17 May 2023How Removing What's Draining Your Energy Can Help You Find Balance00:11:02

Send us a text

In this episode, we're going to discuss how identifying and removing things that drain your energy and affect your balance can help you thrive. I share with you my AHA moment after taking care of our house plant that led me to realize certain things in our lives may be draining our energy and causing imbalance, even though they seem to be functioning. We'll explore how creating boundaries and cutting out these energy drainers can lead to a more fulfilling life.

Segment 1: The Analogy of the House Plant

  • The analogy of a house plant helps to illustrate how something that appears green and alive may not be contributing to the plant's health.
  • We need to identify and cut out those sections that are holding the plant back, even if they still look green.
  • Similarly, in our lives, certain things may be draining our energy and causing imbalance, even though they appear to be functioning.

Segment 2: False Friends

  • We all have false friends that drain our energy and cause imbalance, such as relationships or habits that are no longer serving us.
  • It's important to recognize these false friends and have the courage to cut them out of our lives, even if it means creating discomfort.
  • Once these false friends are removed, we create space for growth and fulfillment.

Segment 3: Poor Boundaries at Work

  • Many people struggle with poor boundaries at work, feeling obligated to stay in a job that goes against their values and drains their energy.
  • It's important to recognize the impact of poor boundaries on our overall well-being and make changes accordingly, even if it means leaving a job.
  • By creating boundaries at work, we create space for personal growth and a greater sense of fulfillment.

Identifying and cutting out what's draining our energy and causing imbalance is crucial for finding balance in life. Just like cutting out sections of a house plant can lead to growth and vibrancy, creating boundaries and cutting out false friends in our lives can lead to personal growth and fulfillment. It may be uncomfortable at first, but the results are worth it.

17 May 2023Juggling All the Things as a High Achiever00:11:36

Send us a text

In this episode, Katie talks about the challenge of juggling everything as a high achiever and the importance of recognizing which balls in life are glass and which are rubber.

High achievers often see everything as essential and critical, but this mindset can lead to burnout and exhaustion. Katie shares a helpful analogy of juggling glass and rubber balls and encourages listeners to reflect on which things in their lives are truly important and which can be delegated or left to bounce.

We need the reminder that we ourselves are made of glass, and it is important that we take care of our health and energy. Our core relationships are also glass and if neglected can lead to major long-term impacts.

Enjoy today's episode as we uncover what is really important for us to create balance in our lives.

24 May 2023Overcoming Procrastination: Embracing the Uncomfortable and Taking Charge00:10:31

Send us a text

In this episode, we dive deep into the world of procrastination.

We all have tasks we'd rather put off, but it's time to confront the underlying reasons behind our tendency to avoid them. Let's explore the psychology of procrastination and discover effective strategies to break free from its grip. By embracing discomfort and shifting our mindset, we can overcome procrastination and create a more balanced life.

Key Points:

  1. Procrastination tricks our minds into believing that we're shielding ourselves from unpleasant experiences.
  2. By postponing tasks, we only accumulate negative emotions and create unnecessary suffering.
  3. The belief that we're avoiding suffering by procrastinating is a fallacy that hinders our personal growth.
  4. Procrastination becomes a habit, often learned from others in our lives.
  5. To break the cycle, we must confront the discomfort and challenge our resistance to certain tasks.
  6. Celebrating small victories and integrating the feeling of accomplishment helps rewire our brains positively.
  7. By training our brains to view discomfort as temporary and conquerable, we diminish the urge to procrastinate.
  8. Embracing uncomfortable tasks and accomplishing them empowers us to face life's challenges with resilience.

Procrastination may seem like a way to avoid discomfort, but in reality, it perpetuates imbalance and prevents personal growth. By accepting discomfort and adopting new perspectives, we can conquer procrastination and create a more fulfilling life. Let's challenge ourselves to complete those lingering tasks, celebrate our victories, and embrace the power of taking action.

Remember to share your accomplishments with us on Instagram at @balancedcodepodcast or via email at katie@katierossler.com. Here's to finding balance and overcoming procrastination!

14 Jun 2023Confronting Imposter Syndrome Through One Powerful Tool00:15:15

Send us a text

In today's episode, Katie got real about imposter syndrome and how it's impacting her life. She explored what it is and how it affects us in various areas of our lives. Imposter syndrome is that nagging feeling of inadequacy, the belief that we don't deserve our accomplishments or that we're just pretending to be something we're not.

But here's the thing: we all experience imposter syndrome at some point. It's a natural part of growth and pushing ourselves to the next level. Remember when you were learning to walk? You didn't doubt yourself or feel like an imposter. You embraced the process, learned, and eventually succeeded.

So why do we let imposter syndrome hold us back in other areas of our lives? It's time to challenge those negative thoughts and recognize our own worth. I shared my personal experience of feeling like a fraud and a total imposter. But I realized that being a mom doesn't diminish my value or my ability to achieve great things.

We discussed the importance of embracing our unique qualities and acknowledging that we deserve a seat at the table, just like anyone else. It's not about earning it; it's about recognizing our own greatness. I encouraged listeners to create their own bucket lists and celebrate their accomplishments, big or small. By doing so, we can combat imposter syndrome and feel more fulfilled.

In the end, remember this: you are amazing just the way you are. Don't let imposter syndrome get in the way of your dreams and aspirations. You have what it takes to succeed, and you deserve every opportunity that comes your way. So let's kick imposter syndrome to the curb and embrace our true potential. Stay tuned for more inspiring episodes, and remember, you are not alone in this journey!

28 Jun 2023Stressed Out versus Burnout: What's the difference?00:18:28

Send us a text

In today's episode, we're going to explore the difference between being stressed out and experiencing burnout. These terms are often used interchangeably, but it's important to understand their distinct meanings. We've received a great question from one of our Instagram followers about this topic, and I'm excited to dive in with you all.

It's crucial to acknowledge that burnout is not the same as being stressed out. Burnout is a slow burn that develops over time and requires significant recovery efforts. Using the terminology correctly is essential because our brains shape our reality based on the words we speak. By repeatedly saying we're burnt out when we're actually stressed out, we reinforce the mindset and environment that fosters burnout.

Learn the three areas of burnout and what the actual definition of stressed out is in today's episode, so you know what you are experiencing. And of course if you need support, don't hesitate to reach out to me at info@katierossler.com.

In this episode, I interview Bevin Farrand about the importance of finding one's tribe or community to support us throughout our lives. Bevin shares her personal experiences and the challenges she faced after the unexpected loss of her husband. She talks about the significance of building a supportive network and cultivating relationships that fulfill our needs.

We share about the understanding that our tribe may change over time, and it's important to recognize when certain relationships have served their purpose and come to an end. We get into the importance of holding boundaries and not expecting one person, such as a partner, to fulfill all our needs.

Bevin shares the type of people you want in your tribe and how to start asking for what you need versus hoping you'll find it. It's important we actively seek out our tribe or community that can contribute to our overall well-being and balance in life.
