.

Most importantly, Patte has stepped in and embraced the new technological and social media venues of doing real estate via the Internet. She also creates access to Internet applications that allow her buyers and sellers to view properties at their leisure.

Patte values her real estate successes but her personal success comes from helping others. Known in the community as being an advocate of education, she strongly supports the fundraising efforts of the local schools. When not 'cheering on the teams', she also contributes her time and charitable donations to Haven Hills, Pacific Boys Lodge, local Animal Shelters and Breast Cancer Awareness.

Patte can be reached at: pattegilbert@gmail.com

16 Aug 2022Beyond Thank You – the Power of Appreciation | RR16800:46:11

Chris Littlefield, founder of Beyond Thank You is all about bringing authenticity back to recognition. He talks about how those little things each day that we can do in our home, in our workplace and in our community can make the biggest difference. He is passionate about showing people that we care and making them feel appreciated.

Chris is an International and TEDx Speaker, has trained thousands of leaders, across six continents, on how to understand what their people want and need to be at their best.

In this episode you will learn:

  • We teach team building, but what we really need is relationship building.
  • To give people's windows into your world because we don't connect around perfection, we connect around the messy stuff.
  • Behind every position and behind every complaint is a need or a concern.
  • You're crafting an experience when you're running a training or a workshop or you're working with your team.
  • Nothing sends a message to someone faster that you care about them than remembering key things about them without them cueing you to remember.

You can learn more about Chris here: https://beyondthankyou.com

22 Oct 2024Build Stronger Connections through Active Listening with Deb Porter | RR28100:36:24

What if really listening could transform your relationships, both personal and professional?

In this episode, I chat with Deb Porter, a communication expert and founder of Hearing Out Life Drama. Deb is passionate about the power of listening and how it can change the way we connect with others. She believes that what many call soft skills should really be thought of as essential skills, and she shares how these skills have become the core of her work.

Deb's approach goes beyond just hearing words — she teaches the art of active listening, which involves fully engaging with both the content and the emotions behind what someone is saying.

We discuss how listening begins with us and why being calm and centered is the key to truly hearing others. Deb shares stories from her career, including how her experiences working in a funeral home helped her realize the importance of empathy and presence. She also talks about her work with teams and businesses, helping them develop stronger communication and leadership skills by focusing on empathy and understanding.

Highlights:

  • Deb emphasizes that listening starts with being calm and centered, so we can fully engage with what’s being communicated.
  • Active listening involves understanding both the content and the emotions behind what someone says, which builds stronger connections.
  • Empathy is a critical part of leadership, and learning to see things from another person’s perspective can transform team dynamics.
  • Many people feel they can’t talk to their close connections about personal issues, making platforms like Deb’s invaluable for honest communication.
  • Emotional intelligence and listening are essential skills that are often overlooked but are crucial in both personal and professional settings.

01 Oct 2024Change Your Questions, Change Your Future | RR27800:35:44

Ever wonder how a psychotherapist becomes a stand-up comic?

In this episode, we dive into the fascinating world of Elliot Connie, a psychotherapist, author, podcaster, and founder of Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). Elliot shares his journey from a tough childhood and a stint in marine biology to discovering his passion for helping others through psychology. He talks about how SFBT flips traditional therapy on its head by focusing on hope and asking the right questions to inspire change, rather than just digging into problems.

Elliot opens up about facing pushback from traditional therapists but stuck with his approach because it works. He explains why hope isn’t just a wish—it’s the fuel that drives action and transformation. We also hear about a defining moment in his life when he realized his resilience was his superpower, inspiring him to help others discover their own strengths.

He gives us a glimpse into his upcoming book, "Change Your Questions, Change Your Future," which teaches readers how to use powerful questions to reshape their lives. And if that’s not enough, Elliot is also gearing up for his new TV show, set to begin filming in 2025. Plus, we learn about his unexpected journey into stand-up comedy, thanks to a nudge from Tiffany Haddish, proving that you never know where your talents might take you.

29 Oct 2024A Guide to Relationship-Driven Sales in the Age of AI | RR28200:37:05

How are AI and social selling changing the way we connect in sales?

Join me as I sit down with John Golden, a globally recognized sales and marketing thought leader, to explore the evolving world of sales. John shares how social selling has become an essential part of the sales process, blending relationship-building with smart strategies. He emphasizes that sales today isn’t just about making transactions—it’s about creating meaningful connections, and AI can be a powerful tool when used thoughtfully.

We also talk about his journey as a brilliant podcaster and how his natural curiosity has driven his success in business and life. John shares how his experience in Taekwondo has shaped his approach to discipline and focus, teaching lessons that have impacted both his personal and professional world.

Highlights:

  • Social selling has become an integral part of the modern sales process, not a separate skill.
  • Building strong, authentic relationships is more important than focusing solely on transactions.
  • AI can enhance sales, but personalization and authenticity are crucial for success.
  • Curiosity is a powerful trait that drives success in both business and personal growth.
  • The discipline and respect learned through martial arts have shaped John’s approach to leadership and sales.

26 Nov 2024Jean Wright’s Guide to Selling with Confidence and Authenticity | RR28600:48:46

Is confidence the secret to successful selling?

Jean Wright, a sales confidence coach, joins me to share her passion about helping women break free from the outdated, aggressive sales stereotypes. Jean shares her journey from selling Girl Scout cookies to becoming a sales pro, and how she learned to thrive by building relationships, not just closing deals. Her approach focuses on tapping into your authentic self, believing in your product, and developing the confidence to ask for what you’re worth.

Jean offers practical advice on how to move away from the fear of being "too salesy" and instead focus on the power of genuine connection. We also dive into the importance of trust, confidence, and the ability to stand firm when asking for what you’re worth in any sales conversation.

Highlights:

  • Sales success is built on confidence and authenticity, not aggressive techniques.
  • Building relationships and trust with customers is key to long-term success.
  • Asking for money or closing a deal should come from a place of knowing your worth, not fear.
  • Overcoming self-doubt in sales is a skill that can be learned and strengthened over time.
  • Women in sales should use their natural empathy and communication skills to their advantage.

23 May 2023How to Think Like an Investigator with Dan Goodwin | RR20700:43:49

In this episode, we take a look at how mastering good investigative techniques can lead to business success. My guest, Dan Goodwin, spent 20 years as an internal interrogation specialist (within a Fortune 100 company) and now uses his investigative background to assist business owners and corporate management teams in researching and obtaining information to move their businesses forward.

Dan explains how the skill of “pattern interrupt” can help us break out of our trances and think critically. He also shares tips on how to determine truthful or deceptive behaviour using nonverbal clues, and what qualities make a great investigator or researcher.

Also, Dan shares his strategies for building rapport with people you’re networking with, and how to use LinkedIn as a relationship starter and networking tool – in complete alignment with my thinking also.

10 Sep 2024Building Stronger Relationships Through Mentoring with Lisa Fain | RR27500:34:54

How does someone go from being a lawyer to a top mentoring expert?

Meet Lisa Fain, CEO of the Center for Mentoring Excellence, who shares her unique journey and how she teamed up with her mom, Dr. Lois Zachary, a trailblazer in mentoring. Together, they’re changing what it means to be a mentor by focusing on cultural awareness and the power of mentoring to transform workplaces.

Ever wondered how mentoring is different from coaching or teaching? Lisa breaks it down — real mentoring is about learning together, mutual support, and building strong connections. She clears up some myths and shows how both mentors and mentees learn and grow from the experience.

We also dive into different mentoring programs and why having a clear purpose is key to making them work. Plus, Lisa gets personal, sharing how becoming an empty nester opened up new hobbies and adventures for her.

Join us to discover:

  • The impact of artificial intelligence on mentoring and the adaptability of organizations to a hybrid workforce.
  • The importance of mentoring in combating loneliness in a remote work environment.
  • How intentionality and focus in both your marriage and business is underscored, with Lisa advising listeners to "keep the main thing as the main thing.
  • The differences between mentors and coaches, noting how paid mentorship can veer into coaching territory.
  • Lisa’s books, "Bridging Difference for Better Mentoring" and "The Mentor's Guide," and their focus on inclusive conversations and practical tools for mentors and mentees.
