11 Aug 2020ADHD and Entrepreneurship: Effective Management Strategies for Running Your Business00:33:44

In this episode, I talk to JP Holecka, CEO & founder of a Digital Agency in Vancouver Canada.

He shares his story of late in life diagnosed with ADHD while running a successful Digital Agency. Prior to his ADHD diagnosis, he felt so alone and “deficient”, after his diagnosis he felt a huge relief that he is not alone and there are ways to manage his brain. For a while, he took no action about his ADHD diagnosis until he reached a tipping point in his business. He chose to take control of his brain and decided to take action. He reached out to me for coaching and today he shares his transformation.

JP talks about how he tackled his Dyslexia diagnosis in his 20s and saw the benefits of choosing to manage it and decided to choose to learn tools and strategies to manage his ADHD. He shares his experience before and after coaching and the change of his perception around his approach to task, leadership, goals, and focuses on how to make the most of his strengths.

JP is now thriving with his ADHD and is a more inspiring leader to his team.

As you listen to this episode it is important to note that the tools and strategies that JP talks about are his very unique way of managing ADHD. We got there by working together and helping him see his true strengths and how he can use them to make the most of his day.

Through ADHD Coaching, you can come up with your own unique solutions to manage your brain, understand how to use your strengths to achieve your goals, and remove the negative self-talk that holds you back from getting the results you have been striving towards.

18 Feb 2021How to leverage your ADHD and step into your power | David Giwerc00:45:23

My guest David Giwerc, Master Certified ADHD Coach, Entrepreneur, Founder/President of the ADD Coach Academy, shared a very powerful statement during this episode, “when you identify your strengths, you're identifying a natural, innate talent and a way of creating excellence consistently in your life. But that's not enough because, without the sustaining mechanism, Or the source that activates that strength, those strengths will die. And this is especially true in ADHD because ADHD is a deficit of interest. It's, it's the challenge of boredom, but interest isn't even enough.”

You are in for a treat, consider this episode as a training session, during this episode, David shared extremely helpful insights on:

  • Identifying the importance of focusing on strengths, especially character strengths
  • Why we look at the different categories of strengths
  • What does executive function in the brain have to do with strengths?

During the last 20 minutes of the episode he goes deeper into the following:

  • An effective way to start your day to get the most out of it
  • Understanding the importance of how you process information and how it impacts learning
  • Definition of Executive Function and it works with ADHD
  • How to manage big emotions

I was trained and coached by David himself for a big portion of my ADD Coach training program at ADDCA, so it was my absolute honor to have my mentor/coach be on my show. I am forever grateful for the impact that he has made in my life and the lives of many who have taken his courses and teachings at the ADD Coach Academy.

14 Jan 2021Understanding the science behind ADHD & Memory Challenges | Guest Jeff Copper00:38:11

On today’s episode, we’re joined by special guest, ADHD, and Attention coach, also the host of Attention Talk Radio, Jeff Copper. We’re discussing memory, and specifically working memory: the ability to hold thoughts in your mind, organize them, and sequence them, without forgetting them.

This topic is hugely important for people with ADHD, but it’s not always talked about.

We’ll explore:

  • Why focus and attention issues are only surface symptoms, and the real issue is with working memory
  • How working memory works differently in neurotypical and neurodivergent people
  • What role procrastination plays in how we work, and why it might just be a good thing
  • Why high-tech solutions and apps can be counterproductive for people with ADHD
  • The different types of cues and reminders we use, and why they’re so critical for us
  • How impulsive interrupting relates to working memory (and what to do about it!)
  • How activating your working memory is like booting up a computer...and what happens when the power goes out
  • Why the pandemic and our new, more isolated work environments have made working so much harder for ADHD-ers

...and much more. I’m so excited about this particular episode, and I personally find it liberating because Jeff shares important insights that can help us tear off the misleading labels, understand the neuroscience, and finally do something about it. I invite you to listen and discover the role working memory plays in your life!

21 Nov 20194 Blocks to get in the way of being your best self for Adults with ADHD00:36:30
It is not a secret that what holds us back from being our best self is the internal conversation that we have with ourselves. One way to gain Self-confidence is to become fully aware of your thoughts and their impact on your life. Here is a breakdown in 4 categories and how to coach yourself out of these blocks.  I go into details in this episode, here is a summary: Can you relate to these thoughts? I am not good enough to ask for that promotion. Others are more qualified than me! My brain won't keep up with me if I ask for more challenging, creative projects. I want to be like the rest of my colleagues. They don't have the same challenges as I do. They can focus, sit still, and do their work. I can't possibly do that! Everyone is expecting me to be a strong leader and always solve their problems. After all, I am the Business owner and should have all the answers. 4 Energy blocks that hold you back from being your optimal self Limiting Beliefs - something that you accept about life, yourself, and your world or the people in it that limits you in some way. Ask yourself where this thought came from and how is it serving you to get to your truth. What is the cost to continue to have this belief? Interpretations - an opinion or judgment that you create about an event, situation, person, or experience and believe to be true. To overcome this block, ask yourself, what is another way that I can look at this situation? What would someone else say about this? Assumptions - because something has happened in the past, it will happen again Just because it happened in the past, what facts do you have that it will happen again? Gremlins - Your inner critic that tells you, in one way or another, that you're not good enough What is the thought, emotion that I am feeling now, and what action am I taking? How is this thought, emotion, and action, helping me towards my goals and being my best self?  What is a positive Thought and Emotion that I can have to move me closer to my goals? 22 Sep 2020Redefining Goal-Setting for ADHD brains: Achieving Success through Mindset Mastery00:16:50

When it comes to goal setting and achieving, I no longer pay attention to it and it has been life-changing. For me, it is about truly mastering the state of mind that I am to reach my ultimate vision for life, family, health, community, and business. You might say, well Cathy, it starts with goal setting!? Yes and NO!!!! What if you do have a goal, but underneath of the goal lays a whole bunch of fear, doubt, guilt, and catching up to the "Joneses". Which most often some crap will interfere with achieving your goal. The way I have learned to see it is that so long as you have not addressed all the underlying crap that is behind that goal, achieving it will be a struggle. You will be that hamster on a wheel, just going and going and not getting anywhere or you just simply give up. But what if there was a much easier way to get to your destination? Once I learned this concept Mastering my State, I no longer focus on goal setting, to-do lists, or worrying about being productive. In this podcast episode, I will share with you what the process is.

10 Mar 2020Is your ADHD brain wiring holding you back at work? | Guest: Sherri Cannon00:45:00
In this episode, I speak with Executive Coach, and Faculty member of ADD Coach Acadamy, Sherri Cannon.  She shares how she moved from up the corporate ladder from sales to becoming a leadership development Coach/Facilitator in Silicon Valley. Like my previous guests, Sherri was also diagnosed with Adult ADHD late in life. During this episode we talk about: how ADHD can hold you back from reaching your ultimate potential and impact your work/business Understanding what your style of learning is and how you can tap into your strengths so you can succeed at work the importance of actively understanding your brain so that you make it work for you instead of you being reactive to it, especially in times of stress, change and transition How to address the imposter syndrome when it comes to ADHD and how working with the right coach you can remove limiting thoughts that have held you back About Sherri Cannon This is how I became an ADHD coach. In career #1, I was a consumer products sales rep/manager (that’s a classy way of saying I sold soap and fabric softener to grocery stores and loved it). In the second, I traveled the public seminar circuit leading communication and leadership skills workshops around North America. When I developed a love for change management work with business teams, it took me to Silicon Valley, home of fast companies, geeks and a higher than average percentage of neuro-diverse folks. As an Executive Coach and Group Facilitator, I found my people and my calling. About that time, I also got my own ADHD diagnosis. In 2015, I added ADHD coaching to my practice. I’ve found my happy place here — coaching leaders, individual contributors, entrepreneurs, retirees, and career seekers to live more fulfilling lives by understanding and partnering effectively with their unique brain wiring. As you can see from my own path, going toward what calls and interests me has opened new cool doors. As I went through my own ADDCA training, I hoped I’d one day teach others and help them experience the richness and reassurance of this ADHD community.  When ADDCA invited me to join the faculty in 2018, it was the perfect intersection of my love of teaching with my desire to share this wealth with other learners. In 2019, I proudly joined the PAAC Board of Directors as Volunteer Chair and I look forward to starting my PAAC accreditation process in 2020. 02 Apr 2021#62: Creating new work because we don't like mundane tasks?!00:16:33

In this episode, I talk about the vicious circle that I see when it comes to avoiding tasks that we just do not feel the urge to complete however we end up creating new ones because we love to put out fires. I recall the days where I used to proactively look for new problems and fires to put and now I realize I was doing that because I was bored and needed stimulations. However, what I didn't realize at that time was I was not honoring my capacity to how much was already on my plate.

In this episode, I share my view and a few tips to not become the Fire Marshal of every fire.

08 Oct 2020Overcoming Self-Criticism with ADHD: Diann’s Inspiring Journey to Radical Self-Acceptance00:26:56

In this episode, I was so inspired by Diann's story on radical self-acceptance. I thoroughly enjoyed her real talk style, wisdom, and her story to Radical Self Acceptance.

One of the common themes that I come across working with professionals and entrepreneurs are around self-acceptance. Even though most of them have been able to achieve amazing things in their life, there is this undercurrent running in their minds around how they truly view themselves and if are unresolved issues during stressful times the inner critic becomes loud with voices of "not good enough", "I should be doing it better", "I am not pushing hard enough". I am sure you can relate.

I enjoy listening to Diann's podcast so much that I invited her to my show so that she can give us some of her insights on self-acceptance. I am sure you will relate in some way to her story and hope that you gain a few insights through her wisdom.

Be sure to subscribe as I will be having Diann back on the show for another insightful conversation.

About Diann Wingert:

27 Nov 2020Benefits of Yoga - mind, body connection | Guest Esther Nagle00:32:32

One of the most effective ways for ADHDers to manage their intense emotions is to pause and pay attention before reacting. Easier said than done, and this is a skill that does not come naturally. So how can we sharpen this skill? Yoga is one way to do this. Paying attention to our breath and creating movement in the body to get the energy flowing so that it's not bottled up in one place in our body.

In this episode, my guest Esther Nagle, Yoga Teacher, shares her own struggles with ADHD, Addiction, and how Yoga transformed her life and managing her ADHD.

She shares a few tips on how to get started, why it is so beneficial to slow down and pay attention to your breath, and how to manage overwhelm with breathwork.

I hope you will be as inspired as I was by listening to her story and make small changes to get your body moving and manage your emotions by paying attention to your breath.

About Esther Nagle:

Esther Nagle is a sober, tattooed, single mother, rock chick Yoga teacher with ADHD. Sober for 6 years, and diagnosed with ADHD just last year at 46, Esther has had a ‘colorful’ life, spontaneous and adventurous even in sobriety.

Esther has written a book about her recovery and the Yoga that guided her there and now focuses her teaching and writing on helping women with ADHD calm the emotional storms and find inner peace. Using, you’ve guessed it, the same tools that helped her to achieve sobriety!

Esther loves her ADHD, even when it makes life challenging, and loves to share how Yoga helps her to manage the worst of her symptoms, and bring out the best that ADHD has to offer!

29 Jul 2020How to Manage ADHD in Relationships: Tips for Nurturing Meaningful Friendships00:37:09
This episode is one honest back and forth between ADHD Coach and my good friend Sherri Cannon, and me. We each have some aha’s and do some existential pandemic pondering. Sherri talks about the hairballs of unresolved stuff in our past that can block growth and stop us from becoming better versions of ourselves. Then we talk about the times we want to let go and vent to a friend, but instead, tell ourselves how together or busy our friend is – who are we to complain? Self-compassion and curiosity (which Cathy has been making friends with recently ) are essential. These keep us from endless ruminating and all those mental self-beatings. At 22 mins, you might relate to our experience about the challenges for ADDers in making friends AND the goodness of discovering that lots of different types of friendships feed us. Stay around (@33mins) for the close as we dive into a whole new topic on cognitive hangovers and talk about what kind of help our uniquely wired brains most need from us. We felt that this was an important conversation to be shared publicly, as we often see this topic come up in our work with ADHD brains. So we hope that this conversation sparks a new insight for you and also know that you are not alone making sense of your complex brain wiring, we see you, we feel your struggle and are here to support you.  Connect with Sherri Cannon: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sherricannon/   Connect with Cathy Rashidian: https://www.linkedin.com/in/cathyrashidian/
14 Feb 2020Heal your Gut, Optimize your Brain | Guest: Jodie Campbell00:47:02
In this episode, I talk with Jodie Campbell, Nutrition + Digestive Health Coach about the importance of understanding how your Gut can have a direct impact on the brain.     Did you know that your gut is considered your second brain? We go deep into this conversation, Jodie believes that it all starts with the Gut.   It is one thing to pay attention to our brain but have you considered all the factors that influence it?  I invite you to this very informative talk with Coach Jodie.   About Coach Jodie Campbell Years ago, healing my own digestive system had a massive ripple effect on my whole body. No more migraines, lactose intolerance, IBS, mood swings, poor complexion, sugar cravings, low immunity, PMS, or lack of energy. Of course, it wasn’t an overnight transformation. It started with multiple doctors visits, fear-based media and marketing that manipulated my food choices, and fad diets with a nauseating amount of conflicting advice. What I needed more than anything at the time was someone to shoot it to me straight, someone to actually help! And so instead of looking for her, I became her. I’ve been a Certified Holistic Health Coach for 7 years, with formal training from the Institute of Integrated Nutrition and Nutrition Advisory training for the Sanoviv Medical Institute. Current student at the School for Applied Functional Medicine. Through my ongoing training and deep experiences with hundreds of clients,  I’ve seen firsthand that most people have a compromised digestive tract. With no idea that this is the root source of their frustrating symptoms being experienced throughout their body.   reach out to her on https://jodiecampbell.ca/fixyourguts   follow her on Instagram at @JODIEDCAMPBELL  Follow me on Instagram at ProudlyADHD_coachcathy  or book a discovery call with me to better understand your brain at www.readysetchoose.com
14 Dec 2020How an Athletic Mindset can help with Focus for ADHD brains | Guest Dr. Sarah Cheyette00:32:33

Contrary to what is known about ADHD, individuals with ADHD CAN actually focus! When we are interested and have a clear understanding of the tasks and know that it aligns with our goals we can become focused, even hyper-focused, and do a bang-up job. However, when we find a task boring, challenging to break into chunks, and ultimately the end results too far in the future for us to gain immediate gratification we have a harder time to focus.

In this episode, I spoke with Dr. Sarah Cheyette about focus and ADHD, she shared her view on how tapping into our Athletic Mind Set can help with gaining and sustaining focus. This is a super simple process to follow! Often it is the simple solutions that produce the most results.

27 Aug 2020ADHD and Social Skills: How to Improve Your Ability to Read Social Cues and Build Connections00:42:09

In this episode, Caroline Maguire, Author of “Why will no one play with me”? talks to us about how to read the room, how to really understand what's going on in social settings.

Those of us with ADHD brain, that fast brain that can think of bazillion thoughts in seconds can get in trouble in social settings and feel awkward, or out of place or even worse it can cause us to lose a job or a business deal.

We might come across as rude because we tend to interrupt too much. Or we can make people feel uncomfortable because we share too much and not to mention if we are in a middle of a story we can exhaust the listener because we have the urge to tell them all the little details of the story and not to mention we may even digress a few times because we thought of other related things to add to the story.

So you get the picture! and I am sure you can relate.

So how the heck do you “work a room”, “Manage a conversation?” and “win friends and influence people?” with an ADHD brain. Well, this episode will address a lot of these topics.

Be sure to listen to the section where Caroline talks about friendships and the stages of friendship at the 24:00 minute mark and further goes into how to be an effective listener “be a social spy”.

Get your pen and paper ready to take notes, the entire episode is full of insight and strategies

21 Jan 2021Understanding Inattentive ADHD | Guest Barbara Luther00:29:54

There are three representations of ADHD

  • Combined Presentation: if enough symptoms of both criteria inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity were present for the past 6 months
  • Predominantly Inattentive Presentation: if enough symptoms of inattention, but not hyperactivity-impulsivity, were present for the past six months
  • Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Presentation: if enough symptoms of hyperactivity-impulsivity, but not inattention, were present for the past six months. (ref - CDC.gov)

15 Sep 2020Adult Diagnosis of ADHD: Understanding the Six Perspectives and Implications00:16:57

There are the 6 perspectives of late in life diagnosis of ADHD for professionals/entrepreneurs ⠀⠀

My ADHD is:⠀

1. holding me back from living my life Victim ⠀

2. best under stress, I don't want to change Resist⠀

3. it is what it is! I am doing the best I can Rationalize ⠀

4. putting my needs first for once and take care of me! Self - Compassion ⠀⠀

5. finding out how I can make the most of my brain Opportunity⠀

6. I am the creator of my own destiny, I choose to take charge of my brain Creator⠀

I am sure you can relate to each of these lenses/perspectives but ... ⠀

which one has the most energy for you and is leading your emotions/behavior? ⠀⠀

Well, there is a way to measure this and once I learned about my actual perspective and how it was impacting me it was a game-changer on how I manage my ADHD. ⠀

You’ve taken personality tests… but now it’s time for an attitudinal assessment. ⠀You’re probably familiar with personality tests like Myers Briggs, DiSC, and Enneagram. ⠀

These valuable tools can help you understand your strengths, embrace your weaknesses, and discover how you can work to your full potential. In that way, they typically support a “work with what you have” approach to adapting your behavior and pursuing personal excellence. ⠀⠀

I have been using an effective tool to truly measure how an individual currently perceives and approaches work and life (it shows which number is their primary perspective) then we start the work to move to the next level. Just one level of shit can make a huge change in their life.

As part of my coaching process, I use an assessment that has been a critical part of creating Transformation for my clients who are able to move past their diagnosis and harness the assets of their ADHD brain. ⠀

If you want to know more about the Energy Leadership Index Assessment go to readysetchoose.com or book a call with me to learn more.

22 Jul 2020Transforming Your Life with ADHD Coaching: Gain Clarity, Focus, and Perspective00:18:45
What is ADHD coaching? how does it work? how can someone with ADHD benefit from coaching? These are some of the questions I had when I was diagnosed and I now see it come up often in the ADHD community online. In this episode, I share a snippet of an actual ADHD coaching session that I facilitated. Pls note that this person has ADHD , is not a client of mine, they agreed to be on the show/recording and wanted to experience ADHD coaching. The session starts with her wanting to address her lack of motivation - as the session progressed we talked about her values, then in the middle of the call you hear a shift in her energy as we got deeper into her values. She has a shift in perspective when she realizes the root of lack of motivation is that she has been avoiding what truly makes her happy which are tied to her values. As you listen to this coaching session, do you relate to what she is going through (I know I did)? This is just a short snippet of how coaching can really bring out the best in you and help you realize what is the root cause of what is holding you back. ADHD or not, we all have our stories/reasons/excuses until you take the time and dissect what is really holding you back, you will continue to get in your own way of success and even management of your ADHD. I am so honoured to be part of these shift in perspective with my clients and in this call it was my pleasure to help and witness this young lady experience a shift in mindset.  I want thank my guest for sharing her story with us, she was such a star and so open to seeing new possibilities. My coaching is a partnership where I design a plan based on the your agenda – coaching takes what’s inside and translates it into outer goals that you accomplish step-by-step. I hope this snippet gives you more insight into the endless possibilities of how ADHD Coaching can benefit you. p.s. 04 Aug 2020ADHD Diagnosis for adults and Treatment | Guest: Dr. Rannie Tao00:19:38

In this episode, I speak with my family physician Dr. R. Tao. We discuss ADHD diagnosis/assessment, especially in adults. I felt it was important that I bring her on my show to give a perspective from a Physician who has gone above and beyond to understand ADHD and be able to recognize the signs in her patients and empower them to manage their mental health.

we covered the following areas:

  • Stressors and symptoms
  • How anxiety or other mood disorders go hand in hand with ADHD and it is important to assess for ADHD
  • Dr. Tao mentions the ASRS - adult ADHD self-report scale. The ASRS touches on symptoms of hyperactivity and symptoms of impulsivity in inattention. “It's one of the easiest scales we can administer in the office setting. It doesn't take too much time. And I do often find if somebody does have ADHD, when they go over that scale, they say to me, Oh, this is exactly me.”
  • Women and ADHD and how often they are not diagnosed till adulthood.
  • ADHD treatments - she goes deep into her strategy on medication approach and also talks about the non-medication route, nutrition, coaching, counseling, and much more.
  • Risks of untreated ADHD, especially in children who were not diagnosed and later on will struggle in adulthood. She gives great examples here at @15:00min mark.
  • be sure to listen to the end as she has an inspiring message for those who are late in life diagnosed with ADHD.

About Dr. Rannie Tao:

Rannie received her Medical Degree from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada after completing an undergraduate degree specializing in Pharmacology. She then completed her Family Medicine Residency in Vancouver, with a special interest in mental health, chronic pain, and geriatric medicine. **This is an audio recording of a recent Linked-in Video Post** This content is intended for HR and Team Leaders  When we work with business function leaders to build ADHD literacy, they often want to know how to actually recognize signs of real ADHD versus societal ADHD…so that they can respond with timely, effective strategies or questions.  In this clip, my colleague Sherri Cannon, PCC, and I will share a few facts that can help you better understand ADHD in the workplace.    Did you know  ⇨ Around 8% of the world population has ADHD and has had it since childhood – diagnosed or not.   ⇨ In fact, as we get better at diagnosing kids, more and more adults realize they’ve lived life with a brain they didn’t understand and couldn’t explain to others.   We all can agree that when it comes to inclusion of the mind each person is unique and therefore has a unique set of needs in order to feel engaged and valued in the organization.   Without strategic attention to the neurodiversity of their talent, an organization can easily become home to groupthink, petty internal politics and a sleep-inducing culture of apathy.   Neuroscience breakthroughs of just the past 20 years now enable us to separate fact from fiction and to wisely, compassionately optimize the unique workplace contributions of individuals with ADHD.  #adhd #diversityandinclusion  Connect with Sherri Cannon: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sherricannon/  Connect with Cathy Rashidian: https://www.linkedin.com/in/cathyrashidian/

08 Jun 2020Neurodiversity Career Platform | Guest: Alex Corner00:30:48
In this episode I talk to the founder of Alex Corner, Founder of Amforus.com, “The World's First Platform Connecting Talented Candidates with Dyslexia, ADHD, or Autism With Inclusive Companies That Assess Skills, Experience and Not Education, or Interview Techniques.” Alex shares his personal story of his late in life diagnosis of ADHD and saw the opportunity to create a career platform for job seekers who are neurodiverse and match up with the organizations who are ready to work with their unique skill set. some of the points of this conversation: you can have an even more successful career once you really understand your brain wiring better and how to seek out careers that you are best suited for. What organizations need to do in order to tap into the neurodiverse talent pool, taking a truly inclusive approach during the interview process. Take the time to really understand the candidate and their strengths. about Alex Corner: Alex Corner is a financial services and technology sales, business development executive, entrepreneur, and investor. He started his career on Wall Street and was responsible for managing multiple global businesses using his creative innovative idea to launch some of the most successful revenue-producing platforms. After a 20 year Wall Street career across the UK, Hong Kong, and settling in the USA, Alex transitioned from front office trading into technology, selling digital transformation solutions to multi-cloud environments, event-driven, and streaming data. (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, DaaS) migrating companies to modern architecture. During the decision for a career change, he was diagnosed with adult dyslexia and ADHD, which had prevented him from completing college, and ruled out specific jobs. Fortunately, he was able to rely on experience and network. Reflecting on the experience, he studied hiring techniques, criteria, and behavioral neurodiverse analysis. Watching his son demonstrate creativity, test results ignored and witnessed people who had tremendous coding skills rejected due to poor interview techniques. This got Alex working on solving a problem, how were people without a track record, or exceptional grades, a global network going to secure a job they love without the grades or degree companies required, although they had tremendous talent. – This is why Amforus.com was created.

In May of 2020, I did an IG TV interview with Rick Green - Founder of totallyadd.com on the topic of why ADDers have challenges starting tasks and even following through. Rick shared so many practical insights and approaches that I wanted to capture and share the audio file here.

25 Feb 2021#57 Managing ADHD with routine, there is an app for that!? Introducing Brili for adults00:26:32

We all can agree that there is no shortage of productivity, task management, personal routine apps!

But did you know about this one app that is designed with the ADHD brain wiring in mind and makes routines come to life in a new way.

I am delighted to introduce to Brili, and in fact it has been around for a few years, the team has evolved the app to do so much more and share their exciting news on the episode.

In this episode I talk to Susanne and Sanam, the co-CEOs of the app and they share their personal story and why this app is so different from all the other ones out there.

Susanne and Sanam are the co-CEOs of Brili, a volunteer-based tandem from Munich and Berlin, Germany. Brili offers app solutions to individuals facing neurodiversity challenges like ADHD and ADD to manage their daily routines and habits. Their kids version has been out since 2015. The new adult version will launch March 1st.

In 2018, Susanne found the Brili app and decided to try it with her own son. It was a game changer for the whole family, so when the founder communicated that he’d likely end services, she made a bold decision to take over the company as a family. Sanam was on a personal journey to create personal impact alongside her corporate working world. So when her in-law told her the Brili story, it felt like a sign of fate to help keep Brili alive.

As parents and family members of individuals ADHD, Susanne and Sanam appreciate and understand the importance of routines in daily life with their personal experience. Brili’s vision is to embrace the uniqueness of every individual and help form a society without stigma.

25 Jun 2020Managing Adult ADHD at Work: Can Workarounds Really Help?00:14:19
In this episode my co-host Sherri Cannon and I talk about some of the common challenges professionals with ADHD can face in the workplace. they often want to know if they can be themselves – you know --bring their best work,  make their best contribution inside an organization. When they look for answers, they usually focus on masking, laboring in private, working in unorthodox yet highly effective ways for them, but they often do it out of sight for fear (from valid life experience) that they'll be viewed as…weird They focus on these lifelong “workarounds” much more than they do on proactively making their environment work for them. In the long run, this will turn to lead to overwhelm, burn-out, or even resigning without much notice. We address questions such as: Can you really accept your ADHD and be able to work to your best potential? We know the importance of being authentic but how do you do it in a way that comes from a place of strengths? You can connect with Sherri Cannon and learn more about her, visit: https://www.beyondthebellcurve.life/ Please don't forget to leave us a comment and also rate the show, I am always looking for ways to improve each episode.  Don't forget to follow me on Instagram @proudlyadhd_coachcathy  hmfFJrWokixLAm40VMlC
11 Sep 2020Overcoming Negative Self-Talk During Major Life Events: Strategies and Tips for ADHD Brains00:26:14

If you ever caught yourself in that place of "should I stay or should I go" when it comes to your professional career or changing business ventures this episode is for you.

The inner critic or as I like to refer to it "the Gremlin" shows its ugly head to really keep up stuck when we are ready to make a move. As I continue my work with high performing professional and successful entrepreneurs there is one major theme that continues to show up. Unaddressed negative self-talk. Regardless of how kick-ass you have been and how far you have come, if you have not done the deep work to really tame the inner critic, it will show it's ugly head at times when you about to make a big leap into your next kick-ass adventure.

In this episode, I share with you some of the ways you can tame the beast and to really evaluate why it was even there in the first place.

Recently I have seen a peak in my listeners, I want to welcome you to my show and also to let you know how much I appreciate that you take the time to list to my stream of thoughts.

I invite you to DM me on Instagram ProudlyADHD_coachCathy with your questions. I will respond to you either directly or through an episode such as this one. In fact, this episode was inspired by a question sent by one of my listeners.

06 May 2022Treating Trauma and direct benefits to ADHD management00:14:15

In this episode, I open up about my personal story about seeking support to further manage my ADHD through Trauma Therapy.  I knew that this method of therapy was going to be effective and I have always been a huge advocate of therapy but what I didn’t expect was the rapid results that I experienced.

“In total, some 20–50% of children with a history of Childhood Trauma have clinical levels of ADHD (Glod and Teicher 1996; McLeer et al.1994).”

Receiving support for mental health is a journey, from long waits to getting the right doctor to finding the right treatment and medication that will work and also the energy that it takes to keep at it.  But once we do get the right support, magic can happen.  I am beyond grateful to have found the right support team to move through this stage of my life.  If you relate to this post and also to this episode, please don’t give up on your healing journey, keep going! I am cheering for your success.

ADHD and Burnout!!! I can not get enough of this topic, so I decided to have a candid conversation about it with my special guest Brendan Mahan, host of ADHD Essentials Podcast and ADHD Coach.

“Is it the Fish or the Water? Is the fish sick because the fish is sick? or is the fish sick, Because it's swimming in a toxic ocean.” Brendan unpacks this concept so beautifully in this episode. (Yes we do get into politics in this talk)

We covered various aspects of how those with ADHD might experience burnout and how to move through it.

Thank you Brendan for being an amazing guest, really enjoyed this rich conversation and your wisdom.

02 Dec 2022Hormonal Fluctuations & ADHD in Women | Guest Linda Roggli00:57:21

Discussing the hormonal fluctuation's impact on ADHD and women is one of the most important episodes I have recorded on the Proudly ADHD Podcast.  Conversations on this topic need to continue and be amplified.

I truly believe so many women diagnosed with ADHD suffer in silence from the negative impacts of, Puberty, Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), PMS (premenstrual syndrome), Perimenopause, and Menopause. As these hormonal changes hugely impact and amplify the negative traits of ADHD.

In this episode, my special guest Linda Roggli gives us a view into hormones and what happens with our ADHD.

We also share our personal experiences and measures we have taken to manage the impact.

We hope that you find this episode useful and please do share and increase awareness of hormones and ADHD.

01 Sep 2020ADHD and Distractions: Staying Focused and On Track Amidst Shiny New Things00:10:06

How do you manage to stay on track when the shinny new ideas/projects come knocking on your door?

I used to get in the trap of getting derailed often when I was in corporate life and sometimes it worked out and other time I was left with regret. I used to jump ship often until I learned about my brain and why I was doing this often.

I wanted to share my views and learning with you on this as I now see this in my clients that I coach and when they really dig deep and understand how to manage “jumping ship” or “oooh shiny new thing” it becomes a game-changer for their professional role or business.

Please know that I am not saying we should avoid shiny new things, there is a more strategic way to go about it, and also once you understand why your brain is craving it you can make a solid decision to either jump or step in with caution or avoid it altogether. Cause you are the master of your brain after all and you should be calling the shot not your brain or other people’s shiny new ideas/projects.

28 Jan 2021ADHD, and not doing it alone! | Guest Brooke Schnittman00:24:31

One thing I've learned about working with my ADHD clients, especially business owners and professionals is that they have the need/urge to do everything themselves and are very reluctant to ask for support.

Even though they are truly gifted in so many ways and highly capable of taking on a lot, it does eventually catch up to them and that's one of the reasons they end up in my coaching practice. Deligation or Asking for support is not an automatic default mode since most of their lives they have been working so hard to prove to others that they are capable.

In this episode, my guest and colleague Coach Brooke Schnittman and I will talk about the strategic ways of seeking collaboration and asking for support so that you can continue to focus on your strengths while building a solid network to avoid burnout.

Stay to the end of this episode, we have a special announcement to share with you.

In this episode, I talk about why following your passion or that idea that is so inspiring may not always lead to long term happiness or fulfillment.  If You are at a crossroads to start a new career or business venture, you may be inspired by some ideas and things you have always wanted to do.  I would say take your next few steps carefully.  I often hear "but I thought this new career was the one"  or "the new business I started was going to be a success but, I am struggling" .   One simple step that most of us don't pay attention to is giving enough time and attention to understanding our strengths and what we are really good at.  I go deeper into this concept in this episode.
09 Apr 2021#63: Awareness - separating facts from interpretations00:14:40

In this episode, I am talking about the power of awareness and the depth and layers of it when it comes to awareness of ourselves, our environment, people, and situations.

I am excited to do a deep dive into this concept and over the next few episodes, I will share other concepts that really provide a framework on tapping into your full potential while using your ADHD as your best asset.

15 Jun 2020How to stay calm in times of big emotions | Guest: Dr. Jody Carrington00:32:49
Get ready for a jam-packed episode full of light bulb moments with, its funny, loud, and extremely informative. Get your note pad ready cause you want to take notes on - Emotional regulation, Trauma, you are wired for hard times! I talked with my special guest Dr. Jody, she is a dynamic speaker, with so much passion and loads of powerful messages. She talks about emotional regulation, “how to stay calm in times of big emotion”. How to manage our emotions we when are losing our mind. Due to our unique wiring, we tend to lose our minds much quicker and have a hard time managing our emotions.  She gives a few tips on how to manage our emotions (name it to tame it) and also how to teach it to our children. We also talked about trauma and the impact on the neurodiverse brain. She talks about the 10 experiences that could cause trauma before the age of 18 and how it can affect you in adulthood. This portion of the episode is a must listen to. Be sure to listen to the end as she has a very important message for adults with ADHD. You will want to listen to this episode a few times, it is that informative and engaging. How to stay calm in times of big emotion About Dr. Jody Carrington: Over the past 15 years, Dr. Jody Carrington has assessed, treated, educated, and empowered some of our most vulnerable and precious souls on the planet. She is a child psychologist by trade, but Jody rarely treats kids. The answer lies, she believes, in the people who hold them. Especially when kids have experienced trauma, that’s when they need big people the most. Some of her favorites include educators, parents, first responders, and foster parents. Jody has shifted the way they think and feel about the holy work that they do. Before Jody started her own practice and speaking across the country, she worked at the Alberta Children’s Hospital on the inpatient and day treatment units where she held families with some of the difficult stories. They taught her the most important lesson: we are wired to do hard things. We can handle those hard things so much easier when we remember this: we are wired for connection. This all started when Jody received her Bachelor of Arts with Distinction from the University of Alberta. She completed a year-long internship with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police during that time and worked alongside families struggling with chronic illness at the Ronald McDonald House. She received her Master’s degree in Psychology at the University of Regina and completed her Ph.D. there as well, before completing her residency in Nova Scotia. Her first book, Kids These Days: A Game Plan for (Re)Connecting with those we Teach, Lead & Love, came out in 2019 and sold 20,000 copies in just three months. It is now on Amazon’s Best Sellers List. 02 Dec 2020Paying attention to your Mindset Matters | Guest Jeff Copper00:35:57

In the past few years, as I've been going through coach training and coaching professionals and entrepreneurs, I have seen a theme around the importance of paying attention to mindset as it relates to their ADHD and how they were managing it before and after hitting their tipping point.

Often these adults come to me to learn how to manage their day more effectively, be more productive, and learn new tips and tricks on managing ADHD. As we start the coaching process they start to see that managing their ADHD has a lot to do with their mindset and perspective on how they respond and react to challenging situations.

In this episode, I interviewed Jeff Copper - ADHD coach, who has a few insights on why it is so important to pay attention to our mindset first before we dig into the tactical things.

He talks about the struggle that some will have around their ADHD diagnosis such as, who they are and who they were supposed to be. In this conversation, Jeff said, “Let's open up our mind and change our mindset and not define it to be a specific way.” this is such a powerful statement as it relates to the diagnosis of ADHD, we can choose to focus on the possibilities of the unique brain wiring instead of creating tension and stress on focusing on the things we have a hard time with.

I invite you to listen to this episode with an open mind and listen for opportunities where you can experience a shift in mindset as Jeff explains his approach to managing ADHD.

  • Did You Know - related to this topic, I use a tool with my clients to actually measure their level of perspective and how they see the world and react to circumstances. This measurable self-awareness tool is a game-changer for many of my clients, it empowers them to shift to an optimal mindset and a new perspective on how they react and respond to stress and overwhelm. ~ Currently, this assessment is on a special rate - find out more. In 2018, Forbes Coaches Council recognized it as one of the “11 assessments every executive should take.”
