15 Aug 2023Solving the rural health workforce challenge, one community at a time with Dr. Cath Cosgrave00:54:40

Send us a text

Get ready to embark on an enlightening journey with our esteemed guest, Dr. Cath Cosgrave, a trailblazer in the realm of rural community development. With her roots in Melbourne's privileged middle class, the contrast with her present life in the rural heart of Bellingen, New South Wales provides us with a captivating narrative. This episode unravels her pioneering 'Attract Connect Stay' framework and the Community Connector program, both instrumental in transforming the dynamics of rural workforces, especially in the health sector.

Dr. Cosgrave's transformative journey commenced in 2012 with her PhD at the University of New England where she recognised the pressing need for research on rural workforce development. Narratives like Jacob's, a mental health nurse grappling with rural Australia's isolation, became the linchpin for her ground-breaking framework. Her insights on why professionals choose to stay or leave rural health workforces are invaluable, shedding light on how we can minimise avoidable turnover and enhance the quality of life in rural communities.

This episode also delves into the Community Connector model, a beacon of hope for rural communities. With Dr. Cosgrave's emphasis on social connection, the model aims to create robust support networks for new workers and their families relocating to rural areas. We explore how this model,  currently funded by local collaborations of rural businesses (seeking to address their professional workforce shortages) and community organisations and individuals (seeking to improve the availability of professional services in their towns), is poised to enhance health and other essential services in rural and regional areas, address professional workforce challenges, and foster inclusivity in rural communities.

Tune in for an intellectually stimulating session with Dr. Cosgrave's as we delve into the intricacies of rural workforce dynamics and community development.

If people would like a Free Community Readiness Assessment tool for the Community Connector Program head to  https://attractconnectstay.com.au/contact/

And subscribe to the mailing list and Cath will send them the tool

You could can also follow Attract Connect Stay developments and make contact with Cath through LinkedIn Dr Cath Cosgrave
